My computer crashed and now it won't boot

I'm in a bit of a bind.  My scheduling won't allow me to go into an Apple store to get this diagnosed/fixed for an entire week; mainly due to Apple stores opening hours.  I'll be needing my computer (and I have no temp replacement) during that time to do extra work.
The computer was working fine until, suddenly, it decided to do a really awkward crash.  The entire screen was covered in brown vertical stripes and the audio was still working fine for another minute before completely hanging.  When I decided to reboot, the apple logo has glitchy stripes in it and then proceeds to be either a black screen or a white screen.  Then, after 5min, the fan starts to kick in like crazy.
I've tried resetting the PRAM, SMC, Safe Boot and Recovery Boot but nothing seems to make a difference.  I can't get past the black (or white) screen.
I know this isn't much to go on but I'd like to know anyone has any theories of what's going on and how I can go about to fixing this.  Thanks

It's plenty to go on. You have a serious hardware problem that only Apple or ARC can fix. So you have 2 options.
1) Make, take, the time to get it fixed ASAP.
2) Buy another computer.

    Hi Sangeeta,
For a fresh download on a new hard drive, it's best to start with the CC desktop app. Sign into adobe.com and download it here: creative.adobe.com/products/download/creative-cloud
You can then launch the desktop, sign in and download PS & LR.

  • My hard drive failed, has been replaced, and now it won't boot to CD.

My hard drive failed, has been replaced, and now it won't boot to CD to install the OS package. It would boot for a while, get through the first cd of install and would stop randomly in the next install. I found out that the installation disk was cracked so I went out and purchased the Mac Box Set which includes Mac OS X Snow Leopard, iLife '09 and iWork '09 under advisement from an associate at the local apple store. Now, I try installing this new OS disk and all I get is the apple logo without a spinning wheel for about 10 minutes and the computer restarts and does it again. I have tried booting from disk, holding c while starting up, and in safemode, holding shift while booting. Please help save my poor poor macbook!!!

These errors look like corrupt or missing files that leopard requires. It sound like you need to start from scratch: format your drive, reload Leopard. I realize that this is probably what you are trying to do.
If you cannot boot from install DVD and cannot successfully get into Safemode or Single usermode (due to a corrupt or incomplete install) then you will need another computer to assist you.
If you can get it into Target Disk Mode and have another Mac you could plug it into that Mac and reformat it.
If it will not go into TDM then you may need to take it out and put it into an external enclosure to plug into another Mac to format it.

  • How can retrieve my misic on my 3rd generation ipod if the computer crashed and now i need to use a new comper?

If my computer crashed and I have a different one now how can I save my music on my ipod that is already there? When I tried to use the new computer it said the would lose whats on the ipod.

    - Transfer iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - For other music you need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - After all the stuff is on the computer connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.

  • My computer crashed and now can't find playlists on reinstalling itunes

My computer crashed and I lost itunes.   I downloaded it on computer after adding new harddrive.  The cloud came up with my purchased songs but playlists aren't showing.  I have an old backup from a few years ago but afraid to use it because new purchases obviously aren't on it.  What do I do now?

    Hello Vickielkh,
I would recommend restoring from your backup, then downloading the remainder from the iTunes Store.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Replaced router and now XP won't boot

Okay, hope this makes sense.  Had a Linksys (older model) and removed to place a new router in with more power.  Got setup and didn't remove old wireless connections beforehand and now, I can't boot up Windows XP unless in Safe Mode.  Not sure if I have to remove the Networkname or what, but its late and I've probably been looking at this too long.  After spending time with ISP trying to get them to reboot modem so connection would work, something got hosed up along the way.
Any help on trying to fix would be greatly appreciated!

Hi… I don’t this has anything to do with Network Name or old Wireless Network connection. Might be some of the system files are missing or gone corrupt. I would suggest you boot the system in safe mode and restore the system to a restore point dated 15 days back. This will help you to boot the system in normal mode.

  • HT1349 My computer crashed and now that it's working again, itunes required that I deauthorize.  Did that and now that I have authorized computer it won't sync with my old apps, playlists, photos, etc.  How do I fix that?

After getting computer repaired it said I had too many computers authorized and couldn't add (I've only had ONE computer to sync with itunes so don't know how it counted 5)  Required that I deauthorize all computers and then reauthorize again.   Did that and now previous data, music, playlists, audio books, etc won't sync with my iphone.  How do I correct that and get iphone to sync with everything I have on itunes?

  • Can i sync my itunes music library to more than one computer? my computer crashed and now has a different id.

My computer crashed - the orginal one that I synced my phone to and my iTunes music. Now I have a new computer and want to sync my music but it won't let me - I get an error message stating that I am only allowed to sync my phone to one computer. How do I get around this?

You can move the song files into a different iTunes library and sync them to a new device, but they will remain associated with the original Apple ID.

  • How can I get my photos back, after my computer crashed and now I can only preview them?

Before my computer crashed I had saved my photos on my WD My passport but I think it was only saved like a preview. Once my computer crashed I brought my pictures back to the HD Imac Computer but now I can see them but I can't save, print or export them. Is it possible for me to fix this and if so how?
    I appreciate ALL help.
    Thank you:)
Here is an example of some:

I had saved my photos on my WD My passport but I think it was only saved like a preview.
We need to know more, to be able to understand what you have done.
How did you save your images to the external drive? Did you copy your Aperture library there?
Is your Aperture library referenced or managed - did you store the original image files outside the Aperture library or are they included in your Aperture library?  If you have referenced images, did you back them up too?
The error message you are seeing, shows that Aperture cannot find the original image file. That is indicated by the yellow warning badge with the arrow.
If your Aperture library is referenced, you need to restore your backed up original image files as well from their backup, and then use the the command "File > Locate Referenced Files" to reconnect the image versions with the missing original files.  Do you have a backup of the originals? If you cannot restore your referenced originals, you can turn your previews into new originals; post back, if you need help with that.
If your Aperture library is managed, and all your originals are included inside your Aperture library, try if the Aperture Library First Aid Tools can fix this:
Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual
Check if the "Masters" folder inside your Aperture Library contains any image files: Crtl-click the Aperture library and use "Show Package Contents". Are the missing original image files inside?

  • Recently installed Creative Suite 6 and am using Acrobat Pro.  Suddenly it crashes and now it won't start.  I installed the current update but still not.  This happened before, in 2012, and was finally fixed.  what do I do?  Duncan

    Hi all,
My recently installed (Windows 8.1) Acrobat Pro (part of CS6) suddenly stopped working - now it won't start.
This happened on Windows 7 in 2012 and was eventually fixed.
Any advice on what I should do?  [I can't find where to post a question to the adobe help people]
    - Duncan

Well, the computer stopped starting up at all. It could never find the operating system. I tried safe mode and virtually every other non-standard start-up option. I then did target disk mode with another MBP and got the message: "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." I then tried using disk utility and it couldn't retrieve retrieve the data using restore (writing to an external drive). I suspect that this means the hard drive would need to be replaced. In your expert opinions, is this necessarily true? Could this still be just a software problem, or perhaps some other piece of hardware?
Part of the reason I ask is that this laptop is now nearly five years old. It's needed a new battery for two years. If it's a virtual certainty that the hard drive is toast, I don't want to pay $150 for someone to take it out and try to recover any remaining data from it, only to reveal that the data is indeed irretrievable (since the computer itself is probably only worth $300-400 at this point). The nearest Genius Bar is also more than 2 hours away. Am I going about this the right way by using disk utility, given that the hard drive won't mount to the desktop of the other computer? If the hard drive can't be reat in target disk mode, does that confirm that it is the hard drive?
    Thanks
Oh also, it does still make the startup noise, even though I can't run the AHT since I can't get it to start up in safemode. I thought this mean that it passing various hardware tests. Does this not apply to the hard drive?

  • Computer crashed and now cd drive doesnt work?

My T61 laptop crashed to the blue screen and i lost everything i had saved on the computer and now the CD drive will not read a CD, but it will read a DVD. Anyone have any idea that i could try to get it working again?

I've loaded my music folder back on to the itunes main menu. My purchased music shows up in the library, but when i got to play music on my lap top it tells me i'm not authorized and requires me to log in.
Then when i went to resync my nano (after all had been erased) a new library shows up with my name on the main menu screen and all that downloaded to that library was the music that i had my own cd's for. So no purchased music was downloaded back to the nano. I hope that helps!

  • My computer crashed and now problems reconnecting ipod-itunes.HELP

My computer recently crashed and I'm having some problems connecting things back together. Being that i lost everything on my computer, and had to reinstall the hard drive, I lost itunes and all the songs on my computer in the process, but yet I still have my ipod loaded with songs. Seeing that I'm away from home and at school, I don't have the software to reinstall my ipod. I recently downloaded a newer version of Itunes and tried connecting my ipod to it. But i get the message, " the ipod "my name" is linked to another itunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this itunes music library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this ipod with those from this library." Obviously I dont want to do that and clear out my ipod. I'm lost with what i should do to be able to connect my ipod back with an itunes programs without losing any songs, and being able to upload cds again to my ipod via itunes. PLEASE HELP

First of all, click 'no' to that message, then go to the iPod options and set your iPod to manage the songs manually.
Then you can get the songs off your iPod and into the new iTunes libary.
    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method I've seen posted. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer.
When all the songs are safely back in iTunes (and not before), then you can change the iPod back to automatic transfer and continue using the iPod and iTunes as normal.
