My computer crashed. Trying to sync apple tv to my new computer.

My computer crashed and Im trying to figure out how to sync my apple tv to my new computer. I see the apple tv in my Devices tab on my itunes. But can't get into it. How do you get your apple tv to start synching with a new computer? Thanks for your help!

No easy way - it is not designed as a primary storage device or backup solution.
Nevertheless, it seems crazy to me that Apple deny people access to their own personal or paid for media, when a drag and drop or USB connection should be easily implementable. Just doesn't make sense any gives anyone it happens to a 'bad Apple experience'
Only options:
1 - dismantle AppleTV, remove drive and connect to a Mac via a caddy and hope you'll find teh files
2 - Modify the software/hack it to enable you to access the files
3 - See if your Apple store has a friendly geeky assistant who could do 1 or 2 for you, or has some other undocumented Apple solution to help you.
For the future remember to backup important media properly, but we can all get caught out from time to time even when we do so fairly regularly.

               Please help me.

If the problem persists, you'll probably have to make another apple id, it wont take off any games or music or apps or anything you've bought it will all stay there, i have two apple id's and i don't have a problem with anything.

I have the same problem. It is only with tv shows and only with programs I have downloaded after the software update.
Apple support sent me the above link too....but it doesn't solve the problem...my computer is authorized and the content is in my library and will play on my Mac air, but it will not sync the tv shows, it keeps saying my computer isn't authorized for it.
No answers here, but you are definitely not alone with this issue.

Your music will only be where you put it.
Did you copy all of your music from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one?

  • I recently downloaded the new version of itunes and was trying to sync my ipod to my new computer and all of my music disappeared.  Where is my music?

I recently downloaded the newest version of iTunes and was trying to sync my iPod to my new computer for the first time.  Somehow in this process I somehow lost all of my music!  It says that I only havce 10 songs unless I'm looking in my library somewhere else.  But even on my iPod all of my music is gone!  Help someone!!!  Can I find what music I used to have?

If the music that was removed from your iPod (which happened as a result of syncing it with a new computer... an iPod is designed to sync with only one library at a time.  Connecting it to a new/different iTunes library will erase what is currently on the iPod and replace it with what is in the new library) is no longer in a backup anywhere or another PC, then there is no way to tell what used to be on your iPod.
You'll need to either rerip the tracks you had from CDs back into iTunes or redownload them from iTunes via iCloud if possible.

Try removing and then reinstalling the Apple software using these instructions.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
The above containes a link for XP. Also. make sure you install the correct Apple software, It comes in 32 and 64 bit and you need the one that is the same as the computer OS

Copy the music currently on your iPod to your new iTunes library first.  See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to do this.

i'm trying to sync my iPad with my new pro and i get message saying 5 computers authorised ?? what to do

    1.  De-authorize one of your five computers and then authorize your new Pro.
Or, if you don't have five computers and got rid of them before you de-authorized them...
In iTunes, click your iTunes user ID in the upper right corner of the iTunes Store.  Select Account and then press the "De-Authorize All" button.  All of your computers will be de-authorized.  Then it is just a matter of re-authorizing the computers that you want to use with iTunes.

  • BB Desktop Manager crashes trying to sync BB 8900 T-Mobile

I work with the tech support for my company's IT department.  We are tasked with providing support for any technical issue our users encounter.  I am working with one user who is having issues with his BB Desktop Manager crashing out with a generic error whenever he tries to do a sync.  Here are some of his details...
He was using BB Desktop Manager 4.3 I think and had a previous model blackberry device.  Our organization uses Lotus Notes.  He was previously syncing the email with Lotus and the Contacts and Calendar with Outlook.  He upgraded phones to the BB 8900 (he is on T-Mobile) and upgraded his BB Desktop Manager to v4.6.  When he first ran the setup, he did not tell it to sync the Lotus organizer data.  He performed one sync, but nothing came over at all.  He then went in and checked the LOTUS ORGANIZER data, but every time he tries to Sync, the BB Desktop Manager sits there for about 45 seconds, then it just closes with a generic error referencing the BlackberryDesktopManager.exe.
When that happens, we can open the Desktop Manager, but the PIN connection shows NONE until he actually unplugs and re-plugs in the phone.
If we try to go into the SYNCHRONIZE section and then hit the button that would normally show the sync settings, we get the same exact type of crash (but it happens almost immediately instead of waiting 45 seconds).
Here is what we have tried to do to fix it.  We have completely removed and re-installed the BB Desktop Manager (but we have tried v4.5 and v4.7.)  Each time we are uninstalling the software, I made sure to REMOVE USER FILES and then I am also going into the PROGRAM FILES folder and deleting the RESEARCH IN MOTION folder so it shouldn't be keeping any of the files from that folder.  We also tried wiping the phone (three times) - twice by putting the PIN in wrong 10 times, and then once by calling T-Mobile and having them walk him through doing it on the phone itself.
We still have the same exact crash at the same exact places on all versions of this software for this model phone.  If he had another computer to try it on (that also has Lotus) I would have him try to setup the phone on another PC.  Since the phone has been wiped many times, I am thinking its something on the PC thats causing the crash, but I am not sure where to go or what to check next.
We have worked with this guy for a total of over 12 or 13 hours, and we have no idea what to try next.  This is baffling many of our technicians trying to figure this out for him.
Does anyone have any clue why it may be doing this, or have any ideas what I can check next?  Are there any logs I can collect or upload that may help identify whats going on?
Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Updated iPad2 to iOS5 - iTunes 10.5 crashes trying to sync photos

When tryung to sync my iPad, iTunes crashes upon getting about 1/3 of the way through the step of Analyzing the iPhoto Library. I am trying to sync 1 (one) Album from my iPhoto library. My versions are as follows - iPhoto 9.2, Mac OS X 10.6.8, iTunes 10.5, my 64GBi Pad2 is running iOS 5 and has over 12 GB free space. My iMac has over 150 GB free space. I have repeatedly trashed the iPod Photo Cache in the iPhoto Library, to no avail. This has only been a problem since the latest updates came out on 12 October 2011. I would really like to have my latest travel photos with me when I go visiting next week. And no I'd rather not turn on Photo Stream, thank you. I am tempted to just let it keep attempting and crashing as sending the crash reports to Apple. Any other help is welcome.

More info on this issue. I have close to 9,000 photos in my iPhoto library. The iPad will sync photos from a designated folder outside of iPhoto. This leads me to beleive my iPhoto library structure is corrupt (although I can view all the photos in iPhoto without crashing) or some metadata to the library is bad. Either way when iTunes tries to analyze the iphoto library somewhere between 20% and 40% of the way through the process, it goes BOOM! I am trying to look for help on rebuilding the iphoto library and see it that helps, but haven't found anything so far.

  • After trying to sync my ipad to a new pc, i get this error message "Attempting to copy to the disk "windows" failed.  the device is not connected."  but it is connected.

I have been trying sync my ipad to a new pc and I get this message after the sync fails:
"Attempting to copy to the disk "windows" failed.  The device is not connected."
The device is connected, what is wrong here?

This is a common problem that is most likely caused by files that are not marked to have proper read/write permissions.
To solve this problem, follow these steps.
    1. Close iTunes.
    2. Using the finder, Ctrl-click the folder that contains your music files, then select Get Info.
    3. Ensure that the Owner is set to have Read & Write privileges. Choose to Apple to enclosed items…
Once you have modified permissions, fire up iTunes and try to sync your music again. If it throws the same error message and still doesn’t work, research more about permissions in Mac OS X, as there could be something else not right with the permissions of your music files.

  • Need to Sync Apple TV to a new Mac

    Dear all
I am sure that this has been asked and that there is a simple solution but I can't find it.
My problem is simple. I've an Apple TV that is paired to my 'family knock about' MacBook. This MacBook has recently been dropped and is broken. The iTunes purchased content on my Apple TV is now in a state of limbo. I want to transfer all of the purchased content (movies, TV shows) from my Apple TV to my new iMac and use that as my main household machine but I can not find out how to without re-setting my ATV and losing all of the purchased content.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you.

    IMPORTANT
Please note if you try to set up the new machine to be the sync computer as I describe here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2560493&tstart=0
...then all existing content will get deleted from AppleTV.
Afraid there's no simple solution to transfer from AppleTV - AppleTV is not designed as a backup - if you have backups of iTunes content on external drives you would be better to use that to populate the new iTunes.

Do you know if the hard drive is broken?

Unfortunately there's no official way to do this which is why you;ve not found an answer.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Your options are as follows:
1 - If say the laptop screen is broken but all else works ok just you can' use it, I would try starting the Macbook in Target mode assuming it has a Firewire port. Next connect it to the iMac with a Firewire cable and try to access the data in the individual user partitions.
2 - If Macbook won't start or no Firewire, try and get the hard drive out to see if it works and stick in in a USB caddy to read via the iMac.
3 - Contact support for iTunes store explaining you had an accident and that all purchases have been lost from the Macbook which no longer works - they may at their discretion re-enable all the downloads but MAKE SURE you do it on the iMac and not inadvertently to the AppleTV again.
4 - Unofficial unsupported route of applying a software hack/mod to allow network access to AppleTV from the new computer, or cracking AppleTV open and using the hard drive (note it's 2.5" PATA) as in 2, but make sure you only copy media and don't alter things.
Of course if you have backups of purchases etc on CD/DVD/external drive that would probably be the simplest way to get stuff onto the new computer.
    Good luck.
