My computer died and took my itunes music with it
Help! my old Dell died, and took my music with it. I've spend a lot of money on music and tv shows from itunes, and I would like to get them on my new computer, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that. Shouldn't I be able to take the things i've bought on my account and put them on my new computer? My old one is fried, won't turn on at all and the harddrive is aparently dead. there is no way to get the music off it over the internet or by burning it. Is there anyway to get my music back?
Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. Starting with your iTunes Music Store purchases, the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
TuneJack Windows Only
iPod2PC Windows Only
iGadget Windows Only
iDump Windows Only
iRepo Windows Only
iPodRip Mac & Windows
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

My HP computer running Windows XP died. The hard drive crashed and took my itunes library with it. I now have a new HP desktop running Windows 7 and can not get my full itunes library only what had been purchased. I am trying to retrieve all the songs we had including what we had uploaded from CDs etc.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. That would be easy and ideal but that is not the case here. The computer was repaired in Nov and then crashed in April completely. Thought it had been backed up to icloud but not very savvy with that. I have a sectored hard drive that was salvaged from the crash but having a difficult time reading and locating files on it.
Just wondering if there is a way to retrieve my itunes library to another computer???? -
My old laptop crashed, and took my iTunes account with it. I got a new laptop, and want to sync my iTouch to iTunes. It gives me an error message stating that I can't sync to multiple iTunes accounts, but I can't access my old one!
How can I get my new iTunes account to allow me to Sync my iTouch? The only option it gives me is to "transfer purchases" from my iTouch to iTunes, but that is only about 25% of my iTunes library-most of it is CDs I have uploaded. How can I Sync without losing all my music from my iTouch???
Also, I have lectures and photos, etc. on my iTouch that I don't want to lose.
I've tried a few of the iPod copy programs-the free ones and the ones you have to pay for, but I can't find one that will work for ALL my content on an iTouch.
Right now, I can't get anything from my iTouch to iTunes, and I can't update my iTouch with my new iTunes purchases, so I'm stuck! Help!Also-I tried to use my backup hard drive, but I wasn't able to drag/transfer/send/move any of my muic files onto my iTouch when the iTouch was connected to my computer. I can't figure out why it won't let me do that.
The only thing I can see when I open my iTouch on my computer is my file with photos. I can't see videos, music, or anything else. What's going on? -
yea i have 32gig ipod touch 5 or 6 gen and i want to back it up on the computer but i dont want to lose all my music ive already had that happen once so can i plug it in to the computer?

My other computer died and have my bookmark synced with Firefox sync, however, I no longer have access to sync key and I do not want to generate a new key and erase my old bookmarks. How do I retrieve them?
Sorry, without the Sync Key you can't use Sync to recover your personal data. If you have another device that was connected that Sync account, you can recover your Sync Key from that other device in the Password Manager on non-mobile devices. See - [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/how-do-i-manage-my-firefox-sync-account?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=where-can-i-find-my-firefox-sync-key#w_where-can-i-find-my-recovery-key this].
''Firefox Sync wasn't intended to be a "backup" medium, it was made to keep certain data synchronized between multiple devices.'' That "key" is used to encrypt your data before being uploaded to the Sync server and decrypt the data as it is downloaded to one of your devices. Only you have access to that "key", to maintain security over your data no one else knows that "key".
If you still have that old PC or the hard drive from that old PC, you can connect it to the new PC via USB with a USB enclosure, and you should be able to recover that data if the hard drive didn't fail.<br />

, while I have taken a backup of the iTunes Library,
this means nothing if it was not done correctly...
To have EVERYTHING on a New Computer...
From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

I had music on my ipod and in my computer. My computer died and I lost my ipod. Is there anyway to get my music through itunes?
Hi katmango24,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I'm sorry to hear that the computer died and the iPod was lost.
For music that was purchased from the iTunes Store, you can use the steps in this article to download it again:

Hi, I'm an ipod newbie, and unsure of what product i have-i believe it's an ipod nano, but can't seem to find any info on itunes that will identify my product.
how do i move ipod nano music to a new Windows 7 computer? My old computer died and when i try to sync to itunes on my new Windows computer, it says it will erase what's on the ipod. I can't seem to de-authorize the old computer (it's been recycled). Does this mean I have to start all over and read in my CD's into itunes? seems very inflexible/inelegant...
thanks for your help, sorry if this question has already been answered before! Is there no ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM?

I had an HP laptop with Itunes on it and kept my library on an external hard drive. I had a 160gb classic Ipod.
My computer died and i am buying a new one (mac is out of budget)
When I get my new computer, obviously I will download Itunes. My Ipod still has all the music on it and the external hard drive is ok.
I don't want to "erase" or lose any information when I sync with a new itunes that is "empty"
What are the steps? After I download Itunes and set the folder location to my external harddrive what is next? Will Itunes recognize my IPOD? Will it load the music/list from my ipd or external into itunes?
Thanks in advanceThe following user tip is worth checking through:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device -
I have an old ipod (it's the very thin oblong one in purple, the one before the one that does video) and want to know how to get everything off it and into my iTunes library. My old computer died and the original library was lost, so don't have any of the content saved anywhere else. I now have an iPhone 5S and listen to music on that, so want to be able to listen to things from the old ipod too.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks very much
JaneApple normally does not get involved in handling lost objects like this. Since a real name is not installed it will be much more difficult.
You can try contacting Apple support at the US number, assume you are US going to BWI from the listing: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 and explain the situation and see if they offer any suggestions. -
I have burned numerous cd's onto my old computer. Many of these songs cannot be purchased on Itunes (Garth Brooks for example). My old computer died and now I can't transfer these songs from my ipod onto my new computer. How can I retreive my data?
What options do you have enabled from under your iPod's Summary and Music tabs for syncing preferences?
