My desktop died and I want to transfer my Itunes to my labtop. Im more worried about the songs I bought from Itunes then the CDs I have convertedI transfer teh data from my Ipod to wy laptop?

The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Now that you know that hard drives die, you need to buy and USE software to make a full backup of your hard drive to DVD or USB hard drive... so you may restore everything to a new drive

I have a new computer and I want to make it my home device for I tunes. I have home sharing, and all of the music and files are on the new computer. Now what do I do to make the new computer the home computer for Itunes?
The computer (windows platform) where I initially began using Itunes has four other computers/devices that are shared with it. All four of the other computers show up in my account, and can be managed. Or I can remove them. But on the new computer that I want to be my base computer (home if you will). The computer I want it to replace, when ITunes is open, has a tool bar, with various functions. All of the other devices are linked to that computer in ITunes, under Home SHaring. The new computer, shows the downloads via Home Sharing, but it does not show/have any tool bar.
I want to activate the new computer to be the computer via ITunes where all of the devices are linked to it as the base for ITunes. And, I don't know how to make that happen.

I'm still not fully convinced that the system is asking for a previously entered passcode, rather than to set it up. If the passcode was set up before, your mother might not remember what the passcode was, but wouldn't she remember that she did set up something? What happens if she clicks on the Cancel button/word?
After each iOS upgrade you do have to re-enter the passcode. That's why you had to enter it.
My sympathies are with you. I know from personal experience how difficult it is to troubleshoot problems remotely, especially with someone who's not familiar with the proper terminology. Is it possible and reasonable for your mother to go to the Apple Genius alone?
IF she did indeed set up a password and can't remember it, there's a procedure that will reset the iPhone, but it's not pretty in terms of preserving data on the iPhone if it hadn't been backed up to iTunes or iCloud. These links might be of assistance:

Computer to computer network: now what?
I have just upgraded from a G5 iMac to an intel iMac, and i am still trying to migrate some files over. Rather than reboot into target disk mode every time, I figured I might as well try this computer-to-computer network thing via airport express. So I created a network on the old computer, and joined it from the new computer. Didn't get any error messages, and both computers show that I'm connected.
But now what? How do I "find" one computer from the other? It's not in the sidebar in finder windows. It's not on the desktop. In the finder if I click the imac icon, inside there is my HD, my idisk, and a folder called network- but that folder is empty.
I'm guessing this is something simple and I'm being dumb, but i'm not sure what to do next. I guess I could just transfer it on a jump drive, but now I want to know how this works...ok thanks, I'll try that. I guess I should have thought of that.
I turned on sharing on the old computer, and it said "other macs can access your computer by afp:xx or browse for "my computer" by choosing Network from the Go menu in the finder."
I tried the network: browse options first since it's easier than typing a bunch of numbers. I choose Network from the Go menu, and there is nothing there. Doesn't matter if I'm on my regular airport network, or this computer-to-computer one- nothing comes up either way.
But, if I do 'connect to server' instead and type in the afp:etcetc stuff it works.
I guess I just don't understand the point of this computer to computer network. I thought i was connecting the two computers directly- so why do I need to go through enabling sharing, connecting to servers, etc. In target disk mode, the old computer's HD just shows up in the finder- I was hoping for something simple like that. Right now, I have both computer on my airport network. How is that different? -
My iMac was stolen only a couple of months after I bought it. I had created my website though iWeb and hosted it with GoDaddy. Now I have replaced my iMac, but I don't know how to import (?) my existing website into iWeb so that I can continue updating it.
Does anyone have the answer? I have already downloaded all the web files from GoDaddy's Remote System, so I do have them locally. Now what?
Thanks!Your Mac stores most things that would be important to you in a personal way, in your Home Folder. Things like your iPhoto Library, your iTunes Library, Downloads, and last but certainly not least, your iWeb Domain.sites file (which contains everything you create in the iWeb application--including multiple sites). All of your iLife apps will, by default, store their files and everything you create in these programs in your Home folder.
Make it a habit to back up this Home folder on a regular basis to an external drive. If you can, invest in an external drive and then make use of Leopard's new Time Machine application.
Your Home Folder will also become bloated over time. Having clones of it on an external drive will enable you to trim some fat and create more space on your hard disk when you need it.
The good part is you only have to learn this lesson once, usually.

Iphone charging block died, now what?
my charging block (the little one) for the iphone 4 just suddently stopped working, ive tried a couple of cables and outlets and its simply done. now what im wondering is if i can just go to the apple store and get a replacement? would i have to make an appointment to simply exchange the charger or would a walk in be fine?
thanksI would suggest making an appointment with the Genius Bar. If you don't need one it wouldn't hurt. If an appointment is required, they will usually set you up with an appointment if you just walk in, but you may have to wait a while for the appointment.

I am getting unwanted popup ads about software update for software that I don't have installed. I have an iMac 20", 2009, running 10.10.2 Yosemite. This just started this week. I read that Adobe Flash Player was causing problems with mac's and Windows pc's. I did the Adobe Flash Player update for windows 7, on my pc's. Is this my problem here on the iMac? I also get popup ads when viewing and crags list ads. they appear in the midle of the screen, and in the lower right hand corner. Any advice, suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks
There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked. -
Windows 7 partition has died. now what?
so ive been running windows 7 in bootcamp with no real issues for a month or so. great.
today i try to boot into windows and i get an error report screen saying that some new software or hardware may be causing startup to fail (of course, not specifying which software or hardware that might be). it then lists the different startup options i have: safe mode, safe mode with networking, safemode with command propt, as it last worked, or start windows normally. ive tried just about all of the options listed and what happens is, if using a safe mode option, a bunch of file names scroll up the screen making it seem as though windows is about to startup and then it immediately restarts my computer again. repeating the whole process. when i select the "start windows normally" option it does the same thing without the files scrolling up.
on that note, i have set my startup disc to default boot into windows because i figured it would help solve my issue. hasnt made a difference at all.
another suggestion on this error screen is to use the windows cd and boot from that, select "repair computeR" and i should be good to go.
when i boot from the CD and select the "repair computer" option windows is telling me that im running vista, not 7, and that my windows 7 recovery disc wont work...find another one.
so thats about it. im stuck on this screen and cant figure out how to solve this problem.
my theory is windows updated a driver or something and has no idea whats going on and wants me to fix it. but without being able to get into windows at all i dont see how i am meant to do that.
as a last resort i guess my only real solution is to just wipe the partition and start over again...loosing everything i have on it right now. not something i really want to be doing.
can you guys help me out? im stuck on this one.

The Assistant use to/should/could have created an NTFS for Vista; given minimum recommendations. That is all. Offering NTFS was removed.
And while MS says 16GB for 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, that is small and may not work. Same for x64 and its 20GB (32-40 should be minimum).
Boot Camp 2.x was clobbered together back in Sept 2007, and Apple jumped the gun on trying to support Windows 7 in Aug 2009 before it was released.
So, might want to show what OS you are running. -

Computer crashed. Saved songs on D drive and put in new computer. Now what?
My computer went down for the count. C drive went bad. I was lucky in that my iTunes music folder was on my second internal hard drive, the D drive. Got a new computer, installed the D drive into the new machine, and the folder is still there. When I open up the files, most of the songs are now M4A files which I never heard of and the computer doesn't know what to do with them either. I haven't downloaded and installed iTunes yet. I am nervous. All I read about is people plugging their iPod into a new computer and all of the music on the iPod is gone. What is the proper sequence for me to download iTunes, tell it where the music files are and then show iPod that all is well and it doesn't have to have a lobotomy? Also, will I be able to retain the information, such as album covers, equilizer settings, genres, etc? Where is this info kept? And what are M4A files? Shouldn't they be MPEG files? I think that is what they used to be. Enough questions? As you can see I am still recovering from computer ****. Can anyone help?

To restore your library, install itunes 7, then hold down the shift key when starting it up. When it asks you to create a new library or select an existing library, click on "Choose Library" and navigate to the library file on your D drive, it should be called "iTunes Library.itl".
If you can't find a library there, return to your My music folder and create it there. Once itunes starts with an empty library, select "add folder to library" on the file menu and then select the folder containing all your music. Itunes will add it all to the new library.
Once you get the library up in itunes, attempt to play one of your purchased songs and log in when itunes asks you to. This will authorize your new computer to play your purchased tunes.
Once you have your full library back in itunes you can safely plug in your ipod. itunes will probably reload it completely, but all should be well once it's done. -
Moved iTunes library to new computer, but now what?
I am in the process of migrating from a G4 Ti Powerbook to a brand spanking new Mac mini. Using firewire target disk mode, I easily transferred my 12GB of music (which does include some purchased music) to the new machine and it appears in my iTunes library. I did NOT copy over any of the other iTunes information, because I really didn't have any ratings, playlists, etc. that I cared to keep.
I thought all was well...until the next time I launched iTunes on the new machine. First, the Library containing all my music came up and then a few seconds later a new icon appeared in the list called "Brightgirl's Music" which appears to be a DUPLICATE of my entire library along with the few playlists I had on the old system. iTunes allows me to "connect" with a password and "disconnect" from this second library list.
I'm wondering where this second list came from and how to make it go away. Since all my music is in the main Library (and I successfully authorized my purchased music within that), why do I need a second list to remind me that I used to have another computer?
Any advice to help me? Also, I haven't yet tried hooking up my iPod to the new machine. Is it going to freak out?Hi,
Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The other Library you're seeing is from the PowerBook. You have "Share my Music" enabled in the "Sharing" pane of the iTunes Preferences. Once you disable this on the TiBook, or if the TiBook is not on, you won't see this.
Also, if you plan on selling the TiBook, make sure you de-authorize it before you wipe the hard drive prior to selling it.
As for the iPod, I don't remember any problem when I hooked mine up to the new PowerBook for the first time. I think it was pretty straightforward.

I had to reset my PayPal account with iTunes and now I'm getting a apple I'd has been disabled on both my iPad and iPhone. I've already done all the steps on my computer. Now what?
They give me that option when I'm setting up my account and I've got all that worked out. But my apple I'd is still disabled on my Mac, iPad, and iPhone. I can't download anything nor can I update any of my apps. I've even changed my account to a credit card and it still didn't help.
Any ideas? I've put in a support request. Hopefully they won't take too long. -

i do art with a win vista computer filledwith photoshop cs3 and tons uf unbelievable plugins that were given to me by a now deceased ps wizard.
that computer died. i now have a new computer, but it is of no value to me without the same art setup that i backed up into an ext hard drive.
i have wetechies @ 300 usd/year trying to remotely do that. day 2, so far no success.
i cannot afford to buy all that. i have cancer also, and with 6 months to live, friends have generously bout me a great computer for my art needs.
but i need more than a computer. and i need more than photoshop. i need the programs n things in my plugins .
does anyone know how to do that?
my wetechies from india are on day two, and ony have given me a 1.16 kb pd icon! then asked me if that was fine.

my cs3 extended and the plastic case bearing the serial #, bought for 900 usd, were stolen the night i was in the hospital having my mastectomy.
i had the ps3 inside the plastic case in my living room drawer. when i came home, there was a psc ( not extended ) in one of the 2 computer drawers.
i am not sure why. but in the second drawer was my chest xray from the hospital???? i suppose ,since i never looked at it myself, it may have had my personal info needed for the thief to pose as me. also, my purse, with passport,all forms of id and my keys, were stolen on another day . but i have bad credit, so good luck to them.

i know of no one who did art in my building at the time which was in florida, where i was having my chemo and radiion, and first surgery.
that computer, was broken, by someone trying to fix it. perhaps the only person i know who wopuld have an interest in the plugins as he was a photog and was familiar with the photog and ps wizard who supplied me my art stuff.
wheredo i go from here, inexpensively, i was gifted the computer of my choice. it is awesome for art. but i wanta photoshop in it, which i do not use for much, but i do use the plugins.
question- is it true that my new 64 bit computer with win7 is compatible with cs3 and higher? as well as plugins tha are 32bit not 64 bit?@Whether your music purchases will be in the cloud will depend upon what country that you are in, and whether it is still in the store (record companies occasionally remove their music) - you can't add music to the cloud without subscribing to iTunes Match.
