My computer does not recognize when i connect my ipod

My son't friend gave him a used iPod touch and when I plug it into the computer i get a message that the usb device is not recognized. Does this mean the iPod is messed up or is there a disc that needs to be installed? Also when I turn on the iPod it shows connect to iTunes and a lock symbol. The screen doesn't change or ask for a password. Any help will be appreciated.

  • My computer does not recognize the Airport Connection.  Please Help

I just purchased the Apple Base Station and Apple Extreme. My internet connection is made through a DSL Modem(My carrier is Frontier Communications). I am having a very hard time getting my computer to recognized the Airport. Can someone please help me. Thanks

Unplug the modem power. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the AEBS WAN (circle of dots port. Connect an ethernet cable to the LAN (<->) port, and to the ethernet port on your computer. Run the AirPort Admin utility. Configure your base station, giving it a name, administrator password, network name (SSID) and a password. Select a Configure option (ethernet or PPPoE, fill in any ISP information. Update the base station. Disconnect your computer.
Shut Down the computer. Make sure your AirPort Extreme card is firmly snapped into its socket, and that the antenna wire if snapped into place. Boot up. On the computer, go to System Preferences>Network and make sure PPPoE is disabled on your Ethernet Tab. You should now be able to see your network in the AirPort Menulet. Log on to your network and see if AirPort Admin Utility can be run (it should). Quit AirPort Admin Utility.
Plug in the power to the modem and run a web browser. Can you connect to the internet (you should be able to)?

  • HT201263 My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine, but when I went back the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. It is now unresponsive and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in. What should I do?

My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine earlier, but when I went back a few hours later, the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. It is now unresponsive and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in. I thought it just needed to be charged but there seems to be a larger issue now. What should I do?

Let your ipod die. Then when it is dead charge it adn turn it back on. After that it should be fine.

  • HT1386 I have an iphone 4 which quit working and I had my iphone 3 reactivated until I get my 4 replaced or fixed.  My computer does not recognize my iphone 3 when I plug it in. I also cannot figure out how to apply my last backup to my iphone 3

I have an iphone 4 which quit working and I had my iphone 3 reactivated until I get my 4 replaced or fixed.  My computer does not recognize my iphone 3 when I plug it in. I also cannot figure out how to apply my last backup to my iphone 3

If your iPhone 4 was running iOS 5, you can't install iOS 5 on an iPhone 3G which means you can't restore the 3G from the backup of the iPhone 4 running iOS 5.

  • "Your computer does not seem to be connected to the internet." when trying to sign into Lightroom Mobile

I want to connect Lightroom 5.5 with Lightroom mobile. I click on the identity plate in Lightroom and select "sign in". A window opens saying "connecting...". Eventually the message changes to "Your computer does not seem to be connected to the internet." My machine is a Windows 8.1 PC and I already tried to solve the issue by allowing LR through the firewall.

    I just found a solution:
    - Close Lightroom
    - Rename your .lrprefs file to e.g. .lrprefs.old
    - Launch LR
    - Close LR
    - Delete the newly created .lrprefs file
    - Rename your previous .lrprefs file from .lrprefs.old to .lrprefs
    - Launch LR again and sign in

  • Computer Does not Recognize IPOD

I have tried everything I can think of and any help would be great.
Narrative: I have two 60GB IPod, two 4GB Nano. I purchased each of them approximately 6 months ago and all have worked very well out of the box. About two weeks ago (I believe I can time it to the date of the last update actually) the two 60GB stopped being able to communicate with the computer(acutally, within two days of each other - not both at the same time). One day it worked great - the next I came up with a "USB device not recognized" error. I tried as much of the 5 r's as possible (I uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, itunes, made sure I had up-to-date hardware drivers, etc.) The one thing that I could not do was a restore as the computer does not recognize the ipods there is no way to use the restore software. The two nanos consistently have had no issues (other than not being able to hold all the information I need to carry).
I've removed/uninstalled the USB ports and let them get rediscovered - no change
Updated motherboard BIOS driver - no change
uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, etc - no change
thought about really hurting the ipod - no change sigh
Dreamed of kicking the ipod into the air Pele style - no change
Details: 60GB Ipod, Dell Inspiron 6000, Windows XP SP2, Latest drivers (to the best of my knowledge). Cable is tested (still works on Nanos and I've tried all four cables that came with the four ipods to no effect). USB ports recognizes all other devices that are tested.
I can't think of anything specifically that I left out but any help you can think of would be great. I have read through most of the posts regarding this issue; however, most of the threads have devolved quickly. About the only fix I have seen that would work is "you should have never purchased a PC in the first place, get a Mac and it will work fine." This is, of coure, not an option.

    hiya!
hmmmmm. that model is a Dell notebook, isn't it?

My MacBook Pro, running 10.7.3, does not recognize when my iPhone and iPad are on the same network, thus it does not synch.  Any ideas?

    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.
Research Knowledge Base for network problems that pertain to the OS that is currently installed on your computer.   See these basic networking KB Articles:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1401 AirPort troubleshooting guide

  • Turbotax does not recognize my internet connection

I installed Turbotax 2010 from a CD and when I try to update it I get the following message: Error 42016: Unknown error
Further messages indicate that The Turbotax program does not recognize my internet connection. I do no t have this problem with other programs. Turbotax tells me it is a Comcast problem.
Comcast tells me my internet connection is fine.
    I am at a loss.

I might have found a solution, that works for me with windows XP. First restart the computer and don't start up itunes. Open Norton Internet Security and click on Status and Settings. Then click on personal firewall and then click on Configure, and click on the Programs tab. Scroll through the list of programs until you have goten to Apple itunes. Change the interntet Access to Permit All. Once you have saved these settings start up itunes. That worked for me. Please tell me if this helps anyone.

As a result the ishop, CDDB Gracenote etc. simply do not work, as itunes claims that I am not connected to the internet (even though I am!).
I'm sure this is a relatively simple problem to fix...can anyone help me?

  • Computer does not recognize powershot a590 is

When I plug the camera to my laptop with windows 8.1 with the usb cable it came with the computer does not recognize the device. When I hit device trouble shooter same thing. I can not run the software cd because my new laptop doesnt have a cd drive. I did go to the canon site and upload the software thinking that may solve the issue, but when I get to step two of the installation and I connect the camera per directions it again can not find the device.
I can not seem to find a driver alone for a manual installation.
Any help or thoughts greatly appreciated!!!

    Hi sasbuckeye!
    Thanks for posting about this.
The drivers needed are built into Windows, so no additional driver installation is required.  I would like to gather some additional information to help determine what is causing the issue.
Is the camera still recognized at all by other computers?
Is your laptop connection to AC power?
Are there any devices connected to your laptop other than the camera?

  • Computer does not recognize exteranl drive

I have been using a Maxtor OneTouch II FireWire 800 external drive as backup for several years and it has worked fine until recently. Recently when I turn on the drive the computer does not recognize that the drive is connected on either the FireWire or USB port. I disconnected the drive and shut down the computer several times with no success. When I connect the drive to my Windows Dell laptop the laptop recognizes that the external drive is connected. Any ideas about what could be the issue with my iMac?

All USB 1.1 devices will no doubt work on a USB 2.0 port (as long as the running system has the proper driver for it). However, not all USB 2.0 devices will work on a USB 1.1 port.
Any suggestions about how to isolate the issue?
The device itself (the hard drive) seems to work. To rule out FireWire port on device, you would need to connect it to another computer over FireWire to see if it works. To rule out FireWire port on iMac, you would need to connect some other FireWire device that is known to be working. For the cable, you would need to get another one that is known to be working and try it with the FireWire drive.
Also is there anything I can try from a software perspective?
You can start up from your Mac OS X installation disc for Panther (10.3), by inserting the disc and holding down the C key during a restart. When you get to the first Installer screen, go up to the Menu Bar under the Installer menu and select the command to run Disk Utility. See if the hard drive shows up in the Disk Utility sidebar, when you are started up from a different system.
