  • I have a mac book pro.  It is 3 years old.  when I push the button to turn on the computer, it does not start.  The little light comes on, but the computer does not start up

I have a macbook pro.  It is three years old.  It has been working perfectly fine.  However, as of yesterday, whenever I push the "on" button, the computer does not turn on.  The little light comes on indicating that the computer has started, but there is nothing on the computer screen, and it does not make the usually noise that it makes when it cycles on.
    Any suggestions?

Check the battery status to make sure it has a full charge (and that the charger is working). Then make sure the screen backlight is turned up.
If the backlight is up then, try forcing the machine to shutdown (hold the power button for 5 - 10 seconds).  Then restart the computer(listen for the start up chime).
If the computer does start up and you still cannot see anything reset the PRAM by forcing the machine to shut down (hold power button as before), then press the power button and start holding the key combo
    <Command>+<Option>+p+r
until you hear the start up chime two or three times, then release the keys and allow to boot

    Greetings and welcome.
Try booting from the system install CD/DVD by putting the disk in the drive and starting up while holding down the c key.
After boot-up find the Disk Utility, either on the desktop or under the Apple menu. Select your startup drive and the repair permissions on that drive. See if that helps.

  • Computer does not start up

My macbook does not start and a question mark sign is flashed. It does not go beyond that

The question mark means it's not seeing a bootable installation of OSX on startup. Can mean a number of things. Firstly, try starting up holding down the option key to invoke the startup manager. Does it see your HD?
If no, startup with the installation CD in the drive and hold the 'C' key down. It will take a bit longer to boot from the disk, but once done, you'll need to launch Disk Utility and run the Repair Disk routine. Post back.

  • Computer does not start

Dear Team, Suddenly my PC shut down (it was running without AC, with quite high battery level though). It was running on "power saver mode" so even if the battery level was low, it should have gone to hibernate. When I connect the AC, the LED does not light at all. (with or without battery either) Went through the troubleshooting steps (hard reset, another AC) still does not charge and does not start up at all. No LED light either that worries me the most! I clean the dust out of the fan regurarly, using arctic mx4 thermal grease for CPU and video card, I really take care about my PC, so no idea what happened? The only odd thing what I noticed prior to this, that neither of my CTRL keys was working  Please help! Any kind assist would be greatly apperciated!  Cheers!

Kindly connect the system to direct power and check the issue is not there.
If it works fine then you should it could issue with power bar as it is not passing the complete power.
    Best Regards,
    Tanuj

  • Computer does not start up properly

The Battery exploded in my older macbook (not a violent explosion, but it seemed to push out and was no longer flush with the bottom of the notebook, so I removed it. I plugged in the computer with the power adapter without a battery and it actually started once normally. I did a shutdown and since then, when I try to start it the white power light comes on, the sound sounds and the screen turns light grey, after about 20 seconds or so, the grey apple appears on the screen with the turning wheel symbol, after about 20 turns of the wheel, the screen goes black. Well, this time it started ok. The battery symbol in the toolbar has an X in it, obviously as it has not battery installed. Is it ok to use the computer like this?
Secondly, I purchased a battery replacement for this unit, when I tried it installed, it did not recognise the battery, it is the A1185 model number and fit perfectly in the slot. Any ideas on this?
    Many thanks,
    Rene

I found your thread very helpful.  I have a 2009 mac pro 3,1 that seems to be doing similar things.  It was working fine then occasionally the screen would flicker and then freeze the system.  had to power off to get out of it.  Now it won't boot.  I get purple and white vertical lines and the apple with the pinwheel.  the pinwheel stops after a while and thats it.  i tried booting from the cd and get to the harware test but the screen is split left and right.  really unreadable.  i suspect the graphics card (geforce ) so i tried booting without the card installed. i believe it still did not complete the boot.  my question is should i be able to boot without a graphics card installed?  any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

  • Windows 7 64 bit / HPE-010be Computer does not start up out of 'stand-by' mode

I had this problem several times since I bought this system last month.
I leave the PC normally in stand-by and then wake my system up by pushing a key on the keyboard.
In the case of the problem, I push a key on the keyboard, the system starts and I hear the fan and the drive running, but nothin appears on the screen for minutes.
The only way to get out is to force a full restart by pushing the power button for long time.
One thing I had one time that I did not force the full restart but waited for longer time. Half an our later I came back to my system and saw a full restart had happened.
    In the log, I see:
    Windows Operating System; Versie: 6.1.7600.16385; Id: 41; Gebeurtenisbron: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power;
Msoft relates this log-issue to bad power-off situation, but honestly all the cases I've had I cannot remember issues. It could be that my computer is causing such situations by itselve.
    Anyone had this problem? Solutions?
    This question was solved.

    Patrick,
What BIOS level are you running on your PC?  What model NVIDIA video card are you using? If it's the 220 then try this HP NVIDIA video card update.
    Try this procedure:
Unplug the PC and open it up.Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any. Plug your PC back in a give it a go.

  • HP Pavilion 15-n253sv Notebook Computer does not start (Windows 8)

Hello, yesterday my laptop shut down and since then it cannot start.
Even with repair/install disks of windows (8.1) or Linux, it recognises the disk,  gets to the first menu (of the Linux disk) or the press any key to boot from cd/dvd (on windows disk) but then it get to a blank screen and does nothing else.
I run the System tests (quick and extensive) and both found (pretty quickly I might add) an error on the HDD (I think).
the error Id istrk03-74j79q-mfpv6j-60wc03 but I cannot find any reference of that on the web.
I suppose that since it is a hardware issue I will have to take it to HP support, the main thing that concerns me (as you might have already guested) is if I might lose any files.
    Thank you in advance
    Orestes

Yes, I just took it to a service support and they told me just that, if I want to keep my files I would have to pay extra.
The live cd solution was my first thought too but (as I wrote at my original post) it doesn't seem to be hopeful either.
It gets to the first stage of the disks (boot menu of linux live disk/press any key to boot from disk on the windows disk) and then it gets to blank screen doing nothing as well, also the optical drive stopped reading the disk (that is how I figure that's doing nothing). :-(
Anyway thank you for your good will but I suppose I would have to pay for the recovery if I do not want to void my warranty.
PS:By the way and since you mentioned it, the issue with the bootable disks can it be connected with the hard disk failure?

  • New ram - computer does not start up

    Hi all,
I have a first gen iMac G5 (1.8 Ghz, 250 GB Hard drive, 1 G Ram). This RAM was installed:
    DIMM0/J4000:
    Size: 1 GB
    Type: DDR SDRAM
    Speed: PC2700U-25330
    Status: OK
I wanted to upgrade to 2 GB, so I checked around, everywhere it says I should have PC3200 RAM sticks, even on the Apple website. Same at the store (a kind of mall specializing in Apple stuff), they sold me 2 GB of DDR SDRAM PC3200. When I installed them, the computer would start up but get stuck on the little gear wheel, until the screen went gray and a message appeared in 4 languages saying that I have to restart the computer.
So then I put the old RAM stick back in, but same thing happens - computer would start up, get stuck on the little gear wheel, until the screen went gray and a message appeared in 4 languages saying that I have to restart the computer.
Any ideas what I could do? Or did I kill the computer for good?
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi again,
so, after a bit of struggle (mainly with the hard drive casing), I managed to switch out the hard drive for a new one and installed the new ram. Everything seems to work fine so far. Only difference so far is that the fans don't seem to come nearly as much as before. Things seem warm, but not worrisome hot, so I wanted to check if these temps are ok or if I need to be concerned:
    HD 52C/126F
    CPU 65C/153F
    Hard Drive 49C/121F
Both Disk Utility and Disk Warrior report no problems.
If these temps are too high, how can I rev up the fans a bit?
    Thanks for the help!

  • Computer does not start!! help

While my computer was running and doing a BIOS update through the Lenovo update utility, a blue screen happened.
Now the computer appears to be totaly dead, can something be done for this or should I return it to the local Lenovo representative for repair? It is still under warranty.

It will have to be serviced at a Lenovo service center. As this was not intentional, it should be covered under warranty.

  • My computer does not start up all the way

When i start my computer up, it goes through all the steps, but my hard drive never loads and just the wallpaper and the spotlight show up. I have to force quit and start the computer in safe mode and then restart the computer to get it to start all the way. Is there any thing that can be done so that my computer starts right all the time the first time?
