My computer doesn't awake when sleeping to perform a programmed backup.

As you see in the title:
I've got a Windows 7 -64- bits. When I creatre a programmed task that is a backup, the option "awake " the computer from "sleep" mode
doesn't works. The Windows is in spanish version.
Can anybody help me? Thanks

Hi Daniel,
Check your settings:
1. Open the Task Scheduler windows.
2. Within the scheduler, navigate to the existing backup task.
3. Open it and select the Conditions tab, set it to wake the computer to run this task.

  • Computer doesn't go to sleep

    I have a macbook pro 10.4.11
I've had to get 2 new batteries over the course of the computer's life (purchased in Jun 2006).
The computer's battery settings are set for best battery life, which means that the computer should go to sleep withing 5 to 10 mins (this is for the running on battery option).
Now, my computer does not go to sleep unless the cover is shut ... and it seems like the battery does not last as long as it should. Also, when i put it manually to sleep, it dies after a while..and doesnt wake back up unless i press the power button.
WHAT am I going to do now...? A third battery...? =\

  • Computer doesn't go to sleep, just crashes.

    Hello!
I have an HP dv7-1450US with Windows 7 that's about fifteen months old.  It has two problems that, in combination, are causing me issues!
The first is that the power jack is a little tempermental, such that every now and then it stops working and I need to wiggle the power cord until it starts charging the computer again.
The second is that, when it reaches the low battery (and critical battery) points nothing happens, although I have the computer set to sleep and hibernate, respectively.  Basically, when you take these two together, the computer just stops charging about once a day and lets its battery run down until it crashes and all my work is lost!
Sleeping and hibernating both work fine on their own--when I select them in the start menu or close the laptop lid, it goes to sleep without any problems.
I've reinstalled the power driver a bunch of times without success.
Any help would be much appreciated!  Thanks!

    Hi,
Power jack issue: That will require replacing the power jack and connector harness (unless you just love soldering).
You are fortunate in that the DC power jack for your laptop does not require soldering skill to replace. It connects with a harness and connector to the system board. You should be able to find a certified tech or shop locally who can do it for you. Here is a video that shows just how involved this is on most laptops. Yours is easier but still requires major disassembly.
That may be the root of the problems you are having.
    Best regards,
    erico

  • When using the mouse or trackpad, the computer doesn't register when I click on something about 50% of the time. This usually happens if I try to hit the same icon twice in a row. How can I fix this?

For example, if I try to hit the refresh button twice in a row in Chrome, the first time may work, but not the second. This occurs in all programs I use.

The about:accounts page is a valid page in the current Firefox release.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Okay, I seem to have solved the problem I posted about earlier.  I noticed that the language preference in the upper right hand corner of the screen (between the date and time and the Spotlight icon) had somehow gotten switched from American English to French.  When I switched it back to American English, my password worked when waking the computer from sleep mode.  I have no idea why changing the language preference would affect the way the password works but that seems to have been the case.  I'll post again if I experience more problems.

  • After use, I shut the screen down and now a red light is flashing where the sleep indicator is, when I open the computer up it asks for a password, but my computer doesn't have a lock on it?

    Regarding your new Guest Account.
If it is the Guest User created by Find My Mac, it is advisable that you leave it be in order to maintain the functionality of the Find My Mac system. It is not a typical guest account. A person can't use the account to log into the system. It only permits the user (presumably a thief) to use a crippled version of Safari, in which the thief will reveal his/her location, hopefully to an end result wherein you may be able to recover the stolen computer.
The very nature of this unique guest account is to increase the security of the system, not to degrade it as a typical guest account might do.

  • AIR event when computer awakes from sleep mode?

    Hi,
I have an AIR app that displays a new set of photos every 12 hours. Some users are complaining that the photos are not refreshed after 12 hours if the computer had been in sleep mode over night.
At first I thought possibly the Timer was stopping when in sleep mode so I instead modified the Timer to execute every minute and just check to see if the last refresh was at least then 12 hours ago. This still did not solve the issue.
Is there an event dispatched I can listen for to detch when the computer awakes from sleep mode? Or if any one has any other suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

This happens onlyon my Powerbook G4 15" 1.33GHZ, and not on my iBook 700MHz. When the PB awakes from sleep mode, any open browser quits. Following is, as an example, the debug output in Terminal of Firefox quitting (I have already sent those reports both to Apple and to the authors of the browser).

  • My computer shuts down instead of sleeps when battery drains...

    Hi there!
So, I just got a new MacBook Pro (the better 15" one) in June. I've noticed, however, that when my battery drains, and the little warning comes up that says "your computer will go to sleep in a few minutes to preserve data," if I let it run all the way out, it doesn't go to sleep but just shuts down. When I reopen my computer after plugging it in, all my stuff is back, but I do have to press the power button and start it up again.
My old computer (White MacBook 2006) always actually went to sleep, and only if I let it sleep for a long time did it shut off.
Have they changed the behavior? Do the laptops only shut down, and no longer sleep when the battery is gone? Or is something wrong with my computer. I'm getting all my data back, and all the windows and stuff are still open, so that's not a problem for me, but if my computer is working incorrectly only three months after buying it, then I'd like to know...
Thanks! Let me know what further information you need to help!

Your computer is not shutting down — it's hibernating, also called "safe sleep". This is indicated by the fact that everything you were working on is undisturbed when you wake it by pressing the power button.
The contents of RAM are written to the hard drive before the machine enters safe sleep, so that if the battery drains completely before you wake it, the contents of RAM (including your unsaved work) won't be completely lost. This is different from ordinary sleep, in which the machine simply suspends all activity without writing anything to disk. If the machine went into ordinary sleep after giving you a low-battery warning and not getting any cooperation from you (i.e. you didn't heed the warning and plug in AC power), and then you didn't wake it for twelve or fifteen hours, the battery might have gone completely dead and your unsaved work would be lost.
In short, yes, this is new behavior compared to several years ago, and from what you tell us, your machine is working exactly as it's supposed to.

  • When my new MacBookPro/Lion awakes from sleep I get network Diagnostics telling me I'm not connected to the internet. After I step through ND it says connection is fine and I can connect. software bug? Corrupted file carried forward from my old Mac?

When my brand new MacBookPro awakes from sleep it has lost its internet connection. It goes to Network Diagnostics and I need to step through all the pages to get to the end where it says connection is o.k. Is this a bug in Lion or could it be a corrupt file migrated over from my old MacBook Pro which would frequently lose its Airport connection and couldn't be reconnected until it cooled down. (This one always shows full bars on the Airport indicator).

That's definitely just paranoia.  First, because in sleep mode, there's no internet connection.  The computer might as well be turned off as far as the network is concerned, and there's no activity in the computer other than a bare trickle of electricity to maintain the RAM.  The processor is doing nothing.
Second, Macs are quite difficult to hack, and if you're on a wireless network, the wireless router protects you from incoming attacks from the outside world.
Of course, you should be able to leave Safari open with no open windows and not affect your ability to get online when it wakes up.  If you can reproduce that reliably, and if I can as well (haven't had a chance to try it yet), then it should be reported to Apple.

  • Play sound when awaking from sleep?

Hello! I'd like to make my Mac play a sound (.aif file) each time it awakes from sleep... any way to do this? How about playing a sound when starting up?
    Thanks!
    John Berry
    iMac g5 Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi, John.
    1. SleepWatcher isn't a tool for Terminal newbies, but it's the only utility of its kind of which I am aware. My book focuses on troubleshooting — valuable on its own — but not programming: implementing tasks with utilities like SleepWatcher is clearly in the programming category and involves writing shell scripts or AppleScripts.
I don't do programming tutorials on the Discussions since they can become very time consuming and if you make errors, then we get into a long thread trying to resolve them, which can be very difficult using a vehicle like the Discussions. I try to focus my limited time here on helping people troubleshoot their Macs. For questions like your post, I try to point them in the right direction or give them steps that can be accomplished without programming. I'm sure you can appreciate that.
    2. You wrote: "Also, I can add my file to the Login Items pane but it doesn't automatically play -- QT starts up, loads the file, but it doesn't play automatically..."I see you sorted that out. I suspect you did so by changing the default application for the sound file in question to QuickTime and have QuickTime preferences set to play movies automatically when opened.
With QuickTime Pro you can save any sound file as a .sfil file and use PlaySnd to play it via Method B in my prior post.
    3. You wrote: "I've been a Mac user since 1984... it was easy then, your file just went in the Startup Items folder (that doesn't seen to have the same function anymore...)."It still does.
Whether something is placed in /Library/StartupItems or added to your account's Login Items depends on if it is a System-wide function that should be started for all users before any users log in (e.g. enable the process used by anti-virus solution), or execute when a specific user logs in, respectively.
The SleepWatcher case is different: you need to know how to program the specific action you want the Mac to perform when sleep is invoked using a shell script.
There are plenty of resources available to learn the Terminal and Shell Scripting.
    - I recommend some books and other online resources in my "Learning About Mac OS X" FAQ.
    - Once you've made some headway in learning Terminal, one can find a plethora of resources concerning shell scripting with this Google search.
    - There are a variety of Developer-related Apple Discussions for asking coding questions concerning UNIX/Terminal, AppleScript, etc.
    - You could always e-mail SleepWatcher's author (his e-mail address is at the bottom of his Web page) for advice.
Why not take up the challenge of learning Terminal and a bit about shell scripting? It can be fun as well as a valuable skill. We only grow by challenge!

  • Computer Won't Go To Sleep When Closed

When I close my computer, it doesn't go to sleep, the light just stays on. This started last night -- my computer was open and I thought it was plugged in, but it wasn't so the power ran out. When I plugged it in, I had to wait a few minutes while the computer got a bit of charge (even plugged in) in order to turn on the computer. But since then, when I close it, it doesn't go to sleep. If I hit the power button and put the computer to sleep, it will stay sleeping when I close the computer. Any thoughts?

There are many possible reasons for this problem. Here one thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/1674788#1674788
The best bet is, to check the error logs: open Console (Applications > Utilities) and paste here the last lines ... I am sure, there must be a daemon trying in vain to connect to the internet ...

Have you copied your content over from your old computer and onto the new on ? If not, and you still have your old computer, then there a number of methods described on this page which you can use to copy your library over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 . If you no longer have your old computer then have you got a backup of your content that you can copy onto the new computer and add into iTunes ?
