My computer doesn't recognize my Ipod and it is disabled

After not using my ipod touch fro a while, I forgot the password. I used up all the tries, and now it says that it is diabled and i have to connect it to my itunes. When I plug it into my Windows 8 computer, itunes doesn't recgonize my ipod. It is on file for back up, but nothing happens. My itunes is up to date. I don't know what to do. I've tried so many different things.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

When I plug my iPod up to my computer, my computer doesn't recognize that the iPod is plugged in. I've tried reinstalling iTunes and this iPod has synced with this computer before.

    Hy there,
In order for you to solve this problem you have to follow these stept if your running windows:
1'st step is to go into the device manager
2 step is to go to portable devices (it is right under network adapters)
3 step is to right clic apple ipod and click update drivers
4 step is to brows your drivers from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
After that your itunes will pump up alown and youl see your iphone right there.
If these doesent work try restarting your device and then see what happens.

  • My Windows 8.1 computer doesn't recognize my iPod nano 7th generation. Why?

My Windows 8.1 computer doesn't recognize my iPod nano 7th generation. Why?
When I connect my iPod to my computer, nothing happens. I've read the tips in the section "support" and I noticed that maybe Windows 8 is not one of the operating systems that are compatible with an iPod nano 7th generation. If I'm right, what can I do if my only device is a Windows 8?

    Hi, Grafiti.
Thank you for the question.  Below, I have attached a couple troubleshooting articles that will help resolve the device not being recognized by iTunes.

  • My computer doesn't recognize my iphone and it shows up the apple and nothing is working. What can I do ?

My computer doesn't recognize my iphone and now my iphone displays the apple and I can't use it. What can I do ?

First, try to do a hard reset of your phone. (Hold down the Home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time for about 10 seconds. When the screen flashes and the Apple appears again, release the buttons.)
If that doesn't work, then you may have to put your phone in restore mode.
Power off your phone and disconnect it from the USB cable.
    Close iTunes.
Then press and hold the Home button and while keeping the Home button pressed down, connect the phone to the USB cable.
Continue to hold the Home button pressed down.
After a few seconds, you should see the display prompt you to connect to iTunes.
After that, you should be able to restore your phone from iTunes.

  • My computer doesn't recognize my iPod when hooked up through a USB port?

I restarted my computer and my iPod, and it doesn't work. The iPod does not recognize being hooked up to a computer, and the computer does not recognize that the iPod is hooked up to it. My iPod's not even charging when connected to my computer. This first occured when I disconnected my iPod from my XBox 360 while the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen was shown. However, the iPod still works with my XBox 360 as well as my AC adapter charger. The iPod also does not show in Device Manager, so it's not recognized by Windows or iTunes. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

  • My computer doesn't recognize my ipod. Help.

I have an ipod 3 and an HP Windows Vista computer. 5 months ago my USB cable was starting to break and sometimes not work, so I desided to buy a new one. I went to Mexico for a family visit (where I'm from) and desided to buy one there while I was at it. But the brand was not apple. When I came back home I used the new USB cable and it worked fine, better than fine, actually, for two months at least, two weeks ago whenever I connected my ipod to the computer many different things started to happened each time:
My computer would send me a message saying "USB Device Not Regognized. 'One of the USB devices conected to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it'" (The most common. Happens 5 of every 6 times I conect my ipod) Also I have my ipod set to download all the images from the ipod to computer whenever I saved images in my ipod with "windows Photo Gallery" and even if my computer recognizes the ipod, windows gallery recognizes it too but it doesn't dowload the images because it says there's an error.
For some miracle the computer recognized the ipod but when itunes opens it freezes
If Itunes works for some other miracle itunes tells me the ipod could not be recognized because there was an error from the iphone (when it's not even a iphone)
So I'd really need your help. Is it my computer, my ipod or itunes? Or just what's going on? 'Cause it had all been working fine for me before and this issue started out of nowhere. PLEASE and thank you.

Could be the iPod, the computer or the cable.  Can you borrow a know good cable?  Also see:

    Hello France007,
It sounds like your iPod Shuffle is not being recognized in iTunes in Windows. I found this article for you to help troubleshoot the issue named:

Here is a general overview of what the troubleshooting will entail:
    1. Start with the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant

If you're still experiencing the issue after going through each of the steps in the assistant, continue with the steps below in this article. The most likely solutions are listed below (for both USB and FireWire (IEEE 1394) iPod connections). Check each section starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping your iPod from appearing.
Note: To determine if your iPod syncs via USB or FireWire, check the table in the Additional Information section below.

    15. Determine if there may be an issue with your computer

  • My New computer doesn't recognize my ipod nano

my old computer crashed. i now have a new laptop. i have installed my iPod software and the latest iTunes. i can go into iTunes, access the music store, and everything else... but when i plug up my iPod, it doesnt pop up in the source menu in iTunes. the iPod is showing DO NOT DISCONNECT so i know that the cable and USB port are good. i registered it on this new computer and everything but i dont know why it wont recognize that its plugged up and let me put more songs on it. ive searched these threads and cant find a straight up answer that doesnt involve erasing my whole iPod. is that my only option? ive spent $100+ on iTunes from my old computer and granted i know i cant put these songs onto my new laptop, i at least want them to stay on my iPod! can anyone please help?
    IBM ThinkPad   Windows 2000

thanks for replying! im assuming you mean these...
    1. Reset your iPod, iPod nano, iPod mini, or iPod shuffle.
    2. Retry your iPod with a different USB or FireWire port on your computer (please note that the latest iPods can only be synced through USB).
    3. Restart your computer, and make sure that you have the latest software updates installed.
    4. Reinstall your iPod and iTunes software. You can download the latest versions of iPod Updater and iTunes from our website.
    5. Restore your iPod using the latest iPod Updater. Important: Please note that restoring an iPod will erase all songs and files on your iPod and restore it back to its original settings. Make a backup of any files on your iPod before restoring it. After restoring, you can transfer your music and files from your computer back to your iPod again.
I did reset my iPod, tried restarting the computer, and reinstalled iPod on here AND updated iTunes to the latest version. I only have one USB port on this laptop, so its possible it isn't high-powered (is that the right term?) enough for iPod? This computer is pretty old. So aside from that the last option in your suggestion is the Restore. I just don't understand how that can be the only option just because I got a new computer. If so I wish I had known that before using iTunes to buy my music
