Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes. Are you a Mac or PC user?
Hm so have you also tried completely erasing your iPod?

  • My Windows 8.1 computer doesn't recognize my iPod nano 7th generation. Why?

My Windows 8.1 computer doesn't recognize my iPod nano 7th generation. Why?
When I connect my iPod to my computer, nothing happens. I've read the tips in the section "support" and I noticed that maybe Windows 8 is not one of the operating systems that are compatible with an iPod nano 7th generation. If I'm right, what can I do if my only device is a Windows 8?

    Hi, Grafiti.
Thank you for the question.  Below, I have attached a couple troubleshooting articles that will help resolve the device not being recognized by iTunes.

  • My computer doesn't recognize my new itouch...please help...

I got a new i touch for cristmas, and everytime i connect it to my computer, it wont recognize it.(I have an Ibook G4, Mac OS X 10.4.11 just in case) However, it does work fine on my step dads computer. The USB has to be working fine, because it does charge the ipod, but i cant see it on the desktop or on i tunes. I have the latest update on itunes, and i have done everything that the troubleshooting sections in this site have told me, yet nothing.

I have the same problem as the person you helped in this section. My iBook G4 with Mac OS X v10.4.11 has the same problem when I purchased a 2nd Generation iPod touch and the Mac won't recognize when the iPod touch is connected into iTunes. The error message I keep getting is 0xE8000001. I've logged in as an administrator and still iTunes won't let me connect. I have iTunes 8.0.2 for the Mac with Software 2.2 for iPod touch, and still I can't get iTunes 8 to recognize the iPod.

  • Help - My computer doesn't recognize the ipod nano

I bought a new 4GB nano yesterday. I plugged it in and charged it with the USB. It does not show up on itunes and I can't eject it. My 2GB nano works fine. Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with the nano? Thanks.

I got a new nano 4GB for my son. It shows up on I tunes with a padlock symbol at bottom of screen. I can't do anything with it on I tunes. I have a shuffle and any music from that transfers onto the Nano. He can here music through the Nano but can do nothing on the I tunes page.

  • Computer does not recognize my ipod nano (2nd gen.)

    Hi!
I'm having a problem with my 2nd generation ipod nano. My ipod itself works fine! The thing is that my computer won't recognize it. It says something about there being some "malfunction" or other. Also, for some reason it doesn't want to charge right. Can someone please help me with this?

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.

  • How I Got my Windows PC to recognize my Ipod Nano 3rd gen

Much like many of you, I could not get my computer to recognize my brand new Ipod Nano 3g. I was able to fix it, and now hope that this post will help others:
    *The Symptom:*
After plugging Ipod in, Windows recognizes a new USB device had been plugged in, but I received an error message while it was installing the driver. In Windows Device Manager, the error was '*Code 10: Device Cannot Start*' and the Apple Ipod had the yellow exclamation point next to it.
After fruitlessly searching through the forums, and reading and attempting all the Apple support documents (like the 5R's), I had gotten nowhere. I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes about 10 times, deleted registry entries, etc, and NONE of the suggested fixes worked.
Important note: I tested my iPod on my Laptop and it worked, so I KNEW the issue was confined somehow to my main computer, and wasn't a hardware problem with the ipod. I suggest if you have a second computer available (even like a work computer), test the ipod there.
I turned to Google, and found a blog that helped me fix the problem in 10 minutes or less. To give that guy some credit, here is the link: http://blog.irreverence.co.uk/?p=467
    *The Fix:*
To sum it all up, basically the problem was not iTunes, Quicktime, or corrupted software. *Ipods evidently don't like other USB devices and/or drivers* (I know there's an apple support doc on this, but it didn't help me!).
*Here are the steps I performed:*
    1. I went into the Device Manager and uninstalled any USB Devices (such as my Logitech Webcam, and printer) by right clicking on each device and hitting "Uninstall".
    2. I pulled all these devices out of my computer, leaving no USB devices attached (you should be ok leaving a mouse attached).
    3. I uninstalled a USB 2.0 Driver program that was listed in the Windows Add/Remove programs list (I suspect this might have been the issue).
    4. I rebooted the computer.
    5. Plugged Ipod in...and boom it worked!
It would seem that playing around with your USB devices might help you if you're tried everything that Apple suggests on the Support pages. I hope this helps some of you out there.

    Hi Daboo14,
You can always recycle the iPod through Apple.
There is either a mail in option or you could recycle it at an Apple Retail Store and get 10% a new iPod.
    Go to: http://www.apple.com/recycling/ipod-cell-phone/

  • My New computer doesn't recognize my ipod nano

my old computer crashed. i now have a new laptop. i have installed my iPod software and the latest iTunes. i can go into iTunes, access the music store, and everything else... but when i plug up my iPod, it doesnt pop up in the source menu in iTunes. the iPod is showing DO NOT DISCONNECT so i know that the cable and USB port are good. i registered it on this new computer and everything but i dont know why it wont recognize that its plugged up and let me put more songs on it. ive searched these threads and cant find a straight up answer that doesnt involve erasing my whole iPod. is that my only option? ive spent $100+ on iTunes from my old computer and granted i know i cant put these songs onto my new laptop, i at least want them to stay on my iPod! can anyone please help?
    IBM ThinkPad   Windows 2000

thanks for replying! im assuming you mean these...
    1. Reset your iPod, iPod nano, iPod mini, or iPod shuffle.
    2. Retry your iPod with a different USB or FireWire port on your computer (please note that the latest iPods can only be synced through USB).
    3. Restart your computer, and make sure that you have the latest software updates installed.
    4. Reinstall your iPod and iTunes software. You can download the latest versions of iPod Updater and iTunes from our website.
    5. Restore your iPod using the latest iPod Updater. Important: Please note that restoring an iPod will erase all songs and files on your iPod and restore it back to its original settings. Make a backup of any files on your iPod before restoring it. After restoring, you can transfer your music and files from your computer back to your iPod again.
I did reset my iPod, tried restarting the computer, and reinstalled iPod on here AND updated iTunes to the latest version. I only have one USB port on this laptop, so its possible it isn't high-powered (is that the right term?) enough for iPod? This computer is pretty old. So aside from that the last option in your suggestion is the Restore. I just don't understand how that can be the only option just because I got a new computer. If so I wish I had known that before using iTunes to buy my music

  • Itunes 7.5 doesn't recognize by iPod nano (2nd gen)

After upgrading to iTunes 7.5, my Macs won't recognize the presence of my iPod nano. The iPod knows its connected, because the battery is charging, but iTunes doesn't know it's there and so can't sync. Any ideas?

This sounds like what my iPod Classic was doing a few weeks ago (before the 7.5 release of iTunes.) In my case, it turned out to need a simple reset of my iPod...
Read http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705 and see if that helps any. If not, take a look at which version of the iPod software yours is running... I know there were a few bum version numbers out for a short while... at least for the Classic.
