  • My Computer Has Been Taken Over by the Matrix

Can anyone explain this? This is the second time this issue has happened. The first time it happened was a few weeks back. You cannot use the computer when this happens; force quitting accomplishes nothing. Fortunately, however, you can take a screen shot. I was using the 9600GT to avoid the screen flickering associated with using the 9400GT.

My computer is just being a real bundle of joy right now. It's not recognizing either of the install CDs. One of them makes an odd noise and ejects within 10 seconds of inserting it, which the other spins for 5 minutes (speeding up, then slowing down), and then the computer ultimately claims I've inserted a blank disk.
-They ARE the correct install discs for this computer.
-The are not scratched AT ALL.
-My computer has ZERO physical damage.

  • Network has been taken over by other program! please help...

    hello everyone
I have an eMac and the problem is that, everytime that I am trying to access the Network tab in System Preferences, I get a message that it's been taken over by another application!
Can anyone help me on that? Is it a matter of permissions or something else?
Any useful commands or software to fix the problem?
    Thanks in advance!

I have a broadband connection with BT Internet via the BT Home Hub (i.e. router), but I also still have an old dial-up account with OneTel. I have had no trouble at all with my BT broadband connection, but one contact of mine persistently fails to receive e-mails from me and I wanted to conduct some tests, so I decided (amongst other things) to try my OneTel dial-up service, which I haven't used for a long time.
I immediately ran into the problem of the 'Your network settings have been changed…' problem. I rebooted — no improvement. I ran Disk Warrior — no improvement. I then tried the idea of mouse-over-lock idea and it worked. But what is more remarkable is that after I disconnected from OneTel (i.e. closed the internal modem down) and then tried again, it worked straight away, without the persistent error message coming up. Thank you very much for the 'mouse-over-lock' suggestion. Whether, after I have shut my computer down and restarted, the 'repair' will still be operatve, or whether I shall have to go through the procedure again, I don't yet iknow.

  • My creative cloud subscription has been taken over by somebody else

I've been in customer service purgatory.  Am feeling desperate so came here for help.  My case # is 209864626.
In October I purchased the Adobe Creative Cloud for $19.99 a month (using the educational discount).  Shortly after that, my computer broke, and I did not have the opportunity to use the software, until now, when I have a new computer.  When I log in to my account, using the email I always use, I do not see the Creative Cloud and I am unable to use any of its features.  I am, however, being charged for it.
In my speaking with customer service, I've been told that there is another email associated with my credit card.  I don't know how this could be, and can only assume there has been some fraud or hacking - whether on your side or mine, I don't know.  But since I don't know what email is now associated with the account (and how would I, since it's not mine?), so far customer service seems to be unable to help.
What I do know is that if I am paying for a monthly service, I ought to have access to it.  I know that I have not yet used any of the features of the creative cloud - if somebody else has, then they are not authorized and are accessing it fraudulently.
I would like to be able to log in to my account (or get a new account) that is signed up to my credit card (that I have already been paying) and use this service.  The only suggestion that I've been given by customer service is to cancel the current subscription on my credit card and start a new one.  But the creative cloud is no longer offered at the price of $19.99, so if this is the only solution, I would like some assistance in signing up a new account at the previous price.
I'm really hoping you can assist.  Thanks in advance for looking into this for me.

    Hi Beccabakkerwells,
It looked like you had an issue with your email being incorrect but it was changed and the issue resolved. Is the issue solved now?

  • My system has been taken over by os x

    How do I stop it?

If he is really on 10.5, maybe his machine dual boots into OS9, and he no longer has that option because the system 9 system is "unblessed". 8^)
    But we are just guessing.

  • My computer has been infected with a Trojan Horse.  It has completely taken over my Mac email account and was sending out malicious email to everyone in my address book.  At the same time it infected my iPhone---I am no longer able to receive or send emai

My computer has been infected by a Trojan Horse.  It has taken over my Mac email account and began sending out malicious emails to everyone in my address book.  I cleared out my MAC address book and began using my AOL email account. It took a few days and then my AOL email account was infected and has now been send out malicious email to all my contacts for over a month.  It has also infected my iPhone--I am no longer able to send or receive emails on my iPhone.  Also, once the Trojan Horse began using my AOL email it completely blocked me from using my MAC account by sending never ending popups asking for my email password to access my MAC email account, but it never accepts my pass word.  The TH has also slowed down everything on my computer.  It's like I am working on an old PC with dial up connection instead of the high speed digital connection that I have.  The little color wheel spins constantly as I wait for sometimes over a minute for a page to pull up.  If it pulls up at all.  I have tried to use the 2 disks that came with my computer to completely remove everything on my computer and then reinstall all the programs, but I am not allowed to sweep my computer clean.  I thought maybe my disks that came with my computer were defective so I called Apple and they sent me 2 new disks.  I am not able able to clear my computer with the 2 new disks either.  I have done this before successfully so it's not something new to me.  I do remember when I believe my computer became infected:  I had googled an unusual sewing term, and I was opening what appeared to be legitimate sites, when all of a sudden a pop up appeared that said that my computer had been infected.  I immediately shut my computer off, but it was too late.  I downloaded a virus program for Mac, and it has never found a virus or problem at all.  I think it is part of this Trojan Horse, but I am unable to delete it from my computer.  It refuses to uninstall.  The Mac Trojan Horse is real and it is terrible.  If anyone has any suggestions for me I would be very appreciative,
    Beth

Install ClamXav and run a scan with that. It should pick up any trojans.

  • My safari browser seems to have been taken over by a malicious program called only-search.  Does any one know how to uninstall this program from safari?  I am running osX 10.10.

My safari browser seems to have been taken over by a malicious program called only-search.  Does any one know how to uninstall this program from safari?  I am running osX 10.10.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • HT5318 Ever since I updated what looked like iTunes 10.6.1 my computer has been corrupted with Malware, which has filled up all available space on my hard drive.  What do I do to get rid of the Malware?

Ever since I updated what looked like iTunes 10.6.1 my computer has been corrupted with Malware, which has filled up all available space on my hard drive.  What do I do to get rid of the Malware?

First, reboot. That will temporarily free up some space. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB free for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root.
First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
After installing ODS in the Applications folder, drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • My computer has been seen at Genius bar 6 times for freezing up, reloaded all original settings and even went to the apple shop where they replaced the battery and logic board. Still freezes after I try to reload iTunes stuff and app stuff from apple

my computer has been seen at Genius bar 6 times for freezing up, reloaded all original settings, all of their diagnostics, and they even sent it to the apple shop where they replaced the battery and logic board. Still freezes after I try to reload iTunes stuff and app stuff from apple, especially iPhoto which is seems to refuse to load and then begins freezing up all over again. Anyone else have this problem. Other than this, I have had absolutely no problems with this computer. Now, it's a file of junk.

    Hi Ronald ...
Have you checked lately to see how much free space there is on the disk? Especially since iPhoto freezes at launch ...
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
And make sure the OS X software is up to date.
Click the Apple  top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click:   Software Update
If you have anti virus software installed or are using third party Mac cleaning utiliites, that may be part and parcel of the your problems.

  • Hi, I loaded an iTunes card and bought an audiobook a few weeks back! I was unable to download it because my wifi was down, my wifi has just been fixed but now my audiobook purchase is not available but the cash has been taken? Any ideas how to solve this

Hi, I loaded an iTunes card and bought an audiobook a few weeks back! I was unable to download it because my wifi was down, my wifi has just been fixed but now my audiobook purchase is not available but the cash has been taken? Any ideas how to solve this

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

  • How to chek if the username has been taken

    hi all,
i have a swing panel to indicate user to create his account by entering his user name, password and other data.
how can i implement the program to check if the user name has been taken
, then go back to tell user that his user name can not be taken.
otherwise, go on the store whole data entered by the user.
    thanks

Sorry I forgot to mention speed is just not an issue
    on a single record lookup.
    rykk
so it means if you want to check a single record exists or not in db > for 100 times, either you will create a new database connection 100
times or you will use the connection from pool, I think both the
cases are slower than doing a lookup in hashtable. Of course it is slower. The point is it does not matter if it is slower as users will be logging on 1 at a time over a period of time. The time to establish a connection (assuming you are not using connection pooling), query for a single record and close the connection is exceptionally quick. This is assuming you have a server that is even close to adquate. The only time to worry is if your server is loaded beyond capacity and any query is degrading other user functions. In normal systems the user will be interacting with the database in all the various functions they perform - it is much more important to worry about efficency in these functions.

For a while now my computer has been saying " Start up disk is nearly full", however I don't have a lot of stuff saved on the computer I moved a lot to a flash drive, and all the other stuff are songs and recently saved essays for school. I have and frequently empty my trash can. I have researched this before and i see a lot of things that say get a external hard drive, but before I go and purchase one I want to make sure there is no other, simpler way, to solve this problem. Help Please.

You need an external drive so you can free up disk space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.

Why has iTunes taken over the iPhoto function?  I can not attach pictures to files because I can not find them.  This has happened suddenly as if there were some keystrokes that changed the previous pattern. I am not able to upload pictures to programs such as Shutterfly because I can not find them.  When I try to upload, the computer takes me to an iTunes folder.

    How are you uploading?
