Hi,
It might be worth resetting the bios defaults as follows.
Shut down the PC.  Tap away at the esc key as soon as you start the PC to enter the Start-up Menu and then select the Bios menu ( usually f10 ).  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

I understand that a few days ago you had sound and now you only have sound when you plug in your headset and that you are running Windows 8.1. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8), which will walk you through restoring your computer back to before this happened. As you stated it is only 2 days I would go back a week. This will not affect your personal files, but it will affect any applications or settings that have been installed or changed in the past week.
Please re-post if you require additional assistance. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Hp pavilion g6-1d28dx, there was an error message about a driver, now the computer has no sound. :(

    Computer: HP Pavilion g6-1d28dx
    System: Windows 7 - 64 bit
Error Message: "Driver not installed properly" I did not accept any drivers to install, and it did not specify what it was trying to install.
I made no changes to the system that I know of..
And now, my sound does not work. I tried through the internet and Windows Media Player. WMP gives me an error message when I try to play music, and will not play. The error message states "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file." When I click the "web help" button from WMP it tells me to update my drivers, but my computer says all sound based drivers are up to date.
    Help?

Download & Save the latest  IDT Audio driver. In Control Panel, Programs & Features uninstall the IDT software, restart the laptop and use the downloaded file to reinstall.

  • My computer has no sound

hi my macbook pro has lost sound - have done all the basic thngs to fix (pram restart) and there is there nothing jammed in the jack. Any ideas?

Go step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers.
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and  remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

If that doesn't cure it, Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

  • I think my computer has been hacked, help please?

    Hi,
A couple of days a go, after having my laptop for nearly two years, I have started to have major issues with it. When I log on, as soon as I get on to my desktop, without any encouragement, it starts doing its own thing such as the mouse moving around in a very jagged manner and generally resisting anything I attempt to do. It is making my computer incredably slow and its so frustrating. Even worse, I am frightened I may have picked up something and that someone is controlling my machine but the issue is I know so very little about computers, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have changed browsers (used to use Safari, now I use FireFox) and have backed up all my files on to a hard drive and am thinking about restoring the mac to it's factory settings but I am unsure whether this would mean I would lose all my applications which I desperately can't afford to do. It only happens occasionally, so at the present it is fine but it occurs out of the blue and is very unnerving. I have two anti virus programmes on here: ClamXav and iAntiVirus which suggest that there are no virus found on the computer. I have also been monitoring the activity monitor and although nothing has particularly drawn much attention, it can be fair to say I am not entirely sure what I am looking for.
Is there any way to double check to see as to whether my computer is infected and if so what would be my next move?
    Muchly appreciated

The anti-virus software is not the problem.  Yes, Shootist is correct that AV software can be almost as much of a problem as getting infected with malware, but ClamXav is one that is good.  Having two isn't so good, though, so ditch iAntivirus at least.  And see my Mac Malware Guide for more information to protect yourself from malware.
Similarly, the firewall is also not the problem.  You almost certainly do not need a firewall.  See Do I need a firewall? for more information on that.
Most likely, you are not being hacked.  If I understand you correctly, it doesn't seem like the mouse has any purpose to its actions - is that correct?  If so, my first thought would be that your battery has gone bad and is expanding, and in the process is pressing on the underside of the trackpad.  That is a known cause of this kind of behavior.  Though I must admit I've never seen a battery expand, it does happen.  I'd advise getting the machine looked at by Apple ASAP.
If the movements do appear purposeful, someone could be playing a prank on you.  Check System Preferences -> Sharing and make sure everything there is turned off.  If Screen Sharing is on, someone may have been using that to access your machine, most likely someone who knows your MobileMe password (if you have MobileMe) or someone on the same local network that you're using.
(Note that my pages contain links to other pages that promote my services, and this should not be taken as an endorsement of my services by Apple.)

  • Shared computer has disappeared - Need help !!!

    i have an i*Mac 2.16ghz* (leopard 10.5.1) & a *macbook pro 2.4gh*z (leopard 10.5.1)
when i click on "shared" from my iMac to connect to my MBP i get _"connection failed"_
when i do the same from my MBP to connect to iMac i connect without a problem.
if i click "connect as" or "shared screen" ,on either computer, i can input user name and password and connect fine.
    *some background info*
today for some reason leopard decided to make my HD disappear from the desktop and finder window on my iMac.
so i done some searching and rang this script:
    +tell application "System Events"+
+ set visible of disk "NameofDisk" to true+
    +end tell+
    +tell application "Finder" to quit+
    +delay 1+
    +tell application "Finder" to launch+
this worked and i got my HD showing back up again.
i dont know if this is related to the disappearing shared device.
i have went to preferences and unticked and reticked the file sharing and screen sharing and restarted both computer and still nothing.
    im at a loss.

As you have found out (the hard way) you can't resize a Boot Camp partition safely (one exception, CampTune can)
Backing up your Windows installation may be possible using WinClone, or you could try to image the entire drive using Disk Utility.
You are likely to have to erase the entire drive and reinstall though.
There is a very knowledgable poster on this site, Christopher Murphy. Look for one of his threads and post a request in it for his help, you may be able to get out of this without reinstalling anything with his help.

  • Updated iOS 6.1 and my iphone 4S has no sound HELP!!!

Just downloaded iOS 6.1 and lost all my sound - no ringtones, no music, no notifications, just vibration. My alarm clock won't even make a sound. PLEASE help!

Mine is iPhone 4S (warranty is void). I'am having the same problem. Sometimes back to normal (after idle for a while), but not last. Turning off the phone raises back the issue.
    - On volume up/down button clicked: Ringer overlay is shown but not bars
    - No lock/unlock sound
    - No notification sound
    - It's ringing when receive phone call or set volume from Sound setting
    - After turned off, iPhone won't turn on unless plugged to charger
    I've done these:
    - Cleaned up charging port
    - Dryed the iPhone (hairdryer; below the sunlight) - just in case
    - Reset all settings
I haven't restore the phone since I'm not sure if messages, mails, WhatsApp, LINE (etc) histories will back after synced from backup.
I read that deleting com.apple.iapd.plist (Root>System>Library>LaunchDaemons) can fix this, but it needs jailbraking (iFile/iExplorer) which I don't want to. Furthermore, "Deleting the 'com.apple.iapd.plist' may effect the functioning of hardware accessories that go with various apps, such as FM transmitters and Nike accessories, etc." —wisso (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3790682?start=45&tstart=0)
I'm not sure if some apps crash with latest iOS update and cause this.
I'm still looking for the right solution.

  • My computer has lost sound on utube but still plays on itunes

Hi, I no longer have sound on utube or news channels but do have sound on itunes.
    ideas?
    Garrett

    Hmmm, looks serious from here...
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
After reboot, do we still get those 2 errors?

  • My iphone 5 doesn't sync with itunes on my pc. it says this computer has  previously been synced to another io6 device or iphone? please help what to do?

My iphone 5 doesn't sync with itunes on my pc. it says this computer has  previously been synced to another io6 device or iphone? please help what to do?

The error message you're seeing is likely the other way around -- i.e. something like "This iPhone has previously been synced with a different computer".   There's no problem syncing multiple iOS devices to the same computer.
However, the reverse is not true for the iPhone --  you cannot connect an iPhone to another computer without it being erased, even if you manually manage music and video.  So, it sounds like you've been syncing your iPhone to a different computer?
Also, 5.1 (not 5.0.1) is the latest iOS.

  • Help* Getting a pop up that says Your Apple computer has been blocked

My partner was using my laptop yesterday and was trying to download the NHL hockey game stream from nhl-stream.com. He tried downloading it and downloaded MacKeeper and some video player. This morning I realized what he did so I googled how to uninstall MacKeeper and did so. I was unable to find the help file to delete for MacKeeper. I also deleted the video player and everything recent from the downloads. Now I'm havinganor problems with my MacBook Pro. When I use Safari it's no longer my regular Google homepage it's search-quick.com which I cannot get rid of? (Anyone can tell me how that would be helpful)
My biggest problem is the pop up that comes up and says
*YOUR APPLE COMPUTER HAS BEEN BLOCKED*
    Mac System Alert!!
System has been infected due to unexpected error! Please Contact Apple Care 1-855-680-7080 Immediately! To unblock your computer....
I Googled other pop ups like these on apple support and they says to hit Control W to close the window then change security preferences. The control W does not close the window I can only get rid of it by clicking Force Quit. Then when I reopen Safari either the Popup immediately comes or the first website i search it comes. Sometimes I also get new windows open for MacKeeper. This is very frustrating and I am still learning on how to work around my Mac. I have never found a problem with my computer before he went and downloaded the game.
IF anyone can direct me in the right direction to have this removed so it's safe again to go on my banking etc that would be great! I tried to call apple support but of course my call support has expired!

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, close Safari, and then launch it with the Shift key held down. If that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.
If that message continues to appear, click here and run Adware Medic; the MacKeeper popups may also be produced by adware. You may need to use a different web browser.
