My computer has reverted back to its original state!! Help!!!
I was using my computer and went to log into ichat, it acted like I had never logged into the program before, asking me to enter my screen name and password. I then went to go into mail and it did the same thing asking for my email address and outgoing mail servers. I decided to shut down my computer and when I logged back on, the my background image disapeared and the dock had reverted back to its original state. All my other programs do not recognize my previous preferences and my keychain is nowhere to be found in my applications menu. My documents and saved pictures, along with my itunes music is still intact, but the rest of my computer is reverted.
Is there any way to fix this and get my computer back to my personal settings? How do I get my keychain back?
I really need help!!

When I edit a song in itunes (i.e change the year) on purchased songs, the next time I return to itunes, the information has reverted back to the original information. How can I change that?
When I purchase ITunes music, and it is a song from a Greatest Hits album, the Year of the song shows the year the CD was released and not the year the song was released (i.e. a song may be from 1986, but the Greatest Hits album was released in 1999, so my songs in ITunes show 1999). So, I go into each of those songs and change it to the year that I want to be displayed. As long as I don't exit out of ITunes, it will show the year that I changed it to (i.e. the 1986 year in this case). But if I exit out of ITunes and then return to ITunes, the year reverts back to 1999. The same happens if I change the genre of a song from, say 'Pop' to 'Alternative', it will revert back the next time I log in.
Oddly enough, as soon as I right-click on that song to change it back, the year/genre that I had entered returns.
How can I make it so my changes are permanently displayed as I want them? This is pretty annoying when I try to find a song on my Ipod under a certain genre, but it doesn't appear in that genre because the incorrect information gets synched to the Ipod.Make sure that these two options in Edit > Preferences > Store are turned off:

Your metadata entries should then be persistent - with these options checked iTunes will be comparing what you have with the information held in the iTunes Store, and will overwrite with the latter for Store purchases (and if you have iTunes Match). If you have any iOS devices you should also turn off Show All Music under Settings > Music. -
How to restore a 3TB imac fusion drive back to its original state?
I bought a 27"imac with a 3TB fusion drive which stopped working. Ended up having to boot from the internet and since my HD stopped working and wasn't being found by disk utility I erased it using Disk Utility an re-installed OS X. Did OSX automatically get installed in the 128gb SSD drive (under disk util i only see one macintosh hard drive with another one under its first branch but there is no separate ssd drive)?
Also, since then my imac's hard drive haven't stopped making a constant cranking noise as if it's working non-stop (unless the computer goes into sleep mode). Is this normal? Anything I can do to bring it back to its original state?The problem is that I bought my computer in the US and brought it with me to my home in Brazil and over here it's going to take a long time to get it fixed or repair/replace parts if it's necessary. Any other procedure I can try on my own before throwing the towel and taking it in?

I recently updated to iTunes 11 on my Windows PC. Since the update, each time I open iTunes its window is too large for my screen. Resizing it is a pain, because I have to change my screen resolution. And then when I restart iTunes, it has reverted back to being too large. Please help!
Having the same issue here....a quick fix is to just minimize the window, and immediately maximize it. It will now fit the screen. Trouble is, after you close it, you'll have to do it again when you re-start itunes. The good news is it takes all of about 2 seconds. Apple should fix this. Should.

We setup iPads for a mobile lab and students change the settings or set up a pass code on the iPad. Is there a way to lock the settings folder or an app to revert any changes back to the original set up like the program cornerstone (for a pc)?

At present I have windows based programs installed using parallels 7 on my Imac. I now wish to delete all the Windows programs etc and revert the Hard Drive to its original setting i.e single partition. How do I go about it??
It's not clear if you installed Windows in a virtual machine or you installed Windows in Boot Camp but you run it in Parallels.
If you installed Windows in Boot Camp, open "Boot Camp Assistant" (it's in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps to restore your hard disk into one volume. If you installed Windows on a virtual machine, just open Parallels and delete the virtual machine where you have installed Windows -
How do I turn the colors back to the original colors that came on the MacBook. Somehow all of my colors look to be disorganized for instance blue is gold etc. I am not sure how this happened but I really would like it fixed any suggestions?
Your first choice is to go to System Preferences>Displays>Color. Make sure that your profile set is the appropriate one for the MacBook Pro, which should be "Color LCD".
I'm going to skip all of the normal suggestions of resetting this and that, because from what I've researched this in the past, and it appears you have an issue with either the graphics chip (low probability) or a worn cable causing one of the color channels to be bad or your LED screen has a problem.
In other words, it's probably hardware related. -

File has reverted back to old version
Hi,
I opened up an excel spreadsheet and somehow it has reverted back to the original old version that I first made in 2012, I have no idea why it did this.
Normally this wouldn't be a problem as I have saved it multiple times and I back up my mac regularly using time machine, but for some reason all of the versions of this in time machine have saved as this old original from 2012?! I read and edit this spreadsheet at least 2 times a week and have now lost 2 years worth of updates, has anyone had this happen to them before or managed to retrieve any information?

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

My calendar keeps deleting new events and if I make a change to an old event it keeps reverting it back to its original time. How do it stop this from happening?
How do you update it? Basically what has happened my password was disabled for "security reasons" on sunday (21/10/12), so i tried to reset it, but for some reason i couldnt get into my old email (probably because i havent used it for 2 years), so i read on here i could swap it to a new email that i currently use (which is what i have done) ive swapped everythin over to it (facetime, iCloud etc) but keeps coming up with old email and asking for password

Here is the procedure for your reference, using iTunes 10.7. The procedure and screenshots for newer versions are contained in the above link.
This assumes what you purchased is still available in the Store.
Open iTunes and click on iTunes Store on the left
On the right you will see this
Sign in with your Apple ID, then click on "Purchased" (with the orange blob)
On the summary page that appears select the tab "Not on This Computer" on the right.
On the list that appears, select what you want and then click the "Download" button. -
After restarting my computer firefox is deleted for Windows, when i try to open firefox a message pops up saying the program has been moved from its original location and is unable to run How do I get Firefox on my computer permanently?
I have tried everything I could to fix this, but some things require actually being on Firefox, and since I cannot get on, I cannot click on the tabs to do it. I have even totally uninstalled firefox, and that has not fixed this. I still get the same message that firefox is running and I need to close it or restart (which I have also tried dozens of times). I have removed things like Java, and that has not helped either. If I cannot even get on line in firefox, how can I fix this. I am not crazy about using internet explorer, but right now, it is my only option. I even tried to start in safe mode, and the same message box pops up!

A tech rebuilt my iphoto thumbnail cache and afterwards all the changes and editing of all my 4000 photos was gone!
Every phot had reverted back to the original!!!!! WHAT HAPPENED???? Why were all my changes destroyed? Where are the photos that I edited?
Also a bunch of photos disappeared. HELP!!!!!Of course there is no reason that rebuilding a thumbnail cache would cause a loss of all editing of my photos!!! But that's what happened.
I was there when the tech rebuilt the library and thumbnails. He held down shift & command and opened Iphoto and a window appeared with "Rebuild Photo Library" with 6 boxes to check such as
1) Repair Iphoto Library Database
2) Rebuild Iphoto Library Database from automatic backup
3) Rebuild the photos' small thumbnails
4) Rebuild all the photos'thumbnails (this may take a while)
5) Recover orphaned photos in the Iphoto Library Folder
6) Examine and repair IPhotoLibrary file permissions
The tech checked all boxes and after Iphoto has rebuilt everything all my editing was gone and all my photos had reverted back to their originals representing 5 years work.
There are no stuck keys on my keyboard of my computer. -
I have Lightroom 5 on my iMac with OS X 10.9.5. I have lost all my (10,500 pics) "developed" settings. Every picture went back to its original setting. How can I restore? Please help. Thanks, GY
Thank you for your questions/advice. The answer for your 1st question is yes, and "may be" to your 2nd question. Fortunately, I had exported the recently developed photos into my external head drive. After reverting back to the original catalog, I have re-imported those developed photos. Now everything is restored. I need to learn more about the subtleties in using the Lightroom.

Why did you restore without transferring your music to your computer?
