My computer is 2 months old and the windows sound files seem to be corrupted

I have a computer 3 months old and the window sound files are corrupted. When I move the slider in the volumn control I get a pinging, twanging sound. It started about 3/4 weeks ago.
I've made not changes, just one morning I turned on PC and that is what was happening.

You have a couple of options as I see it.
Please First check if the speaker icon on the unit is not muted.
Go to Device manager and uninstall the driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.
Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.
Try to update the driver from hp.com website.

I had a brand new Mac book pro one month old and the hard drive died. Right before it died I was down loading pictures off a memory card and now they aren't on my memory card! They are wedding pictures I took for a friend and irreplaceable! Please help!!

I had a one month old Mac book pro and the hard drive fried! I was down loading a friends wedding pictures when it stopped working and started heating up. I plugged it in and turned it off as it was making a clicking noise. When I turned it back on the was a grey box with a question mark and nothing else. When I took my memory card out the pictures were gone. I took it back to best buy where I bought it and they said it was dead, needed a new hard drive and all my info is lost! Is there any way to get back those irreplaceable wedding pictures?

There are some data recovery programs (software). I would look into that for the images on the card. When files are deleted, the files are still there, just the headers are removed. That being said, a format of the card or new files written to the card can overwrite deleted files.
The physical hard drive could be thousands of dollars to forensically save, with no guarantee.

My Phone switches off automatically, while it is barely a month old and the distributor refuses to give a replacement.

First I buy the phone and it had a heating problem within a few days. Since i bought it from Dubai and live in India it probably took we two weeks to get it back there. They said it was a battery issue and replaced it. Then it started switching off randomly when it has ample charge. This seems to be something they are working on but I would like a replacement. I bought it from a distributor in Dubai (EMax) and they say their policy allows replacement only if it is irrepairable. Does this make any sense if the thing has been having issues since the begining? I am sending it back for the third time now ( Yes all the way back to Dubai!!) What can I do if they further refuse to replace it? Would Apple take this seriously even though I did not but it from an Apple Store?

Your problem is that you purchased your phone from a non-official source. When you do that, & you don't even live in the country you purchased the phone in, you're basically on your own. Apple won't help you, & neither will any of the authorized sources in India or Dubai.

IBook G4 4months old and the Disk if Fullq

Can someone help me? I have a brand new iBook G4, it's now four months old and the disk is full. When I 'Get Info' on my Start up it says 37.14G used and 10.7 available....! When I go to Home 21.6G's used...doh! I know most of this is my itunes....17.6g but I don't know what else is on here....I use this mostly for surfing and iTunes...I do have pics 256mb...so not so much...
What is the problem...I don't understand...I can't even get mail on this computer...ugh!
Is this a 60G? Even so, I don't know what is using all this space...I checked the permissions and that's all good...as far as I can see.
Any help would be great.

Don't bother downloading it again, it's doing what it should. You need to select the hard drive in the left hand box for WhatSize to start calculating. It will take a couple of minutes to calculate everything after you have selected the HD.
As you have trashed GarageBand you can also trash the audio loops associated with it. They are in /Library/Application Support or /Library/Audio.
As John advises, you can safely remove unwanted printer drivers.
Printer drivers are in the HD/Library/Printers folder. You can safely delete any named drivers that you don't have a printer for. For example, if you have a Canon, you can remove Epson, Lexmark, Hewlett Packard & Brother drivers. Epson alone takes up close to 1gb. You can even remove specific drivers from within the manufacturer's folder. For example, if you have an Epson C86 you can safely trash any other specific drivers in the Epson folder like C46, C66 etc. If, at a later date, you buy a printer whose driver you removed they can be added from your install disk, the disk that comes with the printer or downloaded.
Check, too, in your music folder. It is possible that you have, say, 'xyz song' in the first level of your Music folder and the same song in Music/iTunes/iTunes Library. If you are sure that you do have 'xyz song' in iTunes, it is safe to delete from 'Music'. The same principle can apply to your Pictures folder and iPhoto Library, but staying with iTunes for a moment, with iTunes open select Edit in the menu bar, then 'Show duplicate songs'. You can trash duplicates if you are sure that they are true duplicates, i.e. exact name, artist and file size.
It is also possible that you have music in your 'Shared' folder that is duplicated in iTunes.
As my iBook only has a combo drive and I'm not into video editing anyway I have trashed iDVD & iMovie. (Not DVD player). I have also trashed preloaded games and World Book, and its associated files.
Try again with Whatsize and post the report. Don't worry, it'll get sorted

Help with opinion on new battery... only 14 months old and its bad

Got an early 08 MacBook Pro 15.4" Coconut Battery says 167 cycles with 48% capacity remaining... Computer is 14 months old and it gets about 1.5-2 hours of battery to a charge..
Should i go for aftermarket or OEM battery replacement? Im going to Kuwait for deployment and need something that will last.. Apples OEM are expensive but i know you get what you pay for sometime but aftermarket batteries can be just as good..

I asssume it's a laptop!
1st I would run it right down & then do a full recharge, then run it down again + a full recharge..
Check that you do not have any apps running in the background, reset PRAM..
When all's done I usually run a movie & time how long the battery lasts..if after that & no joy call Apple Help..

They stopped making that model four years ago. There is no way it is two months old. Trying connecting it to a computer with iTuens via a USB cable to see if you can re-install the firmware.

Seems the time isn't being saved to your computer correctly, it may be a corrupt file that isn't saving the time anymore.
You can move the
com.apple.systempreferences.plist
file out of your Users/Library/Preferences folder to the desktop and reboot.
then go to your System Preferences > Date and Time and set a time server close to your location (or in your time zone)
(trash the file on the desktop if no ill issues occur later on)
or you can follow/bookmark these support docs to reset your PRAM and SMC (and for future reference)

I don't remember exactly where OS X is keeping it time settings now, but I think one of those choices should help resolve your issue and won't hurt anything giving them a shot. Perhaps someone else could refresh my memory.

Back up your documents and everything else important to you, not that there is any reason to believe your hard disk may be failing, but the symptoms you describe may presage an impending disk failure, and you should have backups anyway.
Given that your MacBook Pro is so new, you should certainly contact AppleCare and take advantage of the free telephone support included in its purchase price.
Until then, if you are motivated to investigate this yourself consider the following:

Your fan(s) will run at high speed (i.e., loudly) while video is playing, and you can't get around that.
If your fans are not slowing down within 2-4 minutes after CPU- and/or GPU-intensive usage ends, and the application that was showing the video is still running, Quit that application. (In fact, if you're accustomed to Windows, you may not realize that simply closing a Mac application's window does not quit the application. You still need to use the Quit command in the application-name menu. There will always be a bright dot beside or below the application icon in your Dock for each application that is open.) Quit the ones you aren't using, and see whether that allows the fans to slow down without restarting the machine. If that doesn't do the trick, reset the SMC:

Sounds like the disk in your MBP is accessing data on wake up
If you are still concerned you can take it into the Apple Store where they can hear it to be sure

Try to reboot it. Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple, about 20 seconds or so. It should reboot and work for you.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these steps in order until the issue is resolved.
Replacing or even suggesting replacing hardware without doing basic troubleshooting first is not very smart.
If basic troubleshooting does not resolve, take it to Apple for evaluation. There is no obligation to pay for anything, the evaluation is free.
