My Computer is a mess.

Hi,
I have a Pavilion s3713w that has been just great since I bought is a couple years ago. A week or so ago the computer started acting strange. It slowed down and things were popping up on the screen that made me think it had a virus or something. I use avast for online security and ran a scan. It said everything was fine (but it really wasn't). I pulled up task manager and saw that the syshost.exe thing was using up more than 90% of the CPU thing. That didn't seem right. I went on the net and tried to do a search of syshost.exe and this problem it was having, but my searches were being re-directed to things that were not related to the search. My computer would not allow me to click on any websites that provided information on how to fix the problem! It was very strange.
I tried doing system restore a couple times, but that didn't work.
Anyway, in a round about way I managed to get to AVG and download their free security protection. I ran a scan and just before the scan was done my computer crashed. I found some info that said to run the scan in safe mode, so I did that. I was watching the scan and it was finding problems and fixing them. Then the computer crashed before it was done.
NOW when I try to turn on my computer it won't boot up at all and the screen goes immediately into sleep mode. I tested the screen with an old (SLOW) computer and it works fine, as does the mouse and keyboard.
I considered reinstalling my entire operating system, but can't find the discs. HP said I can order a new set. They also suggested I press F11 when I turn on my computer and try to re-do the operating system that way, but nothing happens when I press F11. The computer turns on and that's it. nothing. If I do get the discs will they work even though my computer won't even boot up anymore?
So, if anyone has any ideas about what is going on with my computer I would greatly appreciate it. My computer knowledge is fair, so I hope I explained everything properly.
thank you!
Christine

 Hi Christine,
First of all, follow the procedure on the link below to create a bootable CD which you can use to scan your PC and hopefully remove the Malware responsible.  This CD will need to be created on another computer, when done, turn on the non-booting PC, insert the CD and then hold down the power button until it shuts down.  Now press the start button and hopefully the PC will boot from the CD and allow you to scan the computer.

When this has completed, remove the CD and restart to see if the PC will now boot.
Let me know the result of the above process and also what version of Windows you are running ( ie Windows 7 32bit ).
Regards,
DP-K

I cannot get my iTunes library/music from my old computer to my new one. The old computer is so messed up that I cannot even open a browser.I tried to copy to an external hard drive and the music was there until I went to upload to the new computer. I disconnected my old computer so I will have to reconnect it I am sure. thank you for any help. Last time I transferred I used a product I purchased. That was a long time ago.

First of all make sure that you've definitely backed up the movies to your external hard disc.
In iMovie click on any event you don't want, go to the file menu and select 'move event to trash'. Then do the same for any unwanted projects - 'move project to trash'. Quit out of iMovie and empty the trash.
    Hope that helps!

  • Computer hard drive messed up plz HELP!!!

the hard drive on my computer messed up somehow and had to get it replaced, now EVERYTHING from itunes is gone but i still have it on my ipod is there anything i can do to get it back onto my computer???
      Windows XP

Haha I wish I could remember! I'm looking for it right now...
EDIT: It's a checkbox option when you're looking at your iPod summary in iTunes... the very first one. There's no way to check it if your iPod isn't plugged in....
    I would say this:
close itunes and plug in your iPod and un whatever program you were told to use to transfer music back onto your PC. If iTunes opens and begins to update your iPod, I'm sorry, but really, it's the same as not trying.
    Good luck.

  • Computer is totally messed up!! HELP!!!!

Due to a 1 year old mashing my keyboard and mouse, my OS 10.4.11 and iMac G5 has totally gone bonkers. When I log in I cannot see my hard drive icon, cannot log into systems preferences, cannot see the left side navigation when I open a window, cannot do anything. Also, the navigation bar flashes constantly. I tried disk utility but it said that it failed. I cant repair anything and I was wondering if there is anything I can do bar wiping out the whole hard drive and re-installing OS X? I really need answers as I have a lot of files and pics that I need to back up and cannot due to this software mess up.
If there is no hope is there any suggestions on how to back it up to an ext. hard drive?
    Thank you all in advance.

You can try an Archive and Install and see if that restores your machine. And kiss the little darling and keep your computer up high .

  • Can I setup new iPad for someone else from my computer without it messing up my iTunes account?

Would like to know if anyone has done this with success.  My mom wants to mail me her new iPad so I can set it up for her.
    Please advise and thank you.

There is no need for you to use your computer to set up an iPad for your mother. You can do it over the air with WiFi and then you do not have to worry about syncing your content to her device - which I would not recommend anyway.
Why don't you just talk mom through it over the phone. It is a very simple process. Take a look at this. Or if she insists on you setting it up, do it this way.

The gentleman from Philadelphia knows of whence he speaks when it comes to using more than one ID on the iPad but I also recommend that you NOT use your ID on the iPad and this is why.

  • Two iPhones connected to one computer, both are messed up now.

My sister & I both recently bought an iPhone 4S. I already synced my phone to my computer, and in a rush this morning I accidentally clicked 'restore' when I connected my sisters iPhone. All of my information went on her phone, but it's usable. My phone on the other hand still has all of the information but I can't get onto any apps or anything. How can I fix this?

  • My computer's all messed up! Any suggestions?

My macbook keeps reverting back to its default settings and erasing everything but my files. It also won't let me visit this website using safari. It just automatically closes it. So back to the PC for now. Any suggestions will help!

While it very much sounds like the behaviour when someone changes the name of their home directory, the fact that documents are still available means that this is not the case.
So, what I would probably do is the following…
    1) Repair disk permissions in Disk Utility
    2) Failing that I would create a new user account to see if the problem persist
If creating a new user account works then I would transition your documents to the new account and just use that. If it doesn't then you have system wide issues and either an "Archive and install" else an "Erase and install" is recommended.
Regardless, be sure to backup before messing with your system.

  • Computer clock always messed up

My laptop is dual boot: Win 7 Pro 64 and Arch 64. Every time I ran Arch, Windows clock will be messed up (and vice versa).
I already hade HARDWARECLOCK="localtime" in the rc.conf, but that still doesn't work.
    Any idea?

itman wrote:define "messed up". Does the clock run faster or slower or completly stoped?
about 26 minutes slower than it should be
for example: let's say my current time is 11.00 PM (my timezone is Asia/Jakarta), but the date command says:
    Thu Dec 23 22:33:29 WIT 2010
So I corrected the time manually, and tried using NTP.
    It worked.

  • My mini is a paperweight and my computer also got messed up

When I updated my mini, everything was going well. Then it asked me to plug it into the wall charger. This I did; the mini promptly stopped displaying anything. It won't even turn on now.
That upsets me, but what upsets me more is that my computer is also wrecked. I went to try and use my IM after the apple update; it no longer worked, and I had to re-dowload it. Then I tried to burn a CD, which I had done right before the Update as well; I got a message to the effect that the software was "missing". I am now seriously considering reformating my hard drive to reverse the damage that this Apple has caused through this update; I am still, however, dealing with a dead ipod, and if anyone has any advice to offer me (please not just "buy another ipod" because I have already heard that from the Apple Support people), I would be most appreciative.

well...if the ipod is dead, try and getting it repaired, but this is too much of a coincidence... maybe your computer has a virus, and that is why it wrecked,as for the ipod... maby it also go infected with the (possible) virus.

  • My ASUS computer screen is messed up

I need help! My laptop screen has green, black and yellow lines on the lower right corner that seems to be "traveling" horizontally and vertically. I need to get it fixed but don't know what to do. I bought the laptop from Best Buy 1/7/12.
Any idea what's wrong with it? Can my screen be replaced or will I need a whole new laptop?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

It sounds like either the ribbon cable to your display has come loose, or the video card is failing.
In either event, as long a you haven't dropped it, it should be covered by the manufacturer warranty(which expires in 5 days) so take it to your store to have it sent out soon.
If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.
I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] I Messed Up My Computer Really Bad

    Wow.  Where to begin.
I was in my BIOS looking at DRAM timings and Frequencies... noticed that there for DDR500 it had (4:5), which I presume means the RAM runs out-of-sync with the processor.  I tried it out to see what it would do.
Well, my computer wouldn't boot.  And it wouldn't revert back to default BIOS settings which it normally does when I set something in the BIOS that it doesn't like.  And I thought the appropriate course of action in this situation was to reset the CMOS battery.  Evidently it was not the right thing to do, because it screwed everything up royally.
After resetting, I booted up and saw some CoreCell logo which I've NEVER seen before, ever.  Instead of going to the screen which shows the Energy Star logo and lists all my hardware being checked, it goes to a couple lines saying something about Realtek Gigabit Ethernet controller.  It busies itself for a few seconds, then says 'Boot Failed.  Insert Boot Disk and press any Key'.  Uh-oh.
I restart and try to get into my BIOS.  It gives me options of either press F1 to go into Setup or F2 to Load Defaults or some damn thing.  Eventually I get into the BIOS and its blue instead of red, like it always has been.  All my options are obliterated - it doesn't even list any hard drives anywhere.  Evidently it isn't recognizing either of my hard drives.  I go into my motherboard manual and find the section about On-Chip IDE configuration.  I don't even remember what the hell these settings were on before I screwed everything up.   ATA Configuration was on PATA Only, SATA Keep Enabled was set to No.  I don't know why because both of my drives are SATA.
I try setting SATA Keep Enabled to Yes, then reboot.  It boots, and I'm finally here back in Windows.  My system clock was five years off, but my data is here.  It also detected some new Audio Hardware, but i just canceled.
Good god, someone please help me out here.  I'm afraid to even shut off my computer or even mess with anything for fear of not even being able to get back into Windows.

OK, I went into the BIOS and put everything back to how it should be.  A few things were strange though:
The order of the devices in Standard CMOS Features is different then it used to be.  Before, the DVD drive was Primary IDE Master, the CD-RW the Primary IDE Slave, my boot HDD was Third IDE Master and my data HDD Fourth IDE Master.  Now, my boot HDD is Primary IDE Master, data HDD is Secondary IDE Master, DVD Drive is Third IDE Master and CD-RW is Third IDE Slave.
Some of the voltages and frequencies were set to strange values.  I thought the default AGP voltage was 1.5 and DDR voltage default 2.5.  When I went into the BIOS the AGP voltage was 1.7 and the DDR Voltage 2.75.  Before this all happened I had them set at 1.6 and 2.8 respectively.  I changed them to those values and it booted fine.  The 1.7 in particular worried me a little, because I remember reading somewhere that upping AGP voltage too far can do nothing but harm.
Its still a blue screen instead of red.  I know this is trivial, but when the color's different, one tends to think that some setting is different, or the version is different, somehow.  There isn't any background color setting in the BIOS that I know of.
I know I was overreacting a little, but it was too late at night and all I could think of was how I couldn't access the ten-page research paper that's on my hard drive, due in a couple days.

  • Photosmart 5580 will no longer print from my wifes laptop, only from the desktop computer

    Hello,
We have an HP computer with a photosmart 5580.  We also have a lynksis wireless network set up for the home for all of the kids laptops.  My wife and kids used to have the capability to print documents from their laptops.  I am not sure if it was going through the wireless network or the bluetooth technology on the laptops.  Recently we have run into the problem that they are no longer able to print from their laptops and even from the desktop we have not been able to print.  I have had to reinstall the printer onto the desktop 2 times to make the printer work.  But then a week or 2 later the computer stops recognizing the printer and I will have to reinstall it.  The desktop is only 2 years old but it is barely used since everyone has a laptop.  Also a friend of ours says that by doing a disk defrag on the computer that it messes up anything that we have connected to the computer.  I strongly disagree with that statement and like I told my wife, if that were the case then the printer would have stopped working last year, but she takes this friends advice seriously and told me to stop the defrags completely.
I am thinking that it may be something in the registry that is causing this problem.  Am I headed in the right direction or does anyone else have a different idea to correct this problem?
    Thanks

Well, I think the problem is that the printer is getting a different IP address from the router periodically and the printer software cannot keep track of the printer.
The best way to fix this is to reserve an IP address for the printer so that it has the same IP address all the time.  Do you need help doing this?
Unless I am missing something, this system is not using Bluetooth, but the Linksys 802.11 wireless system and defragging your hard drive has nothing to do with it (and is generally a waste of time, anyway).
