My Computer is nuts! HP Pavilion dv2500 CTO, vista

I have had this computer for a year now, and literally there days after the default warranty expired I have had nothing but trouble from it.
Random types of blue screens, shutdowns, reformats, factory default settings, virus scans, the works.
Most of the issues get ironed out magically over time for some reason that makes no sense to me.  I am a computer science major, I can fix everyone elses computer but mine it seems. The errors, and reasons are beyond myreasoning, and honestly baffle me.
I am lead to beleive that these problems are hardware related since recently when i tried to reformat, it took six or seven tries with the windows discs for it actually to format correctly.
After battling it for three days i get it up and running.  It bluescreens when it overheats (i have deduced this as the reason, but unfounded) The videocard randomly decides to restart itself sometimes causing my games to lose fullscreen and stop working (XXX game has stopped working dialogue).
My network card works properly but sometimes decides to drop the signal randomly until i manually tell it to fix the problem, and then it works again (this problem has been mostly fixed, and blame is put on the router being aged)
Something is wrong with windows explorer too. It randomly stops working and reboots, killing most apps that are open.
Even firefox, firefox, my beloved firefox that would never turn its back on me, crashes all the time now for no reason (I am lead to beleive that it has soemthing to do with Adobe)
But most of all and the reason i come to the forums for help. What could be worse than random blue screens, a non booting computer, data loss, and unworking reformats? Let me tell you.
I was surfing the web about an hour ago, and my videocard decides to flicker again, and the screen goes black for a second and then comes back.
This time though it doesnt come back normal.
Ever messed with the alternate settings on setting a windows background? I am talking about windows XP for the moment, you can set the background/wallpaper to be "centered" or "tiled" or "stretched". Tile seems to look funny because usually you end up with 3 sets of the image, just like a tile.
back on point, now my laptop's screen looks like a tiled background. I have six start bars, six backgrounds, six instances of windows, six sets of whichever window i pop up, six sidebars, etc. Actually 6 and a half if you count the ones cut off on the bottom.  When i move the mouse all six move. Its literally like having 6 tiny monitors displaying the same thing. Only this is a laptop, i wasnt doing any system maintenance at the time, and the display settings regarding the six monitors are very blurry/bad resolution/bad color scheme.
Honestly guys i have no clue. I have shut ti down restarted it, pulled out the battery let it clear the volitle ram. I have no idea. I tried installing the driver which worked but didnt change a thing.
Is it dead?  Can a motherboard be broken but still run the computer? Faulty ram? the computer runs fine the display is jsut not working???
I know i mentioned alot of issues but mainly the thing that is killing me is the fact that now the display is severely skewed.
What do i do!
thanks

I have the same problem(when I turn on my laptop I see 6 screens while booting) but my windows vista wont start up and it hangs. Somebody help me...

  • My HP Pavilion dv2500 series computer (dv2845se). Computer won't come on -Case Manager contact me

I have a HP Pavilion dv2500 series laptop (dv2845se). Pushed power button to use and computer would not turn on at all under battery or ac power. I would like to speak to a case manager about this.

You cannot get to a Case Manager through this Forum. We are peer users (consumers) like you. That model series has known defects in the motherboard. Of course, it is now at least 4 years old and long out of warranty. HP will fix it for you but it will cost $300-400. There are many services on the internet and ebay that will do a good job repairing the faulty chip on the motherboard for around $100 or less. Personally, if it is possible financially I would get another laptop if I were you. Even with a repair the unit is inherently unreliable. You are lucky to have gotten as long a life out of it as you have.

  • HP Pavilion dv6700 CTO Notebook PC and I hook to HDMI cable and connect to tv and get no sound

i have a HP Pavilion dv6700 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC and I hook to HDMI cable and connect to tv and get no sound when attached to tv.  I attach the cable get the video but no sound.  I check sound and do not see anything other than the altec lansing speckers and realtek.  Th altec lansings are the default.  Help

    Hello gman0700.
Welcome to the HP Forums. I understand you are unable to produce audio through an HDMI connection. I apologize for the late response, but I will do my best to assist you. Before anything else, please answer these questions:
    1. What is the current computer's operating system? Does the same behaviour occur on multiple operating systems?
    2. The title seems to imply that there is no audio when connected to a television, using HDMI. Does this only occur when you connect to a television? Will it occur if you connect to something else using HDMI?
    3. Have you tried connecting to a television using VGA or DVI? If so, what are the results?
As an additional suggestion, for now, I would review the television's manual to confirm that everything is correct from the television's standpoint.
Please post this information as soon as you can. Thank you posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • HP Pavilion DV2500 won't turn on

I'm posting this out of desperation, hoping that someone out there can offer some advice. My wife's HP Pavilion DV2500 won't turn on. When I press the power button, the blue "power LED" comes on (as do the blue lights under the DVD controls and the "harddisk LED" flashes once... the computer fan whirrs into action, but then nothing happens. The screen is always black, nothing appears on the screen. I've tried removing the battery and holding the power button for 60 seconds. I've tried turning it on with the power cord and battery both in, just the power cord no battery, just the battery no power cord, etc. It doesn't make any difference - doesn't power on with any of those configurations. I've also tried unscrewing the panel on the bottom and removing one RAM chip, leaving the other in. Then putting it back and removing the other. Then removing them both. Again, it doesn't make any difference - doesn't power on with any of those configurations. (FYI, the blue light around the AC adapter does light up blue when the AC adapter is plugged in... so that's not the problem) Any tips? The computer is out of warranty, and I'm living in France. It's nearly three years old, so it's probably not worth the labor costs of taking it to a service center. I'm happy to open it up and try to fix it myself - unless it involves a soldering iron! Please... any advice much appreciated.... thank you!!

I hadn't used my my DV2500 for about a week. Last night I switched it on no problem downloaded and installed the MS updates ok.About 15 mins later the machine switched off with no warning, and it was connected to the mains, so no power issues.I started the machine up again which started loading Windows Vista Home Premium. during startup it switched off again.I started machine again and message stated Windows Start up repair recommended which I proceeded to do, another message appeared stating that Windows needed to be repaired, so I bit the bullet and decided to reinstal the o/s from the factory image. The machine loaded the Windows files and started to format error message appeared stating corrupt windows file and that I should load the recovery disc which I did. I rebooted the machine from the disc, started to format again and the machine switched off again. All that happens now when I switch on are the blue lights come on. I cannot access the bios or anything, it will not boot up from the disc, just pretty blue lights!I now have a machine that has no o/s pretty blue lights and a blank black screen. From reading the other posts it seems like a motherboard problem.Ideas anyone? p/n  KC453UA#ABA

  • Upgrade for HP Pavilion HDX9300 CTO Notebook PC

    Good morning people!
I have one HP Pavilion HDX9300 CTO Notebook PC and have some questions:
I am wanting to upgrade my HD drive for a SSD model and increase my DDR memory.
I know my memory operates at a frequency of 667 MHz but need to know if my notebook includes an upgrade to 8GB and what would be the ideal brand of memory card to do this.
I also need models of HD 480GB SSD compatible with my notebook.
Thank you all and sorry for english, I'm brazilian.

I checked out you service manual and it says the maximum amount of memory it can take is 4 GB or two 2 GB sticks.
I also went to Crucial and there memory advisor does confirm this.
     http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01279508.pdf
     http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Pavilion%20HDX9300%20CTO&Cat=RAM
Crucial also gives you a bunch of different options for an SSD as well. It says that the 512 GB SSD will work, but it is expensive. Stick with a quality brand name like Crucial or Kingston. Avoid buying from e-bay.
When it comes to memory though just because the manual says the max is 4 GB does not mean that it can take more.
You can try installing two 4 GB sticks and it may work, it won't hurt the laptop to try, but there is no guarantee that it will work.
Keep in mind too that if you're running a 32 bit operating system it won't recognise a little more then 3 GB of memory anyway.

  • USB 3.0 Upgrade for HP Pavilion dv9700 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC

Is it possible to upgrade my HP Pavilion dv9700 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC to USB 3.0?  I've been searching the website and google and haven't found any concrete answers just yet.  I'd rather not have to buy a new laptop just to get USB 3.0.  It's been the most reliable pc I've ever had and I don't wantn to replace it!
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi,
You have to buy a new laptop or swap the system/motherboard or buy an Express card - USB 3 (I've got one) or PC card - USB 3. For desktop , this is much simpler, a PCI - USB 3 card will do.
    Regards.

    Hi
its up to you.. you can first install your drivers of your OS then install whatever software you want to install..
if you will install your drives for hardware some of the software will not create any issue to install..
    Hope it helps!

    Good Morning!!
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a terrific place to find answers.
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
I grasp that you are running multiple OSs.  It was running normal but suddenly you got a black or blank screen.  You reinstalled the OS and  the display only showed 1/3 of the upper side of the image but  then  went  blank.
If you disable the VGA card driver it then starts.
Have you checked for updated drivers and or a bios update?  HP Pavilion Notebook PC dv9200 drivers
I do not see Windows 7 listed as a supported OS, therefore HP has not provided drivers.
Downloading or Updating Software and Drivers for HP Computers
Here is a link to Monitor / video / graphics
As you stated the display works when you disable the VGA, I would start with Resolution of video graphic issues from the previous link.
Here is a link to HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI method of use.
If you select the component test you should be able to test the graphics.
If you think it may be the display itself, have you tried connecting an external monitor?
    I hope this helps.

  • Hp pavilion dv2500 laptop does not start -Pls help.

    Hi,
I have HP Pavilion dv2500 laptop which I bought from US(before 3 years) and using in India.
It has Windows Vista installed on it.
It has been very frequent that the laptop does not start. Today my laptop started after 10 days or so.
It does not give any error when I press the start button. There is no change in the screen as well.
The CPU light blinks. The power light also blinks. But the HARD DISK light does NOT blink.
If I keep on hitting Escape/F10 key then sometime it may start.
Before two months my battery was giving some problems and it used to finish very early. So I had to always plugin power chord to use laptop. Then I started getting above problem. However I bought new battery. But then also the laptop start problem exists.
I called one of the guy and he says that I need to replace the motherboard which could cost around 8000 / 9000 INR(160/180USD)
Is it hardware problem? I am not sure if it's some other problem.
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Purvesh

    Try my hard reset method.
    1) Remove the battery and unplug the DC power adapter.
    2) Press and hold the power button for more than fifteen seconds.
    3) Plug in the DC power adapter (leave the battery out for now)
    4) Press the power button
Please post your positive or negative results here in your thread.

  • I am trying to install a hp officejet 4215 all in one on a HP Pavilion slimline with Vista

I am trying to install a hp officejet 4215 all in one on a HP  Pavilion slimline with Vista, I log in under myself and  I am an administrator, When I run the cd to install it shows that I need to be logged in as administrator, any help out there ?

I am not sure why the HP software needs to recognize your airport. That's a function of the OS. Can you be more specific about the problem you are having? Do you have some screen shots? Is the Macbook connected to the router?
If the HP printer can't recognized the router, that's a different story. You'll need to plug the Macbook into the printer (by cable) to config it (that's typical). You may need to assigne the printer its own static IP address (which I would advise doing anyway). That way you can always find it and it will make setting up network printers on other computers a bit easier.
