My Computer is stuck on the login screen!!!!!  HELP!

i help down command+v during startup to see what was going on, and i get stuck on this command:
Jan 20 20:22:27 KYII com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.mDNSResponder[19]): posix_spawnp("/usr/sbin/mDNSResponder", ...): No such file or directory.
My computer was working fine and i shut it down, and then this occured when trying to start it up. hoping someone can tell me whats wrong. Thanks a lot, Kevin

im getting this same error on my old PB G4!
i did a new install of 10.5, then combo update to 10.5.6 and software update, so far all worked.
then i set up sharing and some sys pref params. after shutdown i cannot restart and get the above error (in single user or verbose mode)
the HD does not show any errors with diskutility, i did a PRAM reset. i erased the HD completely, reinstalled the OS, but the same error happens: spinning wheel and mDNSResponder file not found.....
any hint is appreciated

My MacBook Air is stuck on the login screen, each time I enter the password it stops (but does reject an incorrect password)

    Restore OS X.
If your Mac has v10.7, v10.8, or v10.9 installed, startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can restore OS X using OS X Recovery
For OS X prior to v10.7, boot from your install disc while holding down the C key.

  • Macbook Pro stuck at the login screen

This morning I dropped my laptop by catching the charging cable the laptop fell on the floor but everything seemed to be normal.
I then decided to back up straight away so I started time machine. I stupidly started doing some user instensive things on my mac whilst this was going on e.g. playing a game which can sometimes crash. When it did crash I left it for half an hour or so to see if it would bring up force quit or switch out of the crashed programme. This didn't happen so, like i've done in the past, I hard reset holding down the power button.
When I turned on the mac everything seemed normal I got to the login screen and it offered to startup the computer as it was before I restarted. This was a bit odd as I normally get this message when i've actually logged in. My Backup drive also asked for a password which was also strange for the same reason. I then attempted to login to the computer I typed my password in. It was accepted and the screen went white and then went back to the login screen.
I repeated this a few times, restarting etc before I tried using disk utility in recovery mode. When verifying the disk no problems were found. Disk permissions found two problems, which unfortunately I can't remember (1 was to do with the library), I then repaired disk permissions. I tried to start again but got the same problem.
I then stared in safe mode. I'm now meant to be in safe mode but i'm not 100% sure as everything seems the same except everythign is very slow.
Midbackup my computer crashed so i'm wondering if there are any problems there (especially as it was the first backup I made on my new external HD). I'm now trying to backup in safemode but i'm not sure if that's the best thing to do (as not everything might not copy over and I could potentially ruin the first backup to my new external HD). Can anyone give me any advice on what to do next, tell me where I can test whether i'm in safe mode or not and let me know if I should be backing up in safemode.
    Thanks in advance

    UPDATE
After entering successfully what appeared to be safe mode, I restared the computer and tried logging in normally. I got the white screen (as normal) before I reached the login screen, and after entering my password it eventually did log me in. Everything seems normal but I still want to be sure. My computer seems very slow. I only have 1.25GB/4GB free of RAM and I only have two safari tabs open. I'm backing up now but i'm still a bit concerned.

there is no installation cd, i have hit the command r function and attempted to reinstall from the recovery option stored on the computer. I am connected to the internet. It keeps saying downloading extra components and then once completed just goes b ack to main screen with my old log in informaiton as if nothing has happened. I also attempted to try to do a back up from a restore log and nothing on that as well.

  • After 10.5.2 install stuck at the login screen.  Help please!

    Hi all,
After installing 10.5.2 my computer rebooted to the login screen, but no matter what account I select (I have 3) it goes to a blue screen for a few seconds and then right back to the login screen. I've tried booting in safe mode and also resetting the PRAM. I've been reading this forum, but don't seem to see anyone else having this same exact problems.
    Any suggestions?

I have had problems after the 10.5.2 update. I ended up with a frozen computer - unable to restart or shut down etc. Also ended up at one stage with Set Up Assistant screen. With the help of a computer savvy friend, at least I am able to use my computer again.
It appears the actual download did happen but it did not install and the computer tells me I need to "re-start". When I did this, window appeared on plain blue screen saying it was installing software but absolutely nothing happened - no blue scrolling bar etc.
My iMac computer is still under Apple Care Plan and technician told me they are many problems surfacing across the various machines with this upgrade. He has asked me to delay updating the software and to ring back in a couple of days because their technicians are currently working on the problem and he hopes for an answer soon.

  • Polycom CX500 stuck on the login screen !

    Hello ladies and gentlemen :)
Recently bought a Polycom CX500 and I literally want to commit a suicide because of this phone ! Can someone help me or guide me how I can bypass the lync setup or tell me how to access the menu of this phone ?
My problem is that I don't have a lync account and when the phone boots up it asks for an extension or phone number -> then the PIN number !
Any other ways to login or skip this step ! The phone is currently running on firmware version 4.0.7577.4372.
I just want to enter the phone menu and check its parameters and what can be done, but since I can't actually get into the phone, don't really know how to deal with that.
Thanks for your time and help.

    Hello Dementor H
the CX500 unlike the CX600 and CX3000 do not have a USB port to bypass the LYNC PIN and Extension login method.
You will require to setup a DHCP server to provide Option 43, 120 and the NTP server.
Without that the phone cannot sign into LYNC. If you do not have an on premise LYNC server providing this the phone cannot be used. There is no Menu where you could add any details once the phone has signed in.

  • Can't get past the login screen - Login fails [SOLVED]

    Dear Arch community,
I have just installed xfce4. To make it perfect, I've installed slim and added it to the daemons. It works flawlessly...unfortunately I am not able to login. It does not seem to recognize my user name and/or password. After going back to the prompt (strg+alt+F5), I am able to login. Also: If I log in and try to go back with srtg+alt+F7 I am stuck at the login screen again.
    The problem:
Slim is not able to access user and password - How do I get it to do so?
On the other hand...from my point of view it could be anything.
    Any help is very appreciated.

all I've got in it is:
    exec xfce4-session
I guess that is a bit too less.
Actually according to the wiki it should be just
    exec startxfce4
when using slim.  Have you made your .xinitrc executable?
    chmod +x ~/.xinitrc

  • Stuck on the splash screen

    Hi,
I have looked through many websites in search for the answer to my HP Pavilion Slimline s3624uk desktop problem with no joy.
The problem is that the computer is stuck on the splash screen. I have tried and tested working USB and PS/2 keyboard and mouse, RAM and processor I know that these devices work by testing them on a different PC.  I have removed hard-drive which loads fine again in a different PC. I have tried to reset Bios / CMOS by placing the jumper on pins 2 and 3. I have also removed CMOS battery and all power to motherboard for a period of two hours. I then reconnected all with the same result stuck on the splash screen.
I can’t enter into BIOS. I have tried pressing Esc repeatedly as well as F9, F10 and F11 etc.
    Please help...

  • When I restart my computer instead of the gray screen that is supposed to appear before the login screen it shows a screen with a lot of letter

I upgrade my ssd for my macbook pro retina from the 256 to 480 GB but when I tunr it on or restarted the computer the gray screen that is suppost to apper dosent show insted a screen with lettler show before the login screen besides that the computer works fine.

I cannot decipher what is written on the images you have posted but they are reminiscent of what I have seen when a MBP is dealing with some totally incompatible software or perhaps in your case hardware.
How and or who installed the larger SSD and what manufacture is it.  I suspect that is the problem.
    Ciao.

  • I tried to eject a cd, didn't work so I turned off the computer and now it keeps getting stuck at the gray screen. How do I fix it?

Here are a few more details. I put in a game cd for a windows computer, once I opened the folder on the desktop I noticed the install application was .exe so I tried to eject the cd but no matter what I tried on the computer it wouldn't come out. I will say though that I didn't try the manual cd eject cause I didn't have anything small to hit the button in the cd drive with. It was getting late so we decided to just turn off the computer and leave it for the next day. I can't remember if we turned the computer off with apple shut down or by holding down the power button but we walked away pretty quickly before it was fully shut down. The next day the computer won't turn on. When I walked into the room I was the computer stuck with a grey background with the apple logo showing and the circular thing under it frozen. Since no one was in the room I held down the power button and turned the computer off. We tried to start the computer again later but again it keeps getting stuck at the same spot. Now when we hold the power button down to turn it off I'm not sure if it's really turning off all the way. The screen goes dark but it sounds like the fan is still going. I tried disconnecting everything but the keyboard and mouse but when I started it up again it got stuck on the grey screen with just the apple logo. I'd really apprechiate help on this cause I live in Germany right now and support call centers work so much worse when you don't speak the language well... Thanks for any help you can give!

Restart your computer while holding down left mouse key. That will eject the CD and your Mac will start as normal.
