HAMitch,
your EtreCheck report will not reveal why your MacBook Pro shuts down randomly. What this report does reveal is that you have out-of-date versions of Java and Silverlight installed. The latest version of Java (7, Update 55) can be downloaded from here, and the latest version of Silverlight (5.1.30317.0) can be downloaded from here.
Without knowing some example situations in which your MacBook Pro randomly shuts down, it will be difficult to diagnose the problem. Would you provide some examples during which it has shut down? That is, which programs are running when it happens? How long has it been booted up when it happens? &c.
In the interim, after updating Java and Silverlight, you can try running your MacBook Pro’s Apple Hardware Test, to see if it can detect any hardware problems.

My iphone keeps shutting down randomly. 3-7 times a day. Ever since I installed IO7. How do I fix or reinstall IO6?

    Hey Kaylyn07,
Thanks for the question. The following article may help in troubleshooting Kernal Panic’s for OS X:
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4636
In most cases, kernel panics are not caused by an issue with the Mac itself. They are usually caused by software that was installed, or a problem with connected hardware.
To help avoid kernel panics, install all available software updates until Software Update reports, "Your software is up to date." OS X updates help your Mac handle the kinds of issues that can cause kernel panics, such as malformed network packets, or third party software issues. For most kernel panics, updating your software is all you have to do.
Diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you need help with this process, consider bringing your Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.  If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, you can make a reservation (available in some countries only).
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. the same thing happens when just trying to save my pictures from iphoto to a flash drive. suggestions to complete backup please?

Sounds like you'll need to access that drive while it is not booted. You need to replace it anyway, so do that, then one way or another (ext enclusure, et), access it and copy files.
If you keep trying to boot it, you might kill it for good and not get your files, so just swap it out first.

  • Internet keeps shutting down randomly

Just got my Mac Mini and love it so far, but my internet keeps shutting down randomly and restarting itself. Is there a lack of memory being used for it and is there a way to change it? If so, how much should I allow it to use?

I'm on a LAN line, no router, the School is the ISP... Haven't had this problem on my PC. I did it about 2 times in a row, but hasn't done it since.

  • My computer keeps shutting down and I don't know what to do.

I purchased the student/ teacher version of the cloud membership/ design suite for os x and promptly began downloading the programs that I would use onto my macbook pro. I downloaded photoshop cs6, Bridge, Illustrator, and Acrabat. I havn't used anything but photoshop so far but I have encountered a serious problem. When I first got photoshop I would leave the application open by accedent and my computer started shutting down randomly but only about once a day. As I started using photoshop more I started closing the application when I wasn't using it but when I was the computer would shut down at some point during each project. I could deal with saving a lot as I go but now it shuts emediately every time so I can't use photoshop at all. Please can someone give me some advice, even if it is just to go to the apple store.

I had very similar behaviour occur when I purchased my first MacBrook Pro and it turned out to be a faulty Graphics Card.  Take it to the Genius Bar and see what they have to say.  If they don't know what's going and it's not a hardware issue, then we need to know a lot more to help you.  Please provide answers to the questions listed here: "FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?"

My computer keeps shutting down when I try turn it on

Sounds like you may have hard drive issues.
You can try using built in diagnostics if you have them by holding D on startup.  If nothing special happens, your model does not have them.  You can then try to boot to recovery by holding Option while starting up and selecting Recovery HD.  (Run Disk Utility Repair)  If no Recovery HD appears, then you have a bad hard drive or an older OS than supports it.
If neither of those works I'd take it to an Apple store or Authorized Apple Service Provider near you for a diagnostic test.  Apple will do it for free, so it's preferred for a test, but may not be the best price for a simple hard drive replacement.  Head over to locate.apple.com to find the nearest AASPs and Apple Stores and set up an appointment.

  • My computer keeps shutting down.

My computer keeps shutting down. It just goes black. To turn it back on, I have to wait a few minutes before pressing the button. When it comes back on, it seems to take longer than usual. It seems more likely to do this when I have several programs running at once. There might be a flickering light on the lower right side.
    It's a desktop computer.
    Any guesses?

I had a similar, but different problem. My iMac running OS 10.5.6 wouldn't start up all the way. I would get the Apple logo and the spike gear on the grey screen, and after a while the computer would go off (black screen). I started from the install disk and got horrifying red messages that disk utility couldn't fix it. AIEEEEE! I bought Disk Warrior, and fearfully rebuilt the disk directory. Problem solved.
Strangely, neither my Apple store nor a large electronics store carried Disk Warrior. Nobody at the stores knew why, although they said they had lots of inquiries about it. Third try I found DW version 4.1.1. Problem solved.

  • My computer just shuts down randomly

Does anyone know why my computer would just shut down randomly? I have know idea. I ran Disk Utilities, Tech Tool and Norton and found nothing wrong. Do I need to reinstall my system again? Any help would be great.

Have a look at the logs with the Console app, located in /Applications/Utilities. Look specifically at system.log and see if there are any entries in there around the time that the computer shuts down. Look for entries with "shutdown" in them.
Oh, and what Norton product do you have? They're notorious for causing more problems than they solve.

  • Macbook keeps shutting down randomly

I've had my Macbook for about 9 months with no problems but it has suddenly started to shut down randomly. I have looked at lots of support advice on this site but nothing has worked. I have the latest firmware and battery update patches. Following advice on this forum, I thought it was down to recently installed widgets that might me using too much CPU so I binned them to no avail. It also isn't the temperature, when it last died that was at 49c, so well below danger level! From what I can ascertain, it isn't kernal panic either, and no panic logs have been stored. I haven't had any error messages. I have looked at the console and system logs, but they don't mean much to me.
    Here's what happens:
Completely randomly, regardless of what applications I have open or with no external decives attached, my mac switches off, or almost. The start up "ching" sounds, then the screen flickers on and off while the light at the front does the same, it also makes the start-up sound a few times as if it's trying to restart. It doesn't close down completely but won't come back up again. When it first started doing this, I could force it to shut down then reboot it, but just now the only way I could get it to do this was to remove all power: take out the battery and remove the power-in cable then replace the cable and reboot. It still does this with the battery removed completely, so it's not the battery causing this. I've also tried holding down the on/off button until it makes that long tone sound just to see if it would start up before removing all power, but it didn't!
Help! I've tried everything I can think of and the apple store is closed in the UK!

Ummm, nope. All due respects, this problem cropped up suddenly, at about the same time, for multiple users, on different laptop types. Probability of all this happening at once due to simultaneous hardware failures is much lower than if it was caused by say a software update not playing well with something (a piece of 3rd party software, etc). I'm having the same exact problem, I have put a new battery in, same thing happens.
This is similar to 3 or so years ago when widgets were first introduced, laptop battey lifes dropped to about 1/3 and the machines heated up. General consensus was it must be hardware, well no it was software, and a software fix took care of it. I'm hoping someone figures this out soon...
    Thanks

  • Computer keeps shutting down

I've had my G5 for about five years now and have had a few other issues with it, but most of them were very easy to fix.
Unfortunately it has recently begun to shut down five minutes after it's turned on, which has never happened to me before. I use this computer for work, and I'm not really in a position to spend a lot of money to get it fixed right now.
Is there any way that I can figure out what's wrong with it? The CD drive has been broken for awhile and just spits them back out, so I am unable to un-install/re-install anything that way.

It's almost certainly not a software problem. Possibly a thermal shutdown from overheating, so definitely start by cleaning the vents, but this is not likely. Usual cause is bad, bulging or leaking capacitors on the Logic Board or the power supply. Unfortunately, a very common issue on these models (mostly non-iSight.) You will find almost every other post here may involve this problem.
Remove the rear cover by loosening the three captive screws; only loosen them enough to free the cover. Inspect the caps on the board; they look like little soda cans. Make sure the tops are perfectly flat, nothing leaking. You won't be able to peek inside the power supply easily.
If you find you have this problem and if you search this forum, you will find many threads with recommendations about how to proceed.

  • Macbook Pro keeps shutting down randomly

    Hello-
My 15" Macbook Pro (Late 2011) has started unexpectedly and randomly shutting down. I recently installed Mountain Lion and it started after that, and only seems to happen when running on battery power. I've tried an SMC reset multiple times and that doesn't seem to help. I'm running a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB of RAM, updated to 10.8.2.
Based on my battery report, I don't think that's the issue:

Yes and do not be dissappointed if AHT http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509 shows no errors- incomplete test at best.

  • Computer keeps shutting down after installing yosemite

my laptop started randomly shutting down with an error after i installed yosemite does anyone have any suggestions?

The next time the problem happens, note the date and time the problem occurred, then go to Applications/Utilities/Console and copy the log starting at the time of the crash. Paste the log in a reply. Please do not use a screen shot as they can be hard to read. If there are repeated runs of the same messages, please post only one run. Be selective about what you post and don’t  post huge amounts. Make sure there is no personal data visible. Information learned from Linc Davis.

  • Computer keeps shutting down when trying to update Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2! But says I have installed it 4 times already.

    Hello All,
Today I updated my MacBook Pro Early 2011 from Lion to Mavericks. I then went onto my App Store and it says I have an update that I need to install. This update is the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2. Everytime I press update, it says that it is downloading, but suddenly my computer just turns off with no warning when the download hasnt even started. I'm worried that this will damage my computer! What I don't understand is that App Store says that I have already installed this update 4 times. But if so, why is it still saying that I need to update it?
Any help will be most appreciated!
    Celine

Unfortunately after that I have no other suggestions... if it was my computer I would reformat the entire computer but you need a good backup to do that something is obviously corrupt and not acting right otherwise if you have another computer that you can use to update..
