My computer keeps shutting itself down

at around 2:40AM this mourning my computer shut itself down again
this has happend several times
i had it running minimal power management  800mhz and all that
i have a 650watt power supply was cheap should still work dont really wanna open my case for the numbers, anyways it just sits there blinking the power light as if the power shut off on me or i tripped a breaker but my UPS wasnt goin off
i have corsair ram that doesnt have a problem with my system it was corsair value select pc3200
5 hard drives currently in the system
7 fans
my signature will tell the rest, anyone have a clue what could be goin on

Random reboots are often indicators of memory instability.  I don't think overheating or power supply failure are to blame (although you should post the current over your PSU rails in your signature ... look on the side of your PSU).  However, due to the fact that you're running PC2700 RAM (DDR400 RAM often causes more instability than slower variants, such as your DDR333) you should perform some tests before we can be sure the RAM is to blame.
First, run Prime95's blend test.  Download the program, run it, then goto Advanced->Password and enter "9876" (without the quotes).  Then goto Advanced->Priority, and set it to 10.  Now select Options->Torture Test and select the "Blend" option.  Run the program uninterrupted and observe the results.  If your memory is unstable, it should result in an error within minutes (~10 minutes), although you could run it for longer if you feel so inclined.
Another memory check (which checks for physical errors in the RAM itself) is Memtest86.  You must create a bootable CD or floppy and then boot into the program in order to scan your memory.  It may seem like a pain, but in-Windows memory checks often report false positives because of background Operating System components messing with their processes.  Memtest used to have issues with 64 bit boards, but apparently that issue has been resolved.
If you find out that it is your memory that is causing your reboots, there are many steps you can take to eliminate the instability.

  • IPhone keeps shutting itself down

I just updated my iPhone 4S to 6.0.1 . and ever since I have had this problem that my iPhone keeps shutting itself down and I have to hold the power and home button at the same time for it to be turned on. this happens 4 or 5 times a day. I'm really sick of it 'cause my alarms and my reminders don't beep when the iPhone is off. please help me. I want my Almighty iPhone back.

    Hey there Legs8,
It sounds like your phone is repeatedly shutting down unexpectedly on you daily.  I recommend these troubleshoting steps from the article named:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

Try a reset first: Press and hold both Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.
If the reset doesn't fix it, try a restore:

  • My Macbook Air keeps shutting itself down at night

Just to be clear, I'm not very computer savy...
I bought the 2013 Macbook Air recently, and it keeps shutting down at night. When I wake up in the morning and open my computer, I sign in and it says "Your Macbook was shut down because of a problem" or something along those lines, and then gives me the option of sending a report. Is anyone suffering with the same problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your response. The thing is I have never drained my macbook battery. As a matter of fact, I usually close my laptop before I go to sleep with well more than fifty percent battery left . As for the second possible cause you mentioned, could you explain that more? Are you saying my mba came with a battery with a shorter life?

  • Mac keeps shutting itself down repeatedly then restarting with a ridiculous date?

ive never posted here on the forums so I apologise in advance
basically I have a 15" MacBook Pro for about two years now.
    i think this is important?:
    OS X
    version 10.9.4
    2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    anyway
long story short everything just went downhill when i upgraded to Mavericks I think it's called. Wooooooooow my mac went slower.
Just recently now In the past month my mac started to and still is) randomly, and I mean completely randomly, turning itself off completely then restarting with the chimes and everything. The worst part is the fact that it changes my macs date to 2001 alwaaaaays.
i suppose their may be a few reasons why:
my macs charger chord thingy has a rip of the rubber surrounding it so one inch of my wire is the silvery wirey chord thingy. I put that special electrical coverage tape over that though.
my Mac is usually never turned off. I always have an ongoing project or I'm doing homework so I just lock my mac and let it sleep until next use. Shutting it down is too much effort.
My mac mac has had about 419 cycles for the battery if that helps
no it's not anything with my CPU I rarely have more than 4 apps open and my fans dont overheat
My mac also has a lot of files but not THATTTT much. Most are photos and music. yes I will be purchasing an external hardrive to transfer everything soon. But even before mavericks my mac was pretty fast.
basically I'm not good with technical talk so again I apologise but yeah I've looked at so many different possibilities I.e- ****** battery, charger, too many files, fans overheating etc. One is right probably but it'd be nice to know which one.
    cheers x

  • My Mac Mini keeps shutting itself down; why?

    Hello,
When I woke up this morning, I went to use my new Mac Mini. For some reason, it will appear on the monitor for about five seconds, and then nothing will show on the monitor at all. Attempting to restart the Mac Mini only finds it doing the same thing. I am wondering why?
    T.

The very first computer I ever had was an 8086; it came with a 5 1/4 in drive and little else. One of the floppies it came with had? Windows 1.0. The thing had precious little memory, no hard drive, and if you ever wanted to do anything with it you had better be addicted to coffee.
The printer I had literally cranked; it was the loudest thing I have ever heard and it made the stand I had it on rock and sway back and forth. When the 8088 came it out was like, 'Ooooo!' And when the first 286 came out? Yikes - it was like a revolution or something. The 486 I had was something I kept for years; I actually wrote a number of college papers on these computers.
When Windows 3.0 was released it was heaven sent or something - it was as if color had finally emerged into the world, as well as an operating system you could actually do something with. At about the same time, I remember my father using a little Mac with a tiny, tiny little screen that went, 'Eeep!' whenever he messed up something.
The tiny screen on that Mac is what kept me leaning towards Windows. My thought at the time was, 'My God - how will I ever be able to see to write papers on that tiny screen?' Now I look back on those days and wonder about how differently things may have gone if I had chosen to use Mac computers.
Oh well. I am enjoying the heck out of this Mac Mini; I only wish I could afford the Mac laptop I want too.
Thanks for the reply, it's not often I run into someone who even knows what an 8088 is.
    Tom.

  • BRAND NEW i27 KEEPS SHUTTING ITSELF OFF

Just bought the latest and apparently greatest in iMac desktop computers and I am getting frustrated cause the bloody thing keeps shutting itself down.
It is the i27 with 16gb ram, the i7 3.4 quad core with 768gig Flash and the graphics upgrade to 2gig g-force gtx 680. We didnt mess around with "should we"
It will be fine when using it but when you walk away from it, the screen saver comes on and it eventually goes to sleep. Now this is pi55ing my wife off no end as she uses automatic programs on farmville etc. Even when its running, it still opts for Screen saver, and sleep. When she wakes it up, low and behold she logs in and her automatic programs have stopped and I get the old "come and fix this stupid thing"
I have turned off every automatic shutdown and screensaver option I can find.
    Now
I am starting to get pi55ed off.
    Anyone got any sugegstions?

So you've gone to system prefences, energy settings, and moved the computer sleep slider to never but it still goes to sleep?
You can open terminal and type pmset -g to verify your sleep setting is 0 and not a number like 15 or 30...
You can also download the app caffine from the Mac App Store.  Install it and you'll get a coffee cup on the upper task bar.  Click it and your iMac will never sleep for sure.

  • PS4 keeps powering itself down

Hi...hope you can help me, my ps4 keep shutting itself down, it can be after 5 mintues or 5 hours it doesnt really got any pattern.the only patters is that it beeping one and after 2-3 seconds it beep again and then it shut itself down.any one know what it is and how to fix it??please help...thank you =]

Yeah. Got the update done earlier without any issue. Just started now after I took a break to get things done. I'll try to the initialize option after I get my hands on another power cable. Hoping it might just be that being faulty for whatever reason. Just going to leave it unplugged for now though and hope it's the heat today making it act like it is. But I am guessing you're right. I actually got a good look at how it turned off after doing the rebuild database; it looked like the whole thing was suddenly cut off in power, rather than powering down like I first thought. Thanks for your help. Edit: PS4 is now working fine apparently. I booted it up to try and quickly do some saves to a USB, and it's not shut down for over an hour now. Looks like your initial suggestion worked.

  • I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. suggestions to complete backup please?

I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. the same thing happens when just trying to save my pictures from iphoto to a flash drive. suggestions to complete backup please?

Sounds like you'll need to access that drive while it is not booted. You need to replace it anyway, so do that, then one way or another (ext enclusure, et), access it and copy files.
If you keep trying to boot it, you might kill it for good and not get your files, so just swap it out first.

  • Computer shuts itself down after about 30 seconds

Ive had my computer since 2008 and it has ran perfectly fine untill a few moths ago where the fan just started making loud noises and just generally over working even when the computer isnt hot. Suddenly a month or two ago it started shutting itself down after about 10 minutes and it just got progressivly worse and it wont even get too the start up screen. Is there any idea on what causes this or how i can fix it because I really dont have the money too purchase a new computer and it would save ALOT of hassle too get it repaired,
    Thanks, Jack

This is usually a sign that your headphones are not plugged all the way in.  Make sure you cannot see any silver still showing from the headphone's plug.  It may require a little extra force to get the headphones to become fully inserted.  You should hear a sort of clicking noise indicating that they have been fully seated.
Also check the headphone port from a damage or debris.

  • My computer keeps shutting down when i try turn it on

My computer keeps shutting down when I try turn it on

Sounds like you may have hard drive issues.
You can try using built in diagnostics if you have them by holding D on startup.  If nothing special happens, your model does not have them.  You can then try to boot to recovery by holding Option while starting up and selecting Recovery HD.  (Run Disk Utility Repair)  If no Recovery HD appears, then you have a bad hard drive or an older OS than supports it.
If neither of those works I'd take it to an Apple store or Authorized Apple Service Provider near you for a diagnostic test.  Apple will do it for free, so it's preferred for a test, but may not be the best price for a simple hard drive replacement.  Head over to locate.apple.com to find the nearest AASPs and Apple Stores and set up an appointment.
