My computer no longer recognises the Airport base station network

I presently have wireless broadband internet access on my iBook (using a Belkin wireless ethernet router connected by an ethernet cable to my airport.)
I also have an Airport Express in another room connected to my stereo for playing all my iTunes songs wirelessly.
The problem arose in that if i wanted to listen to my music I had to switch between networks, meaning i couldn't surf the net and listen to music at the same time.
A few nights ago I tried to 'merge' the networks using Airport set-up assistant (or admin utility, I forget which).
Now, my computer no longer recognises the Airport base station network, just the Express one.
Is there a way of listening to my music and using the internet at the same time, and how do I get my internet working again in the first place!
Many thanks
Jono

Rebooted Airport Express and now working

  • Having problems with one computer not "seeing" the Airport base station.

    Aloha:
    I have an Airport router hooked up to the internet via Cable. I have a laptop and G4 desktop talking to the the Airport Base Station via their respective Airport cards. This allows me to get to the internet with both of my computers. This system has worked just fine for several years, but recently my desktop computer has started to be unable to connect to my Airport Base Station. At first it was intermittent, but now it has stopped completely. The laptop continues to be able to get to the internet via my Airport base station.
    The desktop is running OS 10.3.9 and the airport card in the desktop passes the hardware test that came with the laptop. But it can no longer see the signal from the ABS.
    What might my problem be?

    Hi Clinton:
    I have tried that to no avail. I don't see any
    signal, so I see no networks "in the box below" to
    choose. My airport card does not see a signal, but
    the airport card checks out ok in the hardware test.
    Thanks for replying, Clinton, much appreciated.

    Have you tried choosing "other..." and then entering the name of your network?

  • HT3728 I cannot find the Airport base station

    I have lost the connection to the Airport Base station and do not know how to get it back. I have internet through another modem, but need to reset everything back to using the Airport Base station 1TB to connect to the internet and to see my backup files and all my media. I am using a MacBook Air 13" 2012 model. Please can someone assist.

    Do a reset on the base station. It will return to default settings and you will then be able to pick it up..
    If you had it setup to join a wireless network then it will disappear. Don't use it that way.. Run it bridge or in router mode.
    I have to suggest if you have nothing but the air.. do go and get the USB to ethernet dongle.. it is not that expensive.. IMHO access a wireless device by wireless to fix wireless settings, is like the cartoons where the person is sitting on the tree branch sawing it off. When you change the wireless settings you then lose connection.. it is much better using ethernet.

  • What is the AirPort Base Station Agent?

    I just noticed in my Login Items on one of two computers (MacPro, no Airport card) there is an Application called AirPort Base Station Agent. It is checked to be invisible on opening. On my laptop (with Airport) that Application is not listed in Login Items. I never put it there myself as I don't know what it's for. It is located in System Folder/Core Services of both computers but only listed as a startup item in one of them.
    Can anyone explain? Should it be added to the laptop login?

  • Whats the airport card model of the airport base stations

    I have an A1026 airport card from an old ibook G4 that I'm not using. I've seen at ebay some airport base stations without "airport card" is it possible to install my A1026 on an airport base station or they have different cards ?

    The A1026 Airport Extreme card was used in the "saucer shaped" Airport Extreme Base Station models.
    My advice - don't throw away money buying one of these base stations off EBay. The Airport card inside them was probably cannibalized for a reason - because the card may have been the only thing inside the base station that still worked properly.

  • Do I need an internet connection to use the airport base station express?, Do I need an internet connection to use the airport base station express?, Do I need an internet connection to use the airport base station express?

    we have no wireless internet in my house and the only internet connection is a laptop aircard that does not give off signal. will the base station express work without an internet connection being fed to it?

    On the windows computer that is connected to the internet you will need to enable Internet Connection Sharing, see link below.  On the Airport you will need to turn Connection Sharing OFF as the Airport will not be handling NAT (network address translation) or be a DHCP Server as this will be handled by the computer with ICS.

  • How to configure correctly the Airport Base Station to work with windows PC?

    Hi Friends...
    I am having MacBook Air and Windows PCs with XP & Windows7.
    In MacBook I can use the internet through Airport Extreme Base Station.
    But In windows PCs I am unable to use. It is not getting the IP. And I am unable to configure DHCP also.
    Please help me out in this or let me know where i can get step by step instructions.
    Regards,
    Prakash

    If you temporarily disable wireless security on the AirPort, can both PCs now get their proper IP address information from the DHCP server in the base station?

  • Why hasn the airport base station still NOT got a adsl/cable modem yet?

    I want a all in one apple product
    It seems so obvious to me that this product is screaming out to have a modem built in. If it did i'd buy it with out a second thought.
    It's exactly the same with apple tv and the mac mini, they should be combined.
    Better still combine Apple tv, A mac mini, A modem (Cable or ADSL), Airport and some kind of digital tuner built in. A all in one Media sever/routing box.

  • Power USB Hub - powers the Airport Base Station (802.11n)?

    I have a powered USB hub hooked up to my new AE. If I pull the power plug for the AE, the unit remains partially powered via the USB port (my hub). It won't power down until I also remove the USB plug into the AE.
    Anybody else seen this? Is this normal? Is this an AE problem? Is this a problem with my USB hub?

    By partially powered I mean, when I unplug the AE, the light on the front remains on but flashing. Why would I unplug it? Because I want to reboot it because my cable modem dropped the connection and I could not get the connection back. I attempted to power down the cable modem and router but I left the printer, HD's, and the USB hub powered up.

  • Airport Base Station No Longer Found in Network

    Since applying the 10.5.2 upgrade yesterday my home network, routed via a cable modem and a formerly dependable original Airport Base Station, is no longer recognized by Airport Utility... and the Airport icon in the finder is continually scanning. I have found, however, that my network shows up as an available option in Network System Preferences...with a Connected status and an IP address (10.0.1.3).
    I can connect to the internet and read email from my main iMac because I am also connected directly via ethernet, but my laptop can't find the Airport base station, either. I have reset, unplugged, restarted, check connections and cables, etc. Both Macs easily find my Airport Express, however. I'm concerned the new update no longer supports the original base station...
    On another (unrelated?) note, my external backup HD (250GB Seagate), connected by Firewire, is now recognized as "Read Only," whereas it has always had read/write permission (confirmed in Get Info). So now my backup is failing, too. Sorry to introduce a new topic, but I'm frustrated!

    Firmware is uploaded onto the base station itself and is different from AirPort Utility. Although you probably cannot confirm it without connecting to the base station, I think it highly unlikely that you use a firmware version earlier than 6.1.1 (which came out in 2004). If newer firmware is contained in software on your computer, AirPort Admin Utility and/or AirPort Utility should have prompted you to upload it to the base station, whereas if it is not on your computer, Software Update (assuming you use it) should have prompted you to obtain it. Even if your firmware is older than version 6.1.1, the reset procedure is virtually the same--in that case, you won't see the AX's status LED flashing rapidly a few seconds after you start holding the reset button, and you will just need to hold the reset button for 10 full seconds.
    Once you connect to the base station, you should be able to see the firmware version (e.g., "Base Station Vx.x" where x.x is the firmware version) on the opening screen of AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow, when the base station is highlighted. I imagine that AirPort Utility shows similar information. I believe that in AirPort Utility, you can also check to see if newer firmware is available from Apple (choose "Check for Updates" in the AirPort Utility menu). To the best of my knowledge, the most current firmware version for AirPort Express is 6.3.

  • My computer can't find the Airport Express signals anymore

    I'm having some weird issues with my MacBook connecting to my Airport Express at home. 2 years ago I installed my new Airport Express and made a WPA Personal security password as recommended. Everything worked fine until Sunday my computer seemed to not find the signals anymore. I have tried all types of problem solving from the book and other places, but nothing seemed to help.
    The weird stuff is that my other 2 Mac computers have no problems connecting. The others the signals fine.
    My computer picks up all other wireless signals from the neighborhood.
    How can this be? I did nothing but turn my computer on and off and suddenly all "domestic signals" are non traceable any longer?
    I hope someone can help me; I am, as you probably can understand not a computer literate exactly.

    I have to switch between my internet 2Wire network and the AX base station network I created.
    If you configure the AirPort Express (AX) to join the wireless network provided by the 2wire you won't need to switch back and forth. There will only be one wireless network.
    My husband wanted to print with his MacBook Pro the same way, and so we tried to configure the base station on his computer.
    That was not needed. Once the base station is configured, any wireless client can join the network without needing to run any AirPort software.

  • HT3728 how do you switch airport base station controls from 1 computer to another?

    I recently purchased a macbook air (love it!) and I'd like to change out the the airport base station control access to my new macbook air from the PC that I initially set it up with. Is this possible to do without having to do a factory reset on my airport base statsion?  My PC is on the verge of klonking out any day...

    You can access your Airport from any device that has the Airport Utility installed as long as you are hardwired or in range of the network - I am not familiar with the new Macbook - it might already have Version 6 in utilities - this is the newest version and it is somewhat streamlined - if you want the same functionality that you are used to in the Windows version, then try and download 5.6 for your Mac - you can also use the mobile version by downloading the app to an Ipad or Iphone but is also a less functional version.

  • Trying to set up a wireless guest network using Airport base station.  The first network setup was fine but the second one doesn't work.  Any suggestions?

    I purchased the new Airport base station that allows for a wireless setup of a primary network and a guest network.  The primary network installation worked great but I cannot get the guest network to work properly.  Any suggestions on how to make it work?

    The AirPort base station is designed to connect to a simple modem......not a modem/router or gateway device that is often furnished to users by Internet Service Providers.
    So, the first troubleshooting question would be to find out what the make and model of the device that you call your "modem" might be.....to see if you have the right kind of product that will allow the Guest Network to operate correctly.

  • Airport base station agent process without the device

    Hello,
    just noticed that in the startup items of my macbook account I have an item labeled "airport base station agent".
    However, I dont have an airport base station...
    Since I'm having regular troubles with my wireless, I'm just wondering if anyone can suggest an explaination why the item is there, whether it might be an issue for my macbook wireless and whether should I remove it from the startup items or not.
    Thanks.
    Paolo

    I ended up manually removing the AirPortBaseStationAgent.plist file itself from /System/Library/LaunchAgents/ and the AirPort Base Station Agent Process has stopped running in Activity Monitor ever since. I don't know how good of an idea this was to do but it solved the problem. My AirPortBaseStationAgent.plist file had this info in it:
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>EnableTransactions</key>
    <true/>
    <key>KeepAlive</key>
    <dict>
    <key>PathState</key>
    <dict>
    <key>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AirPortBaseStationAgent.launchd</key>
    <true/>
    </dict>
    </dict>
    <key>Label</key>
    <string>com.apple.AirPortBaseStationAgent</string>
    <key>ProgramArguments</key>
    <array>
    <string>/System/Library/CoreServices/AirPort Base Station Agent.app/Contents/MacOS/AirPort Base Station Agent</string>
    <string>-launchd</string>
    <string>-allowquit</string>
    </array>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    It is an older plist file dated Dec. of 2008 which got transferred to the my iMac via the Migration Assistant in Jan. of 2009. This file somehow didn't ever seem to update no matter how I configured the AirPort Utility. The file "com.apple.AirPortBaseStationAgent.launchd" that it makes reference to in /Library/Preferences/ doesn't exist on my iMac.
    Thanks,
    Gerard

  • How to make sure I'm the only one who can manage my airport base station using airport utility?

    I know we have to use the Airport Utility application to manage the Airport base station in order to create a new network, creating the SSID and chosing the encryption mode and setting the password but how I could be sure I'm the only one who have access to those settings? A user of my network can install the Airport Utility application and change those settings. With other routers like D-Link, to have access to the settings you need to know the admin password to modify the settings. I can't figure out how we can do this with Airport Extreme base station. It's maybe obvious but I'm in the cloud for the moment.

    You can set a base station administrator password in order to limit who can administer the base station. With AirPort Utility v6.x, you can set this password on the Base Station tab.
