My Computer Only recognizes My IPhone 4 As A Digital Camera

When I plug my iPhone into my laptop, it does not show up in iTunes. I'm running windows 7 with iTunes version 10.0.1.22. When I run a diagnostic in iTunes it says that no iPhone is connected, I have tried different USB ports, different USB cables, I have uninstalled iTunes and have tried removing, disabling my iPhone which is recongized in device manager under portable devices, and I followed some instructions in services to fix this problem, but at this moment can't remember what it was at this moment.
Now I know a few other people are experiencing this problem but one diffence I have noticed is that my phone Shows up in my computer as a digital camera, other people have not reported this issue.
So if anyone can help with this conundrum, many thanks

The iPhone is two separate devices, a digital camera and an iPod. It is normal for it to be recognized as a digital camera when there are photos in the camera roll; this is to allow you to transfer the photos to your computer.
The iPod should also launch iTunes, then appear in the left panel of the iTunes screen. If it doesn't your iTunes installation is corrupted or you have USB driver problems. To diagnose the problem first make sure you are connecting the phone to a USB port directly on the computer, not to a hub.
Next launch Task Manager (CTRLSHIFTESC). Click on the Processes tab then Image Name to sort on the name. Look for AppleMobileDeviceService.exe. If it is not present that is your problem. If it is the best solution is to completely uninstall then reinstall iTunes. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925.
If the mobile service is not running to to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Find the service, right click on it and launch it. If you get an error your firewall or antivirus may have disabled it.

I am trying to retrieve music that I had from an iPad to my iTunes account. I'm using the same computer for synching my iPhone.  I'm logged into my iPad account, but can't retrieve music. It only recognizes my iPhone.  Does anyone know how I can get my music?  I know longer own the iPad so I don't have access to it, but I don't think that should be a problem.

So you had music on the iPad that is not in iTunes and you no longer have the iPad. Is that what you are saying? If that is what you are saying, iTunes won't "recognize" anything that was on the iPad, that was not purchased from iTunes. If the music was purchased from iTunes, you should probably be able to download it again for free as long as you are using the same Apple ID that you bought it with. Did you try downloading the music again?
Am I understanding what it is that you want to do? If I am understanding you correctly, you will find this to be useful.

I admit that I'm a little confused by your remark about being logged into your iPad account. You should be logged into your iTunes account.

  • I can't get my windows computer to recognize my iPhone 4s.  What should I do?

I have an iPhone 4s that I'm trying to sync with my windows computer but I can't get my computer to recognize the iPhone.  My computer is running with the windows 7 64 bit operating system.  I have the latest version of iTunes as well.  I've followed the troubleshooting guide and still haven't been able to get it to show up.  I've even gone so far as to uninstall all of my apple software and then reinstall iTunes.  Still doesn't work.  I'd appreciate any suggestions that you all might have.

Also, I just realized that I activated/setup the phone using a computer that I no longer have.  When I go into the iPhone's settings>general>iTunes Wi-Fi Sync menu, it says that it will sync with that old computer when it is available?  Can my iPhones only sync with one computer at a time?  If so, what do I do if I no longer have that original computer?

I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.

How can I make my computer only recognize my network and not that of one of my neighbors? This is for when I am at home, and everytime the computer goes to sleep it essentially loses the connection, only to pick up my neighbors network when it is awaken.

  • Computer only recognizes nano when hold switch is on

My computer only recognizes my nano when the hold switch is on. With it on I can connect, sync, and eject, but as soon as I turn the hold switch off the ipod goes off and I cannot turn it back on unless I switch the hold back on and connect. I have tried all 5 R's and have tried connecting on another computer. Someone please help.

Is your iTunes software up-to-date? Version 7.0.2.16 is the most current. Also, is your iPod firmware up-to-date? I believe version 1.1.1 is the most current. If they are not current, connect your ipod to the computer again and try to update first the iTunes version and then the iPod. This may help.
Also, you mentioned you have tried plugging the iPod into other computers...are you getting the same results? If the above doesn't help any and you have gone through all of the 5 R's it's possible you have a faulty unit and may want to exchange (if you are still within the return period for where ever you purchased your player. This varies but I believe it ranges from 14 days to 30 days. Check your receipt) or return it under warranty.

  • Iphone recognised as "still digital camera" ?

I have just registered my i phone and am cuurently operating on a temp number as my original is being activated...shouldn't be long now.....my problem is that when I now plug in the usb to update music etc again the computer seems to recognise the phone as "still digital camera", Itunes doesn't open and the computer shuts down as the result of a "serious error" where the truncated folder on restart mentions some kind of "apple lockdown" - if any of this looks sadly familiar or rings a bell then PLEASE HELP me....be gentle though as u have probably guessed i'm not a particularly techy person.....any help greatly appreciated .....the phone is fine at the moment but I'm a tad concerned that when I want to update music / photos etc in the near future ...this is going to happen again and again....can't be good eh ??? cheers, Malcolm

Just to add to Nathan's post... and as an FYI...
If you are using windows then it is correct behaviour to recognize the iPhone as a digital still camera AS WELL. So if you have photo management software loaded (photoshop premiere / corel etc), these softwares will recognize the camera portion of your phone and allow you to use 3rd party software to pull/manage the pictures on it. You should also see the iphone in My Computer which will allow you to use Windows to pull pics from it that way.

  • HT201401 my pc only recognizes my iphone as a camera

This is just frustrating.  I've never downloaded software because i didn't know i was supposed to LOL.  This is the first phone i've ever purchased that didn't come with a freaking huge instruction book.....

That's all a computer will ever recognize an iPhone as because that's all it is... a fancy digital camera.
If the user desires to sync content to the device or backup the device to the computer, it requires iTunes to be installed.
Maybe it would be a good idea to read the User's Guide so that you have a better understanding of the device and it's capabilities.

  • I think my apple computer only recognises my iphone 4 as a camera. How can I fix this please? T

I hope some one can help me...I am trying to follow the process of unlocking my iphone4 for overseas travel. It has been done with my provider but I am having trouble accessing itunes to complete the task as I think my computer only recognises my phone as a camera. My prtner has an iphone3 on the same computer and this could be part of the problem.

See http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 for troubleshooting steps.  (Another iPhone on the same computer wouldn't cause issues with your phone not being detected in iTunes.)

  • Computer will recognize my iphone but not my wifes

My wife and I both have Iphone 4's that have been set up on the same computer.  Recently the computer will recognize my phone but not my wifes.  When I plug her's in, I get a double chime and that is it.  Plug mine in, get a single Chime, and Itunes opens and syncs.  I have removed Itunes and the supporting programs, including Bonjour, and reinstalled.  It did not work.  Also I took her phone to the Apple store, it recoginzed on their computer there and they installed IOS 5 for us.  Got home and still nothing.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

Hello: Thanks to all who replied or read my concern. I was able to solve the issue on my own. What I forgot to mention in the original post was that both my wife and I were attempting to use the Free App " Find My iPhone" from the App Store to set up Find My iPhone which I'm not certain if that was the source of the headache.
At any rate, I simply deleted the app from both iPhones and set up them up in iCloud using the same AppleID account and password which is what it said all along-but I was not getting it. After doing so, both my iPhone and my wife's iPhone are listed in My Devices.
    Best Regards,
    Marty

  • Can't get my computer to recognize the iPhone.

When connecting the iPhone to the USB cable, the USB port recognizes the iPhone as a digital camera. This just started happening out of the blue. I have no idea what would cause this. Has anyone experienced this? Anyway, after being connected for a few more seconds, the BLUE screen of death appears with some memory address fatal error. As an FYI, I also have a iPod, and it connects without any issues.

After confirming that the iPhone is in fact recognized as a Digital Camera on a PC, the sales rep at the Apple Store and I started to brainstorm the possible causes of the system crash. He said, while it is a digital camera to the USB port, the iTunes application will still load the device and sync. Unfortunately, I was not able to get that far due to that Blue Screen of Death. So, I asked myself what has changed in the past few days. Low and behold. What has changed is that I actually started taking pictures using the iPhone. As a result, there were photos on the camera roll. So I loaded the pictures on my laptop..which did not have a problem loading the iPhone, then DELETE the pictures on the camera roll.
So after loading iTunes, then connecting the iPhone on my PC, I heard the infamous beep from the past two days. Then NOTHING for about 4 seconds, which was a good sign. Then there it was...my iPhone syncing on iTunes. It was a beautiful site. While this still doesn't solve my problem, I was happy to have been able to sync with my iTunes library. In the meantime, I'll offload my pics from the camera roll onto my laptop. Thank you all that replied.

  • Why does my computer recognise my iPhone 4 as a digital camera? I can't load any audio files. Thanks

I recently bought an iPhone 4 and a month later the Apple Shop installed IOS 5.  My contacts have all been backed up but I can't get the phone to load any audio files - no podcasts or music.
    Thanks, Colin.

When there are photos/vidoes in the Camera Roll, the iPhone will also be recognized as a digital camera when connected to your computer.
