My computer recognizes my iPod nano but not my iPod shuffle

I don't know how to get my computer and iTunes to recognize my iPod shuffle, but I already have a nano that works perfectly with my computer.

If you're connecting them both at the same time -- don't. Unplug the Nano dock, and plug the Shuffle into the same USB port -- preferably through a USB extension cable (to preclude any physical connection problems with the Shuffle). Unless there's something wrong with your Shuffle it should appear in the iTunes Source List, just like your Nano.

  • Deleting songs off of Ipod Nano but NOT off of playlist

    Hi,
I'm brand new to my Ipod and not very computer savvy. Can anyone tell me an EASY way to delete songs off of my Ipod but not my playlist. I don't get the whole "restore" thing-help!! Thanks so much!

To delete songs from the iPod but keep them in iTunes you have to set your iPod to manual update. Your iPod will not sync with iTunes in this mode so it can have different content, you can get details here:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Once your iPod is in manual mode, you click on the chevron to the left of the iPod icon (the little black triangle) to display the icons for the iPod itself, Music, playlists etc. You click on the Music icon relating to the iPod and this bring up the songs that are on your iPod in the main pane to the left. In the main pane you find what you want to delete, highlight it and hit the delete key.
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Itunes sees my ipod touch but not my ipod classic; windows 8 sees each of them

I had an ipod classic 80Gb (older device - 4th gen?) as my daily device, a 16gb touch (newer one - 4th I think) as a backup when my ancient PC crashed and died, had to get a new one.  This happened 1st of Sept.  New PC has windows 8, and I downloaded latest itunes onto it.  This latest itunes recognizes my ipod touch, even synced my new library with it (yes, I had to completely redo my playlists etc after the crash as itunes would not recognize the old library I had had on the ipod).  But plugging my (older ?) ipod classic into the same usb port, itunes does NOT even recognize that there is an ipod.  Here is what happens :
An olive green windowlet comes up (from itunes ?), beeps at me, tells me "there is a problem with this drive please scan the drive now and fix it".  I assume it means the drive with the ipod in it because the beep happens right after I plug in the usb cable.   I can see this usb port on windows file system, it says "ipod", and can, after some waiting, see the directories... iPod_Control > Music > Fxx  etc., under which there appear to be songs ... mp3 and m4a and wav files, but their names are abbreviated with 4 caps, eg. IXOK.mpe, IPDT.mp3 ... but the little earphone symbol shows beside so possibly I could even play one were I to double click it (default player might come up etc.)... have not tried this yet.  The default player mentioned would be itunes, but here is a problem :  the whole time that my unrecognized-by-itunes ipod is plugged into the usb, itunes is completely hung up... can't even move the window across the screen.  Once I pull the thing out of the usb, itunes is fine again.
This ipod that is not recognized has also been behaving as if it needs a new battery ... does not hold a charge more than a couple of hours... this has been the case since shortly before the new computer, however during the time that there is a charge it does play songs, ff, etc just like always.  So I am not sure if this has anything to do with somebody's (itunes' ?) perception that "there is a problem with this drive..."...

I ended up Erase and Syncing again just like I was moving to a new iTunes library. The relationship between my iPod Touch and iTunes got messed up. Everything else was fine. Once I did that everything backed up and re-synced fine.
So glad I didn't have to restore. The weird thing that happened was I canceled out from the Erase and Sync both times and iTunes still attempted to do it anyway. Once I let it, it worked fine.

  • Mp3s play in iTunes and on iPod mini but not on iPod classic

Some of the mp3s in my iTunes library will not play on my new 160G iPod classic. I paid for and downloaded the mp3s from the internet (not p2p), most of wich are CBR (192Kbps), but the occasional album is VBR. All of the mp3s play fine in windows media player, iTunes and on my old iPod mini. When I go to play them on my iPod classic, the tracks just skip. It seems strange that the files play on an older model of ipod.
I have searched though these forums, and have seen people having similar trouble, but have yet to come across a solution.

Yes, I have this problem as well. I have synced and re-synced an entire library three times now (which is not easy when you have almost 10k tracks to upload) and the same issue occurs on some tracks, but not others. I can't really see a commonality amongst the files to figure out why the ipod won't play the songs. They play fine on Itunes and when the unit itself is hooked up to my computer, but not if you are just listening to it from the Ipod. Strange...hope somebody can answer this question soon...the problem is really irritating.

  • Ipod nano: do not disconnect, ipod screen on itunes locked

My ipod nano was working fine originally but now, the ipod screen on itunes has a little padlock by the remaining disk space bar and all of my music is not available to click on which means it wont let me delete anything. I would be grateful if anybody could point me in the direction to fixing this. Thanks

In iTunes preferences, iPod section, do you have iTunes currently set to automatically update the nano's music playlists when connected?
This setting will cause iTunes to 'lock' the iPod in the way that you are seeing as it is managing the iPod's contents for you and does not expect you to delete stuff yourself. Selecting the manual update option in iTunes / iPod preferences will remove the 'lock' - just depends on your preference as to how automated you want the iTunes / iPod synchronisation to be.

  • Computer sees 3rd gen nano but not 2nd

I have a second generation nano.
My son has a third generation nano.
Until recently both ipod's worked just fine. Last week I plugged my ipod in, my computer tells me the usb device is not recognized. The ipod does not charge while hooked up to the computer but I have a wall charger and it will charge when connected to it.
My sons ipod works just fine.
Any ideas what's going on here?

I read somewhere that the new nano charges in a slightly different way to the previous generation. Although the official Apple charger will charge it, a lot of the generic chargers designed for the previous generations of ipod will not work. Buying a new charger may be the only solution.

  • Why will my music library download onto my iPod nano but not on my iPod touch (5th gen.)?

I imported a few CDs to my music library earlier and I tried to download them onto my iPod touch and it wouldn't work. The songs just have grey dotted circles beside them. I'm not sure what this means.. Anyways, since it wouldn't work on my touch I thought I'd try and put them on my nano. And sure enough when I synced it, it worked. Can someone please help me out? I'd rather not have to carry around 2 iPods around with me now..

  • In trying to update itunes to version 10.7 I get messages that older versions of "Bonjour" and "Apple Software update" cannot be removed and so the update fails. Itunes works well on my old ipod nano but not on my new ipod touch? Any ideas

Any ideas as to how I can update an older version of iTunes to at least version 10.7 given the problems I'm having with "bonjour" and the "software update"?

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get aCode 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Updateentries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Next, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does it go through properly this time?

I recently upgraded to iTunes 11.1.5 and now my iPod Nano is not recognized in iTunes. I also upgraded my iPhone 5s to iOS 7.1. i Tunes on my computer does recognize my iPhone. What is the problem with my iPod Nano not being recognized?

I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.

  • TS1369 I just bought a new laptop and my ipod nano will not stay connected to my computer. When I first connect the ipod it starts to sync on my ipod but not in itunes. At this point my ipod is connected to my computer but when it finishes syncing it's no

I just bought a new laptop and my ipod nano will not stay connected to my computer. When I first connect the ipod it starts to sync on my ipod but not on itunes. The ipod is initially connected to my computer, I can see it when I look on devices in my computer. However, when it finishes syncing it is no longer detected to my computer. I cannot transfer any of my songs to my new laptop because of this. I have tried to reinstall itunes, reset my ipod and use a different port. None of these things worked. Any ideas?

  • Solved: New iPod nano 8g not seen in My Computer/iTunes after Apple Support

I received this iPod as a Christmas gift and it has taken months to get it working but I am happy to say I finally did. I wanted to post what I did to solve the problem in case anyone else is having the same issue.
    Background Information:
    - Windows XP operating system (I had to upgrade to SP 2 just for this iPod)
    - Computer works fine with an older iPod nano
    - New iPod nano would simply bring up the "Install Hardware Wizard" and always resulted in "Cannot Install Hardware"
    - Nothing would show up in My Computer
    - iPod would say "Connected, Eject before disconnecting" when it was connected
    - Under "Services" iPod service was running & Started
    - Under "Device Manager" iPod showed up under "Other Devices" with an exclamation/question mark for "iPod" (note: this did not show up under USB controllers)
What I Have Tried That Didn't Work:
    - Downloading new iTunes. I did this a few times and ended up with 7.6.1.9
    - Uninstall and reinstall iTunes and Quicktime
    - Tried Install Hardware Wizard option to search for drivers in c:\WINNT\inf (or c:\windows\inf if that's what you have)
    - Restarted computer several times and tried creating a new user in Windows XP
    - Tried going to "Right-click-My Computer"-"Manage"-"Device Manager" and uninstalled any instance of iPod (under "Other Devices") and tried refreshing / re-installing
    - Tried stopping and restarting the iPod service in "Services"
    - Tried restarting iPod, resetting it, all those 5 R's and other Apple support docs online
    - Tried finding answers in forums
    - Finally today I spent a few hours on the phone with Apple Support, and after repeating everything in their self-help documents online, and it still didn't work, they said "Call Microsoft and tell them you have a driver issue" and that my new iPod needed some additional driver (which is why old iPod works but not new)
So that's where I left off this afternoon. I think I've seen people who haven't had much luck getting Microsoft support to help with iPod issues, so I continued searching online. I tried updating my Video driver from the Gateway.com website and that didn't work.
On the microsoft.com website, the best I could find was a registry change which told me to delete registry keys for UpperFilters and LowerFilters, which I didn't even have so I couldn't try.
Finally, here is the solution to what worked:
I searched for iPod - specific drivers, and on some random help forum - http://www.computing.net/hardware/wwwboard/forum/43267.html
You'll see they mention "usbstor.inf" which needs to be in c:\winnt\inf (or c:\windows\inf). I checked my computer and it was missing. Luckily, it was there on my work laptop which was also recently upgraded to Windows XP so I e-mailed it to myself (glad I didn't have to trust some one online).
I also followed his directions to add "usbstor.sys" from c:\winnt\servicepack files\i386\ to c:\winnt\system32\drivers.
    Lastly, I saw some other usb*.inf and usb*.pnf files on my laptop so I decided what-the-heck, I'll grab them all since I only had usbvideo.inf, and thus I extracted the following into my c:\winnt\inf directory: usb.inf, usb.pnf, usbport.inf, usbport.pnf, usbprint.pnf, usbprint.inf, usbstor.pnf, usbtor.inf.
I restarted my computer and right away my iPod magically appeared in MyComputer and when I opened iTunes, it was also successfully there. Funny thing is, Windows Install Hardware Wizard popped up and I pointed it to that directory -- guess what, it didn't work. Apparently that doesn't matter. Every time I plug in my iPod now, I will just skip the "Install New Hardware Wizard" and go straight to iTunes.
I know this was lengthy but I thought I could save some one else hours of checking around--- just go look in your "inf" directory and make sure you have the usbstor.inf file!
    Good luck!!!!

  • My ipod nano will not show any music on it after syncing or manuallly adding it, but the information still takes up space in ipod

I have tried to put music on my ipod nano 3rd gen both manually and syncing it, but it never shows up after I eject my nano. The songs I put on will take up space, but the ipod says no songs. I have restored it multiple times and nothing has helped.

    Hey there Eduardo_09,
It sounds like your iPod Nano is not appearing in either Windows, or iTunes on your computer. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help isolate and resolve the issue:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
Here is step 1 to get you started, but there are additional steps within if needed:
    1. Start with the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant
If you haven't already done so, use the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant that applies to your iPod. This will often solve your issue.
If you're still experiencing the issue after going through each of the steps in the assistant, continue with the steps below in this article. The most likely solutions are listed below (for both USB and FireWire (IEEE 1394) iPod connections). Check each section starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping your iPod from appearing.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling
