My computer's server

I am trying to set up a new email service- Thunderbird- and it keeps asking me for the type of server I am using- either POP or IMAP. How do I know which one I am using? It also asks for the name of my incoming/outgoing server? How do I go about finding this out too?

Just to elaborate a little more. Most mail services offer pop mail accounts as well as imap.
You can set them up by typing in the Incomeing and Out going Mail server feilds on the account setup..(Example)
[email protected](Incoming)
smtp. mail@ sbcglobal.net (Outgoing)
These will very from service to service, as to the exact address.. Who ever your service is with probably gave you these settings when you purchased there service.
All Internet Service Providers give this information on initial set-up.. I hope this helps explain it better.
One last thing the server addresses that you are given have to be exact or they will not function correctly...

    Ok this worked to solve the error.
    Use cmd prompt in windows 7 or 8 and run as admin:
    sc config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi
    sc config mrxsmb20 start= disabled
    No need for all that power shell nonsense as shown elsewhere for windows 8.
    That's it. Also force smb2 disabling on the apple side for good measure.
    With the above I was able to network mavericks and windows 8.1 pro flawlessly. He issues I had before where I could not read video, ISO and audio files (but could open documents and pictures from the windows machine connected to an apple network share folder went away.

    I really like the fact that they give you free space on their servers even though its only 15mb it's really all I need for my club website. I am currently hosting a website off of my G3 Mac (using it as a server) I am using the built in Web Sharing feature, therefore my website is my IP address, I was wondering if it is possible to make the files People access from my IP address hosted off of my geocites website, but not use their domain. I would like to just keep my IP for now until I purchase a domain from Go-Daddy. My reason for this is my Computer must be left on and it can't bee asleep for people to access my Webpage. So I would like to be able to have somone hosting my website for free, with my IP still as my address, I don't think this is possible but it never hurts to ask right?
    1. Is there free web hosting place out there that will let you do this?
    2. Is there anyway I can make my computer wake up when someone tries to access my site?
    3. Is there anywhere that gives you a fully customizable website for free?
    4. Is there any other options I have?

    Internet Wiz, Just a couple of points, to think about.
    The software that yahoo offers to develop your website is for PC only.
    I use this service myself.
    I paid for my domain name, I also let Yahoo Host the site with Geocities.
    I also have a PC that I use strictly for doing any changes on the site.
    I am the WebMaster, Thus I use them for everything, and I don't have to use my equipment, for anything, other than making changes to my site.
    Yes you can use Mac Software and yes you can use your equipment to host your site. I opted several years ago to use Yahoo for the ease of use.
    If you choose to use your own Software and your equipment, bear in mind it is a 24/7 proposition on your part. for your equipment...Hope this helps..Don

    Today I was checking the server and I find that C: disk is not showing Under "My computer" whereas it is showing under disk management and its status is okay. Please tell what the problem and how I resolve that issue? Because server is in production and we can't afford sudden downtime.

  • My macbook pro hacked by turning device computer into server

    got hacked somehow.  He (I think I know) turned computer name under "devices" the finder window and then overrided my admin capabilities.  I tried to save a screen shot but it said I didn't have permissions now.   I work 30+ apple computers and am very frustratd because apple says my 3 year plan just ran (Macbook Pro - Snow Leopard)

    Listen man, I was on the computer when it happened.  I do a lot of program specialist/IT work/maintainance.  The displays icon suddenly appeared and I clicked on it and it showed that I had multiple displays currently active.  When I went to finder window to check out what was going on, my "computer name" under "devices" was turned into a server.  He basically overrid all my permissions, and I could not control my computer at all.  Then I pluged in a mouse and was able to go to the "Accounts" "get info" and lower his privlidges and permissions, but I didn't lock out finder and when I when to the permissions list of the mobile device he was using and tried to take a screen shot and it said I no longer "can save screen shots because I do not have permissions" and then I went to shutdown and it did hit it again to bypass the 60 sec countdown.
    Now it wont boot.  I accidentally left the grey apple screen with wheel spinning for over a day.  I have tried safe boot and boot to disk.  I guess I could try target disk, but my old iMac doesn't have the capacity (120 vs 320 GB)....    Now I'm bummed out and apple says my 3 year sub is up and don't think I've used that thing but once or twice.... rediculous.....

    I having some problem with One of our clients, its mine :)
    It does not register with the site 
    ClientIDManagerStartup.log:
    MP_RegistrationManager.log
    I have no idea why! I don't even use https and PKI. I have done a reinstalled the client by removing "C:\windows\SMSCFG.ini" and the SMS certificates before install but it still won't register. CCMSetup logs return successfull. Boundaries is setup
    correctly.
    I have also tried to uninstall ccmagent and readded the computer object in SCCM and installed it through client push but still the same problem.
    I really don't want to reinstall the whole computer as I have already installed lots of applications i don't know if that will work anyway, could try to run a sysprep maybe.
    Any ideas?

  • DCOM got error "2147942405" from the computer; Windows Server 2008 R2

    I am trying to install the dpm 2012 agent on a Windows 2008SP2 server. An automatic install failed, so I installed the agent manually. After installing the agent I tried to associate the agent. I got a success message, but in the management console there
    is an error under 'agent status'. If I try a refresh on the server I get this error on the DPM server:
    DCOM got error "2147942405" from the computer HV5.ad.milwaukee.gov when attempting to activate the server:
    {C4EBD674-1457-4B79-BE30-B04735AED9D1}
    There is no firewall running on the Windows 2008 server.

    I added the DPM server to the local administrative group on the target server, and that fixed the problem.

  • Can't get PS3 to see computer media server

    Ok..I have an older WRT54G V2 router (with newest firmware). Both my computer with the media server and the PS3 have access to the internet.  However, I cannot get them to see each other.  I've read through other posts, but it seems my router is a bit dated compared to most discussions.
    I just switch internet providers..The last one I didn't need a linksys and I could get the PS3 to see the media server just fine.  With my new provider I have a modem hooked to the linksys. 
    Any hints/suggestions would be helpful. 

    When your Computer and the PS3 is connected to the Linksys Router you need to Re-Enable the Media Server settings on your PS3 as well as on your PC.
    You can try this like to re-enable the Media Server between your PS3 and your PC.

    I would like to customize the policy setting "Hide these specified drives in My Computer" found
    under "User Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer", but can't figure out how.
    I would like the policy setting to be "A, B, C, D and E,F  drives only" instead of
    "A, B, C and D drives only".
    I would like to edit the Policy setting and i need to add E and F Drive In server 2012 group policy
    Can anyone help?

    Either - as SenneVL suggested - simply deploy the registry value you
    need through Group Policy Preferences "Registry". Or edit the ADMX
    template to add more drive letter combinations :)
    BTW: It's not a REG_BINARY, it's a REG_DWORD.

         I'm heading to uni soon and am looking to mirror my current iTunes setup whilst there. I currently have a desktop that has all of my media on, and from which I can stream all of my content using Home Sharing. However, at university I will not have a home network as I do now. Finding a way to create one is my first problem - my second problem, and the reason for this post, is how to then create a 'dumb' computer on that network that will serve as the server, and to have it back up a copy of the main drive to an external drive so that they are always in sync.

  • SSRS 2013 Native Mode - Cannot See Report Builder Button after Installing on my Desktop Computer - SQL Server Express

    I have installed SQL Server Express 2013 on my home PC, which runs Windows 7.  I used the advanced installation, which includes Reporting Services.  The install seemed to go okay but when I open SSRS, I cannot see the Report Builder button on the
    screen.  I have spent a lot of time trying to figure this out, including installing and reinstalling the program.  I am not sure what I am doing wrong.  Also, I cannot connect to the report server through SQL Server Management Studio.
    If anyone has any straightforward assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.  I have spent a lot of time looking for answers.  In the meanwhile I'll continue seeing if I can get this to work.

  • Issue with re-connecting a Client Computer to the Server Essentials R2 2012

    I have an issue re-connecting a Client Computer to Server Essentials R2 2012.  The Client Computer in question was connected to the Sever originally.  I started getting Error Messages indicating that I was running out of storage room.  I
    had been wanting to re-configure this Server with additional Hard Drives for some time, but something else always came up first.  Now, I was forced to address the problem.  I shut down the Server and added additional Hard Drives and while I was at
    it I replaced the original Hard Drive that the Server Operating System was on with a much smaller Hard Drive, and reinstalled Server Essentials on that Drive.  Everything was working fine and the Server Back-up went fine to an external Hard Drive. 
    I was ready to re-install my Client Computers.  I started with my primary Production Computer first.  The Connector Software seemed to install fine, but as I moved through the Connection Wizard I received the following Error Message:  "Cannot
    connect this computer to the network.  This computer is already connected to another Windows Server Network.  Before connecting this computer to the Windows Server Essentials network, you must remove this computer from the current network. 
    To resolve this issue, contact the person responsible for your network".  I am the Administrator.  I removed the Connector Software following the instructions in the "Troubleshooting connecting computers to the Server", but I continue
    to get the Error Message whenever I attempt to re-connect the Client Computer.  I have not attempted to connect any of the other three Client Computers yet as I need to resolve this issue first on my primary production machine.  Where am I going
    wrong?  Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Based on the error messages that you provided, please remove the connector software from Control Panel completely. Then, in the problematic computer, please locate
    to: Control Panel-> System-> select Change settings. And select the Computer Name tab in the System Properties dialog box, click
    change button. Then in the Computer Name/Domain Changes dialog box, please take the computer out of the domain as a workgroup, and rejoin in new domain.
    Please check if this issue can be solved. If it still exists, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

    Assuming that you have an additional domain controller on your desktop computer, you will need too SEIZE the FSMO roles to your desktop computer. Then re-install the OS on the old DC and do a Metadata cleanup and then go with promoting
    the additional domain controller. These are the tasks which you need to do:
    Seize the FSMO roles from your crashed old DC to your desktop computer. Using Ntdsutil.exe to transfer or seize FSMO roles to a domain controller
    Do a Metadata cleanup and remove old objects related to your crashed DC.  Clean Up Server Metadata
    Re-install OS on your OLD Sever and promote it as additional domain controller to your desktop computer(DC).
    Transfer the FSMO roles back to your server which is a clean DC now. How to view and transfer FSMO roles in the graphical user interface
