My computer shuts down after about two minutes of use or at startup. What is the problem?
Yesterday I used it for about ten minutes.
Yesterday was the first time using it after about 5 days.

Could you tell me how to check my system log, and how to tell if it is the disk cache? I am pretty sure it is not the GPU as I was having the problem using a Quadro 4000 as well.
Thanks!

  • Computer Shuts Down After About 5 Minutes

    This occurs when I'm on battery mode. The battery is relatively new and indicates being fully charged. I have the Energy Saver set to go to sleep after 1 hour of inactivity.
    Any help will be very much appreciated.

    Solution found!!!!
    I read online that issues arise when the AC power adapters' built in surge protectors fail.  I simply unplugged my computer while playing Fable 3 and... 'VOILÀ'!!!  GPU temp drops right back down to 61C. Got a new adapter on order now.
    Thnx for the help man I really appreciate the advice.

    1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
    2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo.

  • Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop shuts down after about 1 minute

    Despite being plugged into AC power, my Lenovo 3000 N100 shuts down after about one minute. It boots properly but suddenly shuts down. I have not used this laptop much since purchasing it in 2006 and have seldom used it on battery power alone. Any suggestions before I buy a new battery? Maybe I am mistaken, but shouldn't the computer work on AC despite a depleted battery?

    Hi Charleydog and welcome to the community,
    Take the battery out  and unplug the ac.  Hold the power button down for about 15 seconds.  Do it twice.  Then plug only the ac in and see if it fires up.

    Hello- I use a radio app with my iPod touch 5, when I plug it in to my JBL dock speaker, it shuts down after about 10 minutes. Can I defeat this auto shut off mode ? thanks -

    Al that is left are the standard fixes:
    - Reset the dock
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Computer shuts down after 5-15 minutes

    After 5-15 minutes of inactivity the computer shuts down when on battery. As long as the computer stays active, it will not shut down; ie: netflix watch now not a problem.
    Support had me do a hard reset with battery removed; repair permissions; and reset pram; but the problem continues. The Leopard I am using is an upgrade, clean install with latest update. This behavior does not occur when I run the computer off of an external usb inclosure with old Tiger operating system, running on the original disk . So this suggests to me that it is a software and not hardware problem. Also when plugged in the computer will eventually quit and restart on its own.
    Is there anything else to try or is archive and install the only option left because I have a corrupted Leopard install ??
    Thanks for any suggestions !!

    rakki,
    Just curious. When did this problem start? Possibly when you upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5? (10.4.11 to 10.5.5 even?).
    I'm having similar though not identical issues with battery performance that started the day I upgraded to 10.5.5 from 10.4.11.

  • Vibe 3.4 SSL link shutting down after 2-3 minutes of use

    I have a strange issue on a vibe 3.4 installation on SLES 11.3
    Vibe is installed using the default configuration and the port mapping is
    also configured as standard and works well for internal and external access.
    However the https:// secure link only works for 2 -3 minutes after
    the"/etc/init.d/teaming start" command then the port shuts down preventing
    any further secure links. The normal http:// links continues to work fine.
    The problem is we are trying to use the office integrations which only allow
    a https:// link
    There is something on the server that shuts the secure port 8443 down after
    2-3 minutes of operation
    Can anyone please give me some help as to where to start looking for the
    cause of this.
    Thanks
    Mark Behrens

    Mark,
    you can try other solution. It uses bouncycastle library.
    1. Check Java installation (you can have more on one machine) configured in Vibe. In file /opt/novell/teaming/teaming-config/installer.xml you can find:
    <JDK JAVA_HOME="/usr/lib/java/latest" type="Sun"/>
    2. Download file https://www.bouncycastle.org/downloa...dk15on-151.jar and copy it into [java]/lib/ext and [java]/jre/lib/ext (probably you have only of them, it's ok).
    3. Edit file [java]/lib/security/java.security and [java]/jre/lib/security/java.security (you have probably only one of them).
    find:
    security.provider.1=sun.security.provider.Sun
    security.provider.2=sun.security.rsa.SunRsaSign
    security.provider.3=sun.security.ec.SunEC
    security.provider.4=com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.P rovider
    security.provider.5=com.sun.crypto.provider.SunJCE
    security.provider.6=sun.security.jgss.SunProvider
    security.provider.7=com.sun.security.sasl.Provider
    security.provider.8=org.jcp.xml.dsig.internal.dom. XMLDSigRI
    security.provider.9=sun.security.smartcardio.SunPC SC
    security.provider.10=sun.security.mscapi.SunMSCAPI
    and replace it with:
    security.provider.1=sun.security.provider.Sun
    security.provider.2=org.bouncycastle.jce.provider. BouncyCastleProvider
    security.provider.3=sun.security.rsa.SunRsaSign
    security.provider.4=sun.security.ec.SunEC
    security.provider.5=com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.Provider
    security.provider.6=com.sun.crypto.provider.SunJCE
    security.provider.7=sun.security.jgss.SunProvider
    security.provider.8=com.sun.security.sasl.Provider
    security.provider.9=org.jcp.xml.dsig.internal.dom.XMLDSigRI
    security.provider.10=sun.security.smartcardio.SunPCSC
    security.provider.11=sun.security.mscapi.SunMSCAPI
    Restart Vibe and test all again.

  • Computer locks up -have to do hard shut down- after about two times its ok

    Seems like the computer locks up on battery or AC. When I shut down with the power button two or three times things seem to work ok for a while. I bought this about two weeks ago and the seller stated that g4's have a problem with processor location that can make computer act up. could this be the problem.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    When you say the computer locks up, do you mean it freezes and you have to force shut it down? This is not considered normal behavior. It could indicate logic board problems. What the seller told you sounds like BS to me. You might want to consider returning this one and looking for a different one. Even if the problem is intermittent now, it likely will get worse over time. And could be expensive to fix.
    Good luck!

  • IPhone 4 shuts down after about 5 minutes

    So, finally got my iPhone from Fedex, and I go to use it, and it wont stay on for longer than 5-10 minutes. I've tried restoring it (first was doing it on my windows gaming machine, but now trying to do it from my mac, more trust in that).
    I've been looking for others with this issue and i'm not finding much for this new iPhone (saw some stuff after 3.1.3 came out), anyone else having this problem?
    Going to give Apple a call tomorrow and see what can be done, but would like to know in the meantime if anyone else has had the problem, or knows how to fix it.

    I have almost these exact same symptoms my iPhone 4 can be on and working fine then small little graphical glitches start to appear on the screen and then about 5 mins later it will normally lock up and then reset itself and then its just in a loop working fine for a little while then glitches then lock & reset. Once the glitches appear apps will crash most of the time and even apples own apps (safari, settings, camera, messages, weather) will load and then instantly crash back to the menu. I have tried restoring the phone from a backup and to original settings and none of these have worked. I have a appointment with apple for tuesday to hopefully fix or replace my phone as i described what was happening to both o2 (carrier in the UK) and apple. I really did not want to give my one back as it has not suffered from the other big problems reported. Hopefully apple can fix this as it looks like a software problem to me as the graphical glitches are not static on the screen say they show up while going through your bookmarks as you scroll down or up the glitches move with the screen. • Computer shuts down after 10-15 minutes

    My computer seems to work fine but when i turn it on I can only use it for 10 - 15 minutes before it shuts down.  It just goes black and turns off.  Could this be a problem with overheating?  The fan has been making a lot of noise and sounds like it might be out of balance.

    Are you using a desktop tower? If so , where are you placing the tower for use , is it able to breath properly? I know a lot of people who think 3 to 4 inches of space is enough for a CPU to breath but in the end it can cause some bad problems such as dust buildup and overheating.

  • Safari shuts down after 2-5 minutes of use

    hey guys, this just recently started for me about a week ago. Im just browsing the web on safari and then when loading a page, the rainbow circle thing comes on the screen and wont stop spinning. I've let it go for about 1/2 an hour and still nothing. Every time this happens I am forced to right click in the dock on safari and click force quit. I notice when I do this at the top it says "application not responding". Ive done the history clean, reset, cashe clean, restart computer but it still happens about 2-5 minutes into using the internet..any thoughts or help?
    Thanks alot

    Hi Andrew
    Sometimes 3rd party add-ons create the spinning wheel. Curious which version of Adobe Flash you are using? Go to your Finder: HD>Library>Internet Plug-ins. Click on Flash Player.plugin, then Command/I keys. In the info panel, which version is listed?
    Also, do you have any other 3rd party items installed in Safari?

  • My Macbook Pro shuts down after a few minutes of using.

    It shuts off after 10 minutes or less of using.  I can feel that my laptop is hot around the ports area and I am using almost every port.  Could that be the cause of the shut off  because of overheating?  My settings for battery and screen saver are turned off and I am plugged in with the power adapter.  Please help it's frustrating to do any work when this keeps happening.  Thanks in advance.

    It would help if you would indicate the exact model of your MBP and the OS you are using.
    Open Activity Monitor and look for any applications that may be using a lot of CPU resources.
    Install iStat pro and see what kind of temperatures your MBP is generating, especially the CPU.
    Please post back.
    Ciao.
