My computer thinks a Indesign CS5.5 file is open
My computer's power source failed and turned off while an Indesign CS5.5 file is open. Now trying to access the file, my computer (a mac) thinks it's still open. I'd like to either "close" down the file my computer thinks is open or delete the file (I have good copy on an external hard drive). Anyone have any advice? Thanks so much.
Is this document located on your computer, you're not working on it across a server where someone else might legitimately have it open? If that's the case, look in the folder where this document is located, see if there's a file name in that folder that starts with a tilde and ends with ".idlk". That's the lock file that keeps multiple users from opening the same document in a shared environment. If it's only you working on this, it should be safe to delete it, and you should then be able to open the file.

You can’t. You have upgrade or have whoever is send you files save as IDML. Don’t expect perfection.

Indesign CS5.5 won't open/start after a recent windows 8 update -- how to fix?
I just had a Windows 8 auto update happen and then my Indesign CS5.5 won't open/start. When I go to open it, it gets to the usual screen but then an error message shows up saying that Windows has encountered a problem and needs to shut the program down, and will notify me if a solution exists. What to do?
Do you see anything useful in the Event Viewer logs? Have you tired rebooting? Does it start if you log in with a different username?

InDesign CS5.5 crashing when opening some files
I have been trying solutions posted for a week and haven't found one that works. Would appreciate any help anyone has.
A single page InDesign file will makes it to the window where it is attempting to load fonts, then crashes. However, file will open on a different comuter running same software, same versions and updates.
I removed all fonts from the document and it will open, which seems to point to a font problem. Odd thing is, other documents can be opened that are using the same fonts.
Have tried:
Upgrading to os 10.8
Running ID icons update
Removing and re-installing fonts
Removing and re-installing font manager software (font agent pro v4)
Restarting InDesign and trashing prefs
Running smasher
Running font nuke
Reparing permissions on computer
Removing SING files
And probably a few other things
This issue is affecting some but not all computers in a 30 computer environment.
All computers are on the same os version (10.7.4) , same InDesign version (5.5), some are using Font Agent 4 and some are on 5.

Freezing while opening Indesign CS5.5 files
I'm having difficulty opening CS5.5 files. I designed them in CS3. Then I got CS5.5 and opened them in that and saved them.
Every time I try to reopen them they freeze up. More specifically, if I double click a CS5.5 Indesign file, it freezes up EVERY time.
If a drag it to the Indesign CS5.5 icon in my dock, it freezes up consistently every other time--asking me if I want to postpone the recovery.
My fonts libraries and caches are clean. I've run font nuke. I've installed Suitease Fusion 3.
I was thinking that this might have to do with Helvetica Neue conflicts. My document utilizes this font.
I've tured off open fonts automatically in fontbook and Suitcase Fusion 3.
Any ideas?As long as there's a problem in the recovery folder you will continue to have a problem on startup. Move the contents of the Recovery folder to a new location, like the desktop, and launch ID, then try to open the files using File > Open...
Other users report problems from time to time with CS3 and CS4 files opened in CS5 (and presumably 5.5), some of which do not show up until major editing has been completed. I recommend exporting the documents from CS3 to .inx and open the .inx in CS5.5. -
InDesign CS5 hangs when I open an INX or IDML file with a small table from InDesign CS4
In CS4, the table has red dots indicating that text does not fit in some of the cells. InDesign CS5 just hangs if I try to open an INX or IDML file created in CS4. This also happens if I try to "place" a tagged text file containing the table.

OK, I submitted the bug to Adobe via http://adobe.com/go/wish but I could not find a way to upload files. Without the data I don't think anyone will be able duplicate the problem.
Hmm.... I cannot figure out where to attach a file here either. I'll insert the tagged text directly. It was exported from a CS4 document.

INDESIGN CS5 .SWF files to large
So, I thought with Indesign CS5 it would be a great idea to do a website with full idesign. This was working great until I realized that as i exported to a .SWF it was 49.9mb. Now i know that this is a large website (almost 70+) pages long. But is there any advice anyone can give me to shrink the file size or was it a bad idea to begin a website in INdesign right now. I know that using flash and .css and all that is the traditional way of doing a website but at the same time I don't like messing with all that code and thought this would be a great way to build a website.
ANY help would be great because i can't afford to have a 3 and a half minute download time on a website.

JustinI think I may have responded to this in the community help section, but I'll repeat what I said there. InDesign has some impressive Flash capabilities but using it to create an entire website....no, not a good idea at all.
The size of the SWF files is a major issue and they are quite simply not suitable for this purpose. Additionally, an entire website in Flash is an SEO nightmare so it won't matter how long it takes to load since nobody is likely to find it.
Flash should be used judiciously on the web. In fact, I never use it. All that said, the only advice I can offer if you decide to ignore the rest of it, is to export to FLA, open it in Flash Professional and finish it up there.

InDesign Cs5 keep crashing when open this file
Hi guys,
I am back for another problem with my InDesign. It's been a while since my last problem...
Right now I'm facing a new problem and I hope you guys can fix this with me..
So the problem is that just on this file.. Everytime I try to open it, it just crash. But it is fine when I open other files. Yesterday it was fine when I export as PDF, and even package the file. This morning when I tried to open it, it just crash...
The solutions I tried :

I was trying to export it as .idml and the program crash, so maybe it says file cannot be open because missing maybe because it wasn't finish to export and got crash. Maybe that is why I can't open it.
well the thing is that my work InDesign Cs5 is bootleg (boo! i know )
and i was once told not to update them. so i never update until now..
unless you have a thread where i can read the manual how to update bootleg?

I'm having a problem with a roughly 30 page indesign cs5 document - on opening it crashes within a couple of seconds. In the windows 7 (64bit) error log, it gives me:

Naturally we of course charge and it costs only 99, no-cure, no-pay. It does not get any better than that. Do you know how much time I spent recovering this customers file? More than an hour. It often takes "testing" page-by-page, by deleting a page, re-saving and repeating this step each time, from the recovered file in the 'intermediate layout format,' as just one 'for example' story from the trenches. Each job has generally something interesting and these files from the OP were tiny compared to some of the huge jobs we have to download, deal with and re-upload. InDesign CS5.5 freezing upon opening new document Lion 10.7.3?
Hi there,
When launching CS5.5 InDesign, I select 'New document'. After it is setup (1-2 seconds), it freezes and InDesign is non functional and you have to force quit.
My console log states:
CFURLCreateWithBytes was passed these invalid URLBytes: ‘/Applications/Adobe InDesign CS5.5/Adobe InDesign CS5.5.app/Contents/Frameworks’ (a file system path instead of an URL string). The URL created will not work with most file URL functions. CFURLCreateFromFileSystemRepresentation should be used instead.
The freeze occurs in the admin account and logged in domain user.
I have tried updating InDesign- nothing.
Uninstalling through Adobe uninstaller and reinstalling- nothing.
Not using plugins. We are using Extensis Universal Type Client but I wuit it and turned off the Core to see if that helps- nothing.
Ive repair permissions- nothing
Rebooted- nothing
I ended up upgrading to CS6 and had no problems. I would like to resolve this CS5.5 issue though. Any help?I copied Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II/Datastore to the desktop and deleted it from that directory. Did the same for the Mark II folder (Solution 2)
-Failing that the first time, I uninstall/reinstall and didnt bother to update, which is why you see the original InDesign. I'll try and update InDesign and move to 10.7.4 to see if that does anything. My
Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II/Datastore does not currently have these folders because I took them out. Maybe I'll run the crash report again and post it. I have to wait for the designer to finish for the day. I'll update possibly tomorrow.

InDesign CS5.5 freezes upon opening
As soon as i open InDesign CS5.5 on my Mac OS X 10.9.2 and try to start a document it freezes and the mouse turns into the colour wheel. It will continue to stay like that until I force quit the application. It used to happen in a trial version of InDesign CS5. I have updated my computer and reinstalled the application but it still continues to freeze. What can I do to fix it and is it an InDesign problem or a problem on my Mac?

InDesign CS5.5 won't open in OS X 10.10
I just installed Yosemite and hadn't had any troubles with anything until I tried to open InDesign CS5.5. It keeps telling me, "To open “Adobe InDesign CS5.5.app” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime." I've searched for Java SE 6 and cannot find a way to download it. I downloaded Java 8, but the program is still not opening and I still get the warning dialog. I have work I need to get done and cannot work on till this is fixed. Any help is appreciated.

InDesign CS5.5 Crashing After Opening a File
Hello,
After working on a file for a good amount of time in InDesign, the program crashed. I tried to reopen the file and after making a change or two it will crash again. It has progressed to do this continously, and at points freezing my whole system. I'm currently working on a file that is around 7MB, and is around 150 pages long. I do use several Master Pages, and have a Table of Contents within this document. The issue developed after I updated my Table of Contents.
I am running a Windows 7 (Home Premium) machine with 64-bit Operating System, on a HP G62.
I also attempted to run the file off of my WD My Passport (1GB) thinking it could have been my hard drive, but it still crashed.
The CS5.5 version I have is the Student and Teacher version, and I have had it since December 2011. I also check all of my other Adobe programs and they seem to be working fine. I attempted to check if InDesign was updated since it is on automatic updating and I had no luck since it crashed again.
I really need to get this issue solved quickly, since I use this program on a daily basis for work and an internship.

I just wanted to let you know I think I fixed the problem. For some reason the file apparently became corrupt. Thanks to Dropbox and it's restorations I figured out that the last time I saved or the last work period that Dropbox has on account something happened. So I restored the file to the one before and it seems to be working fine. I have no clue what happened, but I'll just have to redo the work I lost. It also seems that some of my other InDesign files are working fine, which I should have checked before.
