My computer tries to boot, then dies.

HELP ME!Well, I just bought a KM2M mobo, and put all my stuff together, and when I pushed the power button, everything came to life, except it only lasted for about three seconds. Not even enough time for the video to show. I keep trying to think of ways to fix it, and then tried turning it on without the processor, and then it went on, and stayed on. I know the mobo isn't bad, so I think it is either the processor, or the power supply, because the power supply could be too weak to power my proc and everything else, or my processor is just fried. Any and all help would be appriciated.

Wow, it sounds like you have bad luck with installing heatsinks and processors. From that post it sounds like you indeed fried another CPU. This, of course, isn't covered by the warranty. I advise you find a new one, a good 3 prong heatsink, and take your time installing this one. If possible try a second CPU in the motherboard just to check that the motherboard is ok before you buy another new CPU.

  • I have a macbook pro 13" 2011, When my computer boots I get code on my boot up screen and then my computer shuts off and then restarts. Its an endless loop, as my computer tries to boot up.

I have a Macbook Pro 13", that was purchased in 2010-2011. So randomly yesterday, when I boot up my computer I got to the boot screen, then code popped up on my screen. ** I have attached an image of the code below.** But after the code pops up, my computer shuts down, and tries to boot up again. This is an endless loop and doesn't get passed the boot screen. The code shows up everytime.
I personally believe this might be a software issue and not a hardware. Please feel free to shoot out any ideas or a translation of what the code is referring to.
    THINGS I HAVE ALREADY DONE:
    - Reset the PRAM by holding CMD+Option+P+R
    - Gone into Safemode and tired to verify the Harddrive.
    - Please don't comment saying, "take out the battery." , "hold the power button for.." , None of that sh#* works.

What happens if you boot holding the command S keys down?
If it stays running in single user mode
    try the command
    fsck -fy
You could try holding the option key on bootup, to see if presents you with a startup disk however
It looks as if you need to reistall the OS.

I ran into a similar problem on my Dell machine. I was able to work around the problem by going into the BIOS options and disabling booting from USB mass storage devices. Machine boots without problem now.

  • Computer tries to boot but then turns off

I had to force shut down my computer, now it won't come back on. It comes on, and gives me a spinning wheel and a progress bar across the bottom.  The bar doesn't get very far and then the computer just turns off.  Tried to start in safe mofe and it did the same thing.  Was on for a while and then just turned off.  Not sure what to do.  Please help!

The automatic fsck is trying to repair a corruption problem with the drive and failing.
Good news, it sounds like a software problem and less likely a hardware one, however I suspect the Macintsh HD partiton which holds OS X, programs and your files will have to be erased.
If you don't have a couple of backups of your data off the machine (don't only trust TimeMachine because you can't verify it and it can restore crap) then you may need to do this first.
.Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Then run through these steps and depending how far you get...depends if you do the above or if it will boot enough you can grab files manually to a storage drive before further action.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
    Most commonly used backup methods
If this is too much for you, then there are local PC/Mac software repair shops that also do data recovery as long as you didn't use Filevault or encryption.

  • Satellite M45-S265 tries to start then dies

I have a M45-S265 and when I turn it on the light comes on (on the switch), the fan comes on then it just dies. I tried taking the battery out and it worked once then froze. Kept trying over a period of a week, same result, came back after a week, with the battery in and it started then froze again.
I have no idea if this could a faulty switch or what! The fact that it has frozen on the couple of occasions it actually has started has me confused!

    Hi
Hmm. First of all check if you AC adaptor is ok and if its connected properly to the notebook. You should ensure that AC adaptor provides power to the notebook.
As next step you should check if its not a software issue. In such case you should try to boot from the Recovery disk.
If its not possible to reinstall the OS using such disk then a hardware problem could be possible.
In such case the RAM modules should be checked. Maybe one of the modules or both RAM modules are faulty and therefore the notebook does not run as it should.
Last but not least if you dont have enough resources to perform such notebook test then a notebook technician should be contacted.

  • After installing mavericks my computer no longer boots. I had 10.6.8. I've been told I need to zero my hard drive. Is that the same as erasing? Is zeroing absolutely necessary? If u zero will I have any OS at all?

My MacBook is mid 2010 or 2011 and was running 10.6.8. After installing mavericks my computer tries to boot, says it has to restart and that circle goes on and on. Disk utilities says everything is running okay and reinstalling mavericks twice didn't help. I was told my hard drive needs to be zeroed. How is that different from erasing and is it necessary as opposed to erasing? After I back up on an external drive (I know I should have done that before hehe) and erase or zero, what will happen to my operating system? Will I have the ability to reinstall mavericks or do I need to out a copy of it on the external hard drive? I'm wondering this because I don't know if my computer will be running snow leopard or anything at all after I erase or zero since I'm not entirely sure what those terms entail. Thanks for any help!

    Ooops.
I upgraded my 10.6.8 system to 10.7.5. ..No problem, but my practice is to connect an ESATA dock to my macpro. install to the drive in the doc, use migration assistant to migrate my data and apps.   use the os in the doc for 2 weeks, if no issue then I delete the OS partiton in my Internal System Drive, do a carbon copy clone to the internal drive.
I just did the similar to upgrade to mavericks.   I installed to a new hardrive in my docking station.   (black widow esata dock).  I noticed 10.9.1 is slow stayed with 10.7.5 as my operating system.  now and then I would boot 10.9.1 fire up the console utility and fix the issues that made it slow....
Now I am at the "burn in stage" mavericks is now running fast and stable.   I'll use all my apps and if it does not break with the applications I run I will eventaully cc my 10.7.5 OS drive to the docking station, file the drive away.. and take my 10.9.1 drive in the doc and cc it to my internal system drive.
I always wipe out a partion when installing a new OS.  Zeroing out is a bit more thorough, you will know if your drive is junk... but it's overkill for me.
    I figured repartion is ok.
I'm 2 weeks away from doing a carbon copy clone from my 10.9.1 os drive in my dock to my internal drive.
by the way.. I am running Mavericks on a 8 core macpro 2,1.  I have a modified bootloader that has an arbitration layer EFI32 to/from EFI64 emulated.
    pretty cool.
And from new system standards, the old macpro stacks up pretty well:

  • Installing Windows 7 on my bootcamp partition (mid-2009 mac book pro with mountain lion) My computer won't boot from the Windows 7 Install DVD.

    Hello,
I have been trying to install Windows 7 on my macbook pro (mid 2009, MBP53). I have successfully created a bootcamp partition using the assistant. When the computer tries to boot from the windows 7 install dvd, the screen is just black. The dvd spins for a bit, then stops and the computer is just black (no blinking cursor).
Any advice would be very appreciated.
    Thanks.

What kind of an install DVD are you using for Windows?
You can use any DVDs that are hardware specific. Only the full non-hardware soecific DVDs work on the Mac.

  • 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011.takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get

    Hello All,
I have a 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011. The past few weeks, it has been getting increasingly difficult to get on my computer. It takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get to the dark gray log-in screen. Even when I finally get logged in to start working, thinking it would be okay now, it shuts down randomly.
I've ruled out the possibility of a software problem because I've just done a clean re-install of Mac OS X Mavericks on my computer just yesterday.
I did upgrade the RAM recently, about a month and a half ago, from 4GB to 16GB, I went to the apple store four days after that upgrade to have them do a hardware test, and clean the inside of my laptop, which helped with previous heat issues. When they did the hardware test, the hardware was all registered as fine from their system.
I've tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, and doing the internet recovery hardware test, but to no avail. I thought I could at least find out what parts needed to be replaced from the hardware test but it seems that when the hardware test is almost finished, the computer just shuts down, So I am unable to see the results.
My computer is also having battery issues, under battery condition, it says "replace now," parts have been ordered, waiting for arrival. But if the battery health is low, it should still boot up fine, it would just hold a significantly less charge.
Could this be a hard drive issue?
Has anyone had similar symptoms and how was it resolved?
Does anyone know what I can do to alleviate this issue?
I haven't had time to take it to Apple because I'm currently taking a 21 credit semester academically. I'm an art and design student so my computer is basically the bane of my existence. Help! Any constructive advice is welcomed!
Thank you so much for your input!

  • Help! Computer turns on but then will not boot up - Please Help!

I have no idea what happened to my Apple. Someone please help me. My powerbook currently is running on no battery (recall victim) and now the entire computer is no longer functioning at all. I installed iTunes 7.0 and then the trouble began. I had to restart the computer, so I did that and then the computer just wont boot up. It goes to the grey screen which shows the Apple symbol and occurs right before my log in then just continues to read. The green light for the battery is function and nothing at all is working. The computer simply will not boot up, I have tried unplugging it for the night and then rebooting it and nothing. Please someone help, what has went wrong?

You mentioned in your other thread that you had trouble with a cpu(0) hardware error trying to use the hardware test disk. Is this the hardware test disk which came with that particular machine? If not, then you need to find the original hardware test disk that came with that machine. If the restore disks that say 12" Powerbook include the words hardware test, use those instead and follow these directions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86287
If you are using the correct hardware test disk and you get a cpu(0) error using it, then the machine has a hardware problem.

Have you tried booting into the Recovery HD and running Disk Utility to see if anything needs fixing on the HD. Restart holding down Command+r and once it hopefully boots select Disk Utility>Repair Disk. If anything gets fixed click on repair disk again until you get a clean pass. Try restarting as normal from the Apple menu once done.
Do you have backup to restore from if it proves to be the Mac has a hardware fault?

    MacBook Air, Mid2013, MacOS 10.9.2
I tried to erase the HD of my Mac; Apple Support suggested to restart the computer pressing cmd + R, then select "Utility Disk", then Mac HD, and choose "Erase", the option "Security Options" should be available, but it was not
I was able to erase the disk and reinstall the OS but not to choose the option to overwrite the disk, as the official Apple Support said previously.
I called again them, this time I was said that with an SSD disk the security option (overwrite the disk) is not available, and that is it, no way out; and they added very kindly that if I sell my Mac, the buyer could bring it to a Tech Center and they could eventually recover the data on it, even though this may be expensive
Is there anyone that has any suggestion to protect the data before selling a Mac; the guys at Apple Official Support did not seem very concerned about this

I was unable to access the laptop last night to create a new user; however my client would perfer not to try a second account since that would make it unusable for him while we test the second profile.
Also John Sophos was installed after this started to verify that it was not a virus/malware (I know pointless step but it has happened to me before) so I don't think that is the problem

This is a part of the larger MacBook Pro connectivity issue. There are several related threads dealing with the MBP's networking problems. If your unit is suffering from this type of difficulty, good luck ... (or a long ethernet cable)
(PS Everybody please make noise on this one so apple comes up with a solution.)
