My computer turns on, but the screen is blank. The backlight turns on, but the screen is still black. HELP!
My computer turns on and the light at the botton is on, but the screen is blank. I have tried pressing every button, turning it on/off, and also pressing the mouspad.
I have the same problem, the start up sound plays through the speakers but nothing on the screen

Claire, please post your machine specs as requested. There are some variants of the MBP with specific hardware issues. Example: the older "silver key" MBPs with 2.2Ghz and faster processors can have a defective video chipset that produces a black screen or distorted video. That problem is covered under an Apple program that will fix this at no cost to you if you computer is that model.
Do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and, in the resulting window, click the "More Info..." button. That launches System Profiler for you. The first screen looks like this:
The second line, "Model Identifier" (or "Machine Model" if you are running OS10.4) precisely identifies your MBP variant. Post that, and include it in your equipment info in your profile for future posts. That means people don't have to ask, and you get faster help that is targeted to your specific model. Saves everybody a bunch of keystrokes and you get better advice. -
Ipod nano 5th gen - works fine when plugged in either to wall or computer and appears to be fully charged but as soon as it is unplugged screen goes blank and will not start - is the battery shot?
Yes, your battery is likely toast and in need of replacement. Not much else for troubleshooting here. Sorry.

When I turn my ipod on the normal start up screen appears with the apple logo in the middle, but then after a few seconds the screen goes blank and it turns itself off. It was working fine the other day. I even charged it overnight to make sure that it wasnt because it was out of battery. I dont know what to do, it has over 600 songs on it and around 300 photos, I know that the memory isnt full because I checked the other day and it said I had around 1GB left. I cant do anything on at all because the screen just goes blank and then turns itself off. Please help, thank you
Well, I strongly suspect that a gig isn't quite enough "extra" storage to allow operation.
However, first, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. -
My iPad3 has suddenly stopped working, it won't charge up and the screen is blank I have tried to reboot the device by holding the top and home buttons but I don't even get the Apple logo. any advice?
Plug it into the charger/wall socket and let it charge for at least an hour. It just might start charging. If you have already tried charging it for a fair amount of time and it didn't work, try restoring the device with iTunes.

When restoring to factory defaults/new iPod fails to resolve a problem that indicates a hardware problem an an appointent at the Genus Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I updated my ipad mini to iOS 6.1.2 and have not been able to udate my apps in the AppStore since. It say I have updates available but the page remains blank. I have tried switching the unit off and on and to no avail. Can anyone help?
Try this:
1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo. -

I want to achieve at least one of two things: either set New Tabs to open with Google automatically; or at least, to have Google pinned to the New Tab page. (Google is my home page.) When a new page opens, all the images are blank. I've read through the Help pages & tried various things. I've tried dragging Google from the Bookmarks to the New Tab, but this only opens Google. I've tried clicking on the blank images, but nothing happens. I've toggled the blank images off for now, so at least I don't need to look at them. I am doing a university course online, so efficiency is really important to me! Those extra clicks really add up & distract!... Thanks in advance :)

I need help with troubleshooting for flashing "special characters" screen on my MacBook with Snow Leopard. The screen flashes regardless of what app is on; it is as if it is trying to load but it does not. Is there a duplicate or conflicting file in the system that should be deleted? Where would it be?

Consuelo CorretjerUmmm, nope. All due respects, this problem cropped up suddenly, at about the same time, for multiple users, on different laptop types. Probability of all this happening at once due to simultaneous hardware failures is much lower than if it was caused by say a software update not playing well with something (a piece of 3rd party software, etc). I'm having the same exact problem, I have put a new battery in, same thing happens.
This is similar to 3 or so years ago when widgets were first introduced, laptop battey lifes dropped to about 1/3 and the machines heated up. General consensus was it must be hardware, well no it was software, and a software fix took care of it. I'm hoping someone figures this out soon...

1. When you are done Restoring Firmware, does iTunes show your iPhone's information. If yes then your iPhone is ON and working. Next step is to Reset, like you tried, but do it again, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone restarts, usually less than 15 seconds. If still no screen, hold iPhone in bright light and look at screen, is an image there? If yes, you have a "No Backlight Problem".
2. If still no image, but you have confirmed iPhone is on with iTunes or switching Vibrate Switch and getting vibration. Then take iPhone to Apple and ask Genius to reconnect the Flex Cable #1 LCD Display Flex to the Logic Board. Before opening and during all repairs it is best if the iPhone 3GS is OFF. -

Screen not blanking properly (Backlight doesn't turn off)
I've been facing a weird problem lately. Whenever I leave my laptop on for a while when I'm logged on in X (I use KDE), the screen turns off after 10 minutes. All well and good. But whenever the laptop idle when logged on to a virtual console, after 15 minuites of idling, the display blanks, but the backlight stays on. The display becomes a wall of white. Is there any way to make the backlight switch off as well along with the screen blanking? I'm not using pm-utils or acpid to manage power on the virtual console right now. I'm using the logind.conf defaults.
For future reference, don't assume that people will see your signature. Not only do most people disregard signatures, but there is the ability to turn off the signatures in your user settings.

[ZEN 8GB] Screen goes blank everytime i turn on pla
hi, today as i was listening to music, the player suddenly froze and crashed. I used a pin to press the reset button to turn it off.
But once i turned the player back on, the player will always rebuild memory and then the screen will go blank, and the only way to turn it off would be to use the reset button.
I can only access the recovery menu and I've tried cleaning up the player, reloading the firmware, formatting the player and all hasnt worked. Everytime i try to install the firmware it always fails at the end.
Any solutions, I've just sent a email to creative, and awaiting reply.
I had my ZEN for over a year now and its been kept in brilliant condition with case and screen protection, so i doubt its hardware failureHi Channi3,

If your iPhone was hacked to be unlocked to use with any carrier's SIM card, you just re-locked the iPhone to the carrier the iPhone was sold as carrier locked when new.
