My computer turns on but then immediately shuts down.

It seems my computer turned itself off in the middle of the night. This morning, when I tried turning it on, it wouldn't leave the white initial screen with the apple logo and the waiting sign so I manually shut it down. I waited a couple of minutes before doing so. Then I turned it back on again and the same thing happened. The third time I turned it on, the white screen appeared and then it shut down on its own! Next time I did the same thing and it took less time before shutting down on its own.
My computer is connected to the energy source. It's not connected directly to the wall, there is a no-break with a very weak battery and that's connected to the power source.
My concern is that there was very little memory left on my computer and I was downloading more movies.
It the problem coming from my computer or is it the energy source?

Try connecting the plug directly to an outlet. That should determine whether it is the energy source or not.
If the same, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

While on Safari I was into my Facebook account. I checked off something, not sure what the **** it was, but it immediately shut down my Facebook. I'm able to access FB when on another computer or my guest acct. How do I get into my FB acct on Safari again? Each time I type in "facebook", it will not load.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click Details then type facebook in the search field then remove all facebook related items.
Now empty the Safari cache. Press Command + Option + E on your keyboard.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try accessing your Facebook page.
If that didn't help, click History from the Safari menu bar then click Clear History.
Quit and relaunch Safari and try Facebook again.

When i plugin my iPhone 4s to the mac, pc o wall, it starts charging, but then it shuts down.
I tried restoring, reseting, putting in DFU mode, everything.
But it keeps doing the same thing, sometimes it shuts down exactly when i plug it in.
A friend told me it may be something electric with the connector.
Im from Argentina, but my aut is travelling to the US this friday, can she take it to the Apple Store and find a solution ???

    Hi,
If you are able to sign in at https://supportprofile.apple.com/ with the Apple ID that you did use to register your iPhone, you shall be able to access the information regarding your device and its own warranty.
If your iPhone is not yet registered, you can register it by entering its serial number on your profile.
Then, you shall also be able to automatically contact Apple and report the problem. They might even send you another iPhone by mail and provide you with an empty box to return the problematic one.
    Hope this help.

  • IMac shut down unexpectedly. I tried to restart and it did for a bit, then immediately shut down again.  I've had it for 3 years and this is the first problem. I can't turn it on to give specs.  Any suggestions?

I purchased an iMac approx 3 years ago.  We keep it on almost all the time, however the other night we noticed it was off.  We did not shut it off as we were downstairs watching a movie.  I unplugged the cord, waited 10 to 15 seconds, plugged it back in, wait for a few more seconds and turned it on.  It started up and was almost done booting.  Then it shut down again and I have only gotten it to attempt to turn on.  (the fan kicks in for about 2 seconds and then nothing) Any suggestions?

Try that process of resetting the SMC two or three more times, sometimes it takes more than once. if that doesnt work I could only suggest making an appointment and hauling it in for service.

  • Computer can restart but will not shut down

    Hello All,
I have an iMac 17-inch Late 2006 model which is part of a computer lab which will not shut down completely. When I select shut down from the menu the computer will get to the blue screen and a spinning gear icon will appear. After a little while it will stop moving and just sits there. I have left the computer in this state over night and it does not finish shutting off. Only by holding the power button does it ever finish shutting down. It will however sleep and restart without any problems. The restart takes a little while but it does work. All of the other computers in the lab do not demonstrate this issue.
Things I have done in an attempt to fix this problem:
    1. Reimaged computer from known good computer after zeroing the disk
    2. Repaired disk
    3. Repaired Permissions
    4. Deleted login preferences from all user folders as well as library folder
    5. Reset SMC and PRAM
As I had noted earlier this machine is part of a lab in which none of the other computers which were imaged from the same base image are showing this issue. If you have any ideas at all I would love to hear them.
Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions that you may have.
    ANotti

I was looking in the console logs earlier and they are a real pain to parse but here is a section. I told the computer to shutdown at 13:13 for sake of convenience with locating the associated entries. Sadly comparing the notes in its log against a computer sitting besides it has yielded basically identical notation. I posted what I believe to be the shutdown sequence. If you see something that I have missed let me know.

How do I fix this problem? I use the internet to pay bills. The only web bowser I currently have is foxfire and it says that it isn't secure.

I strongly suggest you copy/paste your question to move it to the Safari forums. There are some amazing helpers there who are adept at reading Safari crash logs, and can probably get you going faster than posting here, which is more of a hardware forum.

  • HACKED! Someone just took control of my cursor while I was on the Internet! They started to open files and search through stuff but I immediately shut down my computer! I have been hacked and I need to know how to fix my problem???

I was watching a YouTube video when my cursor suddenly started to control itself. I had screen sharing on and remote login etc. but I have disabled all of them! I'm writing this from my IPhone because I refuse to go back online with my MacBook Pro until I know I won't be hacked again! Please inform me on my best options and where my problem might be stemming from! If it helps I will inform you that I do stream illegal Tv-Shows online and download music torrents, I'm fussing that's why all of this happened! I need to know if I can disinfect my Mac or if ill have to completely wipe it and restore it? Thanks!

There are several possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps until it's resolved.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article.
    2. Reset the System Management Controller.
    3. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    4. A swollen battery in a MacBook Pro or Air can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced.
    5. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built in trackpad of a MacBook to  behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    6. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    7. If none of the above applies, or if you have good reason to think your computer is being controlled remotely, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi, disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop immediately, you should suspect an intrusion.

  • Help! Computer turns on but then will not boot up - Please Help!

I have no idea what happened to my Apple. Someone please help me. My powerbook currently is running on no battery (recall victim) and now the entire computer is no longer functioning at all. I installed iTunes 7.0 and then the trouble began. I had to restart the computer, so I did that and then the computer just wont boot up. It goes to the grey screen which shows the Apple symbol and occurs right before my log in then just continues to read. The green light for the battery is function and nothing at all is working. The computer simply will not boot up, I have tried unplugging it for the night and then rebooting it and nothing. Please someone help, what has went wrong?

You mentioned in your other thread that you had trouble with a cpu(0) hardware error trying to use the hardware test disk. Is this the hardware test disk which came with that particular machine? If not, then you need to find the original hardware test disk that came with that machine. If the restore disks that say 12" Powerbook include the words hardware test, use those instead and follow these directions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86287
If you are using the correct hardware test disk and you get a cpu(0) error using it, then the machine has a hardware problem.

  • Premiere Pro Project loads then immediately shuts down

I have a large Premiere Pro CS4 project which is completed and has written a standard DL DVD but I now wish to incorporate it into a Bluray DVD.  I have had numerous problems doing this but the system which has worked well so far is to load the PP project, export each sequence to the HD 1080 PAL 25fps format and then create a new Encore project, importing assets as I go.  So far so good.  I have completed a couple of other projects using this method and all goes well.
The current problem is I had done three sequences of a project (there are 6) and I needed to go out and so I stopped and let the machine encode those three before going on.  Unfortunately I had begun exporting the fourth sequence and I attempted to cancel it but the machine ended up in a hopeless knot.  Eventually I had to kill PP and Media Encoder and reboot the machine.  I had to delete the preferences in Media Encoder to get it going, but it then worked and all three are now encoded.  The fourth (which was in progress but cancelled) just disappeared - it was not saved in the MEdia Encoders queue and so that is what I expected.
This morning I attempted to load the pp project again and it loaded pp, then loaded the project but just as the yellow bar got to the end of the load sequence (no sub-windows up at all yet) it terminated pp with no messages.  I tried again - same result.  I had a generational backup and so I went back one version - same result.  I cleaned the cache and deleted all the "Encoded Files" folders.  No different.  I can load other projects, and in fact the machine is now encoding another project successfully.
How do I get my project to load?
The machine is a 64bit I7-950 running Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate - it has 8gb of memory and 3.5tb of disk in a raid 5 Format

I have solved my own problem.
I had to delete User\Users\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files myself - Cleaning the cache did not do it completely.
Now I have restored the latest version and it works just fine.

  • On windows PC, itunes starts up then immediately shuts down

Not sure why this happened today, so anybody have a fix for this issue?

Try holding down CTRL+SHIFT immediately after clicking the iTunes icon. Keep holding until you get this dialog box. If you don't get this try again.
You may find that if iTunes opens in safe mode you can close it and then reopen normally.

  • Does not start, but when I shut down the computer then the browser shows up right before sytem shuts down.

I am having problems with Firefox. When I click on the shortcut, or the .exe file nothing happens. I check task manager to see if it is running and it does not show Firefox is running.
But when I shut down the computer then the browser shows up right before the computer shuts down. I have tried starting the browser in safe mode and the same thing happens. I cannot give any troubleshooting info because the browser is not visible for me to click on help or any other button.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the [[Uninstall Firefox from your computer#w_uninstall-firefox|Uninstall Firefox]] article.
'''IMPORTANT:''' On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do '''not''' check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox [[Profiles|user profile data]] will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
    * '''(On 32-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox''
    * '''(On 64-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox''
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
