My computer will not boot up from disc

Help i am having issues booting up my laptop, it won't even boot up from a disc what do I need to do??

It might be worth resetting the bios defaults as follows.
Shut down the notebook. Tap away at the esc key as soon as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu, then select f10 to enter the Bios Menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
If the above fails to help, open the Bios Menu again and look under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab - should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory. Post back with the details of any error messages.

iMac 27 inch i7 OSX Lion will not boot up from Hard Disc on cold start, and cannot find wifi hardware in the machine. Restart and everything is fine. I have two machine and they behave the same. Software or hardware problem?

First of all, try a hard restart; making sure no disks are in the slot, unplug everything from your computer (keyboards, mice, etc.) and then unplug the computer itself. Leave it unplugged for a minute or two, then plug it back in and boot it up.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the option-key on your keyboard. The screen should show a choice of which disk drive to boot from. Choose your usual drive.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the shift-key on your keyboard. It should take a while for it to boot up, as it is destroying all connections to sources that may contain a virus.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down keys "option-command-P-R" until you hear the startup tone a second time.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the C-key. Make sure you have inserted the installation disk before doing this step.
If that fails, reboot it while holding down the command-key and the R-key.
If that fails, please reply to this and let me know.

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitiion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Permissions.
Re-install if that doesn't work.

Computer Will Not Boot

My computer will not boot and it will not enter Safe Mode. I ran the Memory Diagnostic test and it shows that I have a hardware problem. I also tried to restore my computer to an earlier time but it showed an error. I have 1GB or RAM and recently it keeps changing from 512MB to 1023MB. Please help.
Specs (that I know of)
1GB RAM
INTEL CORE 2 DUO 2.43GHz (I'm not sure)
Gigabyte motherboard

try to make shour that the ram is snug and in all th way make shour NOT to jam them in and dont leve a empty slot in betwen them if there craced be shore not to use the in any in the computer check the mother bords slots and the pins on the ram and make shour that theres no dust stuck in there . thats all i can think of hope it works out for u. :^)

HP pavilion slimline s3200n will recognize the DVD drive but it will not boot up from the drive

Hi,
Try hitting the escape button from boot up. It normally gives you the boot options where you can select the DVD drive.
If you can't get into the boot options, try getting into the bios with F10 and change boot order options.

Do you have a compatible OSX installed on this 'storage' HDD? If not, it will not boot your MBP.

Help needed on startup. My computer will not boot from the CD drive!!!

Problem with iMac G3 333, the Message on the screen states: "The System Software on the starup disk only functions on the media, not if copied to another drive." Like a fool, I copied the system folder from the original system software 9.2.2 on to the iMac. System disk which is not a complete system folder when used on the computer. I have searched the Internet, but can not find an answer. I have tried everything, holding down the C key, "Delete, Opition, Apple key, shift" holding the mouse down on startup, various combinations of other keys, etc. The CD starts to spin, but the computer switches to the hard drive and the message above returns. Yes, I have tried both System Softwares a number of times. The C key will not boot up the CD drive and the harddrive always boots with the original message. I need to get the CD drive to boot so I can reloaded tge original software. Do you know anything about booting the CD drive using Firmware? Jim

I am new to Macs and have bought a 13" Macbook Pro and a IMac 21.5" 14 months ago. I have only used the Macbook pro about 15-20 times and after upgrading to Maverick it will not boot up. I get the white screen and a spinning circle. I have tried Disk utility repair and even re-installing the OSX, but it says disk locked. I do not recall setting any password protections or passwords. I now have a brick with a lit up Apple logo. If anyone knows how I can bypass the disk lock error or reset the laptop, please let me know. This has not been a pleasant conversion from PC's. Even my IMac blacks out from time to time and both happened right after my factory warranty expired.

The internal drive is malfunctioning. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

I want to wipe iBook of it's content, but it will not boot up from DVD

Can someone tell me how I clear off the content of iBook and install the basic set of the applications? I have the original OS 9 disks but they will not boot up with these. I have gradually upgraded the OS so I don't have disks to match 10.4.11.

No problem; I usually answer good questions already solved. (It's for the search engine.) Here's how to wipe a corporate or government ATA hard drive.
Should you be concerned about spies, industrial and foreign, or even you own personal information, there is a standard method of erasing ATA disks that contain government classified information. Most ATA disks have it built in (and is a concern when purchasing computers for classified research). It's extreme, but sometimes necessary: information otherwise remains stored on 'bad' blocks, &c.
At one time, only the DOS program HDDerase activated the secure erase in ROM. For Mac users, the Linux program 'hdparm' (which has other uses) will do this from a Live Linux distribution on CD (unless you can boot a USB Flash Drive).'Darwin' might have it.

My computer, when powered up gets stuck on a blue screen and will not boot up. I have restarted & held down the shift button for safe mode & it goes to a white screen with a grey apple icon but will not move past this screen. How do I get the computer to boot up?

Sounds like your system is hosed. Try [repairing the hard drive with Disk Utility|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417]. Of course, from the sounds of it, even if you get the drive repaired, it may not fix the problems with your system.
Do you have backups? If not, your only priority at the moment should be to figure out how to back up your data, or what data may still be intact if your drive is badly damaged. If you have another Mac, the easiest way to do this will be to boot the machine into [FireWire target mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661] and copy whatever data you can.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read that you are interested in re-install the operating system back on your HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14-b109wm Sleekbook. Try performing a hard reset.
When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.

Mini will not boot disks from combo drive

Mini was having "issues." Thought I would do a clean install to correct all problems. When I insert OSX install disk and hold "C" key the computer tries to boot from the disk. The grey screen and apple logo apear. But instead of then going to the little spinning grey bars and booting to the disk, the grey apple shifts to the right and a some trash appears to the right of the logo, the computer freezes.
I have run the computer in terminal mode and run disks on the optical drive just fine.
It simply will not boot off of a disk in the optical drive.

Try booting into safemode by holding down shift key. Sometimes it does take up to 5 minutes to boot into safemode but sometimes your atleast able to uses your computer as a temporary fix. If you can't boot into safemode it sound's like your hard drive has failed, in that case you would need to contact apple for a repair.
