I have downloaded itunes onto new laptop that has windows vista all the music is stored on an external hard drive. When i plug in the hard drive it no longer finds automatically the music file and runs it as it did on my old pc with windows xp. I have changed the location to find the music in itunes but no luck. When you say "when i double click on my itunes files it just opens up this list of music." it doesn't mean anything to me. You need to explain clearly, remember I only know what you tell me.
I need to understand how you have things set up and if you had you iTunes library database on the external drive or the c: drive. That is the iTunes folder containing iTunes library.itl.
What do you see when you open iTunes on the new PC, are your music files there. If not, every time you play a track it gets added to itUnes so you should at least have some files in your library.
What problem are you trying to solve? Is just getting the tracks into your iTunes library, or are you also concerned about ratings, count and playlists from the old PC. If so do you still have access to the old PC?

There are a number of posts related to access issues between Windows Vista / 7 and AirPort Disks. Two potential solutions being forwarded are: 1) Changing the LAN Manager authentication level, and/or 2) Disabling the Windows Search feature.
To change the LAN Manager authentication level:
From the Windows Vista / 7 desktop, click Start
Search for: security
Click 'Local Security Policy'
Goto Local Policies > Security Options

A third "solution," that has worked for me, is verify that both the AirPort base station and the Win7 PC are using the exact same Workgroup Name. Macbook Pro will not recognize my external hard drive

I just updated to a newer MacBook Pro. I ran Time Machine on my old Macbook from a 2TB external USB hard drive. When I hooked the hard drive to my new Mac, it wouldn't allow me to select it as the drive for Time Machine. So I dismounted the hard drive and hooked it back to my old macbook to see if it still registered there (which it did). Now when I try and hook the hard drive to my new macbook, it will not recognize it at all. First question, why will it not recognize my new macbook, and second question, why does Time Machine not recognize the hard drive? It has my old time machine files on it...hopefully I don't have to reformat it and lose all my backup??

My hard drive is now connected. But Time Machine will not let me select the hard drive as my back up drive. I am having the same problem with acomdata 250G firewire only drive. It used to mount fine. I was able to boot from it and work from it. Now I get an error that the imac doesn't recognize the drive. If I click 'initialize', i get disk utility, which spins but does not do anything until i force quit.
The drive seems to remount on reboot, or the first time I plug it in after rebooting, but once I unmount it or turn it off, it will not remount.
The drive is a clone of my imac hard drive. I erased and partitioned it with disk utility before cloning with carbon copy cloner.

My Mac OS X 10.5.8 isn't recognizing my Samsung USB external hard drive. The hard drive has already been formatted for a Mac (rather than PC). Sounds like it's very badly damaged, and it may be too much to expect the data to still be intact. However, you can try repairing it with a more powerful utility, like [DiskWarrior|http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html] or [TechTool Pro|http://www.micromat.com>. If neither of those can fix it, then your only options will be using a data recovery tool, such as [Data Rescue|http://www.prosofteng.com> or [File Salvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1], or paying an expensive data recovery service to disassemble the drive and recover what they can.
Of course, this would all have been avoided if you had backups of your data. In the future, you must have a minimum of three copies of any data you don't want to lose.

At the end, half of them i succeeded to quit and about 4 wouldn't quit. The finder was frozen/crashed, no dock or apple menu or any menu for that matter. The mouse moved. i could shortcut 'force quit' and 'return' on default OKs.
So i powerbuttoned down. On rebooting, the volumes on the Mercury Elite* unit in question didn't mount. I looked for them with disk utility but nothing. So i then examined the unit. A soft clicking noise was emanating and the power adapter was HOT!
The two drives are now in the mac pro internally and are working fine. But before i took them out, i tested the pins on the power adapter with a voltmeter, according to the schematic on the adapter itself and i got 5,5v on the one side and 13 odd v on the other. Apparently what's supposed to be coming out. (5v and 12v)

No, but it could damage files or the directory structure, so the drive wouldn't mount. Disk Utility should be able to fix it by erasing or partitioning, but you would lose the data on the drive.

You may have bad RAM, or other hardware problems. Have you run the extended Apple Hardware Tests. Boot from the install DVD while pressing "D". Try removing any non-Apple RAM modules.

Some power supplies will put out more than the rated voltage if there is nothing attached, but 5.5 V and 13 V are not high enough to cause damage, anyway.

Use whatever CD/DVD burner software is installed on your computer.
Add the iTunes media folder to the list of files/folders to burn to disc.

WE know Disk Warrior is more reliable, hence more useful, and should be in any disk mechanics toolchest.
For the record, I don't know anything of the kind. I have yet to see evidence that Disk Warrior is useful at all.
What I do know is that you seem to take every opportunity you get to promote it in these forums. Do you work for Alsoft?
Let me be a little more explicit. My opinion is that Disk Warrior is a waste of money if one has backups. If a journaled HFS directory is so badly corrupted that it can't be repaired by Disk Utility, then the volume should be reformatted and restored from backup, which has the same effect as running DW, but is probably faster and doesn't cost $99.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
