My computer will only connect to secure websites.
For some reason, I can only connect to websites that have https (no http or www sites).
What happens if you try to use non-secure web sites? Is there an error message or do you just get a blank web page?

When I first started up google chrome on my iMac today, the start up page (google) wasn't loading. I decided to try other websites such as youtube, twitter, tumblr, and Facebook. Out of all the websites I tried, Facebook was the only website the loaded up (and very quickly at that). I decided to try the google search bar to see if it would work and it did, but some links that I clicked didn't load up. I tried following some advice I found on some forums, but none of them worked. I cleared my cache, got rid of login items, fixed up my desktop, restarted my router, and a few other things, but nothing. It worked fine two days ago (didn't use it yesterday), but now it's just really sucky. The Internet works fine on my ipad and my brother's dell laptop so my iMac has to be the problem. Can someone help me out? Btw, I haven't upgraded to Lion yet, since I'm waiting on my day to pay for it, plus the Mac App Store doesn't work until hours after I've started up my iMac..

I've been working on our church website and all of a sudden this week, my computer will not connect to the site. I keep getting a message saying that the the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can fix this?

Did you mean the WLan encryption which secures the entry to the wireless LAN?
I suppose you have set the encryption (WPA, WEP, etc...) on your WLan router but didnt configure the WLan card.
Well, in my opinion you should check which WLan encryption does the card support and then choose it on the WLan router. The encryption key should be set on the router and on the notebook! -

My computer will only boot in safe mode and in normal mode displays grey apple that turns into a grey cross. Surface scan in techtool pro 4.5.1 passed
Long Story... (all the issues I've had as they are all back to back and most likely cause by what sloved the previous one).
When i first got my macbook i already had a 500gb hdd in my macmini running 10.6 (or 10.6.1 I forget) and as soon as a had the macbook running off this drive it would give me one error for each and every movie file that was visible (in an open folder or on the desktop) saying quick look helper had unexpectedly quit. I tried everything and for some reason ended up changing all the permissions on the computer which royally screwed it up. anyway after repairing permissions in disk utility the error messages stopped but shortly after start up it was giving me a couple of dozen error messages saying something about .kext's (if requested i can supply full text of this error message) so i tried reinstalling the OS and since in 10.6 there is no archive and install (without messing around in terminal) i just ran the snow leopard disc which brought me back to 10.6 then I upgraded to 10.6.2 and restarting a couple of times over a day or so. After a few restarts I found the computer wouldn't start (it chimed, loaded up the apple symbol and loading wheel and then after a few minutes replaced the apple symbol with a crossed circle) I tried running the snow leopard disc again and this time not upgrading but after about 3 restarts the same thing happened. now i can only start up in safe boot mode or off my backup drive which still displays a few dozen of the .kext errors at start up. Since I have upgraded the the latest iOS in my iPhone 4S , this problem started and eventually the white button for Wi-fi stopped working. The one day before switching off the phone , I took out the SIM and reset the Networking and didn't switch on. Then I wrapped the phone with tissue paper and kept it in the deep refrigerator for 25 to 30 minutes and after cleaning frosty layer, I turned on the phone.... Somehow the Wi-fi button started working and the Wi-fi network too. Then only I inserted the SIM . Magic..!! My phone is still working fine . But I have to do this process once or twice a month every time Wi-fi stops working. Good luck my friend....hope you get benefitted !!

Firefox will not connect to any website but other browsers can
I installed firefox on my new advent laptop running windows 7 but it will not connect to any websites. I can connect using chrome or ie no problem but i always preferred firefox as a browser, i have tried changing settings and turning off my firewall but still having no luck
Okay, here is my answer to this problem. At least it fixed my problem and firefox now works fine.
Prior to this problem I was running zonealarm (free firewall) everything worked fine until I removed zonealarm free and installed Comodo free firewall. That is when the trouble started. firefox failed and IE kept working. I tried everything posted here nothing worked for me.
I resorted to "REGEDIT" and removed everything in my registry that regedit would allow that had the name of "zonealarm" on it. Didn't even have to reboot my system, firefox worked first thing. Everything else is fine also.
[note: this is not a slam against Lavasoft's ZoneAlarm firewall. It is just that UNINSTALL programs do not always do a thorough job of removing parts of programs in your systems and registry cleaner programs do not pick them up either.]
USE CARE, "REGEDIT" IS A POWERFUL AND DANGEROUS TOOL TO USE ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE NOT A SOMEWHAT ADVANCED USER. USE CARE WITH "REGEDIT!"

I have checked the passcode over and over again and I am sure it's correct. it's not just happening with my home network, also at work it never works. Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

My Safari will not load any secure website
Hello Everyone,
Recently my Safari will not load any secure webpage that I try to connect to, i.e.: Google, Gmail, YouTube, PayPal, but Safari will load insecure webpages that I have either bookmarked or that I manually type in their URL. Everytime I try and load one of these secure webpages like Google, i get the error "Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server www.google.com." I have searched through these threads and have tried a few of the remedies suggested, all to no avail. I've reset Safari, I've deleated all plug-ins, I've cleared cashes and history, I've removed all cookies and internet data, I've changed my Mac's dns to Google's 8.8.8.8 // 8.8.4.4, and still no fix. The problem even persists in safemode. Even the webpages I can load take forever to load. Just getting to this forum took nearly 3 hours as every page loaded took roughly 10-15 minutes. I am at a loss as to what could be causing this and how to fix it.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
I cannot connect to secure websites! How do I fix it?
I was going to do some homework on Google Docs, and the login page would not load! It would simply try to connect for a while, then time out.
After some experimenting, I noticed this happened with all secure web pages (https://), and that non-secure websites (http://) loaded fine. This happens in all browers. I tested Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
Now, this only happens on my user account. This does not happen on my moms account, which I am currently on.
We initially thought it was an issue with the parental controls, so we completely disabled them. But the problem still persists. I am very confused and would love some help.Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
