No, you will not lose anything.
The lock button is the one on the very top of the device, and the home button is the one on the bottom front. They are the only two buttons on the device.

  • Computer won't accept my password

After upgrading from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 to 10.4.10, my computer is now not recognizing the password that I have been using on the computer since I owned it. Is it possible that the password reset itself to some factory one or changed to something else althogether? Please help me out.

he 10.3 install disk works for resetting the Administrator account under a Tiger install, I've done it a couple of times.
Also, you can enable the root user by selecting "System Administrator (root)", and assign a password to it. When you restart the machine, in the login window select "Other" type the name "root" and the password you just assigned it. If you can login as root, it will give you full access to your files (in /Users/youruseraccount) in order to make a backup. Then go to System Preferences/Accounts, and try changing the password for your account.
If you followed carefully the instructions in the Apple KB article about the Netinfo database restore, and it didn't work, I can think two reasons:
There was not a backup of the netinfo database.
You made a typo when entering the commands in Single User Mode.
If nothing works, you'll have to either restore the Netinfo database from defaults (point III in the Apple kb article Restoring from defaults, in wich case you'll loose all your files.
Or do an Archive & Install (but since you haven't got the Tiger install disk available, you'll need to ask Apple for a replacement, for a fee).
    Good Luck.

In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to FOlder and type in ~/Library/keychains
Click the login.keychain once to Highlight and then from the Finder's File Menu do a Get Info (CMD and I Keys together)
In the Info Panel go to the Bottom and see if you Own the File
(Open the Padlock and then the cogwheel icon and your shortname should be there greyed Out about making you the Owner).
In the list above that you should be listed with Read and Write permissions.
If you don't have Read and Write permissions you will not store any new password.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • My email on Mac 10.7.4 won't accept my password.

how can I send email messages if Mac 10.7.4 won't accept my password.  It never asked until recently.  Messages are delivered and are readable, but I can't send messages.  I installed iCloud but I think that was after the email began misbehaving.  Thank you for your help.

I checked the pondini fixes and ended up doing the following - in case this could help someone else with an iMac, OSX Lion, and Time Capsule... http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
First, I downloaded and used Airport Utility 5.6 instead of 6.1 - BTW, I had to attempt download and installation THREE times before the program actually installed.  Be persistant.
Pondini #5: It's possible some names (of all things!) may be a problem.    See item C9.  I had to re-name my Mac, Time Capsule, network, etc... to remove all apostrophes and spaces.
Pondini #7:  If you have WD SmartWare installed on Lion, it's not compatible, per RoaringApps, and there are reports it can cause this problem as well.   Use Western Digital's uninstaller, or delete the app from /Applications and the files com.wdc.WDDMservice.plist and com.wdc.WDSmartWareServer.plist from /Library/LaunchDaemons.   There may also be a file in Library/Application Support.
I then had to shut down computer, unplug Time Capsule, unplug modem; plug everything in again, then reboot computer; then had to go to Apple- System Preferences- Network- and reselect my Time Capsule to connect to WiFi again.
Then opened Time Machine preferences again and attempted back up - it worked!

  • Trying to update Flash... Won't accept my password.

What is with this thing?  I'm downloading away when in Step 3 it all crashes to a halt when it won't accept my password.  How do I get past this ?  All I want to do is update Flash!

Adobe software does not involve passwords.  It might be your computer requiring you to allow the processing to occur rather than something the update itself is doing.

  • I'm running OS X 10.4.11 on my PowerMac, and cannot retrieve email.  Does this have to do with iCloud?  I also cannot upgrade my operating system as my computer won't accept it.  Any information about this for me? Thank you!

I'm running OS X 10.4.11 on my PowerMac, and cannot retrieve email.  Does this have to do with iCloud?  I also cannot upgrade my operating system as my computer won't accept it.  Any information about this for me? Thank you!

    Hi Steve,
If this is dot mac or Mobile me you can still use IMAP eMail in the iCloud.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT - DO NOT TRY TO ALTER YOUR EXISTING ACCOUNT.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
        •    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 993
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
        •    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 587
        •    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.
    Thanks to dpepper...

There is a hardware problem.  Whether it's worth it to you to have no working phone for 2 months until you can update vs paying for replacement/repair now is a question only you can answer.
