My computer won't allow me to play songs

I had a bunch of songs on my ipod, came to itunes to buy more, then synced, and now all but 3 of the songs are gone from the ipod?? And I get an error that "Some of the items in the itunes library were not copied to the ipod because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." Please help if you know anything about this. This whole process has me stumped??

Choose Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes or play one of the songs, and provide your iTunes Store account information when prompted.

One of my family members send a vidoe to me. Its on a quick time, but it doesnt allow me to play it, becuase I need an additional program. I wanted to ask what program do I need? My computer is MacBook Air. Please help me! Thank you

You generally need Perian for FLV and AVI files, and the free version of Flip4Mac for WMA or WMV files. Some files simply can't be opened on the Mac.

  • Won't allow me to play music purchased by an old email address, even though my computer is authorized

I have a ton of music that I purchased when my Mac account had a yahoo email address. I've updated my account to include my current mac address. iTunes won't allow me to play any of the old music, and it asks me to sign in with my yahoo address version of my account - which doesn't exist anymore. So I authorize the current account, and iTunes says I'm already authorized. Still won't allow me to play the music. How can I get all of that music to be a part of my real, current iTunes account??? Thanks

Same thing here. I am getting the authorization message with iPad, 2 iPods and 3 iPhones. I'm furious about this. I reviewed my itunes account info and everything looks accurate. I downloaded a movie this morning and I can't sync it to iPad. Let's see what explanation is offered.

  • HT200109 Why do all my other Apple devices not care if the movie I rented from iTunes if it was downloaded directly to that device or not, but the stupid Apple TV won't allow you to play rented movies unless you rented it directly from the Apple TV?

Why do all my other Apple devices not care if the movie I rented from iTunes if it was downloaded directly to that device or not, but the stupid Apple TV won't allow you to play rented movies unless you rented it directly from the Apple TV?
Great, so now I have to airplay it by linking my computer to my Apple TV and then the movie has to buffer! So, all that time I spent downloading the HD video has to technically "download" again by buffering. The more I use Apple TV, the more I feel like this item was not created by Apple. I don't even use it for what I originally purchased it for. If I would have known that anytime I wanted to sync a movie from my computer to Apple TV by using airplay that it would have to buffer the movie, I would have never ever ever ever ever purchased this waste of time device. So the video has to technically play all the way through one time first so Apple TV can "remember" the movie to play it back in real time afterwards.
Am I missing something here? Am I doing something wrong that can be fixing my problem? I should have known that the Apple TV had so many things backwards when simple things like when you are using the remote and you reach the bottom of your list, in order to cycle back to the top of your list you have then press the directional buton back the other way rather than most modern day devices that will automatically cycle you back to the top or to the other side when you reached the bottom or end but keep on pressing the button. That **** annoys me when I am doing a search for a movie and have to type the name in manually and have to cycle back and forth to the letters. It makes me feel like I am using a rotary phone or something!

I was told by someone to try and purchase something directly from my Apple TV and that will help authorize my Apple TV.  So I picked something that was free and it downloaded.
Then I went back to the Movie that would not work and it played just fine.
So it seemed to work.  I will have to try it on other movies and TV shows later.

If it's in recovery mode, the data is already gone. Why did you never back up your important data?

  • My computer won't allow me to duplicate a CD!  Error code -8058

I need to copy a CD and my lousy computer won't allow me. Is there some reason why it's not?

You didn't mention what CD you are trying to copy.
If it is just a regular CD, then it is possible that it is somehow copy-protected. This is a standard industry practice to prevent you from making copies of their programs. This is supposedly to crack-down on software piracy.
If it is a DVD, then the above suggestion is still possible. All DVD movies (well the commercial ones) are copy protected. And, duplicating them by any means is actually illegal in the United States (although there are programs that will do it - but those programs are also illegal here).
Copying program DVD's (such as the Mac OS) is legal if the license agreement permits it, and even then usually only for the purpose of having a backup in-case the original gets scratched or damaged somehow.
If it is not copy protected, and it is a DVD, then:
You should verify that your source DVD and destination DVD-R are the same type of disk, and that your drive can write that type of disk.
There are standard DVD disks and Dual-Layer disks. The Dual-Layer disks hold roughly double the capacity of a standard disk.
So, if you are trying to copy a Dual-Layer disk to a standard DVD disk, then it's not going to work.
Likewise, your drive also needs to be capable of writing to a dual-layer disk. Only the drives in the 17-inch MacBook Pro are able to do this. The 15-inch MacBook Pro is not able to write dual-layer disks.
Now, assuming that both the disk you are reading and the disk you are writing to are NOT Dual Layer DVD disks, then you may have a media problem.
In this case, it could be that the media is not a type that works well in your computer. Some drives are very particular about who's disks they'll work with. Others will burn anything.
So, I would check to see if the computer will burn files to that disk (or the same kind of disk) without trouble.
If it will write to that disk, but still will not copy the disk you are trying to duplicate, then you are probably dealing with copy protection or disks that are in a format that either you cannot write or are of different types.
If you are working with a DVD, you can usually tell if it is a dual-layer disk by seeing how large it's reported capacity is in the Finder.
Right-click on the disk on your desktop, and then click on "Get Info". If the reported capacity is beyond 4.7 GB, then you are most likely working with a dual-layer DVD.
And, of course, the obvious, don't try to copy a CD to a DVD or a DVD to a CD.
And, one more detail is that you need to have plenty of space available on your hard drive to burn a DVD or duplicate one. I tried with about 4 or 5 GB of space free, and was given an error. But, with more space available (around 20 GB) the computer was happy to burn a disk for me.
Again, without more information, it's hard to say for sure what your problem is. But, hopefully the ideas above will provide you with some help in making sure you are on the right track.

  • ITunes won't allow me to play a certain song

My iTunes won't allow me to play Paradise by Coldplay but allows me to play other songs. They told me to put my Apple I.D in and they recognized it but then it played another song. Help?

iTunes can play many different types of mpeg-4 videos that are not compatible with the iPod. iTunes can playback 720p and 1080p mpeg-4 AVC baseline 1.4 videos that can't even be played using AppleTV (or the iPod). So iTunes compatibility doesn't always mean iPod compatibility.
However, you can convert it in iTunes to ipod compatibility.
Highlight the movie in itunes, go to menu ADVANCED and select "Create iPod or iPhone version".

Click here and follow the instructions, or if only a small number of songs are affected, delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country.

  • Playlist just scrolls through tunes at top of screen but won't allow me to play them

my playist just scrolls through each title in the list but won't allow me to stop it nor will it play anything from playlists.  installed iOS6 and it worked fine until today (about a week).  Also turned on iTunes match and it continued to work for about 3 weeks.  Still works on my other iphone4, but not on my 4s.  Power down and up didn't work to fix the 4s - phone still sees titles, but only scrolls through them on its own and won't play any tunes

    Hi Diver,
I haven't ever seen this happen, but if quitting apps and hard resets don't do it you might want to start clean. Are you able to run a backup of your iPad mini? If I was in your shoes, I would back up the iPad, erase the iPad and then restore the data to see if that fixes it.
Step 1 would be to back up the data (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766).
Step 2 would be to restore the iPad to factory settings (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414).
Step 3 would be to restore the backup (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766).
    Hope this helps!!

  • My computer won't allow me to restore the factory settings. What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to restore my computer to the factory settings, but it won't allow me to erase everything from the hard drive. It won't even allow me to delete me as a user. What am I doing wrong?

You can't erase a volume while booted from it. Start up from the installation DVD, erase the volume, and reinstall.

  • Won't allow me to play sims 3 it keeps asking for the dvd, won't allow me to play sims 3 it keeps asking for the dvd

it wont allow me to play sims 3 without the dvd. i used cd dvd sharing to download on to my mac but now its asking for dvd to open the game up

    Hi ashiib,
The DVD/CD version of the game requires local access to the media (using a USB-based DVD/CD drive). EA started rolling out this sort of copy protection a while ago and most Sims forums will tell you that the disc must be present locally (not made available via DVD/CD sharing).
Of course there's a downloadable version of the game available, but I suspect that you already own it, judging by your topic.
I'm confident there's a No CD-DVD crack out there for it on the Internet but as that's not exactly kosher with the publisher you'll need to pursue those solutions outside of this or any official channel.

  • Computer freezes when importing CDs or playing songs through iTunes

Hi! I have been searching for a solution to this problem, but have not had any luck. Whenever I try to import a CD to iTunes, my computer freezes. Just recently, my computer started freezing when I play songs through iTunes. I have noticed that some people have similar, if not the same, problem and any suggestions of things that may help are greatly appreciated!

    b noir,
I also have had this same issue. In reading your reply, I've also saved my CD diagnostics....they are included below. I'm fairly convinced that my problem lies in the drive. It is causing WM Player to lockup as well. Please help....thanks.

  • I just bought a Mac today and have never had one, my Itunes shows to have all of my music on it but it won't allow me to play it out loud, it says my computer is not authorized? what does this mean?

I'm a first time Mac user and I went to play my music on Itunes out loud and all the music I previously purchased will not play and then a pop up appears saying my computer is not authorized? what does this mean and how can I fix it?

You need to authorize the new computer that youre working with. First hover over the store button at the top of the screen and then select the authorize this computer button then a popup will appear where you have to put in your Apple ID and Password. Hopefully this works for you
