My computer won't allow me to remove a website from my history tab

I clicked on a website thinking it was safe.  When I try to remove it from my history it's not going away.

If its Safari :-Select History from the Safari Menu, then Show History, then either go to Edit and Select All or simply hit Command-A and then hit the delete key.

If it's in recovery mode, the data is already gone. Why did you never back up your important data?

  • My computer won't allow me to duplicate a CD!  Error code -8058

I need to copy a CD and my lousy computer won't allow me. Is there some reason why it's not?

You didn't mention what CD you are trying to copy.
If it is just a regular CD, then it is possible that it is somehow copy-protected. This is a standard industry practice to prevent you from making copies of their programs. This is supposedly to crack-down on software piracy.
If it is a DVD, then the above suggestion is still possible. All DVD movies (well the commercial ones) are copy protected. And, duplicating them by any means is actually illegal in the United States (although there are programs that will do it - but those programs are also illegal here).
Copying program DVD's (such as the Mac OS) is legal if the license agreement permits it, and even then usually only for the purpose of having a backup in-case the original gets scratched or damaged somehow.
If it is not copy protected, and it is a DVD, then:
You should verify that your source DVD and destination DVD-R are the same type of disk, and that your drive can write that type of disk.
There are standard DVD disks and Dual-Layer disks. The Dual-Layer disks hold roughly double the capacity of a standard disk.
So, if you are trying to copy a Dual-Layer disk to a standard DVD disk, then it's not going to work.
Likewise, your drive also needs to be capable of writing to a dual-layer disk. Only the drives in the 17-inch MacBook Pro are able to do this. The 15-inch MacBook Pro is not able to write dual-layer disks.
Now, assuming that both the disk you are reading and the disk you are writing to are NOT Dual Layer DVD disks, then you may have a media problem.
In this case, it could be that the media is not a type that works well in your computer. Some drives are very particular about who's disks they'll work with. Others will burn anything.
So, I would check to see if the computer will burn files to that disk (or the same kind of disk) without trouble.
If it will write to that disk, but still will not copy the disk you are trying to duplicate, then you are probably dealing with copy protection or disks that are in a format that either you cannot write or are of different types.
If you are working with a DVD, you can usually tell if it is a dual-layer disk by seeing how large it's reported capacity is in the Finder.
Right-click on the disk on your desktop, and then click on "Get Info". If the reported capacity is beyond 4.7 GB, then you are most likely working with a dual-layer DVD.
And, of course, the obvious, don't try to copy a CD to a DVD or a DVD to a CD.
And, one more detail is that you need to have plenty of space available on your hard drive to burn a DVD or duplicate one. I tried with about 4 or 5 GB of space free, and was given an error. But, with more space available (around 20 GB) the computer was happy to burn a disk for me.
Again, without more information, it's hard to say for sure what your problem is. But, hopefully the ideas above will provide you with some help in making sure you are on the right track.

  • Dvd/cd drive works but won't allow me to install new programs from disk, doesn't recognize the disk,

dvd/cd drive works but won't allow me to install new programs from disk, doesn't recognize the disk, what can I do?

Well I was able to obtain a work around download of Flash and it installed fine but Firefox tells me it needs updating so I go out, thinking I'm "IN" finally to update it and I get that issue of not being able to get the update for it.  It's a regular laptop, not a touch screen or one of those new fangled ones for todays world.  In fact it's a refurb so it's probably origin date was a year or so ago before all this MS stuff took off fully.  So not understanding why I'm feeling like I'm being BLOCKED from getting the updated Flash I need and desire.  If I click on the little "X" and tell it to ignore the warning the vid will play just fine but don't want to have to do that every time.  Must be a better way.
Again, I'm sorry for posting in the wrong forum, getting this posted in the Flash forum was my desire but the way Adobe has this set up I just couldn't figure it out.  I belong to ALLOT of forums and most are pretty straight forward but this one is confusing!

  • Firefox won't allow me to Upload a video from "MY Video's" recorded on an iPhone 4

Firefox won't allow me to Upload a video from "MY Video's" recorded on an iPhone 4

You generally need Perian for FLV and AVI files, and the free version of Flip4Mac for WMA or WMV files. Some files simply can't be opened on the Mac.

  • How to use about:config to REMOVE Delta Search from my new tab

I am desperate to remove Delta Search from my new tab page. What do I do after I open about:config? I have done at least a dozen resets, have removed DS via add/remove, am running a virus scan at present...this is TERRIBLE, and there HAS to be a way to get rid of it. When I do a reset, the new tab page is what I WANT...my previously saved pages. However, when I CLOSE FF and reopen, the new page is, once again, Delta. Can you hear me SCREAM? Can you see my TEARS? I am really fed up. Thanks for getting back to me with a solution that WORKS. jo

Why should we have to do this? I ticked the box that said I didn't want to install it. You, Delta Search, are a bunch of troublesome low lifes.

  • My computer won't allow me to restore the factory settings. What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to restore my computer to the factory settings, but it won't allow me to erase everything from the hard drive. It won't even allow me to delete me as a user. What am I doing wrong?

You can't erase a volume while booted from it. Start up from the installation DVD, erase the volume, and reinstall.

  • HT201272 Remove past purchases from my history on my iPhone

    How do I do this

It's not currently possible to permanently delete any items from your purchase history, but you should be able to hide them from the Purchased tabs in the store apps via your computer's iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919

  • My computer keeps needing to restart and the computer won't allow me to submit error report to apple

My IMAC keeps prompting me to restart after the screen turns grey. Essentially, after a few hours of use, the screen turns dark grey, filling in from the top to the bottom slowly. Once the screen has the dark grey hue, directions pop up in the middle of the screen for me to restart the computer. Once I restart it, the computer automatically generates an error box to report to apple. However, when I click the box to submit to apple, even if when the computer is connected and running well, it will not allow me to report it. It's been doing this for a few months. What do I do?

What you're getting are kernel panics. These are usually, but not always, caused by hardware, with memory the leading cause.  I would go find your original OS X disks that came with the system, find the one that says in small print on the label 'AHT Version x.x', insert and reboot holding the D key down (if that doesn't work, hold that alt/option key and when prompted choose the Apple hardware test). When prompted, choose the extended test. Does that identify any hardware issues?
You can also run Rember from  http://kelleycomputing.net:16080/rember/ if you want to thoroughly test your memory. Let it run overnight for a good test.
    Also, see this FAQ: http://thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

  • I am trying to install MS Office updates on my mac, but my computer won't allow me to choose the Mac HD to install it. What do I do?

I've already tried the MS help website suggested in the error window and there is no assistance available there. Help!

If you are upgrading from Office 2008 without any service pack you need to install SP1 before installing SP2
    Prerequisites
Before you install the Office 2008 12.2.0 Update, make sure that the computer is running Mac OS X 10.4.9 (Tiger) or a later version of the Mac OS X operating system.
To verify that the computer meets this prerequisite, click About This Mac on the Apple menu.
Additionally, you must install Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.0 Update or later versions before you install the Office 2008 for Mac 12.2.0 Update.
    This is Office 2008 SP1
