My computer won't boot if HP Officejet Pro 8600 is plugged into a USB port.

If I unplug the printer and then turn on the computer it boots fine.  The printer works fine if I don't plug it in until the computer is already running.

Hello sycomp
I found out that your computer has a bios update that may need to be installed. I would of course suggest not having the printer plugged in until after you update the bios. Interestingly one of the fixes listed states it resolves a boot issue when the Photosmart 8250 is connected. It may resolve your current issue as well. The link below is to the proper download page.

  • Airport Extreme won't show the WD external hard drive I plugged into the USB port.  How do I connect my external hard drive to my network?

I plugged in my WD external hard drive into my Airport Extreme via the USB port.  The hard drive will not show up in the disk section in the airport utility... How do I hook an external hard drive up to the airport extreme?  I have tried 2 different WD hard drives.  I must be missing something!!!
    Thanks!

To be recognized by the AirPort for sharing, the WD HDD has to be formatted in either HFS+ (ideal) or FAT32. The easiest way to format the HDD is to use the Disk Utility in OS X.

  • My computer and itunes do not see my iphone 'device' when I plug into either USB port on the computer.  Have tried all the basic stuff suggested by 'support'.  Any ideas?

My computer and itunes app do not see my iphone when I plug it into either USB port on the computer.  The cable works because I can hear the iphone start charging off the computer.  But there is no indication of the device in itunes or on my hard drive device list.  Any ideas?

Have no idea what you mean by "basic stuff".  Try EVERYTHING in this support article:

I just got and ipod shuffle when i plug it into my usb port a few seconds later my computer freezes and i have to restart

Try a different USB port. I had that issue with my shuffle once and using another USB port resolved it. Here is a great iPod Shuffle Support page. Keep it handy for anytime there is an issue or question regarding your shuffle. It's very thorough. http://www.apple.com/support/ipodshuffle/

  • My ipod will not stay connected to my computer.  When first plugged into the usb port, I can see it as a drive.  Within seconds it disappears.  If I look in the devices area, I can see it but it has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point beside it.

When I connect my ipod to a usb port on my computer, I can see it in my computer as a drive for a few seconds and then it disappears.  It can be seen under devices but as a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it.  If I run trouble shoot, it states windows is disconnecting this device.
I can see it in itunes as a device.  However, this is a brand new computer, running windows 7.  My last one bit the dust in mid use.  I want to save the songs on my ipod and to do that I believe I need to be able to see the files on the ipod.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Great Troubleshooting on your own so far!. (If you got 2 PC and 2 iPod would be much easier, some of the people in this community has more than 2 of each.)
Hope you did not connect it to a USB Hub, the sync cable must be plug in directly to a USB2 port at the back of the Desktop Computer.
If you have a spare Notebook, with iTunes, connect it to the Notebook, to check if the iPod is working or hung.
Can you iPod run and play songs, when disconnected from the PC? (Sorry, for just asking the obvious)
Anyway, just hard reset your iPod, so that we can start from scratch
    1. if your iPod is hung, reset it by pressing Menu and Center button for at least 10 secs till the Apple logo, comes on. (this won't delete your songs in the iPod, if they are not corrupted))
    2. Connect it back to your Notebook or Desktop.
if your iPod screen is dead, try charging the battery by connecting it to another computer. if it doesn't connect to successfully to another computer, it may need servicing.
    Good luck!

  • Charging iPod abroad--can I plug into the USB port of a foreign computer?

I'm going to Guatemala and will be bringing my iPod touch. I expect that I'll be in internet cafes on a fairly regular basis. Is there any currency conversion problem if I charge my iPod off of the USB port in a foreign computer? Guatemala uses the same currency as the US, but I want to be sure it's safe...
    Thanks!

USB power output is standardized, you should have no trouble, just be sure not to sync with the machine if it has iTunes or you will remove all your music/videos.

  • MBP will not boot when a USB/USB2 Device is plugged into either USB port.

MBP hangs on the initial Gray Screen when anything is plugged into either of my MBP's USB ports on boot and reboot. I've tried it with a USB mouse, USB2 Hard Drive, USB Memory Stick and USB RF Mouse. It DOES NOT happen when anything is plugged into the Firewire 800 port, only either USB port.
It happens on reboot and a fresh start whenever something is plugged into either of these two USB ports. I've let the gray screen sit overnight, just to see if it would enter the Login Panel. Didn't happen.
As soon as I unplug the USB item, the HD whirls up and a few seconds later the booting continues as normal. I have booted in verbose mode just to see what the system says. It stays on the gray screen, again, until I unplug the USB device. However, the screen does note the following:
"The IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating a USB device that has been plugged in. It will keep retrying. (Port 3 of hub @ location: 0x6000000)."
The above error may or may not be related.
........AND BEFORE ANYONE SUGGESTS IT, YES I HAVE ZAPPED THE PRAM and reinstalled the OS from new MBP Install Disks from scratch! Still occurs.
Hope someone can also validate what I've wrote with the newer MBP, as well.
    Many Thanks!

  • My computer isn't seeing my HP Officejet Pro 8600

My computer (Mac OS X 10.8.5) is connected to my home wireless router, yet my computer which is connected to the same can't see it.  The printer network test says all is good.  I try to connect by way of my chrome browser and it isn't found. I try to ping the IP address from the terminal and get no response.  Can anyone please provide me any ideas as to what to do?

I moved my 8600 and lost contact with my router one foot away.

  • I downloaded the latest itunes version while my ipod 4 touch was plugged into my usb port on my laptop. After it downloaded on my computer the ipod froze and it shows a picture of a usb cable, and an arrow pointing to the itunes symbol.

i tried to restart and re download everything and it still is doing the same thing. this keeps happening alot and i have to end up taking the ipod to the apple store to have them erase everything on my ipod to restart it. is there anything i can do at home to fix it

Have you tried to put the device into DFU mode?
To put the device in DFU mode,
    1. Connect the device to iTunes
    2. Hold both the power button and the home button down simultaneously
    3. After 10 seconds, release the power button but leave the home button pressed
    4. iTunes should then recognize that the device has entered DFU mode and ask to restore.
    I hope that helps.

  • Imac G5 won't start with Isight plugged into the firewire port.

I went to turn on my Imac today and it wouldn't start. After checking all the usual culprits (power strip, outlet and power chord) which were not the problem, I proceeded by unplugging all the external devices from the back ports. After unplugging the computer for a few seconds and plugging it back in (which I read resets any power issues), it turned back on. I plugged my Isight camera back in and turned it on and the computer suddenly shut off. I reproduced this quite a few times and it did the same thing. It won't even turn on if any device is plugged into the firewire port. Does anyone have a clue of what this conflict could be or experienced anything similar.
I would greatly appreciate any input.
    Thanks in advance,
    Daniel

Welcome to Discussions - try resetting your PRAM, if that doesn't work, I'm afraid there is something wrong with your logic board, where the firewire bus is located. The best thing to do would be to take it in for servicing.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus Not Recognized On The Network

I have a CenturyLink DSL Modem/Router that has 4 ports on the back.  I use Port 1 on the DSL Modem/Router to conntect to my NetGear Router.  I use Port 2 on the DSL Modem/Router to connect my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus printer.  I use Port 3 on the DSL Modem/Router to connect my Brother MFC-7360N printer.  I am not using Port 4 of the DSL Modem/Router.
My NetGear Router is used to connect all wired desktop PC's (5) in the house.
I was able to successfully install the software for the Brother printer on all computers and can print on the Brother printer from any of the desktop pc's.
I have the software for the HP printer installed on all computers but on the WIN XP desktop pc I cannot detect the printer on the network.  During the setup process the software detects that the HP printer and the WIN XP pc are connected to two different routers (the DSL Modem/Router is being detected as a router by the WIN XP pc).  On the other desktop pc's which are running either WIN7 or WIN8 there is no detection problems even though the printer is connected to the DSL Modem/Router while the PC is conntected to the NetGear Router.
Does anyone have any knowledge as to why I am having this problem.  The problem seems to be only with the WIN XP pc and not with the WIN7 or WIN8 pc's.

You are running a double NAT scenario, not good.  Simple fix, put the gateway unit (modem/router) in bridge mode, which will disable the router functions and just make it a modem.  Now connect the Netgear router to the gateway unit and have this handle all your wired and wireless connections.

  • Computer won't boot up after installing SIIG card

    Hey Everyone,
I having problems with my SIIG FireWire 2-Port PCIe DV card that I've installed into my PowerMac G5 Quad. With the card installed the computer will not boot up, which is the same thing that happened with my previous two models of the card. I installed a new card yesterday and it worked fine all day, but after shutting the computer down for the night and then restarting it in the morning I am experiencing the same problems. The light on the front of the computer turns on, but the screen does not, and after about a minute a loud fan noise comes one. I have the card installed in Slot 2. In Slot 1 I have a ProTools HD card and in Slot 3 I have an AJA Kona LHE card. Even with all of the cards removed the computer still does not boot up. Anyone seen this problem before? Any help or information anybody can offer would be greatly appreciated.
    PowerMac G5 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi, I had the same problem with my dual core G5.
I installed the card and my computer won't boot up. The screen stays gray and the fan keeps spinning.
I contacted SIIG and they said the card is defective, which, I doubt it is.
I then returned it for a refund.

  • Help! Computer won't boot!

    Hello!
today I installed a usb 3.0 card in my windows 8.1 HP machine. Was supplied to be compatible, I plugged it into the slot and connected the power supply that was free, which was on the same line as the power cable that the main hard drive was used too, and I booted.
i immediately got the error that ":-( your computer ran into an error and needs to restart"
i unplugged everything and and rebooted as it was originally without the usb card.
it it attempts to restart and loads the repair/recovery mode. If I select any option here including refresh or restore windows all fail. Refresh says the drive is locked that contains windows. The restore says the partition with windows is missing!
i tried using a bootable 8.1 uSB and changed boot order and yet I get the same errors (I can't confirm its booting from USB save that it takes longer so I assume it does). I resented all cables. Pulled all and over them to new slots. Nothing works.
how does this happen just by installing a card that is supposed to be compatible. Manufacturer of the card says to send it in for a refund and that's it, no offer for more.
i would really appreciate any help getting my computer up and running again!
    thank you, Rob

Thank you for the reference to the card.  Card's power is the standard 4 pin Molex. It is keyed, and hard to plug in the wrong way.    This tutorial is step-by-step for repair and trouble shooting. You need to verify the hard drive is found in the BIOS(Step 4).
Referring back to step 3, Run the hardware diagnostic. This complex tutorial is meant to get you back to operational status.  Use caution, and read the sections.  Caution with text that implies or mentions "Recovery".  That is a brute force back to day 1 reset.  You lose all your personal data.  Repair and or Restore (point) does not destroy personal data.
