My computer won't create new folders-only new briefcases

HP heard-1360t desk top running Win 7 64 bit
My computer won't create new folders. It creates new briefcases instead.  It does not matter whether I use the New Folder link at the top or Right Click --> New-->New Briefcase .  The New Folder option is not there.
Does anyone know how to get it back?

  • Profile manager (macOSX FF 3.6.8) won't create new profile or rename

Using terminal I used profile manager to successfully create a new profile (it called it Default User) and then I copied essential files like bookmarks into the new folder. FF works fine, but I can not longer create a new profile or rename the old one. In terminal the create new / rename dialogue appears, but when I try to type in a new name into the dialogue box the text does not appear in the dialogue box but appears in the terminal window. The profile folder only contains the one profile and it is correctly referenced in the .ini file.

I also have this problem and it just started in the last week or so. It seems to be dependent on my home network and the problem only exists with firefox. I have used chrome and IE8 with no issues. I can verify tomorrow that it only exists in my network but one thing I was able to test is that the problem exists even on my linux boot. I am totally dumbfounded with this problem and I can't find anything that will allow the gmail page to load. All other pages I have tried load fine, all be it a little slower than normal but they load. If anyone knows of a difference between firefox and all other browsers on how it goes through the router I would appreciate the info cause I don't know of any differences.

  • Outdated computer won't support new Firefox.

I have a Mac OS X Version 10.4.11. I just downloaded the latest Firefox and when asked 'Do you want to delete the existing file' (ie an older version of Firefox), I clicked yes. But when I tried to open the new Firefox, I got a message saying my computer won't support it. Is there a way I can either get my computer to open the new version, or else to again download the older version?

Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and a Mac with an Intel processor.

  • Cannot add folders, only a briefcase

I'm using Windows 7 on my HP pavilion HPE desktop. For quite some time now, I haven't been able to create any new folders, only briefcases. (You cannot create a briefcase in a briefcase)  When using my wife's profile, you cannot create either one. What gives?  What is wrong with my Windows 7 that I can't create folders?  Also, I just tried to create a new folder in my favorites and I couldn't. I got an error 48 message. Tonight is the first time I've gotten this message.

  • I'm trying to re-install Firefox 6.0 on my Windows 7 PC but can't because my computer won't create the right temporary files.

My computer crashed and I did a Windows 7 system restore. Everything seemed fine but afterward, Firefox would not launch -- I just got a popup box saying Firefox was already running and that I had to either shut down the program or restart my computer. I restarted my computer several times but it did not work.
I then uninstalled Firefox and tried re-installing it. I then received a popup box saying 7-zip, another program I had installed, couldn't create the temporary files needed. I uninstalled 7-zip, thinking that would solve the problem. Instead, I still get the same message, even without the program installed. I'd appreciate any advice ASAP -- I work from home and have hundreds of bookmarks and tabs that I use every day. Thanks so much!

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Computer Crashes when creating new blank disk image

I'm trying to dreacte a new blank disk image from Disk Utility, but when I select "New Blank Image", I name the disk and hit "Create"my compter crashes and requires restart. Any ideas as to why and how to fix?

Yes, iMovie '08 is more "resource intensive" than iMovie HD. (It takes a lot more RAM to provide all that nice scrubbing ability.)
I'm not sure how large the project you're burning is, but I will say that 1GB of RAM is really low for working with video. Anytime a computer starts running out of free memory, bad things start happening. Applications crash, the system appears to hang, etc. When you quit all the other applications you were running, you freed up RAM for iMovie to use.
I would suggest you bump up the RAM in your machine to at least 2GB. It's not very expensive at all. Less than $80. You can get to 4Gb of RAM for $110! I'd be willing to bet that once you've got more available memory your problem will vanish.

  • Apple Script won't create new folder

    Hi all,
First of all, let me explain that in no particular way I am any good with applescript. I find it confusing at the best of times. I've got a bit of code that will check to see if a new folder is created in a specific location. If a new folder is created, then it will copy the name of the folder and create a new folder with the same name in a different place. The reason for this is that I separate my file types (I'm a photographer) and I keep my RAW files in one folder, my PSD files in another, my JPEGs in another and so on. The current code I have worked up until I installed Yosemite as well as Server on my mac mini. Here's the code:
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving added_items
set p to POSIX file "/Volumes/Projects/1. Raw"
         try
              tell application "Finder"
                   repeat with item_ in added_items
if kind of item_ is "Folder" then --if its a folder then make another in Ra
                             make new folder at p with properties {name:item_}
                        end if
                   end repeat
              end tell
         on error
              display dialog "Error occurred"
              return
         end try
    end adding folder items to
The action is set to the JPEG folder, where an application automatically adds a folder (for this example, I'll use "z. test").
    z. Test is detected in the JPEG folder, and then the folder is replicated across to the other separating folders ready for when any new files are added. Trouble is, the error occurred dialog box shows up. I have the appropriate permissions for the hard drives that the folders reside on, and are replicated to the subfolders too.
Is there anyway of finding out what the error is that's occurring? Or am I missing something since upgrading to Yosemite/Server? Any help would be most appreciated!

    Hi,
You can't rename an item with an object (the item_  is an object of type alias), use the name of item_
To know the error, use the parameter in on error block.
    Try this :
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving added_items
        try
set p to "/Volumes/Projects/1. Raw" as POSIX file as alias
            tell application "Finder"
                repeat with item_ in added_items
if kind of item_ is "Folder" then --if its a folder then make another in Ra
set tName to name of item_
                        make new folder at p with properties {name:tName}
                    end if
                end repeat
            end tell
        on error err
            activate
display dialog "Error occurred : " & err
        end try
    end adding folder items to

  • Automator Won't Create New Documents

    Hi there--
When I launch Automator a dialog box comes up asking me to open or create a new document. When I select New, nothing happens. This is true when I select New from the File menu. Additionally, it won't open sample workflows either. I've deleted the Prefs file in my user Library, but that didn't help
    Any thoughts?

    Hi all,
I too am having the same problem. Read on for details.
I upgraded from a working Garageband v3.x (plus the usual load of other stuff via Software Update) and after installing iLife 08, to Garageband 4.1.2 (248.7). Running on a Macbook 1.83MHz with 2GB RAM and OS X 10.4.11 (fully up-to-date).
I can confirm that no amount of 'preferences' deletion and renewal or permissions fixing ('oddball fixes' according to external website referred to by poflynn) makes any difference. No amount of fiddling with Garageband makes any difference either.
When creating a new project the window opens with a std basic track but when I choose to add either a new software or real instrument the new track is not displayed - oddly though the effects pane opens/updates on the right for each 'new' track created. I have been completely unable to get any of the 'new' tracks to display in the track pane of the main window however so cannot build any composition.
Importing a pre-existing Garageband 3.x composition works and all the tracks are displayed correctly but the 'new' track behaviour is the same as above.
I have not yet tried re-installing or downgrading yet and would prefer not to and Apple also state on the Garageband 4.1.2 page that 10.4.11, 10.5 and Garageband 4 are system requirements so it 'should' all work together. I have not yet investigated the CrashReporter and other logs yet either to look for sources of the problem but one possibility may be a screen redraw/update issue with Garageband.
If any users reading this are using 10.5 their input would be useful if they can indicate they are not having any problems as I wonder of it may be an issue with 10.4 and the latest Garageband seeing as 10.5 is a major rewrite of the OS and it wouldn't surprise me if Apple's plans are already concentrating on 10.5 and of course 10.6 which is being mentioned, ie. support for Garageband 4.x in 10.5 is fine but flaky for earlier OS versions.

  • Computer won't recognize new Shuffle

Just got my new 4th Gen. Shuffle in the mail and connected it to my mac laptop but it won't recognize it. I've tried "resetting" the shuffle using Apple's directions, I've restarted my computer, downloaded the latest version of iTunes and NOTHING! Anyone else having issues? Do I need to call? This is ridiculous...

First, run through the Apple troubleshooting suggestions:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/shuffle2gen/
That is for an older version of the ipod, but I would imagine that it will give you some good ideas.
If none of that helps, I would suggest completely uninstalling all the Apple stuff and reinstalling. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall itunes and whatever else was installed for Apple - that includes their USB software.
    Then, reinstall it all.
One other thing to try before doing all that is to shut down your computer and disconnect everything except for your keyboard, mouse and ipod. Then start it up again. If it comes up, then you know that some other USB thing on the bus was conflicting with your iPod. Also make sure you are connecting directly to the computer, not through a hub - just to make sure. If it works, then maybe try using the hub again. If it fails after that, you know it was the hub causing an issue. If it works, reconnect your USB items one at a time and restart after each reconnect until you find what was conflicting.
    Hope that helps,
    i

  • Computer won't recognize new settings

I bought a second hand machine Power Mac 466 mHZ 80 G 512 ram. I have installed Mac oS 10.2, but everytime I turn the machine off, if the power is off for longer then a few minutes, any new settings I have put (mail, internet, preferences, docks etc), get back to the original default setting.
Apparently the computer belonged to a public place, and they needed the setting to go back everytime, but I now want be able to keep my own settings.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

Hi, G.pro, and welcome to the Discussions!
I think that the problem is that the battery in the Mac is weak/dead/defective and not maintaining the PRAM settings. Please refer to the bottom of the page at this link.
I'd put in a fresh battery. It's a 3.6 volt, 850mAh Lithium 1/2 AA size battery. You can pick one up for about $14 at Radio Shack (RS part number is 23-026), an Apple Store, or most computer stores.
You can test the battery first if you have a voltmeter. It should read approximately 3.3 volts or more. If it doesn't, definitely get another one. If it does read OK, turn it a couple of times in its holder to renew the contacts, which might be oxidized. Then do a PRAM reset as described in the aforementioned link, testing again to see if the settings hold.
The setting defaults like those used in a public library are controlled by software. Thus, if you loaded a fresh OS from a regular install disk, it won't exhibit the behavior you described due to its previous use in a public place.

  • HELP, Acrobat 9 missing files, won't create new PDF & won't repair

PLEASE HELP! I tried to create a PDF in Acrobat 9 from a Word 2003 document & it won't let me. I've done this many times before & now all of a sudden it won't work. The import starts & then I get a message that it is missing "pdfmaker files". I tried to repair Acrobat using the "Repair Acrobat Installation" button, but nothing happened. I tried to use my disk but get a message that the "Patch Package could not be opened". I'm using Windows XP. Any help is appreciated.

When ever you are having such problems, the first thing to try is the basic print process. The second is to look for the PDF toolbar in the applications of OFFICE that you are using (or other applications). If they do not exist, it is typically that the macros for PDF Maker are not enabled (Abhigyan has addressed this) or PDF Maker does not work with that application. The latter is sometimes either that there is no capability for the specific application or there is a compatibility issue between AA and the appl (like AA prior to 10 and OFFICE 2010).

  • IMovie won't create new project? (Yosemite)

Hello! I recently got a MacBook Pro. It came with Mavericks, but I quickly upgraded to Yosemite.  I never opened iMovie in Mavericks, I upgraded to Yosemite I imported any videos to work with.
I'm trying to open a project in iMovie and it won't work. I've never been able to get a new movie or trailer to open. Here's what I get when I try:
"The operation could not be completed.
No other information is available about the problem."
I've read around and it appears to be something with the preferences. So I looked where they suggested and couldn't find the file. I'm guessing it was moved for Yosemite?
Either way, I need help. I've been messing with it for a week and nothing has worked.
Any feedback is appreciated, thank you!

What exactly happens when you go  File - New Movie?  I need far more info to help.  Have you already imported any projects from iMovie 9?

I just received a brand new Ipod 3rd gen, hooked it up to the computer, the apple icon showed up, then after a minute, the welcome screen with the language choice flashed, disappeared and back to the apple icon, and it just keeps doing that, occasionally going blank. No recognition from my computer that it's hooked up, nothing. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hello susands,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
With the iPod still connected to your PC, try resetting it. To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together until the Apple logo appears. If no luck the first time, feel free to try this a couple more times as necessary.
Otherwise, it might help to manually place the iPod into *Disk Mode* using these instructions. If you can successfully do that, you may need to restore the iPod via iTunes.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
Other suggestions would be to let the battery completely drain. Then hook it up to your computer and let it charge up enough to fully boot and then restore it via iTunes.
Does it do this if you connect it to another computer?
