My computer won't launch Itunes

The Ipod indicates that it's connected, but Itunes never launches. Even when I disconnect my ipod and then click on the Itunes shortcut it still doesn't launch. i've re-installed it more than 5 times now. I've pratically followed every step in here
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369?viewlocale=en_US
but nothing, it still won't launch. prior to this happening I didn't update a newer version.

Thanks for posting your own topic, that other one was getting kinda skinny ;0
Let's forget about the iPod for now, and see if you can get itunes running.
So, itunes worked OK before and you haven't recently updated it...the first thing to figure out, is it a prob just with this Windows user, or on the whole PC?
Create a new windows account and try to launch itunes - does it come up OK?
Basically, this is the article with things to try.

  • Brand new iPhone- won't connect, won't launch iTunes, can't do anything (??

Hi everyone. I hope someone can help. I just bought my iPhone today at Apple. I walked by AT&T and had an account set up. So, all was well, until I tried to plug it in. Two things have happened.
First, I can't use the phone. When I plug it in, it does not launch iTunes. I've read in other posts to give it 2 minutes and see if it will. I've also read to launch iTunes myself. I've tried both, and nothing. When I launch iTunes it does not show. It doesn't show on my desktop either, but not sure if it should, since it's new to me.
Specifically, the only thing that happens is, I hear a chirp or a tone and the screen lights up when I connect the USB cable. But all it reads is "Slide for emergency" which I did...I guess that's for an emergency call. An icon appears in the middle showing the usb cable and an arrow pointing to an iTunes icon. I've plugged it in, so not sure whey this is still showing. Also, at the very top it reads "no service" which I guess is due to it not being set up yet. And, there's a little "lock" symbol at the top. That's all I get. I've tried rebooting. Nothing. I've tried repairing permissions, then rebooting. Nothing. I cannot get this thing to connect.
Second, and please hear me out on this one. I've used macs for a while and am generally knowledgeable about them. Also, i've been on this iMac for about 5 months, hooked to the same internet connection. However, for whatever reason, after trying to plug the iPhone in, my internet and web applications have gone to complete crap on me. The WILL NOT connect at high speed...it's unbelievably slow. Insufferable even. Now, i've used this every day and have a really good idea of how it reacts. This is 100% out of the ordinary. As I sit here typing this, this page is STILL trying to complete loading. Something is clearly wrong here. Some pages won't load altogether. I've tried resetting my modem (disconnecting, unplugging). Performance was exactly the same. And, as mentioned, i repaired permissions. So, it's a little more than coincidental to me this happened immediately after running into troubles with my iphone connection. It's like the iphone somehow messed my computer up.
Sorry for the long post. I hope you can understand that I'm very frustrated. It appears that, not only can I not get my phone to work, but it seems i've messed my computer up in the process somehow. Any suggestions? Please. Thanks for your help.

    Hi all-
For anyone reading this, I've solved both problems, and figured i'd post in case it could help anyone else.
First, the iPhone issue. I figured it out by reading another post here. Basically, in the start up items of your "accounts" in system preferences, there's an item called iTunesHelper. I had that unchecked. I can't remember why...I guess b/c I believed I wasn't using it. Anyway, I had read that that could be a problem, so I checked it, rebooted, and low and behold....the iPhone connected and launched iTunes. I'm now up and running. Phew.
As for the internet sluggishness, I don't know what was causing it. But, I just booted from the Leopard dvd, ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions as well as verify disk. Everything checked out. Rebooted on Macintosh HD, and everything was fine. It's as if it never happened. Very weird. But it's fixed.
Hope that maybe helps someone in someway...if your iPhone's not launching iTunes, try checking the iTunesHelper app in your startup items. Worked for me.

  • Windows 7 won't launch itunes

Hello, I've seen a few replies to questions like mine, but I haven't had luck.
I'm wondering if there is a number that I can call for someone to walk through this with me. Is this something that I can call an Apple store for help with?
I have iTunes running on my desktop with Windows 7 just fine, but my new laptop will not launch it.
    Thank you for any help.
    All the best,
    -Mike

    Quicktime does NOT start
    Many thanks.
In recent times, the error-message-free iTunes and QuickTime launch failures have been indicating that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

    Fix your Apple Software Update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install

  • New computer won't find iTunes library on external hard drive

I have just purchased a "new" second-hand MacBook, and I want it to recognize my iTunes library from my old powerbook, which resides on an external hard drive. Although I have changed the location of the library in the new computer's iTunes preferences, it doesn't seem to recognize the content. Any suggestions? I'd love to synch my iPod before travelling tomorrow.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

After changing the location, use the File-> Add function to add all the music into the library. It won't automatically find and add everything, so you have to do it.

  • My computer won't open Itunes, it says it has an incompatible program. I dont know how to sort it out. Can anyone help?

Itunes wont open when i click on it but it never tells me why, so i went on troubleshoot and it found some problems and resolved them however it still says that a problem 'incompatible program' was detected and it doesnt give me an option to do anything about it. I have reinstalled itunes, deleted it and got it again and updated it but it still wont open, has anyone got any suggestions as i have run out of any ideas. Also it will not let me select the catagory i want and has frozen on podcasting and radio... sorry. Im a bit dumb with computers.
    Thank you

Ok, what you should do is go to "Preferences" in iTunes, with your iPod connected, and check the option that makes the iTune s your default player and all music files defaultly the Apple format (AAC). It will automatically convert all songs to that format, and list them in your library. However, you may have to right click on them and select "Convert to AAC selection" if they won't play in iTunes... hopefully I have provided some insight...

  • Computer won't read iTunes

Concern with recently downloading iTunes after removing the file from my computer. I removed it, hoping that in downloading the software, it would be able to finally connect to my phone. Now that the software is downloaded, it says "The file iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes". I am downloading the 6.0 and I have Windows XP.
I would greatly appreciate any insight.
    Thanks

    Hi Meg.
Yeah, that would do it too if the downgrade went past a point between versions at which the library files that were used by an iTunes version had changed. (The transitions with that which spring to mind are 4.9 to 4.8 or lower, 5.0.x to 4.9 or lower and 7.0.x to 6.0.5.20 or lower ... there's a bunch of other similar transitions when downgrading "within" 7.x, but my memory is a bit hairy for which version changes involved library file updates in the version 7.x's which came out in 2007.)
Still possible to get this one after an attempt at an upgrade, though. Last case that I can be sure of that I was involved in was in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7229131&#7229131
You're probably right about the source of the error message in this case. I think I was thinking (?) something along the lines of an install of a higher version of iTunes than 6.0.x being required if Diane wanted her iPhone to be recognised by an iTunes version, and that some additional precautions taken when doing the reinstall of the higher version might help with getting the newer software to install properly.
(Sorry, probably all a bit long-winded/off-target with this reply, too.)

  • New computer won't launch iPhoto

Good day all. I just upgraded from an iBook G4 with 10.4.5 to a shiny new iMac with 10.6.6. The Migration Assistant did a nice job of moving all my files over, but there's an issue with iPhoto. When I launch it (or attempt to), it throws an error that says, "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. This library must be upgraded by the iPhoto Library Upgrader application before you can use it with iPhoto. Please reinstall iPhoto from your iLife disc."
Okay, no problem ... except I've done that at least 4 - 5 times, with no success. I removed the preferences files, too. No joy.
The Apple Store rep wants me to bring the machine in. I'd really rather not pack up the 27" computer I just bought and lug it back to the store if I can avoid it. Any better ideas?

What version of iPhoto are you running? You should be at 9.1.1 before trying to open and convert a library from an earlier version.
Open the Info window for the iPhoto Application and see what version it is. If it's not 9.1.1 download the necessary updater from Apple Downloads page, update and try again.

  • My computer keeps re-launching iTunes....ack?

I have an iPad and a PC with iTunes on it.  Recently downloaded iCloud Control Panel and got it all set up to utilize Photostream...all works just fine.
My problem is that Win 7 keeps relaunching iTunes everytime I attempt to close it.  Is this due to an actively running iCloud control panel?  It happens even if I am signed out of iCloud.  I thought that if I could close iCloud (by doing a right click on the system tray icon) I might then be able to close iTunes.  However, I do not see any option anywhere to close iCloud.

Did Apple send me a defective computer? Because this sure as **** isn't my fault since it happened right when I turned it on for the first time.
If that's true, then yes, you have a defective computer.

  • Launching iTunes at Startup using Library on External Hard Drive

I have iTunes set to launch at startup. I just moved my iTunes library to an external hard drive, but now when the computer boots it launches iTunes before the external hard drive can mount. This causes an error message requiring human input.
Is there anyway to reorder this sequence so that iTunes boots after external drives mount?

i had the same problem before i got my new computer i didn't have the room to keep the files on my hard drive so i just moved the music over not the library file its named iTunes library and that is the thing that stores all the library info
also be sure to turn off the move files to iTunes library in settings under "preferences, advanced, general" its a tick box and untick it. when you boot up itunes shouldnt need your imput you just cant play songs untill your external drive mounts.
