My computer won't recognise my ipod shuffle

my computer won't recognise my ipod shuffle

So I recently had this same problem.  My Shuffle 2nd gen would not be recognized by my iTunes.  It had been a few years since i used it and at one point may have been connected to iTunes on a PC.  After several tries at troubleshooting, I realized that maybe the device is corrupted.  Since my iMac would not recognize the Shuffle, I connected to a PC and it appeared as a disk.  I reformatted the Shuffle in FAT32, plugged it back into my iMac and iTunes recognized it just fine but as a new device.  So if you have access to a PC, reformat it there and then try your Mac iTunes again.

  • My computer has stopped recognising my iPod shuffle

I plug it in directly to the USB2 port and it is not recognized. No matter how many days I leave it it does not take a charge. The common pathway to this is the USB connection. All other devices are working perfectly with my USB ports. It is all the more baffling as my iPod shuffle 1GB worked perfectly for about five months. I have spent many hours working through some of the published solutions and I can not seem to find a solution for this. I have updated my iPod software and it still will not recognize my iPod shuffle. It is most disappointing. Please help Apple.

Alright, so here's my story. I bought my 512MB Shuffle in April. It has worked perfectly fine since I got it. Last night, I updated to v1.1.2 of the iPod software, clicked no when it asked if I wanted to restart, added some songs to the iPod, then restarted. As of this morning, I went to listen to some music while out for a bike ride, and I was greeted with the red battery light. I thought it was a bit odd since I had left it plugged in overnight. I figured, what the heck, I'll just plug it in and let it charge when I get back. When I got back, I plugged it into my PC and left for a while. I came back later and went to grab my Shuffle and I noticed it was cold, which was unusual after charging for a couple hours. I plugged it back in, a bit frustrated, and it never came up in Windows. I looked at the iPod plugged into the back of my PC (a high powered USB port) and sure enough, no orange light. No lights at all. I can still slide the switch to one of the play modes (standard play or shuffle) and play music for a couple seconds before it stops and says the battery's dead again. It works.. I mean it turns on and plays music, it's just not charging or mounting when I plug it in. I tried multiple computers and USB ports, none of which worked. I would really like some help with this considering it IS my only source of portable music and I'm not going to go pay $50 to talk to tech support or have it sent in for repairs. That's half of what it's worth.
I've tried uninstalling all iTunes/iPod related software from the PC I normally use it on and reinstalling it. That didn't work. I also tried uninstalling again and installing the last known working version of the iPod software, still no results. The only thing I havn't tried is giving it a good beating... Not that I would. Anyways, I hope there's a solution to this that doesn't involve buying a new one.
Here's a rundown of the computers I tested it with.
    500MHZ G4 Cube (384MB RAM/Mac OSX Tiger)
    400MHZ G3 iMac (384MB RAM/Mac OSX Tiger)
4.2GHZ AMD 64-Bit running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (my PC)
    515MHZ Dell running Windows 2000 (256MB RAM)
UPDATE: The BIOS won't recognize the iPod, so it has nothing to do with my computer. Somehow, installing v1.1.2 of the iPod software made it so the iPod itself has USB problems. The iPod works to the extent of playing music and showing the battery charge level. I get no response at all when I plug it in, from the computer or the iPod.
I'm going to have to agree with Philip Harhay on this one. The original 10GB iPod I bought 3 years ago came with a full one-year warranty, no extra charges. I am disappointed to see the Shuffle only coming with a three-month warranty.

  • Computer won't recognise 2nd ipod

hi, i'm having issues adding another ipod to my system. I already have an ipod mini that i've had for nearly a year now, my brother has just bought an ipod with iphoto. for some reason the computer we share just will not recognise his ipod. it seems to be the usb connection that's causing the problem (although there's nothing wrong with either the cable or the ipod as we've tested both on our mum's laptop), the usb port still recognises my mini but won't even acknowledge that his iphoto is plugged in.
does anyone have any suggestions, am i even making sense?

  • My computer won't recognise my iPod Classic, even in disk mode?

I have a 160GB 6th generation iPod classic and my itunes won't recognise it. When I plug it into my laptop the laptop makes the noise as to say it has a new device connected, but it won't show up in my windows explorer or in my itunes. I have googled it and seen that I can put it into disk mode to try and fix it but when I do that the screen says OK to disconnect, and doesn't change even when I plug it into my computer. The laptop still doesn't recognise it then. I have tried different leads and the computer makes the 'recognises new device' noise with both, but it still doesn't work. The ipod doesn't say it is connected, the charging icon doesn't even come up on the battery on the screen of the ipod but I have left it plugged in and it is charging. I think it's a problem with the iPod as even when I plug it into the plug socket to charge the same thing happens, with no response from the battery icon. The screen does however light up when it's plugged in so the iPod recognises that it is plugged into a charging source, but thats just the backlight coming on and nothing else and it won't let me sync it or anything.
I can't get to an apple store for over 3 weeks as I am home for Easter and there's none near me but any help would be appreciated!!
I have restarted it multiple times, it still doesn't work.

Bump, I have this exact problem.
iPod Classic, 160GB, running the latest OS
Charges, but doesn't display charging icon (no lightning bolt in the top right). Doesn't recognize that it is plugged into the computer, and the computer doesn't recognize it (MacBook Pro, again, latest OS).
I have reset it... twice. And I've put it in disc mode - same results.
It will charge off my computer, but it won't sync, and it hasn't for about a week, so my podcasts are all out of date
    Thanks for the help!

  • My computer won't recognize my iPod Shuffle

I have a iPod shuffle and it won't sync with iTunes nor appear on "My Computer" page.
I've tried 4 different computers, and all I got is the same thing: nothing.
I don't know if I can put in on Disk Mode. If it's possible, please tell me how. If it's not, let's move on.
The cable chargers normally my iPod. So I don't think it's a problem on the cable itself.
    What should I do?

  • Why won't my computer won't recognise my ipod?

I just bought my ipod nano today. At first everything was ok and it was charging while I set up itunes. Then i had to take a phone call and my laptop went on standby.. now my computer wont recognise my ipod at all, and the ipod isn't charging. But the ipod lights up when i plug it into the computer so obviously it recognises the computer. I even tried going into control panel and changing the usb settings but it didn't work! Is the problem with my ipod, the usb connection or my computer?? HELP!!!

    Have you tried resetting the iPod while it's connected? This will often get it to show up. If not, are you on Windows or Mac? Have you seen this;

  • ITunes on new computer won't recognise my iPod and won't sync it

I've used an external hard drive to move my iTunes from my old computer to my new Windows laptop following the instructions on the Apple website. I authorised the computer as it asked. When I try to connect my iPod to the new computer to sync my iTunes again I get this message
"This computer is no longer authorised to play purchased items that are on the iPod "XXXX XXXX". Would you like to authorise this computer for items purchased from iTunes store? I you do not authorise this computer 222 items will be removed from this iPod."
I press authorise and it says that 2 computers are now authorised to use this iTunes library. But once I press Ok the same message comes up again that I haven't authorised it.
I haven't got a clue why this has happened I'm no tech-head and I'm getting really frustrated! Any help would be much appreciated!

It should be working fine. Perhaps your cable has gone bad or the USB port has waffled. Hard to say without trying a few different things.

  • ITunes won't recognise my iPod on USB 2.0, only 1.1

my computer won't recognise my iPod touch 1.1.4 when it is connected via my USB 2.0 PCI card, only when it is plugged in via the motherboards inbuilt USB 1.1 ports. I have plugged it into other computers (all pc's) and it works fine on their USB 2.0 ports.
    What could be causing this?
    cheers.

Try this if you have not already. This removes and reinstalls ALL Apple software and sometimes that is required.

  • TS1368 Computer won't recognise ipod touch

My computer wouldn't recognise my ipod touch in either itunes or my computer, so i then erased it and reset the factory settings and now it just has the "connect to itunes" logo appear on the screen and it is still unrecognisable by my computer.  How can this problem be fixed?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My computer is not recognizing my ipod shuffle.  The computer says to use the ipod reset utility.  When I tried doing this it told me that it was for a 32 bit version which I obviously do not have.  My computer is only a few months old.  What do I do now?

My computer is not recognizing my ipod shuffle.  The computer says to use the ipod reset utility.  When I did that it came up with another message that it was only good for a 32 bit version.  I guess I do not have a 32 bit version.  I just purchased my computer a few months ago and it uses the windows 7 operating system.  What do I do now?

    Not sure if this helps:-
The music files, were they bought from your iTunes account or did someone gift them to you after buying from the iTunes account? If they are yours you can download them again if you clear or de-authorise the ipod, it has to be done by whoever gave you the ipod to do this (the registered  owner). If they were bought for you on another itunes account I don't think Apple let you use them as they are copyrighted and they don't belong to you, they belong to the person who bought them. If the music files where ripped from music cd's then click and drag them to a new folder on your desktop and have the person who gave you the ipod to de-authorise and unregister it. Then you re register it and put your files back from your desktop folder in your iTunes folder and synch. Hopefully that would work.  Any files which you did not buy, I would not know how get around this, best bet is to take it to you nearest Apple  Store and explain that they were gifted to you and ask how you can use them.  The best way to gift music files is to buy the gift tokens and give these. Hope above helps.
