My computer won't register my nano to update

I tried to update my nano but it isn't showing up on iTunes. i have unplugged and replugged many times. closed and reopened iTunes many times. HELP?!

Hi Emily-
The first thing to try is to reset your iPod - hold down the Menu and Select (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo. This will often get it recognized. If it doesn't, see these tips:

My computer won't let me select "automatically update safe downloads list"  What am I doing wrong?

You are correct that is what I'm talking about.  I did install it.
Now I can't get the check box in the preferences security panel under the tab "general" that allows "automatically update safe downloads list" to stay checked.  Each time I unlock and check the box and then relock and close, the check mark disapears.  This is the problem.

  • New computer - won't sync w/Nano

I got a new PC. I put my iTunes library from the old computer onto CDs, loaded them onto iTunes on the new PC. That went fine, but now when I buy new songs from the Music Store, iTunes won't transfer them to my iPod Nano. When I try to sync, I get a message that says those songs were not transferred, because "you're not authorized to play them on this computer." Is there a fix for this?

  • Computer won't turn on after Software Updates

About a month ago my computer had some Windows Updates, I installed them as per usual, it asked to restart the computer, but once it shut down, it wouldn't turn back on. I tried a few different outlets, no change (all of these outlets work). I left it unplugged overnight (8-10 hours) and when I plugged it in the following morning, it turned on and was fine until this past weekend.
Again, there were more updates, this time it was for AVG and when it went to restart, it again wouldn't turn on. I tried the same thing, and it's not coming on. The light by the power button will flash when I push the button, real quick, but nothing. The light in the back shows power going to it.  I believe my computer is in the HP All-in-One 200 family, but I'm not sure which one (and though I've registered it, it doesn't tell me on my account which one I have, or I just can't find it).
Is the motherboard done, maybe the RAM, or the HDD? I don't have the money to get a new computer at the moment so I really want to try and get a few more years out of this one (I have had it for 5 years). Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I always begin with the easiest possible solution.  If you have System Restore enabled, I suggest choosing a Restore point before the first software updates.  This may solve your problem if it is the updates causing the problem.

  • Computer won't boot after last BIOS update from Toshiba.

It was working fine before the update.  Shut down and can't boot; blank screen with blinking cursor.  I have followed the suggestions of getting into the computer but the HDD cannot be found.  Finally got into BIOS but when I run repair I get error: 08-0E89-0000---Partition Creation Failed.  Any help would be greatly appreciately. I have a Satellite A665-S6086 running Win 7 Home 64-bit.

Thanks Peter for your reply but that is a non-issue now as I purchased a new HD WD750 Black to replace the one I was having problems with and the recovery worked fine, so I thought.  When the computer goes to sleep or hibernate, I don't know which the HD fails on waking.  I was going to try recovery again but instead I reseated the HD and it booted.  This has happened a couple times since the initial 'fail' but seems to Restart fine.  but I have only done it once.  Of course all of these problems started after BIOS 2.30 update last week.
BTW I had tried all the steps provided to other members having the same problem (Puppy, recovery disk, pressing 0 and removing battery while holding something down) but was getting nowhere and it seemed to me that all HDs can't all fail at once.  So that's why I added the part about the BIOS update that no one seemed to acknowledged.  computer working, install update and restart and the HD failed; yes to me it was questionable.  Additionally, judging by some of the repair technics it is assumed that we members are more advanced or that buy our recovery disk will fix the problem but it does not fix every problem especially if the HD is not recognized. But what do I know.

  • Computer won't start up after mavericks update

My mb was due for an update, not sure if it did the update, but now when I try to start it up, it just goes to the gray screen with the apple and spinning wheel, then to a black screen with the mouse and nothing happens. Can't get it to start up and don't know why???? Just had a new HD put in two months ago. Any suggestions?

Startup your Mac while holding down the Option key.
That should launch the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk then click Restart.
If that doesn't work, try a Safe Mode boot.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
See if your Mac boots normally.

  • New computer won't take songs from ipod, how to register new computer?

My hard drive crashed, I had to buy a new one. All my songs were on my old drive. Except for what is in my ipod. I bought a new hard drive, but haven't had the $$ to have files removed from old drive yet. Installed itunes onto new drive, plugged in Ipod and it says it will either replace all 400 songs from my pod with the 1 song in my new itunes, or it can only take itunes purchased songs from my pod, which is only about 5% of my songs on my pod at the moment. How do I register my new pod to my new harddrive??? Help!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
The transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • My iPod said that it needed to do an update but halfway thru it stopped and said there was an error and now it's stuck with the apple and an empty loading bar. Also it won't register with my computer. Help?

I plugged in my iPod and it needed an update. Before the update could complete it said there was an error and then closed the window. Now my iPod is stuck in the loading screen and won't register in iTunes. Please Help.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iTouch won't turn on and the computer doesn't register it when plugged in.

The screen never went white or crashed, it just won't turn on. I tried plugging it into the computer but it won't register and the base of the iPod near the plug area got really hot. I don't know what's wrong with it or what to do. Help please?

Any charging icon when the iPod Touch get connected?
If no, you can let the iPod Touch connected with any power source, such as computer usb port, then press and hold the "sleep / wake" and "Home" button at the same time until you can see an Apple icon on the screen (usually take around 20 seconds)
Maybe you have to send it to Apple if still won't switched on.

  • Computer won't recognize Nano after downloading updated ITunes

I updated ITunes and my Video IPod works fine, but my husband's IPod Nano (1st G) now does not exist as far as my computer is concerned. The Nano works fine and charges when I hook it up to the computer through its USB cord, but my computer won't recognize it. Could this be a problem with the new ITunes update?

I posted this elsewhere, but perhaps it fits best here....
I am having this same issue, except in my house, we have 2 nanos- 1 is recognized and 1 is not. Hopefully someone can figure out what's going on.

My computer won't recognize my iPOD Touch even though it does recognize my Clasic and Nano. Any suggestions?

Well, now I feel like an idiot. I was using TWO CORDS. Ya, don't make my mistake. The one I had a problem with was made by a company that was not apple, and it was for CHARGING. I bought it with charger, and that's all it can do. It doesn't send data like the real cable. So, check your usb cables. :S
