  • Ipod touch 2nd gen wont restore! Stuck in recovery mode

I wanted to update my ipod so I downloaded the neweset version of itunes, plugged in my ipod and it automatically said it needed to update the software. So I did, after about an hour when I thought it was almost finished, it said the update could not finish due to an unknown error. Then it said it detected an ipod in recovery mode and I needed to restore it. So I clicked on restore, it says its preparing the ipod for restore for about 15-20 minutes then says "ipod could not restore unknown _error 2003_. And now all I get is the screen showing itunes icon and usb plug goin towards it. I've tried unpluggin it and pluggin back in, I've made sure I'm using the latest version of itunes. Everything was fine before I plugged it in to update it. I dont care if I cant update it, I just want it back the way it was! Please help!!

Try using RecBoot to get it out of recovery mode.

So I thought it didn't have battery so I charged it didn't work. I plugged to the computer and it said iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before in can be used with iTunes.

  • Solution for Windows users who repeatedly get "iPod in Recovery Mode".

If you are repeatedly receiving this message using iTunes 7 on Windows when connecting your Nano (it may be with other models, I can't test that), Windows may be assigning a drive letter that is already in use. This is particularly common for networked computers with mapped drives. For example, when I connected my Nano, I got the message above. No matter how many times I tried to restore it, I received the same message. Turns out, Windows was mapping the Nano to F:, which was already a mapped network drive in Windows. This is NOT a bug with the Nano or iTunes, it could happen to pretty much any removable drive. To fix this:
    - Open Disk Manager (Right click on 'My Computer', select 'Manage', then select 'Disk Management' under 'Storage').
    - Locate your iPod and right click on it. Select 'Change Drive Letter and Paths'.
    - Remove the current drive letter assignment by clicking 'Remove'.
    - Add a new drive letter assignment by selecting 'Add', and choosing an available drive letter that is not currently in use, and is not being used by another removable device.
On my computer, I have several removable drives, as well as several network mapped drives. My USB backup drive is B:, my thumb drive is T:, and now my iPod is I:. I don't know why I didn't think of this solution sooner.
If you need any help, reply here. I'll see what I can do.

I am still getting the same 'ipod in recovery mode' after trying this solution.
on my ipod it says there are 0 songs and 0 photos but there is only 46 MB of memory left out of the 856 available.
I have tried the method a couple of times and tried resetting the ipod many times but the same messages appear.
    Help!! please

  • ITunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode loop

    Hello,
I have an Ipod 5 and during update of the OS to the latest, the process got an error.
No my Ipod is in recovery mode. Everytime I download the Update (Restore and update) there is this constant pop up that comes up (iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode).
I click ok everytime but then after 5h download there is the Processing file part which when I click ok on the pop that constantly keeps coming after some it, all stops and I need to restart the process again for 5h. Keeps going on like that.
Its really annoying stuck in an update like that which only a minor patch. I can't use my ipod for days now.
    Could you please help.
    Thanks
    Jérémie

Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .

  • 'iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode' loop. Help?

On Friday I plugged in my iPod touch (4g) to download the new ios 5 (from 4.3.5), but about when it reached about 4 minutes remaining, the error message 'iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore the iPod before using it with iTunes.' appeared. I've tried restoring it about 10 times now, the closest being  just 2 seconds away from finishing.
The iPod has the screen on the usb pointing to the iTunes symbol.
It does NOT show up under computer, or under disk management, so I don't know if i can change the drive letter. If there are alternatives, please let me know!
I've tried using another computer and different users - all of which comes up with the same error, so I'm thinking that it is the iPod that is the issue.
When i attempt to restore it it says it should take around 15 minutes, but usually the error comes up within the last 5 minutes.
The iPod info just says Name: iPod
                                      Capacity: n/a
                                      Software version: n/a
                                      Serial number: n/a
Really don't know what to do, any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately not yet. Any thoughts on this are useful...
