When I tried to download my new songs to my iphone, itunes said it had to erase all my old songs in order to install the new songs. Is there a way to install new songs without getting rid of my old songs?

That is the way the iphone works.
You need to copy everything from your backup copy of your computer.

1600 songs... it depends the individual size of each track. Not all tracks take up the same storage space.
If you want to have all 1600 tracks on one iPod, you need a larger iPod.

The banner usually indicates that the memo is "Paused." If you go back into voice memos, touch the word "Done" beside the big red pause button, give it a name, then it will show in a list. Touch the memo in the list then touch the trash can icon that should appear.
