My contact list is in a mess, thanks to ios 7 FaceTime.

Before ios 7, we have a choice to FaceTime the number or email. Now, we don't have the choice, it's up to FaceTime to decide which to call.
So in order to call a particular person on their email or phone, I have to create a new contact that only has his email or phone. Some of my friends have multiple numbers due to the reason that they travel a lot. So I have to create multiple contacts for them. Now that I have multiple contacts for many of my close contacts, it's annoying to scroll through the long name lists for the same person. I felt like technology going backwards where we can't combine contacts.
Now that apple forces everyone to upgrade to ios 7, it becomes more problematic for my parents who aren't very good in technology. They get so confused. I left my ipad home for my children which my parents can reach. But now they can't because FaceTime kept connecting to me.
Sometimes I don't understand why apple implement certain crazy rules like this. I feel like being back to child time when parents set certain rules for me to follow.

So, I guess my iPhone upgraded without me being aware. But nevertheless I am now running iOS 7.0.4.
I've noticed the last few days that I'm encountering sporadic contact disappearance. I'll get a text, the notification shows their name, maybe a few minutes later i'll go to read the full message and now no name, just a number. I'll look and ALL my contacts are gone. the conversation screen has nothing but numbers and the favorites under phone are just numbers. Search can still work by name though so the phone "knows" that joe is 555-5555, but is not showing the connection.
TEMPORARY WORKING FIX:
Turning off contacts in my icloud settings and choosing to delete the contacts on my phone, then re-enabling contacts will pull them all back down for me. This of course takes about 5-10 minutes for everything to sync back to the phone.
I've tried restarting the phone.
I've tried resetting the phone.
I don't feel like wasting my time with a backup unless I can downgrade to something before 7.0.4 as it is obvioiusly buggy.
I am NOT going to set up as a new phone until this becomes a much bigger problem.
I hope this offers insight to others encountering this bug. My mother has had this happen on her phone as well. Please comment at least if you experience this. the more people that have it, the less chance apple can play it off as an isolated event on my phone.

hi all i upgraded to io6 few nights ago, since then my contacts list is a complete mess! I have all my facebook contacts, all my email address's.....i dont want these i just want all my phone numbers but they are no where to be seen...any advice will be fab, many thanks Nikki

My contact list is "stuck" on my FaceTime screen blocking half the image. Thoughts?

This happened when I went to my contacts list to initiate a facetime call and at the same moment a facetime call from another party came in and I answered it. Now I can't get rid of the contacts list from half of the video screen on facetime. Any thoughts on how to make it disappear without losing all my contacts? Thanks.

PS: Making a face time call from this contacts list makes it disappear only for the duration of the call. When I hang up, it reappears.

Change your iCloud Apple ID password as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5624. After changing it, save your photo stream photos to your camera roll (tap Edit, tap all the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll), then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted, then sign back in with your new password. (Deleting the account will only delete the account and your synced data from your phone, not from iCloud. Your data will be synced back to your phone when you sign back in.)
Changing the password for your iCloud ID should disable access by anyone else. After doing so, you can go to icloud.com and delete their information from your account.

Normally they do not -- but I assume that my photos and contacts can disappear at any time for any reason and act accordingly even when not doing an update. This and other forums have hundreds of posts of lost pictures and lost contacts caused by all sorts of situations and issues.
In addition to backing up to iCloud or via iTunes, I would recommend that you import the pictures to your computer if you have one: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 and that you sync your contacts http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296

My iphone 4 will not download contact list on mercedes audio 20 BT via pbap

I have a new mercedes class B with an Audio 20 system. The indications are to sync contact list via PBAP which my iphone 4 (ios 5.1.1) supposedly supports. It works fine with my husband's iphone 4S but not with my iP4. Any idea?

It was replaced by apple before my applecare had expired, which is kind of why I didnt renew it, I figured I was pretty set after it was repaired.
Also have a slight update, it would finally die after I was on it for a while plugged in, and after it died I plugged it back in and the low battery symbol came on and after about 5 minutes it came back on at 3% with still no charge symbol. I left it plugged in all night and when I woke up it was at 100%, so it finally charged! But when I plugged it back in to see it it was fixed, still not seeing any charge symbol or signs of it charging, its sitting on the charger right now, hopefully it will charge before my flight in the morning...
Is it a common thing to have it not charge right away? Is that an electronic error, or...? And will apple look at it if my applecare is up...or will I have to pay?

Help. My iPhone contact list is a mess.

I use the iPhone's "mail" App to connect to my Outlook, Yahoo mail, Gmail and also sync with my MacBook. Now the address books from all 4 sources are on my iPhone and they are all separate entries. I kind of expected the iPhone "Contacts" would have merged those entries during the import process or at least prompt me to merge them. No, it just silently created a mess for me.
I have heard about some 3rd party apps that will merge contact list entries. I have also heard that some apps are secretly stealing user info without telling their users. So I am shy away from downloading apps to perform tasks that Apple should have done.
Can someone tell me a way to clean up the mess by using Apple's tools alone?
Perhaps I can sync all the entries into my MacBook's Address Book first and do the clean up on the MacBook.
Then from one consolidated source, I can update my Outlook, Yahoo Mail, Gmail and iPhone afterwards.
But does Address Book support a merge function?
Please give me step by step instructions if you know how to do these. (both merging and they redistributing the list)

If you encrypted the backup, there is no way around it. You will need to configure your iPhone as a new device.
From iTunes: About iOS backups:
In the iTunes Summary screen, select "Encrypt iPhone backup" if you want to encrypt the information stored on your computer when iTunes makes a backup. Encrypted backups are indicated by a padlock icon, and a password is required to restore the information to iPhone. You may want to write down the password for your backup and store it in a safe place. If you use a Mac, when you set a password you can select to store the password in the keychain. With iOS 4 and later, you can transfer the iOS keychain backup to a new device if you encrypt the backup.
Warning: If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore, choose set up as a new device.

Do you mean forward one number only? If that's what you want then no, you cannot. You can use call forwarding to forward all calls, but not selected contacts only. I'd add that would be a function of the carrier to, as when you activate call forwarding it sets the switch on your account with the carrier, and their hardware handles the call forwarding (i.e. the phone itself has nothing to do with actually forwarding calls or not - it is the carriers equipment that manages that - all the phone can do is tell the carriers system to forward calls, or not).

iTunes only keeps one backup, every new backup replaces the old one, only backups used to restore from are not overwritten and marked with a time stamp.
If you can't find any other backup in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, your contact info's are gone. Only if you included the backup folder in your computer backup routine, you would be able to restore the old backup folder containing the latest backup at that time.

Newly added contacts don't appear in my contact list.

I recently upgraded from a iPhone 3GS to a 4S. When I add a new contact on my phone it does not appear in my contact list. If I go to a new text message and type the name it appears as a suggestion and I can select it that way. I'm unable to edit the contact as it does not appear under my contact list. I have synced in through iTunes and even restored it. The numbers still do not show up in the contact list. I've also attempted to log into iCloud and the names do not appear there either. I've turned the contacts off under the iCloud settings and nothing changed. I still cannot see my newly added contacts in my contact list. Please help as I have tried everything I know and have no luck. It alsmot feels as though my numbers are being added to a "hidden" place. Thanks in advance!

I've never done a sync with any program other than iTunes and iCloud. My groups are displayed in the left corner and they are all selected (I acutally just made up the groups today while messing with this whole issue so there aren't even contacts added to groups yet) and showing.

Contact list for phone number of previous Apple ID still showing!

I hope someone has an answer for this. I'm on my work computer, and my boss previously had his Apple ID linked to iCloud, the App Store, and Internet Accounts. I disabled sync from his ID on this computer for everything other than Find My Mac, but his contacts were still showing up in the auto-fill portion when messing around in iMessage. Today, we decided that I should just log out of his Apple ID for everything and log in with mine. I updated to Yosemite as well, logged out of his ID in the App Store, iCloud, and Internet Accounts. His Apple ID is nowhere to be found. I logged into everything under my Apple ID and was attempting to use iMessage. When I begin to type a name into the "To:" section of a new message, it still tries to autofill people from his contacts list. If I check under messages>window>contacts, the only two contacts that appear (as always) are my name and his, the two user accounts on this computer. Is this just some glitch? Why on earth are his contacts still pulling up for auto-fill? He has never once even used iMessage on this computer, so it's not like they could be in there for some reason due to previously entering them. I currently don't have my contacts synced from my Apple ID because I'm concerned that it will somehow mesh our two actual contact lists together on our phones or something crazy that we absolutely don't want. Anyone experience anything similar or have any ideas? I wish I could contact Apple Support but I refuse to pay $30 for something like this.

You can try with this:
Make a new user for you with Administrative power
Take backup of the old user files
Delete the old user
Another solution is there but it is not a good solution I think. You can format and clean install OS.

Hi Jon-Ren: I had recently updated my Iphone 4s software to the latest one. and prior to this update, I did have the same issue of not being able to add or delete to my contact. I don't want to use my Icloud because it will overwrite the new contacts that was in my iphone. my icloud have old contact info which I don't like to overwrite into my iphone contact. I have tried that before and it mess up my iphone contact which prompted me to restore everything from scratch. it's a pain in the butt. I hope someone can find a solutions to these issue. I've viewed all the commenst above and I have done them all without any resolutions. I've been contemplating to give up on buying apple product(s) in the near future because of these issues. Hope somebody can share their experiences and help resolve this issue. I'm sure I am not the only one having this problem. Thanks...

Unable to search successfully on Company field in a Contact list - SharePoint 2013 online

When searching for a company in a contact list, I get NO search results when the line items returned should be abundant.
I am using SharePoint 2013 Online with an Office 365 E3 license. I am the global administrator as well as site collection owner.
Since Company is an existing site collection column, I went to its managed property in the SharePoint Administration portal. I went to Search > Manage Search Schema > Managed properties and opened CompanyOWSTEXT in order to click the Searchable checkbox.
All items were grayed out and unable to be edited. The Searchable check box was UNCHECKED.
Why am I unable to edit that property?
How can I ensure that the Company field is crawled and can return search results?
