My contacts disappear after going to "Groups" on iPhone 5

Every time I press the "Groups" button under Contacts, all of my contacts disappear.  Any ideas?

I have the exact same issue. It, too, resolved when I turned Contacts off in my iphone 5 ICloud settings. When asked,  I chose to Keep the Contacts on my phone and then selected the Merge option when I turned Contacts back on. I also had checked my Groups before I noticed that 12 Contacts were not syncing from the cloud to my phone. I think it's a glitch with the Cloud or with the iOS 6 Contacts app, not with us, personally. I wonder if Apple is aware of this.

After upgrading to Windows 8.1 received message "The set of folders cannot be opened.  The information store could not be opened."  When opening the iCloud contacts in Outlook 2010.  I performed the fix of signing out of the iCloud control panel and back in to resolve the above error message and was able to access my addresses.  However, all of the iCloud Group contacts disappeared from Outlook and from iCloud.  Is there any way to restore the iCloud contacts back to a point when the Group contacts still existed.

     Hi @Tomhum2010 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 14t-1200 CTO Beats Edition Notebook PC and issues after an Windows 8.1 update. I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults. You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings which should resolve the fan issue.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system. If the drivers are not updated this could cause this same issue.
If that does not help at the end of the document it shows you to do a hardware test.
Please note remove any and all USB devices before troubleshooting. Disconnect all non-essential devices
    Hope this helps you out.

  • My iPad contacts disappeared after adding a contact

My IPad 2 contacts just disappeared after adding a contact. What will I do aside from syncing? Are there any other solutions?

Upon purchase of my iPad 2 I began saving contacts to my IPad Contacts application that is already set up upon purchase of iPad 2.   I then learnt about synching ( push ) my Gmail contacts to the Ipad 2 contacts 'exchange'.   I did this happily and was very pleased with the results however when synching the first time I chose not to delete my iPad 2 contacts I had began saving upon purchase.   This meant upon opening 'contacts' I had three choices 'iPad contacts', 'Exchange contacts' or 'All contacts'.   There is no way to save ipad contacts directly to the 'Exchange contacts' it has to be saved into a file or vcard and then imported in using e-mail or a PC.
A few days in to using push/exchange I also added calendar and notes to the push/exchange as I was happy with the contacts and e-mail.   I did notice some glitches since doing using push/exchange although I think it began when initially I began pushing contacts/mail there may be a slight chance that it began when I turned on calendar and notes facility to the push/exchange. The glitches that began meant sudden blinking during or after saving in calendar, contacts and notes.   Sometimes this would mean the item added was there but also sometimes it would mean that it was not.   Also double entries began arriving on both m iPad and in my Gmail Contacts online.   These were a mix of contacts that I had and had not not created or edited since acquiring my iPad 2 so the was no pattern or obvious reason.   They were all also a mix of contacts from different groups saved in my Gmail contacts.
Today suddenly whilst adding a contact the contacts blinked shut again.   I re-opened to see what had happened wondering if my contact had been saved or not however not only did what I add not get saved but all approx 500 contacts from both my iPad contacts and my Exchange Contacts vanished from my iPad 2.   I opened and closed the contacts to see if they would return but there was nothing.   I also hibernated and then later shut down and restarted the iPad many times to no avail.   I checked my Gmail Contacts account and thankfully all my contacts were still there.   However, it was still extremely frustrating to have everything vanish from my iPad and then not just come back from there especially as he e-mails and calendar seemed to be still working fine with Exhange/push.   Also, why had the contacts saved to the IPad contacts directly vanished also ?!!   For a £800 gadget not including accessories it really is unacceptable !!!
Finally what worked for me was going to 'Settings', then going to 'mail, contacts, calendars' and then selecting the 'exchange' account and then switching 'contacts' to 'off', then I selected 'delete' iPad contacts i.e delete the contacts saved in the iPad contacts group however with nothing there to lose this time and having a feeling that perhaps that may have contributed to the issues/glitches and this contacts vanishing I clicked on the 'delete'.   I really do have a feeling that perhaps the issues may have been due to having two sets of contacts even though there were only a few there in the iPad before they vanished along with the Exchange contacts.   I clicked 'done' and then I didn't hibernate the iPad 2 instead I shut it completely down.
Upon restarting my iPad 2 I went to see if the contacts had returned but unfortunately once again they had not.   I returned to 'settings', then 'mail, contacts, calendars' and then selected 'exchange' from accounts and switched 'contacts' back on i.e enabled this once again and clicked done.   I then once again switched off ( shut down ) my iPad 2 and waited a while.   Upon restarting I again went back to contacts and found some of my contacts finally arrive but not all.   My 'push/'fetch' for exchange is set to every 15 minutes and every push/fetch showed me more and more contacts until finally I had all but one which has still not showed up !   However, I am once again happy and this time I only have one contacts group I.e for exchange and no separate iPad contacts to confuse me or iPad.   I don't know if this will mean all will be okay now as I do feel like perhaps I cannot now trust iPad contacts and maybe need to print out everything and keep this on me also just in case. I'll keep you posted !

  • Why did contacts disappear after backup

I backed up the ipad, and after that, all of the contacts were gone.  They are still there, because if you start to type a name in mail, the address automatically completes.  But you cannot see the contacts in the contact list.
How can they be restored to be viewable?

This is the mail app remembering addresses and it has nothing to do with your contacts in the contacts app. This works independently of the contacts app.
If you backed up the iPad and the contacts disappeared, that's not a good thing because the way that you retrieve the contacts is to restore from a backup.

  • Contacts Disappear when moved between Groups

I work within Outlook 2007 on my PC. When I move my icloud contacts from one group to another, those contacts disappear totally. They are no longer even in the "Master" contact list. Are they gone forever or is there a way to retrieve them? And is there a way to prevent it from happening again?

I had the same issue as you did -- for a few weeks now I've been suffering through agonizingly slow Contacts performance.
The way I resolved it was:
    1) Quit Contacts
    2) Go to system preferences and go into iCloud, then uncheck contacts -- choosing to delete from mac.
    3) Go into system preferences and to Internet Accounts and again uncheck contacts under any of the accounts it's enabled on (gmail, yahoo, etc).
    4) Go to your user's library folder (easiest way is to open a finder window, hold down the option key on the keyboard and from the Go menu, select Library).
    5) Delete anything referring to Address book or com.apple.address book....   -- check these folders in particular:
         - Address Book
         - Application Support
         - Caches
         - Preferences
    6) Restart your computer
    7) Go back into System preferences and enable contacts from wherever you want (iCloud, etc.)
    8) If it's not quite enabling (appears to enable, but checkbox doesn't show), then do one more restart of the computer.
    9) Now open Contacts and allow it to sync

  • Why have my Address Book contacts disappeared after uploading to iCloud?

I am using my MacBook Pro w/OSX Lion.
After having many, many problems with contacts, calendars and bookmarks in MobileMe, migrating to iCloud, encountering a huge mess of duplicates and even completely missing contacts I decided to start over.  So I disabled the iCloud account on all Macs and IOS devices.  I then ensured all contacts, calendars and bookmarks were deleted from the MacBook Pro.  I then used the Address Book export I'd made just prior to the migration from Mobile Me to iCloud and imported this onto my MacBook Pro.  I've completely gone though the Address Book and removed or merged duplicates and cleaned up all contacts with detail.  I backed up my Address Book again at this point.  I then logged into iCloud.com using my original Apple User ID (NOT the MobileMe/me.com account which I'm going to vacate) and ensured that there were no contacts in the cloud and I deselected the default calendars here as well.  My intention was/is to begin by starting small and deal only with the MacBook Pro Address Book and iCloud Contacts.  So after I confirmed there is no data in the cloud I go into the MacBook Pro System Preferences > iCloud > Account Details ensuring I was signed out of the me.com user and entered my original Apple ID I've had since I started using iTunes many years back.  I quit the browser and the Address Book and verified the non me.com user was saved under the System Preferences.  I then selected Contacts under these iCloud System Preferences and I was asked If I wanted to merge my contacts with those in the cloud.  Because there were no contacts in the cloud I selected yes.  The spinning indicator indicated that the upload was occurring.  Now, there are no contacts in the cloud and the Address Book contacts are missing.  Thinking that my doing the Address Book backup may have removed all the data from the Address Book, I deselected Contacts in the iCloud System Preferences, reimported the backup into Address Book that I'd just done, confirmed the contacts I just imported appear in Address Book and I reselect Contacts in the iCloud System Preferences and again I get the spinning indicator.  Again, there are no Contacts in the cloud and the contacts are missing from Address Book.
What the heck am I doing wrong?  I've simplified my original attempt with iCloud by concentrating my efforts to just contacts AND I'm only using the MacBook and the iCloud cloud and I've still got problems.  I thought this approach would narrow down where the issue lies and allow me to monitor the process more easily but I seem to be worse off than before I'd tried to resolve the initial migration problems because now I have no contacts.
I'm new to Macs so if you have a solution, please help and please give specifics because I'm still learning the structure and don't understand a lot of the acronyms and jargon.
    Thanx

If you have a back up file, I'd try turning off iCloud contact syncing on all macs from system preferences > iCloud –
    DONE
as well as any secondary accounts from system preferences > mail, contacts and calendars –
DONE (this was confusing but I figured out that you meant System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars which is what you said in lowercase.  For some reason without the capital letters I didn't clue in that Mail, Contacts and Calendars was an icon option under the System preferences and so I overlooked it multiple times. I see your use of "secondary account" which I note used also as a term in the User Tip link you referred me to view.  Although, I still don't understand what this 'secondary' account is, I'm not interested in any secondary accounts because I've got my hands full with just iCloud for now. I did delete all accounts under the Mail, Contacts & Calendars).
If you have any iOS devices I'd do the same on those as well. –
DONE (not even introducing other Macs or IOS devices to the equation until I get the iCloud and MacBook syncing contacts correctly)
I'd log into iCloud.com and check my Address Book was empty and empty it if necessary –
    DONE (it was empty already)
and then delete all contacts from every Address Book on every device
             DONE
Then I'd turn Address Book syncing back on –
DONE (This assuming that by ‘turn back on’ you mean System Preferences > iCloud and check marking the box next to Contacts)
and import my contacts from the backup file –
DONE (This assuming that by ‘import my contacts’ you mean importing the previously exported Address Book back up file back into the Address Book. I see contacts listed in the Address Book when I did this.)
No syncing seems to happen at this point?
you might also take a look at this User Tip, to ensure you understand the differences between the different accounts in Address Book before adding the contacts back.
I did read this but understand is probably not an accurate term for my interpretation of what I read.  I get that On My Mac will not sync with what is in the cloud and iCloud will sync with the cloud.  In Address Book under the single head red ribbon I see neither account heading that is mentioned.  I also was not asked at the time of import to select which ‘account’ I’d like the contacts setup under.
    A) If there is no indication as to what Address Book account the contacts fall under, how does on find this out?
    User Tips states
Your Address Book when synced with iCloud will have more than one account.
My assumption is that I'm not synced with iCloud if I don't see either account option listed. I also would think that if I'm not synced and thus don't have more than one account then perhaps the All Contacts default to an On My Mac account but don't reflect an account heading of 'On My Mac’ as seen on the screen shot of the User Tips example.
    Furthermore, User Tips also states
    Default Account
Your 'default'account is set in address book preferences > general (the option is only displayed if you have more than one account).
It would seem relevant to list which account your defaulted to even if you do not have more than one account because elsewise how are you supposed to know which account it is setup under?
    B)  How do you change which ‘account’ your contacts are setup under if they are under the wrong account?
Assuming again that my contacts are ‘On My Mac’, then how do I move them to the ‘iCloud’ account of which is not listed?
    C)  Will any of this be affected by groups?
The five listings under All Contacts are groups that I set up as a sort of invitation list (so Christmas cards is one I’d probably setup this time of year).  Although this question is secondary I would like to confirm that my interpretation of groups is accurate.  I understand groups to be a sort of tagging of selected contacts from All Contacts but that the contacts in these groups are not duplicates to those in All Contacts. Is this correct?  I ask because the User Tips states
To quickly duplicate a contact, drag it to your desktop, navigate to 'Groups', select the account you wish to duplicate to, double click the contact on your desktop.
When reading this tip, I interpret that dragging and dropping contacts from All Contacts into a group would be similar to what is suggested in this tip which would indeed ‘duplicate’ the contact.  I did drag and drop when I setup my groups so I’m concerned I duplicated the contacts in Address Book.  I do not see two copies of the same contact under All Contacts though.
By the way, don't take it personally –
I don't, I have reading difficulties galore and am happy to accommodate if I can.  I hope this is better. Helping you helps me if you're not struggling to read when thinking about the solution.
    Thanx

  • IPhone contacts disappeared after update to 4.1.

Updated my iPhone 3G to 4.1 a few days ago and now all my contacts have disappeared. I let iTunes backup my phone before the update and I can see the backup in Preferences but how do I use the backup? I'd be very grateful for some help - I recently lost all my mobile me mail and it can't be restored, so I am feeling a bit fed up. Thank you anyone.

Regardless if you don't have a MobileMe account, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer and should be available on your computer with or without an iPhone or any cell phone. Not a good idea to depend on an iPhone or any cell phone alone for contacts, which can be lost or stolen.
Although photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll are included with your iPhone's backup, photos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Contacts are also included with your iPhone's backup.
If you haven't synced your iPhone with iTunes since installing 4.1, you can try restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup. Do not sync your iPhone with iTunes before doing so and when prompted to update your iPhone's backup with iTunes after selecting Restore, decline this prompt or your iPhone's backup will be overwritten.

  • Address Book contacts disappeared after Mac OS X 10.4.8 upgrade

I opened my address book this morning to find it blank except for me and Apple. I did not delete anything at any time - the only thing I can think that happened between now and the last time everything was there was the 10.4.8 upgrade process.
The library/application support/address book directory on my home directory contains the following files (I didn't create them):
    ABPerson.skIndexInverted (created yesterday)
    ABPerson.skIndexInverted.285
    ABSubscribedPerson.skIndexInverted
    AddressBook.data
AddressBook.data.previous (created yesterday, later than above)
Please help get my contacts back!
Not newbie - but I thought updates were supposed to be transparent.
Promise faithfully to execute backup in future.

    researchta:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If If yo can't get the machine to boot into OS X try booting into Single User Mode and run the File System Check to repair the HD as follows:
    FSCK - File System Check
To start up in single-user mode
    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold both the Command (Apple) and "s" keys on your keyboard. The computer will display a series of text messages, at which time you may release these keys.
When the computer has started up, it will display a command line prompt (#). The computer is now in single-user mode.
How to Run the File System Check from the Command Line
Once you have reached a command line, follow these steps to use fsck:
    1. At the prompt, type: fsck -fy (NOTE, there is a space between the k and the “-”)
The fsck utility will go through five "phases" and then return information about the disk's utilization and fragmentation. Once the check is finished, if no issue is found, you should see "** The volume <name of volume> appears to be OK."
If fsck alters, repairs, or fixes anything, it will display the message:
**** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***
IMPORTANT: If this message appears, repeat the "fsck -fy" command until this message no longer appears. It is not unusual for your computer to require several "passes" of fsck, because first-pass repairs may uncover additional errors. Run it until you get two consecutive times with an "OK" result.
    3. When fsck reports that no problems were found, type: reboot
    4. Press Return.
If this gets you to a normal boot the try the 10.4.8 COMBO updater as baltwo suggested. Good luck.

  • Contacts Disappearing after 3.0 and 3.01 update

After i updated to 3.0 my contacts were fine but after a couple of days i noticed a few contacts missing. Then the next day about 95% of them were gone from my contact list. They weren't completely erased because i can still see them in my "recents" file. I can also look up the same contacts through the new "spotlight" feature but they're simply not showing up in my contacts list. It seems okay until i need to compose an email or text and i cant because there are only about 6 names i can choose from in my contact list. I thought it may just come back after a hard reset but it didn't. I then decided to restore it. Luckily i was able to look up each contact through spotlight still so i painstakingly searched through each letter and transferred the ones that weren't in my address book on my macbook. I then restored it and everything seemed fine up until today. Now i noticed the same thing is starting over again. A few contacts are missing and i can look them up through spotlight but they are no in my contact list. Is anyone having this specific problem or have any advice how to correct it? Or did you just call Apple Support? This is just lame. This is probably the most basic of functions for a PHONE period if it can't keeps my contacts in line really what good is it?

i used to have a MobileMe acct a long time ago. I cancelled it beginning of last year. The last time i restored my phone i then synced it with my contacts on my address book on my Mac. As far as i know they are all available to sync. The thing i even try save a new contact after a friend called me but it still is doing the same thing it will not show up in the contact list but it will in spotlight. hmmm...

  • How to prevent contacts disappearing after FW upda...

Hi all, I would like to know how to prevent all contacts from vanishing after firmware update, can contacts be saved on memory card & retrieved or restored ? I have over 300 contacts & it would be a pain in the a** to restore it one at a time, thanks.

    a) back them up in your pc with PC Suite / SVI Cuite, and in the SD Card
    b) Copy them all in your SIM Card (if not already recorded there instead of the phone memory

  • Phone Contacts Disappeared after 2.1 update-- What happened???

Can anyone tell me what I did wrong in syncing for the latest update?

Same happened to me - I'm syncing my iPhone with a MS Exchange account via UMTS. I just upgraded to iPhone 2.1, and every single contact and every single calendar entry had disappeared from my iPhone. Is that intended behaviour of this system? And, moreover, doing a restore afterwards from within iTunes didn't change anything. Pure emptiness.
Does anyone have a clue? Also, does anyone know, if backup has a history? If yes, where is it stored?

  • Yahoo contacts disappeared after 5.1 update

I have a weird issue that I am trying to figure out.  I updated wirelessly yesterday from 5.01 to 5.1.  Initially, everything was good.  Today, however, I found that my Yahoo Contacts are all gone.  My Exchange contacts are still present though.  Also note, that I sync my Yahoo contacts, mail, calendar, etc...wirelessly (not through iTunes).  Aside from my Yahoo Contacts not being present everything else seems normal.  I ran through some of the basics to see if I could fix the issue but still have not been able to make progress.  I did the following:
Deleted My Yahoo Contacts (carddav.address.yahoo.com) and readded.
Toggled off/on/off Contacts under the regular Yahoo app (mail, calendar, notes, etc...)
Deleted my Exchange account and readded.
    Rebooted multiple times.
I guess the last resort would be to delete my Yahoo account and then re-add it.  I don't think this would do it though because I already had my Yahoo Contacts syncing via my Yahoo carddav account.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I and others have the same problem, see https://discussions.apple.com/message/17818516#17818516.
I have e-mailed Yahoo technical support including the links to these discussions.

  • Contact disappear after you add it on yor contact list.

i save a phone number from my messages (new message). then I lock the screen and go back to my message that number is not saved as it does not show the number and go into contacts and it is not there.
i save a number by adding plus button on rtop- right hand side of iphone contacts and same thing as above happens.
i save a contact by pressing the plus sign on contact list then look at my screen for 5 sec, then it redirect me to the contact list and that contact that i saved it is not even there.

Check and make sure if you have any mail accounts set up on the device that could be overriding the contact that you're adding. If you're using iCloud and share the same apple ID with someone they could be deleting the contact that you added off of their device.
