They might actually be the same Apple ID. When you have an email and use it to log into iCloud it will create an iCloud alias for you. I have an @live.no appleID, which also has an @iCloud.com alias that are otherwise identical.
If you log into applied.apple.com with the @gmail.com account you should see the @iCloud.com as an "alternate" email address.
You might also have created a new iCloud account/Apple ID when you used iCloud the first time. Then this @iCloud.com will not be connected to you @gmail.com address or any other mail addresses. You can then log out of that Apple ID at Settings>iCloud and log in with this @gmail.com Apple ID and sync contacts.

And make sure the Mute box is not selected.

I'm a bit confused by your post.
When you delete a contact, I assume it is no longer listed in the Contacts app, right?
When a send a text, what exactly do you mean "they are still there"? Can you then go back into contacts and find the contact listed again?
Are you syncing contacts via icloud to several devices that you own?

Strange Problem: Apps disappeared for no apparent reason

I updated my 3GS the first day the 4.0 update came out. I didn't have any problems. This Tuesday (the 6th) I woke up after my alarm went off on my phone and all of my apps were gone! I hadn't done anything weird to my phone... I didn't plug it into iTunes or my computer the night before or even the week before. So I'm not sure why they mysteriously disappeared. Does anyone have an idea why this happened?

I have the 3rd generation iphone and i have a very little number of apps.
I've been looking for my youtube, safari, itunes and app store on my iphone and cannot find them on any of my pages.
I've tried searching for them and cannot find them that way either.
I can still access the wifi through google but if i wanted to save a webpage through google
i'd have to go through the safari app and the missing safari doesn't load.
I've also noticed my boughten apps i can move around like normal but i cannot delete them on my iphone.
I've tried turning it off and turning it back on while holding the home button the ^volume button and the power button and it's still the same.
On my computer, my itunes is updated.
In itunes i have all my apps all updated and same as my iphone software.
My iphone still is missing the 4 apps.
But just a few hours ago ive decided to restore it,
and even after restoration the 4 apps are still missing,
and i cannot sync any of my purchased apps onto my iphone.
But everything else, music, movies, photos, calenders, contacts, etc. are all there.
How do i get my phone capable of syncing purchased apps from my comp again?
How do i get my missing 4 apps back?
What's wrong with my phone?
How can i prevent it next time?

Why are my photos disappearing for no apparent reason?

During a recent project of putting our best family pictures from the past five years in a photo album, I noticed some of them are not really there. The small image is there, but when I click on it I get an error message that the picture is gone. Where did they go? And can I get them back? At first it was just a few pictures. Now it seems to be a lot of them like it's continuingly happening. Help!

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

No sound on HP Envy 14 Beats Edition. Sound disappeared for no apparent reason.

HP Envy 14 Beats Edition laptop (product QE295UA#ABA) running Windows 7 Home Premium version 6.1 (build 7601, service pack 1).
I don't recall running any software updates. I've confirmed that no mute buttons are on. I've tried the Windows troubleshooter for Playing Audio/Speakers and Headphones but the software does not detect any problems. I've tried reinstalling the driver to no avail.

Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53281.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

Drive space disappearing for no apparent reason. what could be causing?

As the subject says, I have an issue with space on my drive being filled by something throughout the day. If I restart, some but not all of the space willl come back and eventually I need to restart again because I'll have 0kb of available space. At that point, I can't get incoming mail, IMs etc. Any ideas as to what is going on? Any additional information I can give to help figure out the problem?
This morning I had about 600MB free, it dropped to 0kb in the afternoon, I restarted and it was about 480MB and iit was empty again this evening. If you "get info" on the drive you can watch the space disappear. Please help!

That's a disaster waiting to happen! You need to keep roughly 15% free at all times!
You need to delete some stuff immediately or you'll start losing data (if you haven't already), or worse!

You could get them back from multiple places:
- iCloud back up
- iTunes back up
- pc/mac if you imported them to it
- photostream (if you used thius with icloud)
With these options your photo may have there, in terms of back ups the photos will bge there if the back up was made when the photos were on the iPhone.

Basic panel disappeared from Develop module. LR 5.7 Mac OS 10.10.1 Tried control clicking headers of panels that are still there. Do not get a pop up list. Can't find way to restore. What should I do?

Basic panel in the Develop model no longer appears. Started this afternoon. Been using LR 5 since it came out. No problem before today. Searched forums and did the control click on develop module headers. Check list doesn't appear. What do I do next? I did a Time machine restore but nothing changed.

I have now tried control click, command click, option click and combinations of these on 2 computers running the same lightroom versions, same Mac OS with the same result. No list of develop headers, no way to check/ uncheck.
LR on my MacBook has all the panels. On my iMac Basic and Split Toning are missing.
The only result of clicking is collapsing or expanding the individual sliders under the headers.
My only thought now is to find the preference files for LR and delete them and see if the missing panels return. Any other suggestions?

Ethernet suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason

My late 2011 MBP is usually functioning as a desktop with external display and keyboard/trackpad, so I have it connected via ethernet when it's on the desk. However, my connection suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason.......... BUT clearly not a router problem as there's no problem with the wifi connection. System Preferences > Network > Ethernet is telling me:
Status: Connected. Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the internet.
Dunno how this happened, as to my knowledge I didn't actually do anything to cause this problem, just randomly stopped working. Any solutions much appreciated, thanks :-)

Try Settings>General>Siri>Off. Restart the phone then go back and turn Siri on again. It can take a few minutes for Siri to totally activate again.
