My Cover Art on Self Published Book Appears Small on Library Shelf

I self published using Producer. Everything went well except I do not have the right dimensions for the cover art. It downloads to the bookshelf from Itunes and the book appears miniature next to the other books in my library. How do I remedy this? What are the proper dimensions? I made my cover using Keynote and then exported to Iphoto as a JPEG and then made it the cover. The dimensions as a jpeg were something like 720 x 1200 - more than the recommended minimum.

My experience is that for automatic artwork look up, the two pieces of info that must match exactly are Artist name and Album name. If you changed any of those two, that might be the issue.
And it can be somewhat subtle. For example, I couldn't figure out why a "Mighty Mighty Bosstones" album wouldn't get the artwork when I could see the album in the store. Turns out that I was missing the leading "The" from the group name. Adding that in to create "The Mighty Mighty Bosstones" solved that one.
Other times I have found very slight differences in album titles especially with punctuation and articles (the, and, etc.). For example, AND vs. &, or titles like (just making up a title off the top of my head) "Joe Blow Greatest Hits" vs. "Joe Blow - Greatest Hits" (Note the added DASH in there).
I have found that if I go to the store, highlight the line of one of the songs on the album, do a COPY then open Text Edit, Notepad, etc. and paste it will paste in the entire line of info (it doesn't seem to allow you to just highlight and copy the artist or title), then highlight the artist name or album title, again do a COPY, then go back to iTunes, select the album, Get Info and paste in the version you just copied which WILL match iTunes version.
Best of luck,
Patrick

I hired a commercial artist to create a color image for the cover of a self published book. I want a black and white image for the inside. The commercial artist has not responded to this request. How do I determine the format of the color image, I'm guessing it's Illustrator's formatting but I don't know. How can I find out if Illustrator will open the file and allow alterations? The image opens only in Apple's Pages software?

    rons,
It seems that all you have is a raster image, presumable PNG24 or JPEG, in RGB.
It may have been created as raster artwork in Photoshop, or it may have been created as vector artwork with the help of Illy, or as a mixture of vector and raster artwork in either application, or both combined.
If you just need to have a raster representation in black and white based on the current colour image, you may try this, in a new RGB document (View>Smart Guides are your friends):
    1) File>Place the image (you may tick Link or untick and have it embedded);
    2) Create a rectangle with black fill (R = G = B = 0), at least as large as the image, and place it behind the image (you may ClickDrag with the Rectangle Tool between opposite corners, then Ctrl/Cmd+X+B);
    3) Select all and in the Transparnecy palette flyout click Make Opacity Mask with both Clip and Invert Mask ticked.

  • Why doesn't my podcast cover art show in store but appears in iTunes library after I subscribe?

My podcast cover art is not showing up in the iTunes store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/liberation-radio/id591038133
As soon as I subscribe via iTunes on my computer and look at the podcast in the Library, the cover art is there. I can't figure out what's wrong. The image is 1400x1400. The original feed submitted to iTunes is here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/LiberationRadio
Can anyone assist? Thanks in advance!

Great, that explains it. We had moved the image to a new URL and actually updated the original feed that we input into Feedburner with that URL ... but we also had Feedburner Smartcast turned on which creates its own iTunes tags and overrides any that may already be in the feed, and the image URL in Smartcast there was the old one.
In any case, we not only updated Feedcast Smartcast with the correct image URL, but we also put a copy of the image at the old URL so that even the URL presently used by iTunes should work.
Any idea how long it takes for the store to update the cover art? Anything we can do to expedite it?
    Thanks!

  • I have successfully uploaded my self published book. How long before it will appear in Breakout Books or general category?

Hi - I successfully uploaded two ebooks - both mystery/thrillers. I can find them when I search by name but as of yet they do not appear within the mystery catalogue of books. Also will they appear in Breakout Books since they are self published? Thanks

Surely you've seen some of the on-going threads on this topic?
Once my book is uploaded, how long before it appears in iTunes?
As far as suggestions go...be patient.

  • I have an iPad 1.  I bought a book from iBooks and it is not downloading.  I bought it prerelease and I got an email that informed me it was ready.  The cover of the book appears in the library but does not download.  Does anyone know how to remedy this?

I have an iPad and I bought a pre released book on iBooks.  The book cover appears in my library but it won't download.  Does anyone know what I should do?
    Mimi

Well, to paraphrase the old line, "What're you gonna believe, that email or your own lying eyes?"
The first thing I'd recommend trying is to power down your iPad (press & hold Sleep/Wake until the red OFF slider appears, then slide it to shut down), and then boot it back up and try again. You're resetting a bunch of state signals by doing that and this simple action (the first of a series recommended by Apple in your Users Guide) will quite often clear up these sorts of problems.

  • 6 x 9 page size for self published book

I want to self publish a book using a 6 x 9 inch page size. I can't seem to find this size in available list in pages. Any ideas?

You can alway create you own page size in the Page set up. Beneath all the sizes you can see click on custom. Now you can create a page of any size you like.

  • View cover art wd book live nas iTunes

Hi, i have bought a WD Book Live 3tb network storage device, i have transferred all of my itunes library to the NAS drive and because it has a itunes server, itunes detects it and i can play my files. All of my music have the cover art embedded into the files, because when i view them in the finder i can see the cover art. But when i am browsing my library through itunes none of the cover art shows up even though it is embedded into the files? can anybody help me get my cover art to show? thanks

trial and error but i think i got it.. this worked for me running OS: 10.8.3, iTunes: 11.0.3
On your computer hard drive (running your OS) go to your music folder in finder and "IF" u have a folder called "iTunes" rename it to iTunes2 or whatever u what don't matter.
Create new iTunes by holding down opt key while opening iTunes. It will ask you to create or choose.  press "Create Library..."
U will need to name…. save as: "iTunes" and the saved location HAS TO BE ON MAIN HARD DRIVE running your OS. This folder cant be saved to external hard drive ONLY MAIN HARD DRIVE and the name HAS to be "iTunes". It wont work with any other name
If you have large music located on external drive then u will need to go to preferences on iTunes and change "iTunes Media folder location" to your desired location on your external and MAKE SURE TO CHECK BOTH BOXES... ( the actual "iTunes" folder containing Album Artwork, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library.xml ect has to be located on main hard drive running OS that the trick)
Adding media back to new iTunes--- so IF your original media is located on the main drive then go to the new "iTunes" folder that was created in your Music folder on main hard drive and there is a folder called "Automatically Add to iTunes"  all u do is just drag the folder holding all your original media to that folder called "Automatically Add to iTunes"and it will automatically move that original file and organize it to the new iTunes folder….So FYI  any media on the same disk will not get doubled when u add to folder it will only organize file but if it located on different disk and you drag file to " "iTunes Media folder location"" located on main hard drive then it will double that file
Adding media to new iTunes if the original media is located on EXTERNAL drive----. Pretty much its the same but back on step 4 if you saved  "iTunes Media folder location" to external folder... then that folder has a folder called "iTunes Media folder location"" …. So if u add any media saved on that drive and drag to that folder it will just organize and move that original file only……
So now in iTunes when u press "show in finder" for music it will show artwork and when u just search with finder it will show artwork for music file. Hope this help this issue bugged me for a long time apple tech was no help.. hope this works for others

  • Can changes be made to the size of Cover Art after publication?

Can anyone please advise me on how to change the size of the cover art on the published work already in the iBookstore?  It's showing up pretty small but when it's downloaded it's the proper size on the bookshelf.  Right now, it appears landscape and half the size of the other covers.  Any help is greatly appreciated!  I'm quite new to this.  It's my first book!

Use iTunes Producer to look up the metadata for your book and then replace the cover image and resubmit.
According to "Using iTunes Producer 2.6 for Books", you can update publication details except for the ISBN and the book type.
And, according to "iBookstore: Publisher User Guide 2.0":
If you discover errors in the EPUB file, book cover, pricing, clearances, or metadata, you can update them by simply redelivering via iTunes Producer.
    Michi.

  • Changing cover art

There was recently a similar thread to this one where apparently the iTunes store was updating the cover art on tunes. Turning this option off in Preferences fixed the problem.
However, I have a different problem. This Preference is turned off for me, and I'm seeing the problem with albums I have imported into iTunes from CDs or from downloads.
The problem I am seeing is that if there is already cover art associated with a tune, there doesn't seem to be a way to replace it. If I drag a new image to the cover-art display in iTunes, it appears to "take" and the dialog that shows the selected tunes being updated displays as if the new artwork is being associated with the tunes. Even the image in the "Selected item" window for artwork shows the new artwork. But if I navigate away from the currently selected tunes, then back to any of them. the old artwork I was trying to replace reappears.
Does anyone have a suggestion for how I can permanently replace artwork previously associated with tunes?
    Thanks,
    -P.

I assume here you are talking about the podcast image, which appears on the iTunes Store page for your podcast? (Strictly, 'cover art' is the image embedded in the mp3 file which appears when you subscribe - just to be sure we are talking about the same thing).
It may be that, having made the change, the Store will pick it up without any further intervention on your part: it may take a few days. If it doesn't work, then you should rename the image and reload it to a different location for example make a folder at the same level it originally was and place the renamed image in it): amend the feed accordingly and reupload it: again, it may take a few days to pick up.

  • Transfer of ebooks from library to NookColor missing cover art?

I have successfully transfered my ebooks from my local library
to my NookColor using ADE. However, there is no cover art displayed for each book on my personal libraryshelf? Oddly enough, when I open the book to read the cover art shows when I begin to read. Isn't there suppose to be a cover art thumbnail of the book on the shelf or is that only for books directly downloaded from B&N. Any feedback/suggestions appreciated.

I remember reading about something similar on the AT & T forum, http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=apple&message.id=94023 &query.id=478736#M94023

  • Cover Art Problem

When I try to upload the cover art for all the CD's in my library, it searches for like an hour and then comes up with no results for anything. Is there any way to actually get the cover arts uploaded onto my computer that I'm missing?

You'll probably need to locate the art yourself if iTunes has already failed to find it, although it may fare better with one request at a time.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=trackswithoutartwork for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, find the album in the main music folder, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough.

  • Previewed book on iPad2 appears smaller on my bookshelf beside the others that I actually purchased. Is this anomaly corrected when a book is actually published, or is there a way of sizing the finished product while building it in iBooks Author?

Previewed book on iPad2 appears smaller on my Bookshelf beside the others that I actually purchased. Is this anomaly corrected when a book is actually published, or is there a way of normalizing the book's final dimensions for the Bookshelf while building it in iBooks Author?

When you submit to the store via iTunes Producer, you'll have a chance to choose a cover.

  • Changing cover art after book is in store

Hi - I used Book Creator to make my book -- it just went up today -- using the producer is it possible to change one's cover art? - -want to make the titiles bigger.  Thanks.

You’ll need to create a separate cover image and upload it to iTunes Producer. Use a tool like Photoshop or if you've created the book on your iPad you could just take a screenshot of your cover page and crop it.
The file must be a JPEG, PNG or TIFF file in RGB mode, (these are standard filetypes for images).
The image must also be a minimum of 1400px on its shortest side. It doesn’t matter if the cover art is landscape, portrait or square.

  • I am in the process of trying to send some "photos" from iPhoto to a self publishing company and they want it sent CMYK as opposed to RGB. The "photos" were printed beautifully for 2 books I created at an earlier date. I want to send in the right format

How do you convert iPhotos to CMYK? I want to send "artwork" which are essentially photos to a self publishing company for a children's book and don't know how to do this. The iBooks I created are beautiful and vibrant. Why can't I just send the photos? They want all artwork tiff and CMYK with at least 300dots on resolution?

Photoshop is a very  expensive application. GraphicConverter can convert RGB files to CMTK and can set the PPI to what you need:
GraphicConverter is the only 3rd party image editor other than the full Photoshop to be able to convert to CMYK.  You can get it here: Mac photo editing, Mac photo software, Mac photo-editing - GraphicConverter
