My CS PS5 freezes on start up

I got a new computer, brand new, and i installed the CS5 Production Premium. Now when I open Photoshop CS5 the x64bit version it freezes when it starts reading the preferences like so.
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/856/errorjn.jpg/

The first thing that I would do is to "trash" the Preferences file, as it could be corrupted.
This requires timing, but launch PS, and IMMEDIATELY, hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt, until you get a dialog screen, asking if you want to delete the Preferences and restore that to the default. That IS what you want to do. Test.
Good luck, and hope that gets you past the Loading Preferences.

  • Exceeded RAM..was crashing now freezes on start-up screen..HELP!!

My mac is only about 2 mths old.
I've got about 15GB music, lots of tv shows (about 13 series) and yesterday I installed Microsoft Office.
My mac had been freezing occasionally before and I would just have to resart it. The cursor would freeze on the page.
Well as I said yday I installed Microsoft Office and also downloaded 4GB worth of TV shows and another 2-3GB music and tonight it has crashed.
At first it was freezing after a minute or two of being on, no pages would load especially internet pages with lots of pictures.
I've restarted it a lot trying all the different combo's on the discussions/forums but it still seems to just freeze on start up.
Resarting whilst holding down Command-S gives me
    "error enabled
    uncorrected error
    mca error code: 0x0400
    model specific error code: 0x2008
    other info: 0x00001210
    debugger called: <panic>
backtrace <cpu 1>, frame: return adress {4 potential args on stack)
I just put in what I thought might be significant.
It freezes after that page and wont let me type anything..
Have tried resetting PRAM, resarting in Safe Mode, resarting with mac disk that came in box...
    Nothing is plugged in.
I totally forgot about my mac having limited RAM :S

All good... I quickly typed in 'fsck -fy' Return
    before it froze.
It ran through some checks. Then typed in 'reboot' Return. It booted up. Halleljah!
The cursor was still acting up a bit, jumping around and lagging. I managed to uninstall microsoft office, skype, sims 3 and some other crap I didn't use. Seems to be running perfect now.
That'll teach me to get an external hard-drive...

  • My macbook keeps turning off and freezing on start up

So like my macbook keeps either freezing on start up or it will just shut off or restart itself
When it restarts itself it will bring up the main screen then this box comes up telling me to hold down the power button and restart it
A friend said it might have something to do with the fan not working or it overheating
But I can have it off all night then turn it on in the morning and it will mess up
It will do it sometimes between 2-4 times
I don't know what is making it does this
I ran the check up things and it said that nothing was wrong?

This sounds like the same thing that has been happening to both my Macbook and Macbook Pro. Some others sound like they have similar problems. This is what I posted in the Macbook Pro area regarding the same symptoms. This is discouraging. These computers are expensive and they should have the bugs worked out better than this.

I wonder if I have similar problems. I have both a Macbook Pro 15" and a Macbook 13"
1st my macbook started shutting itself off unexpectedly. It got more and more frequent. I have done several fixes including: archive and install, sending it in to have a logic board replaced, downloading an updated disc utility repair, and sending it in to have a power component replaced. Now I will be sending it in for a third time and I think they will replace the Macbook machine if this repair doesn't work.
Now my Macbook Pro is doing the same thing. I have had it for about 6 months and it was running fine until now. I ran the exact same software on my 12 G-4 powerbook without any problems. One of the computer people at work said it sounds like a power problem. It happens whether it is running AC or on battery power and doesnt seem to matter what I am doing.
I am waiting for the macbook to be fixed before I address the Macbook Pro because I dont want to have both of my computers in the shop at the same time.
Any suggestions? This seems totally unacceptable for two new expensive computers.

  • I have been using pse11 on wondows vista and it has certainly started freezing on starting and I am unable to access the organizer, the editor is ok. Have removed and reinstalled but is the same have changed the files as suggested. Have been unable to ope

I am using pse 11 0n windows vista for years and it has suddenly started freezing on starting, I am now unable to access the organizer it freezes on the blue screen, the editor can be opened. Have removed and reinstalled but is still occurring. Have changed the files as suggested, am unable to open as administrator

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • CS3 freezes when started on Mavericks

CS3 freezes when started on newly installed Mavericks (from 10.8).  Last files are displayed and Regster window appears and then freezes up.  Necessary to Force Quit to get out.  I've "successfully" re-installed CS3 several times but the problem continues.  What gives?

  • PS CC Freezes on start up.

I've read the other threads... but this is freezing on start up.
I have New Refurbished Dell Latitude Laptop PC Win 7, 16GB, NIVIDA Video card.  I am in the process of slowly installing software and only have installed a few programs so far.
I installed PS CC and it opened and apeared to work ok with one test image.  I closed out & powered down for the night.  Powered up the next morning and opened PS CC and it opened to a frozen screen.  No error msg, or anything... just a totally frozen PS standard first page.
Note: I also have both Bridge CS6 & Bridge CC (my only other CC program)... and both open & close ok (but I've not really tested them).
This CC is frustrating... had Preimere CC not work either and had to uninstall and load PP CS6 instead.
I have a teckie friend helping me and we are both yelling uncle.
    Any help is appreciated.

I think I found the problem.
I have a 256GB SSD… it is so fast that PS CC loads so fast that when the “Adobe Do You Want to let adobe monitor your activities etc, etc,”… which is a really small file… so small it flashes on the screen and instantly PS CC loads on top of it and hides the Pop-up.  And I mean flashes like a 1/10 of a second.  The only way to then get to it is from the icon in the bottom tray because that Adobe pop-up box locks up the PS CC program until you click one of the Pop-up options to make the pop-up box go away.
The short answer... "Don't blink when PS CC Loads on a fast machine".

  • Illustrator CS5 freezing on start up

I'm not sure what went wrong but suddenly Illustrator stopped working.. not while I was actually using it but now it just won't load. I see the orange start up screen it says loading fonts and that's it. It get stuck and eventually I have to use the task manager to quit the program.
I have the CS5 Master collection and all the other software are running fine. I tried reinstalling Illustrator & it's still doing the same thing.
My next step is I'm going to try uninstalling the entire CS5 Master Collection & then reinstalling.
Was there some file or folder other than the actual location where I installed Illustrator that's not being deleted when I reinstall?
I'm guessing this is why it's still not working.

I was having this same issue. I had also installed some fonts, after which Illustrator froze while "installing fonts," so I removed the fonts, but it didn't solve the problem. Illustrator continued to freeze on start up, albeit, now during "initializing."
The solution that worked for me ended up being very simple: hold down the Command-Option-Shift keys while starting Illustrator. Apparently it resets the applications preferences.
Hope this works for you too!

  • Illustrator CS3 freezing at start up

Hello, I recently bought an iMac with the Leopard operating system on it. I installed the adobe creative suite 3 not long after I bought the computer and it was working absolutely fine up until I went to install the disc for my internet service. When I put the disc in it asked me to quit running programs before continuing so I quit Extensis Suitcase. Now when I go to open Illustrator (as well as InDesign) they both freeze at start up and are non responsive. I'm just curious if it has anything to do with suitcase and how can I fix this? I already tried reinstalling just Illustrator and InDesign but it is still an issue. Should I uninstall the whole suite and just start over? Thanks a lot.

  • MacPro 3 OS 10.5.8 freezing at start up

I just installed Photoshop CS5 and during an Adobe aided install of some missing plugins, the support person had me restart my computer. My Mac Pro which has never given me a lick of trouble froze during start up. I ended up rebooting after several tries unplugging and retrying a normal start, I eventually held down the option command P R while rebooting. It did start up but is exhibiting odd behaviors. It froze while I tried to verify disk on my main HD. I decided to shut down and unplug all my peripherals and restart and had the same problem, a grey screen with a progress line at the bottom that freezes before start up. I had to reboot as described above. I am not sure if I should uninstall CS5 or look for a fix. The adobe support person dumped my call when I mentioned that my computer wouldn't restart. I am a photographer who loves using my Mac but knows little about how it really functions. I would appreciate any help you experts could provide.

I have an older copy of Disk Warrior that I bought to repair an external hard drive that I was having problems with.
Did that drive have 10.5 installed on it? What version number of DiskWarrior do you have?
Never realized I could use it sporadically with the Mac to detect problems.
    Oh yes!
Would it matter that it is a couple of years old?
Yes it could, it has to be a Leopard compatible version. Is it DiskWarrior 4?
If you have that version, that it'll work on 10.5.8. If not, you'll need that DW4 upgrade at $49.95.
Later you can get a free update to DW 4.2 which will work on Snow Leopard.
    I really appreciate your help.
    No problem!
I take it you think it is a data problem and not a physical one with my system.
Probably. If you want to, try running your Apple Hardware Test . It's not perfect, but may flag something if it's hardware based.
I am looking at upgrading to OS 10.6. Any thoughts as to if it might improve the problems I am having with Photoshop. My last version was 32 bit, this one is 64.
Yes I believe Snow would work better for you, but to be sure ask that question in the Snow Leopard usage forum.
I am wondering if that can cause problems with start up or if I am dealing with some other type of issue.
Maybe, but I really don't know for sure. I don't run anything that needs 64 bit.

  • Z10 freezes during start up

My z10 freezes during start up. First I can see the red led on, then the BB logo and "blackberry" on the screen and it stays there forever.
I have tried to update the OS, using BB update software option, at which after resetting my Z10 the green led stays on, though I cannot update it, getting the error message "error downloading Blackberry Desktop Software".
Any ideas ? I need to recover information in the phone's internal memory.
    Thank you !!!

So I did the Disc Utility, and the disc was sucessfully repaired. I restarted the iMac and got to exactly the same place as before: "Login window started" where it froze again. I turned it of, restarted in Safe Mode and it froze at the same spot.
Is the next step to try reinstalling the OSX? I didn't see an option to install in place ie leave all my files intact. There's an "Archive and install" option. Does this just archive the system folder and erase all my other files. I'm pretty much backed up but I'd much prefer not to erase the files if I can avoid it.
    Thanks

  • Bootcamp windows7 freezing on start up and taking around 40 minutes to load. Mac mountain lion also taking around 5 minutes to load on start up

I would like to have your kind support..Bootcamp windows7 freezing on start up and taking around 40 minutes to load. Mac mountain lion also taking around 5 minutes to load on start up.

My first step would be to get rid of "Norton protection". Boot from your OS 10.6 disc, navigate through your hard drivve and trash anything that is Norton. Empty the trash.
Next, run Disk Utility and ask it to repair the hard drive.

  • Photoshop freezing at start up because of Kubota plugins (Mac OS)

My photoshop is freezing at start up.  I have some kubota actions on my computer and this is what I get at the freezing piont.  "starting-up plug-ins....kubota dashboard 3 palette..."  I have restarted my computer and also closed it completely.  This seems to help but not this time.  Any suggestions as what I should do.  Thanks.  By the way this is my first time here so hello everyone!

Yes, there's just no way this is a coincidence...it has to be something going on within Kubota! I submitted a "head's up" as to what's going on via the contact form on Kubota's site. This thread was a HUGE relief to me as well. I've spent the last 24 hours freaking out. To top it off, Adobe CHARGES $40 to troubleshoot on past versions of Photoshop, which I find absurd. We pay crazy amounts of money for this program. I'm only running CS4! Geez! Granted, it looks like this is not an Adobe issue, but it involves their program. Wish they were a little more accomodating.
BUT...I did find a way to use photoshop instead of removing the dashboard altogether...a workaround is to start your computer in "safe mode" (my computers are Mac's, so I'm not sure if there in an option for PC). When I did that, Photoshop pulled right up. And I WAS able to use the dashboard. Of course, this can only be a temporary fix, but at least it allows you to edit if necessary. Hopefully this will give a clue to Kubota as to what's going on.
Guess we'll see! But, yes, HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!

  • Ask for refund for upgrading to lion, since lion always freezes at start up.

I want to know if I can get a refund for upgrading to lion. I have been really frustrated with this upgrade. Ever since the upgrade, I have not been able to start up normally. It always freezes at start up. I don't want to waste my time on fixing this issue any more.

No refunds that I know of.
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.
After seeing what you have to do to return to Snow Leopard you might rethink your position of not wanting to fix the problem you have with Lion which probably arose from existing problems with your Snow Leopard system. The fix is pretty easy. Back up your data, erase the drive, reinstall Lion, restore your files.
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
