My CS3 is sick?

I have been using my CS3 for over a year.  It does seem to be getting slower and slower on startup, but now... all of a sudden, it is freezing up when opening PS files.  Not all PS files, just intermittent.  It sits with the bar showing that is is loading, and then when I click.. it goes not responding.  I at first thought that somehow the file got corrupt, and remade it.  It my let me reopen the file once, I add to it, ctl S to save it.... and then when I go back to open it again..  it won't let me.  I am using Windows Vista and again, have been for over a year with no problems.  I haven't installed any new software or hardware.  Can someone please help!  Thanks in advance for your time....

I would go the simple route first.
Is your anti virus scanning your pictures as you work? That could be slowing things down.
Go into msconfig and turn off the start up items. One of these might be conflicting.
Resources might be scheduled to run at the same time too.
You might have malware too slowing things up. This link is for Spybot Search and Destroy. It will find a lot of crapware that windows defender misses.

Use CCleaner to clean up your hard drive: It is free and works great.

Defrag the hard drive: I use this and turned off the windows one. It organizes files better and it is free.

  • Vista color management & CS3

Two weeks ago I wrongly faulted my new Dell 2707WFP monitor for its high contrast and saturation after many failed profiling attempts using the Spyder2Pro with the updated Vista software. I'm still at a loss as to why images are dark and overly saturated in Photoshop, Bridge and Lightroom. They were all fine on an older Dell system running XP home and CS2. I've gone so far as to purposely inflict various gamma curve settings in Spyder to bump up the low end luminance but resulting profiles still show images clipped in the low end and overall saturated even as the desktop and the PS interface turn a sickly pale.
I'm new to CS3 and Lightroom and so I'm not sure if the following is normal. When I view a NEW batch of images that were not previously viewed in Bridge, they are normal looking, however when I click on a thumbnail, it then reverts to the same garish contrasty version that I see full size in the above adobe software when opened. The same thing happens in the WINDOWS PHOTO GALLERY viewer but NOT in WINDOWS EXPLORER. In Explorer the thumbs are as they should be...normal, and if I open them in Microsoft OFFICE PICTURE MANAGER or in Quicktime PICTUREVIEWER, they open as normal images.
All this sounds like a profile issue of some kind, but as far as I know, everything appears to be set correctly in both PS and the profiling software. However, Im not sure about the system settings regarding profiles. In the Windows COLOR folder all the profiles are where they should be and I can select which one to load using the Spyder Profile Chooser. And again, I do restart PS when I change a profile. Could this be some kind of Vista bug??
    Other notes:
If I do a screen shot and paste it back into PS, it turns DARKER than the original file.
When I do additional calibrations I restart PS to load the latest profile.
All files tagged sRGB and in sRGB workspace. PS shows this correct space and likewise the correct monitor profile in COLOR SETTINGS
ATI CATALYST CONTROL CENTER fails to run on bootup so windows shuts it down. No fix that I can find for this.
Running Vista Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron 530 E6550, 4GB memory, Radeon HD2600XT
    Thanks again for your help!

Found this on the DATACOLOR site in their SUPPORT CENTER:
Incorrect Color outside Photoshop on Wide Gamut Display
Solution >>I just purchased a Dell 2407 HC display, considered wide gamut and the spyder 3 elite. I've used the spyder 3 to calibrate the monitor. In photoshop whenever I "Save for Web" or "Save as" in the sRGB color space, I wind up with over saturated oranges and reds. I'm needing to save in the sRGB for web work. My working color space is set to sRGB which looks fine when editting in photoshop, but as soon as I save it out of photoshop the reds and oranges are over saturated. I purchased the spyder 3 because of the wide gamut support, is there something I'm missing in calibration?
The display profile is not at fault here. The ICC profile for the display tells any application that uses color management what the color values for the display are. Thus Photoshop, which is using the profile, corrects for the colors on screen, giving correct results. A non-color managed application (such as Internet Explorer for Windows) would not use the profile and thus the colors would be oversaturated on your wide gamut screen. This is not the fault of the profile (that would make the color look wrong in Photoshop, where the profile is being used), but the lack of a profile (which makes the color look wrong in non-color managed applications).
This is the problem with using a Wide Gamut display for viewing in non-color managed applications. A typical gamut display is not color correct in such applications, but is at least approximately correct; a wide gamut display is noticably oversatured in some colors. On the Mac many applications, including web browsers and OS utilities, are color managed, so it is less of an issue than on Windows.

So if the color is off outside PS, then its not the fault of the profile. My problem is the image is off INSIDE PS, and by the same reasoning, then the profile is at fault. If the profile is to blame, is this a Spyder issue or Vista issue? So far noone seems to know anything including Adobe tech support and Dell. Been waiting 2 wks to hear from the Spyder people.
Would really appreciate some input on this. thanks.

  • Creating a Business Sign in CS3

I have run into a problem I am not sure how to solve. Anyone's help will be greatly appreciated. I have been using CS3 flawlessly for sometime. However I am trying to do something that I am now having problems with. I am trying to design a business sign that is 10 feet (width) by 3 feet (height). I thought this was going to be easy, however I have noticed several things:
    1) I do not seem to be able to make my fonts go any higher than 390 points
    2) Very slow reaction time to commands
    3) When I try to free transform the text, the program puts up an error about runtime
    4) Photoshop automatically created a .psb file to save in (I had no idea it existed-now I do after reading a bit). Is this the best way to attack creating the sign or should I try to do it in EPS?
    5) If I do it in EPS, will I be able to use photographs as well?
    6) Is there an alternate way to do this at a smaller scale and then bump it up to the larger format?
Any suggestions? We really would like to design our sign ourselves if possible so please let us know. Thank you.

    Here's what is comical.

    Hi Buket,
I  am involved in a music school in New York where the staff tries to  teach the students about becoming a good world citizen and to learn  about different cultures.
How do you consider  yourself a "good world citizen" by calling others 'horrible'? How do you  involve yourself as any sort of mentor for school kids with the  childish insanity you have demonstrated here?
This has  never been about me vs. you. I've never promoted myself as an expert. I  only gave you a suggestion to find an expert.  You can either accept  input you asked for ...or you can go on for an  inordinate number of  posts to demonstrate how much of an insane hypocrite you  are.
The beauty about what I do personally and what our company does is teach children about treating people with respect. You clearly aren't a candidate for such a thing. Glad to see that checking up on my other company activities is such a priority to you. Here's what else you need to know. I warn students about people like you. I advise them and show them how to be the best that they can be and to enjoy the cultures and rich traditions of others in the world. Consider we have college graduates in our alumni who have gone to major colleges successfully AND carry on the tradition of being a good world citizen, I think we've done pretty well.
As far as calling YOU horrible. You demonstrate it with each post. I'm sure it's quite gratifying to your PHOTOSHOP skills to continue to attempt berating me. fortunately, I've seen individuals like you before. By the way, referring to the post you had to search out, we were able to create a video with children from around the world. They learned about each other in a very positive way. A little different than your posts don't you think?
How do you involve yourself as any sort of mentor for school kids with the childish insanity you have demonstrated here?
I teach my students to treat people with respect and love but not to allow ANYONE to abuse them. Your problem is I won't allow you to brutalize me with you nasty comments.I return what I am given. If you stop attacking, I will stop responding.

In fact, your attitude made it about you and me. For myself, I will be fine if I never speak with you again. However you seem to have some sick need to contact me. You should seek help for that.
By the way, we finished the sign. Thanks for all your help.

  • Can't do Publish/Publish Setting a movie in Flash CS3

I installed Flash CS3 while still keeping Flash 8. When I try
to publish/publish setting a movie, an alert pops up saying 'No
valid HTML Templates are available to complete this operation'.
Probably there was a conflict so I uninstalled both Flash
CS3, Flash 8 then installed Flash CS3 but the problem still comes
    up. What is that?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey,
First of all, thx for the answer.
The publish location is fine; it publishes to the same place,
like b4 the problem. Nice thought though.
What kind of problem could it have? And can it be fixed?
I've tried to rename it. Nothing.
It's a template that I've bought and I have the source file
in a ZIP, so every time it happens, after i've done some changes, I
copy them one by one, and then I publish it again and I'ts fine.
    I'm sick of doing it...
What it be possible for you to check the file?
    Thx,

  • Dreamweaver CS3 under Mavericks

I just upgraded my Mac OS from 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) to 10.9.4 (Mavericks). My copy of Dreamweaver CS3 no longer works. The error message reads: "You can't open the application Dreamweaver because Power PC applications are no longer supported." The Adobe website says that there should be no problem with CS3 CS4 and CS5 under Mavericks. Any idea how to solve this problem?
    Thanks

    Just a quick additional comment:
If you are going the Freeware route, I can recommend Kompozer as an alternative that runs well on Macintosh. If you are looking for a plain text editor for Macintosh, Bare Bones software makes Text Wrangler, which does provide strong code-hinting. I have used BBEdit, which is $50 (and they'll let you try before you buy) along with Dreamweaver to compare differences in code as well as doing the kinds of search and replace stuff that Dreamweaver just won't do (like grep type searches for patterns in text). BBEdit totally rocks and I purchased it after one use.
If I'm working with BBEdit and not Dreamweaver, I will set up a browser (usually Firefox with Firebug) to help me look at what I'm doing and BBEdit on the other side. With a large monitor, you can see what you are doing while you are doing it.
What you don't get (and things I still rely on a lot) are Dreamweaver's handy tools for inserting an image and Dreamweaver's ability to template a website so that you build a master page and any changes to that master page (as in navigation, a new header, changes to the footer and so on) are updated globally. Also, if you have bulleted text but it's not formatted correctly, Dreamweaver lets you do ordered and unordered lists very quickly from a series of paragraphs. So it's a better visual tool for me.
I used Kompozer a number of years ago after I got sick of how N|vu wasn't being updated often. It's easier to use than a TextWrangler/Web browser combo.
My father is 81. There is no way he'd be able to do a website. So I wish you good luck.

  • InDesign CS3 crashing on startup

    Hi
One of our plug-ins is causing InDesign CS3 5.0.3 (release version running on Windows XP) to crash on startup. This is only affecting one customer, on all their PCs, but we can't reproduce it in-house. It happened before, to the same customer and the same plug-in, a few months ago, and we 'fixed' it by reverting from the 5.0.3 SDK to the 5.0.1. However, now the problem has returned.
This isn't much to go on, but can anyone suggest what might be causing this?
    Thanks,
    Charles

Well, I finally fixed it. It comes down to an issue with Visual Studio: that programs built with it will not necessarily run on a target PC that doesn't have VS. You have to run a Microsoft file called vcredist.exe on the target PC, which provides it with the missing DLLs etc. We knew about that, but it turns out that when we decided to service pack VS2005, we should have downloaded a new version of Microsoft's redistributable program.
Why only this customer was affected remains a mystery. At a guess they have installed some other piece of software that included incompatible versions of some DLLs, and running Microsoft's installer fixed things as a side effect.
The crash I was getting on one of our own PCs a couple of days ago now looks like a completely different bug introduced by my diagnostic code. I'd investigate further except I'm already sick of this problem, and all I need to do is remove the diagnostics.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

  • Moving a big PP CS4 project to CS3 ...how to ...?

I cannot keep working on my project with PP CS4 I keep having very ennoying problems :  un-openable projects. like once a week or so, a project and all the auto saved version of it - become unopenable... the progress bar stalls...
I thought I solved my problems when I upgraded to vista ultimate 64 and did a very simple setup (CS4 and a few animation softwares... not much more...).
I spent too much money and way too much time and haven't understand WHY some of my project won't open (it olny happens 5% to 10 time
I lost A LOT of time trying all sorts of things, all the operating systems (XP home, XP pro, XP 64, VISTA64 and WINDOWS 7 build 7600) ....
    I have a DELL precision 690 workstation 2 dual core/3ghz - 8 gig ram - a quadro 3450 video card ... almost nothing installed but the production premium CS4 suite ...
We still will be working for at least 3 months on this project...
I'm fed up with all the lost time and I have ABSOLUTELY no clue why we have problems, despite all the troubleshooting and tiem spent on the forums...
So I lost faith in PREMIERE CS4.
I tried hard enough. I need a faithfull editing software.
I have to decide between CS3 or FINAL CUT.
We are working on a half hour animated film.
Our latest PP timeline includes close to 2000 medias (still/QT and audio files).
Has anyone done this operation ? ... going from PP CS4 to CS3 ?
I am ready to spend a full day to do copy/paste - export timelines one by one ....
I am not ready to redo the whole editing, as it may take a long while to place all the media
    at the right place.
Any clue or trick or plug in or whatever that could help us do this move would be greatly appreciated!
also I know I am on an ADOBE forum, but I am also interested in the pros and cons of cs3 vs FCP...
I would prefer using CS3 as we use photoshp and AE a lot in this project and like to stay in the ADOBE world... but if there's an easy way to go from PP CS4 to FCP we may consider it...
... another small hope is the 4.2 upgrade...?
    thanks for any help!!

First attempt was with the whole project (I have 35 sequences/timelines within the same prject - project is 41 meg big)

  • I want Adobe to send me $5 every time Illustrator CS3 crashes

I have the super master suite for CS3 - Illustrator (and Photoshop) crash CONSTANTLY. I have dual core machine w/ 3 gigs of RAM. That should be plenty for creating vector art. But no. Illustrator misbehaves constantly. It costs me money to be constantly redoing work and restarting this slow to open app.
    I'm sick of it.

Yeah, I agree. Computers suck. We should all just go back to creating analog artwork with rapidograph pens and rubylith, using line cameras to shoot halftones to film, scaling and cropping reflective images with overlays, stripping on light tables, using actual airbrush technique for creating gradients. What? You don't know what any of these things are? No one has the skill sets or antiquated equipment to actually perform any of these tasks? I guess we're all stuck with these suckie vurtial artboard/light tables called 2D graphics programs. Umm… what was the question again?

  • Audition CS3 Problems

All of a sudden I can't open Audition.  I receive an error message that says "Adobe Audition could not find a supported audio device.  Please check your device settings."
I have tried everything I know of to solve the problem, but I still can'tget into the program.  I have downloaded supposed ASIO fixes and continue to have the problem.  I have uninstalled the program at least twice and reloaded it.  Upon on doing that one time I was able to open the program, but after closing it, I can never get into it again.
I am an old time user of Cool Edit Pro and thought it was great when Adobe purchased them, now I'm not so sure.  I don't know what t
oi do and I am sick of Adobe's lack of support when I try to contact them.  (Not just this program but Acrobat 8 also.  (I posted another message for that problem.)
Anyone out there have some suggestions?

Well, after spending over 3 hours with Adobe Customer Service and Technical Service, to no avail other than to be directed to one of their TechNote's for my Acrobat problem.  I tried all that they suggested to no avail.  Also could not solve the Audition problem, so I bit the bullet and reinstalled all software including Vista Home Premium.  All I really lost is my temper and a lot of time especially wasted with the folks at Adobe.  I have solved my own problem by doing it this way.  I will continue to use Audition CS3 and when I can't do something I switch to the old Cool Edit Pro V2.1 (the predecessor to Audition) that I really know.
I am just really frustrated with the whole Adobe line.  It has gotten really over priced and support is a joke.  I was on with Customer Service with someone who could not speak English (I had to ask 4 times for him to slow down so I could understand him), then transferred to Technical Support only really returned to another non English speaking lady who was in, you guessed it, Customer Service.  This put me past 5:00 PM so I could not call Technical Support until the next day.  After another hour or so I was told to go to the Tech Note and try that or pay $39.95 for them to attempt to solve the problem (This problem was with Acrobat 8 (CS3), not Audition.  I declined at that point and tried the steps on the Tech Note (to no avail).  Since I was also deep into the Audition problem I decided to just start from scratch.  Sometimes it is just better to do that than to find out the cause.
Thanks to those who tried to help.  I still am not sure if this was a bad driver, upgrade to driver or what, but at least I have things working fine once again.

  • How do I rapidly try different fonts like I could in CS3?

When working with text in a design, a common activity is testing different fonts to see which looks best. This was a very simple in CS3 with its Text Editor dialog:
Right-click on text block, choose Editor...
Click on font drop-down and start hitting the down arrow
Every time you hit the down arrow, the text would update in-place, making it a cinch to find just the right font.
When CS4 was in beta, this functionality seemed to be lost. I brought it up in the beta forums but never received a reply. Now with CS5, I was hoping this rapid previewing would be possible, but I'm just not seeing it.
Can this rapid testing of fonts be done in CS5 or am I stuck with CS3 forever?

I feel the same way. There are so many things I like about how FW CS3 works that have been taken away or replaced with inferior alternatives in later versions that it makes me angry. I fully understand the developers want to standardize the product line and make them integrate better, but if usability suffers then it's counter-productive.
I skipped CS4 because it was too crashy. I tried CS5 and unintalled it after just a few days, finding it largely unusable. I don't think CS6 is any better on that front. I LOATHE this tabbed interface.
I continue to write bug reports on CS6 about lost functionality, even though I know I'm talking to a brick wall. :-(

Using InDesign CS3 on a Mac 10.4.  I've had this problem for a couple of months now and it's getting past the point of annoying.  When I open my text wrap options pallete it's blank even when I expand options.  I can see the text wrap icons in my header panel, but I no longer have options to change the right/left/top/bottom margins.  Just a general "add wrap" and "remove wrap".  Is there any way I can get my pallete back?  I've tried defaulting my tools, but still it does not show up.  I don't know what to do to get it back.

Did you try resetting preferences? While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files. If you don't get the message about deleting preferences, you weren't fast enough.

The T1i was first supported by Camera Raw 5.4 which is only compatible with CS4 and later

The problem you got into is a known problem after updating to Tiger. It is a small 4K file that gets trashed with the update. It is called the Adobe Unit Types. Both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements need this file to function.
One way to get it back is to reinstall Photoshop, the other is to add this file again.
You can get the file from here http://www.dd.se/Tips/bildbehandling/downloads/AdobeUnitTypes.zip
It is only 3,7 KB big.
You put the file you download here:
[hard disk] /Library/ScriptingAdditions. If you don't have a Scripting Additions folder, you create it.
As you trashed Photoshop, you need to completely deinstall it to be able to reinstall it.

Even more content out there now on the home page of PhotoshopNews.com

I haven't been able to download CS3 yet, but the Martin Evening pdf (thanks for the link!) has what looks like a piece of great news buried in it:
"For example, before you first had to create an empty new document with the exact pixel dimensions before you could place an image (such as a raw file) as a Smart Object. With Photoshop CS3, you can now place a raw capture file as a Smart Object layer in a single step."
If I understand this right, it means that the functionality of the old Dr Brown Place-a-Matic script is now available from Aperture. We can -- or this makes me hope we can -- send a RAW from Aperture to PSCS3 for editing, and then Place the same image, perhaps twice, as a Smart Object, edit away, and when we Save get the whole edited image back in Aperture without going through the Finder.
I used to use this (from Bridge) all the time to double-expose RAW shots: adjust the sky to one exposure and the ground to another, masking to get both into the final image, all without messing with the pixels of the RAW image. I've missed it. Whoopee.
