My CS5 Bridge opens images into Quicktime by Default rather than PS or ACR
I recently changed from an old pc running XP Service Pack 3 to a new computer running 7 and upgraded from CS4 to CS5 with an "upgrade disc". When I double click in Bridge to open into PS or ACR the images open into Quicktime by default.
A secondary though niggling glitch is that when I run CS5 in my Administrator A/c 7 won't let me delete files/folders unless I turn off my Security Setting
Any corrective ideas would be much appreciated

In Bridge click on edit/preferences/file type associations.
Adjust the default to CS5 for the file format you want to open in PS.

I briefly used after effects earlier today and now bridge is opening all .jpg in after effects rather than photoshop. Photoshop is set as the defult and I've tried resetting preferences etc but it continues to open in after effects having to right click and opening with on every image! How can I change this back to using photoshop?
The folder view is as normal but as you can see below at the very top of bridge rather then just having the directory name it now says "Opening in Adobe After Effects..

I recently upgraded from mac cs4 to cs5.5. Due to a bug? with cs5 ai illustrator 'Pixel Preview' won't show 1 bit tiff files as it did in cs4 (the workaround is time consuming/wasting). This is a problem for me as most of my files contain them, GGrrrr. Is it possible to have cs5 Bridge open cs4 ai files actually in cs4 rather than opening them in cs5?

Yes, either set the file type association in Bridge prefs for 'ai' at CS4. But it seems somewhat difficult when having newer versions, sometimes whatever pref settings in Bridge or Finder/get info/ open with/you try it keeps opening in the latest version.
In that case either drag and drop the files on the CS4 icon in the dock or with right click mouse menu choose open with and select illustrator CS4.
Although you can only have one version of Bridge open at the time you can have the other suite applications from different version open at the same time. -

How the email message looks in Mail is fairly irrelevant to how it will look to the recipient. An image attached to an email message is an attachment regardless of how the client displays it. Some will display it inline, others as an icon in a list of attached files. Regardless, it is an attachment and should be capable of being opened, saved to another location, etc.
Unfortunately, some Windows email clients (*cough* Outlook *cough*) are absolutely crippled when it comes to email standards, and make it difficult for recipients to view or save some attached images. You can better ensure success with Outlook by using Windows-friendly attachments and only sending plain text email, rather than HTML email. However, Outlook is still Outlook, and it does not play well with others.
If you must communicate with people who use Outlook try uploading your photos to an album on Picasa, Flikr, Shutterfly, etc, and then send people a link instead. Or convince them to use a real email client, like Thunderbird. -
How to make .wmv files play in QuickTime Player 7 rather than 10
I have just about had it with QuickTime Player 10 in the Applications folder
and would rather use QuickTime Player 7 in the Utilities folder to play .wmv files.
When I double click on a .wmv file, it opens in QuickTime Player 10 with the
lame floating thing that blocks the view. Where and how can set 10.6.2 to use
QuickTime Player 7 rather than QuickTime Player 10?
The floating thing is really annoyingQuickTime X is very new software and only Snow Leopard users have it

Are there settings in Acrobat to enable a PDF file to open in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader by Default rather than open in a Browser
There is a check box in the preference (under edit). I have not had great success with this setting, but that is what it is supposed to do. Don't expect it to happen in Chrome that has it's own PDF viewer (or the preview function on a MAC). You might also check the settings for your particular browser.

I use my iPad while it is plugged in and I use it on battery power as well.
I use my iPad all day long at work on battery power and then come home and plug it to recharge. Typically I will use it the rest of the night while its plugged in. When the battery is fully charged, the charging process stops and you can continue to use it while it is plugged in and it will not overcharge.
It will not hurt to use it while it is plugged in, but the beauty of having a better powered device is that it is mobile and you don't have to plug it in to be able to use it virtually all day long. -

CS5 Mini Bridge Opens Images in Windows Paint
Can anyone tell me how to open images with Mini Bridge into Photoshop CS5? I have both an XP and a Windows 7 64-bit computer. I just downloaded the update to the CS5 program I had already installed and now when I go to open a JPEG image in Mini Bridge it opens the image in a program called Paint. When I use Bridge itself, with the settings set to "Automatically open all supported JPEGs" it opens my JPEG images in Camera Raw (which is fine). Do I have to reset the Preferences in order to clear everything out and start from scratch or is there another workaround that someone can tell me?
Thanks.Yes, that is exactly what I did. Should I then always keep the prior version available in the computer or uninstall the earlier version before installing the upgrade version? I don't recall having this problem in earlier versions of LR or Photoshop.
I will go ahead and reinstall both CS5 and LR3 after deactivating. Darn I was hoping there would be a workaround, but I have no idea what the previous file associations would have been or how to change them in LR. I sure did learn a valuable lesson though.

5K Retina iMac can't open Image Sequence quicktime 7 Pro and 10.10 Yosemite
Brand new and fully loaded iMac 5K crashes every time I attempt to open an image sequence in Quicktime 7 Pro, a feature that is not available in Quicktime X. I have retried, re-installed, and still issues across the board.
Someone please fix this...

To replicate, just open quicktime 7 pro, File>> Open Image Sequence, and then load a camera card full of photos and just wait for it to crash.If so, please send me a screen shot of your quicktime components folder, maybe you have a codec that I don't.
Also have some legacy codecs turned back on (but Photo-JPEG as used to store image sequence files is not one of them and remains on by default under Yosemite).
Also using JPEG compressed photos from a 24 MP Nikon but restricting resolution to 2560x1920 (4:3), 2560x1707 (3:2), and 2560x1440 (16:9) with max number of photos limited to 2^16-1 (65535).
Also posted a screen capture of my quick test to ensure the QT 7 Pro "Open Image Sequence" option was still working. (Video may be a bit sluggish as I was using QT X to screen capture my use of QT 7 Pro to open an image sequence and forgot that I was also simultaneously still encoding How to Train Your Dragon 2 for my iTunes library.) [OPEN IMAGE SEQUENCE VIDEO]
You may wish to check your QT 7 PLIST file as a corrupted file can sometimes cause the app to crash. -

We have a particular campus with exceptionally limited access on their machines -- essentially, they can browse the web (access our Intranet) but not write information to drives or update their MS Word to read the new DocX format (or install plugins, etc,
to do so).
The new Web Apps seems to provide some potential for alleviating their issue -- but ideally, they would be able to originate (create) new documents right in Sharepoint by clicking on New -> Document and having the new document open in Office Web Apps
rather than downloading / creating through Template.Doc (standard method in Sharepoint).
Any ideas about how to make this kind of functionality happen?

---DaveWhen you mention "web apps" I assume you're referring to the new "Office web apps" in SharePoint 2010, so I'm not sure why this question is in a pre-sharepoint 2010 forum... My answer entails how to go about doing this in 2010 only.
In the document library's settings, go to advanced settings, and choose for the files to be forced to be opened in the browser, instead of the client software.
By default, you're only going to have a new word document for your "new" button. You'll need to create content types for all the other document types you want them to be able to create. So create a blank spreadsheet, and save it on your desktop,
and create a blank powerpoint too.
Then create new content types at the top level of the site collection. One called Excel Template, and one called PowerPoint template. For each content type, click on the advanced settings and upload that blank file that you created.
In your document library, go to the library's advanced settings and change "allow mgmt of content types" to YES. Then, in the content types section add those 2 new content types you created.
Now, when people click the "new" drop-down, they will have choices of a word document, excel and powerpoint, and they will open in the browser.

I do not like the order of the context menu changes in Safari 6.1. I have become accustomed to using "Open Link In New Window" first in the context list, rather than the new "Open Link In New Tab". I do not wish to use Tabs. How may I remove this?
Well, I solved it just after I posted this. I opened up the Safari Preferences, then went to the TABS section, and set "Open pages in tabs instead of windows: to NEVER", and unchecked "⌘-click opens a link in a new tab". That set it back to open in new windows.
Tabs work if I am making quick tabs to refer to something. Horrible if I want to compare two websites side by side. So, by disabling the auto TAB function, I'm back to the way I prefer my browser to work, rather than the way something thinks I ought to use it.
Don't care about having all my browsers behavior the same. If I wanted that, I would have run those browsers. -
CS5 problems importing images into HDR
I am trying to open 8 raw files in HDR and I get an error message, "could not import the clipboard because the result would be to big. I went into Photoshop/preferences/performance and up the the ideal range memory to the recommended max 5206. I have 7230 available Ram prior to upping this. Still will not work. Can anyone assist me with this.
With 8 GB total RAM on a 64 bit system, you can safely push the RAM limit up to 90% or higher. I actually run mine at 95% (on Windows 7 x64). And do you have a large amount of free space on your scratch drive (e.g., 200 GB)?
But the memory limit doesn't sound like the problem, as the clipboard seems to have nothing directly to do with the Merge to HDR function.
If you copy something small into the clipboard and try the operation again, do you see a difference?
Do you have 3rd party plugins (e.g., by Nik) installed? Some of those are reported to interfere with clipboard operations.
Also, if the above doesn't help, you could try converting the raw files then saving as .PSD then using those as input... It might be interesting to know if that works around the problem.

Without knowing anything of Bridge for Elements in Bridge for CS in the
preferences menu there is File Type Association, inhere you are able to set
the desired application as default to different file types.
That said, if you have made a correct install (at least with CS) the file
type automatically changes to the latest version of the application.

I have altered my preferences on firefox so that it asks me where I wish to save a file I am downloading, but when it opens the box for me to choose the location, only the top level of files is offered (i.e. documents) and not more specific files that are within that file (i.e. pay slips). How can I access these other levels directly? At the moment, I have to save to the desktop and then transfer to the appropriate file later.
