You may try the list, especially 4) or 6).
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. -

You get that problem if you select the Firefox program to handle a file if you get an "open with" dialog.

I upgraded to mountain lion a week ago and now on startup of my macbook pro, microsoft excel and word start up automatically and then crash? very strange can anyone please help? I have checked the login items under users and groups and there is nothing.
Are you using the Office for Mac 2011 version, as you need to do? The Office for Mac 2004 is Not at all compatible with Mountain Lion, and the 2008 version has been noted to have some problems running with ML.

Time Machine getting stuck on random hourly backups?? Please help!
I set up Time Machine the yesterday, it compleated it's initial backup fine, and performed about 10 or so hourly backups, then randomly on one of it's hourly backups it got stuck. It never actually started the backup. The preferences said it was backing up, but the progress bar wasn't moving, and there was no activity on the drive. I stopped the "backup", and from then on I could not get it to do another backup.
So last night I reformatted the external and decided to let TM start over. Once again it finished the initial backup fine, and I went to bed. While I was in bed it finished 3 more hourly backups, and I woke up this morning to find it stuck again, trying to do it's 2:05AM backup. The computer was awake all night, so it should have no problems. The preferences say it is backing up, but never makes any progress, and there is no drive activity.

I bolded the entries that I assume are the problem, but I don't know what it could be. Why does it randomly get stuck on hourly backups. BTW The "waiting" is just repeating over and over etc..... Help! Or it's back to CCC for me. Thanks
EDIT: Tried it a 3rd time, and this time it managed to do 25 hourly backups before getting stuck. does anyone have a clue here, I'd like to get this working. Every time it stops working I have to format the drive and start over to get it to backup again.

Message was edited by: tms2010The deep traversal is being done because something in the TM data base is corrupted or not trusted. The deep traversal means the TM backupd process has to traverse your whole set of volumes being backed up. This is a very lengthy process.
No matter, it does seem you're hitting a snag of some kind. The best response I can give is for you to send the evidence to Apple feedback for the software engineers to review.
People on this forum are unlikely to know what the problem is nor have a fix for you.
When you formatted your TM backup Volume to you zero it out using Disk Utility. You could be running into an unrecoverable disk i/o error - a bad spot on the backup HD or even a bad spot on your internal HD. -
Hello.I have a late 2008 model MacBook with snow leopard installed. I'd been having some trouble with it lately, so I went to disk utility and tried to 'repair disk'. It said there was a file system error and it could repair the disk. So I started up from the install disk and tried again...same thing. Now when I try to turn it on and power it up, it turns on, makes the chime sound and then gets stuck on the gray page with the apple. I have tried removing the battery, unplugging/replugging power, and 'safe start up mode'. It still won't go past the gray apple page. Please help!!! I'd greatly appreciate any advice or comments! Thanks so much....
JulieIf you can boot from the install disk reinstall the operating system and see if it works.

Image gets "stuck" in reader and I can't open new.
I have a treo 700wx running windows mobile 5.0. Downloaded Reader for pdf files. It opens the first file flawlessly. When you try to open a subsequent file, it's like the original image gets "stuck" in the viewer. I have to perform a reset to move on to a new file and then the new file "sticks" also not letting me open subsequent files. I have re-installed reader once and have the same issue. Has anyone ever heard of this or can anyone offer any advice?

I can't get Rosetta to launch ANYTHING! :( Can someone please help!?
Everytime I try to run a program requiring Rosetta (i.e. Microsoft Office 2004, and about 5 others I have) my Mac says the program "quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically."
This is driving me crazy! Why won't my Rosetta work? I installed it from the disc during installation, then I was prompted again to install when I tried to install Office 2004. I clicked "install"...but nothing works.
HELP! :/Try putting in the Snow Leopard install CD and reinstalling Rosetta. Then run Apple Software Update (there are already one or two updates to put on) and then run Microsoft Auto Update and install everything that it comes up with.
MS Office 2004 would crash within Leopard 10.5 unless you downloaded every MS update there was. If you are installing Office '04 for the first time on this Mac then you'll not have these updates in the first place, if you had it before the SL upgrade you may have just lost/corrupted the updates in the process.
If all else fails buy iWork. It's 100% better than Office anyway, and half the price...

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this. -

Okay, doing my best to ignore the EXTREMELY annoying font you chose to use.
Is there a reason why you did not create a backup of your media and other important files before switching from Vista?
It is the users responsibility to back up their media, it is NOT Apple's responsibility.
When you purchase CD's or DVD's, if you lose them, you repurchase them. Same deal with digital media.
If you have a backup of your media, simply copy the files from the backup to your computer.
If you still have access to your old computer, simply copy the files from it to your new computer. -
I have a black Apple TV that has recently stopped working. It loads the Apple Logo on screen then goes off and starts again. It's as if it is stuck in a loop. I've tried a re-boot and this has failed. I have tried a restore using a USB cable on 5 different computers, including a Mac Book Pro and it downloads the update file but when it tries to restore I get the error code 9 showing on screen. I just can't get it to do anything.

I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!
