My cursor is frozen on my windows 7 hp

My cursor is frozen on my windows 7 desktop

Hi @gardenia1348 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Notebook and a frozen cursor on the screen. Try performing a hard reset.
When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
Did you install any new software?
Here is a link to Touchpad troubleshooting. The section marked TouchPad properties page on the left side has a restore defaults. Select that button if available.
You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Please let me know.
Thanks.

  • My cursor has frozen on a word document - how can I unfreeze it without closing or force quitting Word?

My cursor has frozen on a word document - how can I unfreeze it without closing or force quitting Word? I am a writer and have multiple documents going at any one time - I think this may be partly the cause for the freeze.  I would rather not force quit because there are too many documents that may have been added to that weren't saved. Im not so keen on the auto recovery process  Please help!!  Aussie  OSX 10.8.5  2.2 GHz   Intel Core i7 Memory  4GB 1333 MHz DDR3.

If you click outside a Word document, is the cursor movement normal? And if you select Force Quit does the tag next to Word say "Not Responding"?
I'm afraid that the only way to get out of your predicament is to Force Quit Word. If you had auto-save on, you may or may not be able to recover some of your documents. I sometimes have up to 12 Word documents or so loaded at one time, so your problem shouldn't be put down to you having multiple documents open.
Sorry that I couldn't really help - I just don't see any way of getting out of your predicament. You MAY want to try pressing the command and period keys at the same time, but I really don't think that will stop anything.

  • How can I have a single cursor using elements 9 with Windows 7?

Currently the cursor on my screen is 3 small boxes in place of the single arrow.  I am using Photoshop Elements 9 With Windows 7.  I have loaded the patch files currently in the Adobe system without any success.

    Thank-you that solved the issue.

  • Hp Pavilion 23 Blank Screen With Mouse Cursor After Hp Logo (Not Windows Logo)

Hello my computer wont start up all i get is a black screen but i have a mouse cursor. after a little bit the computer will restart and do a automatic repair but nothing happens it just keeps on rebooting. i tired to do a bio update but it seems to not be working. there is no option in the bios to update or even in UEFI. i also did a harddrive test and got a Short DST Check fail (FAILURE ID: 909HVX-0007K0-WPU2XF-60WH03) but i still can get access to the harddrive using a Linux LiveUSB and all files are there. (Product Number Is : H5P60AAR#ABA)

It is possible to receive a false DST check but not common.
It doesn't mean your hard has failed but that it is in imminent danger of failing.
You can try again but this time using the Extended DST test.
But before doing anything I suggest you back up all your important data using that live Linux boot disk just in case.
Every hard disk manufacturer has their own diagnostic boot cd/usb. Google it.
You should create one and run it for your brand hard drive.
You should be able to determine which brand you have from the BIOS/UEFI hardware tab.
While your'e in there double check that your boot priority is set to hard drive first.
Your other issue seems to be the dreaded 'Automatic Repair Loop' which could be caused by your possibly failing hard dirve. I would fully diagnose the hard drive first.
Here's a link with several suggested fixes. Some of them require a Windows 8 boot disk, other do not.

  • Cursor disappears on macbook pro windows 8.1

I have a MacBook Pro running Windows 8.1.  Over the past few weeks, while doing work (email, Word, Powerpoint  - basic office work), the cursor would disappear.  I would need to restart the computer for the cursor to reappear.  Today, the cursor has disappeared and I can't get it back with a restart.  I have read many posts on disappearing cursors but none seem to fix my problem.  All other functions (as far as I can tell) are functioning.  I am using the trackpad.  All features work except for the ability to see the cursor.  I have tried the following:
    1. Restart
    2. Power off / on
    3. Looking for additional microsoft updates and updating.
    4. Removing updates that have installed in the past 5 days
    5. Removing update KB2919355 (It wouldn't let me so it reinstalled it)
    6. Mouse settings - I tried changing scheme, size etc - no change.  I was able to select within Mouse Properties - Press CNTRL to see Mouse - this works.  When I press the control button - it shows me a target of where the cursor is but it doesn't show the cursor - WORKAROUND.
    7. Added a mouse - it connected, made a sound as it connected but same situation as cursor - functional but can't see the cursor
    8. Went to MSconfig and tried booting in Diagnostic set up - CURSOR REAPPEARED - but no idea which app is causing the problem.
    9. I went back to MS Config and did normal mode - cursor disappeared at restart  and disabled all the start up apps and restarted - still no cursor.
    10. I pressed all the FN+F1, f2,f3 etc. - no change
    11. I checked to make sure I was only using 1 screen (and not extending my screen).
I have an appointment at the Genius bar on Monday but there has to be an easy fix to this.  Any ideas?

Additional Info - after working on this problem for 4 hours, I shut my laptop in frustration and took a break.  1 hour later I opened my mac and the cursor had magically returned.  No restart, no power on/off - nothing.  Frustration.  If anyone else has had this happen and has actually fixed the problem let me know. I'm sure it will reoccur.

  • Desktop, One line of icons frozen, and a window frozen on the side, top bar shadows of icons frozen.

So on my desktop, one line of icons is frozen, although the same icons are also on my desktop and actually working. Also the edge of a window is frozen. Lastly, on the right of the top bar, the little icons like battery, wifi, etc. are frozen as shadows underneath all the working icons... Basically everything is working right, just "copies" of the others are frozen...

Check in System Preferences>Universal Access and see if Zoom is on. If you have toddlers or cats this can accidentally turned on by hitting a group of keys that include Option + Command + 8.
To prevent this being accidentally activated in the future go to System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts>Universal Access and uncheck all the boxes.

  • Frozen video/preview window

    hi there!
running iMovie 8.0.6 on my brand new macbook pro. have had great success with iMovie thus far until last night when i cut a 1hr 5min long video down to 8 minutes. all was well, but this morning when i come back to edit some more and add music, titles etc, the project won't play. when i click play on the project, either in full screen or regular screen mode, the audio starts playing and the little yellow line starts moving through the clips but the image in the preview window and in full screen is simply frozen on the very first clip in the movie. any thoughts why i can't see the actual video but can only hear it??
    all help is greatly appreciated!
    thanks!

    hi there,
sorry for the delayed response. i actually had to call apple and unfortunately the fix wasn't that great. the project file was somehow corrupted - when i removed it from the iMovie program per their suggestion, the program and rest of the projects in it started working fine. their thought process was that sometimes when you're working in iMovie for too long without shutting it down/quitting, iMovie does not have the time to process the project files correctly, which is what could've messed up my project file. so i essentially needed to quit iMovie every once in a while to give it time to process the project. whether this is true or not i don't know, but it's the only answer they could give me. i actually had to remove the project and start all over! before removing the project though, i started a new one - you know how the event leaves a little orange or green line in the parts that have already been used and transferred into a project? i just followed those orange/green guidelines to get the clips i had previously chosen for the messed up project and put them into a new project. i then deleted the old messed up project that wouldn't play and everything has worked fine ever since. hope this helps a little!

  • Change cursor when using open browswer window behavior

Okay, I give.  I added an "open browser window" behavior to a line of text, which is working.  How do I get the cursor to change to a finger on rollover?  Thanks!!!!  ttt

You need to give the text a 'null' link, an example of which Nancy has written for your.

  • How to shutdown when cursors is frozen?

Cursor freezes every few days & cannot shutdown, even using the power button. I found using return key on keyboard does it. Is that the best way? Why these constant freezes? I have 10
    .9.2, Maverick.

    Hello jaype,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iMac.  I would be concerned about this too.
I recommend following the steps in the section titled "If the issue occurs in various applications, or in Mac OS X" in the following article:
Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1199
The Library folder is hidden in OS X Lion, so if you get to step 3 to delete your cache files, you will need to use the following steps to access the user Library folder:
The Library folder contains files used by OS X and your apps, including your personal fonts and preferences. The Library folder is hidden. If you need to open it, make sure you are in the Finder, hold down the Option key, and then choose Go > Library.
OS X Mavericks: What is the Library folder?

Additionally, the following article has some shortcuts if your computer is frozen (the article refers to Mountain Lion, but the steps are applicable to Mavericks as well):

  • MacBook won't boot, cursor is frozen at login

I have a MacBook (late 2006) keeps freezing at the login. When I get to the login screen, the cursor will not move; it's remains in the same place every time I log in.
Here's what I think what happened.
I created another account in my MacBook because i was going to delete my current account. And when I signed off, the problem begin.
It takes my computer about 4-5 mins to start and get to the log in screen.
My MacBook has been acting very cranky lately, which is the reason why I was going to start the new account.
I know that "source media" is damage. (whatever that is)
Sorry for the typos, I am using my iPhone. I hope someone can HELP ME :'( (I look like this emoticon right now)

ok. I've just switched the machine on with COMMAND + S.  When I typed exit I got these two errors:
    disk0s2: I/O Error.
0 [Level 3] [ReadUID 0] [Facility com.apple.system.fs] [ErrType IO] [ErroNo5] [IOType Read] [PBLkNum 1] [FSLogMsgID 1194498672] [FSLogMsfOrder First]
    0 [Level 3] [ReadUID 0] [Facility com.apple.system.fs] [DevNode /dev/disk0s2] [MountPt /] [Path /private/var/log/fsck_hfs.log] [FSLogMsgID 1194498672] [FSLogMsgOrdere Last]
Then it is just spamming with
    disk0s2: I/O error.
Is this another bust hard drive? If it is then that's 3 in a row.

  • Help! Cursor stays frozen in top left hand corner after startup

The cursor won't budge and I cannot get to the menu bar to enable the keyboard controls. It's not the mouse- I have a G4 PowerPC also and have tried two that work fine on the G4. I restarted holding down the O-option key and the cursor moved to the field the screen instruction asked for, but then nothing. I tried changing the battery though the replacement one I had didn't fit. Does this mean a journey to the Apple Store for a battery? I'm distraught as all my working files are on the eMac and even using a firewire cable would not let me transfer my files to my G4.

Hey Tim and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
I tried changing the battery though the replacement one I had didn't fit.
Here's the right battery and the best price:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/BAA36VPRAM/
However I don't think a dead battery would cause this problem.
So you can start up your eMac it's just that the cursor freezes?
Here's a page on "Target" mode:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
So if it will go into target mode you'll need a FireWire 400 cable to hook it to your G4 Tower. If the hard drive is going bad you might be able to recover whats there by drag copying.
If not try Data Rescue 3:
    http://www.prosofteng.com/downloads/
The demo is free and if the scan comes up w/ anything you can download 5 MB for free otherwise $99 to activate the full up version.

  • My I Pod is frozen on a window that shows a usb connecting to I tunes I have tried to reset to no avail

What do I do to eliminate a frozen screen that shows a usb connecting to I tunes, I have tried to reset to no avail.

It sounds like your iPod is in recovery mode. Have you connected it to your computer? Usually when this happens it indicates that the iPod needs to be restored.
If you have tried restoring the iPod and that hasn't worked you might also try putting the iPod into DFU mode and try to restore it. This would replace both the software and firmware on your iPod instead of a regular restore just replacing the software and modifying the firmware as needed.
To put the iPod into DFU mode:
    1. Make sure the iPod is connected to the computer
    2. Hold down the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 8 seconds
    3. Let go of the sleep/wake button and keep holding down the home button
    4. If you are successful, a dialog box will pop up in iTunes stating that iTunes has detected an iPod/iPhone in recovery mode.
    5. Click OK, then click the restore button in iTunes.
Hopefully after that, the iPod will be up and running so you can sync your content back.

  • Remote cursor is offset in console window

I have created a new vm (para virtualised OEL5 Update 1) and when I access it through the console I get an interesting effect where the remote cursor is offset from the local cursor. The offset is not constant and it appears to be some form of scaling problem (the offset decreases as I get to the edge of the screen).
It doesn't matter if I use the console provided through the management interface or if I connect with a RealVNC or tightVNC client the problem persists - has anyone seen this behaviour?
    Tim

I found out that you can actually connect to the console through a stand alone VNC viewer. I installed Tight VPN, and when I try to connect to the console, I used the address plus a port number, for example 192.168.200.16:5900, rather than IP address only. You can find out what the port number is when you connect through web browser. This works better than the Java based VNC viewer.

  • Any page or website, I move cursor one way, and the window moves in the opposite direction;

I.E., just moving the mouse around, w/o holding either button down; tried replacing mouse...it isn't that.
And I mean the ENTIRE window moves on the desktop, not that the contents of the window are shifting left and right.
    Thanx

Sounds as though Firefox is stuck in full screen mode. To switch between full screen and normal, press the F11 key.
Edit: if you do not have an F11 key on your keyboard, right-click at the very top (above any bar that floats down) and you should get a short menu with the option to Exit Full Screen Mode.
    Does that fix it?
