My Dad gives me your old iPhone 3GS.

My Dad gives me your old iPhone 3GS, and i want to disable your iCloud Account and have my own!... How i Do this?

Hi, Under settings is the iCloud tab, open the tab and delete the account and sign up your own. Before you do this however, this will also remove the ability for your dad to 'Find My Phone'
You can run multiple iCloud accounts and leave the 'Find My Phone' option open in the existing (Dad's) iCloud account and under mail settings open a new icloud account for yourself and use this for yourself (including iMessage).

Apple does offer a trade-in program and a recycling program.
    For the recycling program: http://www.apple.com/recycling/
For the trade-in program, contact the store in question.
They may not accept iPhones from outside the US.
The trade-in program requires the device to be fully functional.
Frankly, you will get a better value by using other services or selling the device yourself.

  • Official solution for unlocking for an old iPhone 3GS

Last summer, I purchased an iPhone 3GS together with a 2-year contract with Swisscom, one of the mobile telephone operators in Switzerland. A few weeks ago, my phone was stolen while I was on a trip. I contacted Swisscom and informed them that the phone had been stolen. They deactivated the old SIM card, and sent me a replacement SIM card. I reported the theft to the police too. My understanding is that the IMEI number of my old iPhone will be added to a blacklist so that it cannot be used on any mobile telephone networks anymore.
My father, who lives in Texas, recently upgraded from an iPhone 3GS to an iPhone 4. He extended his original contract with AT&T and simply moved his number over to the new phone. Because he no longer had a need for his old iPhone 3GS, he agreed to send it to me. At my suggestion, he went first to the Apple Store in Austin and requested that they unlock the phone. The folks at the Apple Store informed him that they could not unlock it. They suggested that Apple or the mobile carrier in Switzerland could unlock the phone.
My father shipped his old iPhone 3GS to me, and I received it yesterday. This morning, I went to the Apple Store in Zürich and asked if they could unlock the phone so that I could use it with my Swisscom SIM card—the one Swisscom sent me to replace the one in my stolen iPhone. They told me that they could not do this, and that only the original carrier, AT&T could unlock the phone.
What is the official solution for unlocking an old iPhone 3GS?
I have posted this question to the AT&T discussion forum also.

    Does Apple have a recommendation?
Read my post. There is nothing that Apple can do for you. The decision as to whether to unlock your phone or not rests entirely with AT&T, & they will not do so under any circumstances.
I read your post, and appreciate your having taken the time to write it. However, I would like to get an official reply from someone at Apple.
Apple is a company that prides itself on its commitment to the highest standards of environmental stewardship.
    http://www.apple.com/environment/
Apple’s partner AT&T is also committed to being a good corporate citizen and protecting the natural environment.
    http://www.att.com/gen/corporate-citizenship?pid=8506
Re-using old products to extend their useable lifetimes is one of the most effective ways of reducing the impact we have on the environment. When my phone was stolen, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to put this philosophy into action, using my dad’s old phone to use instead of just throwing it away, or leaving it on a shelf to be discarded later.
I think it would be a shame if there were no officially sanctioned way to put an old device to good use.

  • I have a 5 yr. old iPhone 3GS, I can't back it up to my laptop, it's not working, but wondered if i can back it up to her laptop, if I create a new user account name, w/out losing her info?

My 5+ yr. old iPhone 3GS is on it's last legs. I desperatly need to "back it up" ASAP, so I can buy a new iPhone, and I really need to be able to transfer my 5 years worth of info to a new iPhone, (a 4S). The computer I used to back my iPhone on when I first got it no longer works, so I was wondering about being able to back my iPhone up to my daughters laptop, but she also has an iPhone 3GS, that's already backed up to her laptop. I know you couldnt back up two iPhones up to one computer, (at least that's what I was told, years ago), but I was recently told by an "Apple" rep that I could "probably" back my iPhone up to her computer without losing anyone's info, if I created a "Secondary User Name Account" on her computer. I'm not comfortble doing this unless I'm reassured more than being told that it's "probably" safe.
Does anyone know what options I have, and if this idea would result in one or both of us losing our info, if we tried to store two iPhones "back up info" on one laptop?
My phone's barely working at all, but I can still access my info, (for now, at least). I really need to do something now.
Could anyone who knows how this works please give me some info?
    Thanks in advance.

First, you don't have a 5+ year old 3GS. The 3GS has only been around for under 4 years. In fact, 5 years ago there were NO iPhones; the original iPhone (2 generations before the 3GS) came out on June 29, 2007 - not quite 5 years ago. The 3GS was released June 19, 2009.
That aside, you can sync multiple phones to one computer - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495. boogeyman is wrong. It is 100% safe to create an additional user name on her computer, log in with that name, and back up the phone. See this for details on what you want to do: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109

  • How do I move data files from old iPhone? Specifically, the password files for the App mSecure from my old iPhone 3Gs to iPhone 4S?

How do I move data files for mSecure (a password saver app) from old iPhone 3GS to new iPhone 4S?

That article is about using your iPod as an external hard drive, to move files from one computer to another computer.  It is not related to your question.
You can't use iTunes to move song files from iPod to computer, except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download purchases).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can move song files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your current computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library by dragging the files (or folder containing the files) to the iTunes window.  After confirming everything is there (and fixing the data issue you mentioned) you can sync the iPod.  You may want to do a Restore on the iPod, if it might have a data corruption issue, which will erase the iPod's hard drive, re-install the latest software, and set it to defautl settings.

  • I want to use my old iPhone 3GS as an Ipod. Nothing is working?

I'm tired of wasting battery on my iPhone 4 to listen to music, so I wanted to use my old iPhone 3GS as an iPod. I read you had to have a sim card inserted in the phone, regardless if it's activated. So I put the old one inside, but when I connect it to my computer, it won't charge, or sync with iTunes. It's definitely not my charger because both of my phones charge in a wall outlet, and my iPhone 4 charges through the computer. Just not the iPhone 3GS.... I'm going on vacations with long car rides and would like to use this. Help please!

  • HT201269 How can I get my backed up notes from my iPhone 4s (itunes, not icloud) onto my old iPhone 3GS?

My phone was stolen. I didn't have an icloud email address, so everything but my notes were synced from the phone to the icloud. However, I did have an itunes backup of the phone. I would like to take the notes from that backup and put them on my old iPhone 3GS. The problem is that the old operating system won't let me restore from the 4S backup. I have to use the 3GS until I can get a new phone in a few months and I need my notes. Is there anyway to do this? Thanks for any help.
    Jeremy

It will ONLY be where you put it.
If you failed to maintain a backup copy, then it is gone.
If you had been syncing your notes to back it up, you can use 3rd party software like iPhone notes recovery to try to recover some of your notes from your backup.  However,
if your audio books are not fully included in the backup (they are only backed up as necessary to maintain call favorites and recent call lists).  This article will show what's
    included in the backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946.

Well I copyed it to you here.
Re: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?
created by mpa9366 in Using iPad - View the full discussion
Having done a lot of reading today and having found a very good online tablet magazine (will post link tomorrow) there seems to be a few tech bods onto the problem.
The magazine I was reading identified wifi problems within hours of the ios 6 release and have been analysing since then with almost daily updates - the story seems to be:
The apple authenthication transmission is normal, it should slip through event prior to a full handshake with the host network being completed - however if not authenthicated then apple will not permit the device to connect (kills the connection) this is designed to protect apple from counterfeiting. So thats problem 1 if you dont receive a token from apple.
Problem 2 is that ios 6 only supports ipv6 (the new ip protocol) whereas outside silicon valley a large proportion of routers modems etc are still ipv4 protocol.
So youre locked into ipv6 in a world where ipv4 devices are everywhere and apple have not allowed for the ability to handle both protocols. This is like GM telling you your car requires an upgrade, everything will improve etc and as part of the upgrade fits a fuel cell motor and stays silent when their upgraded vehicles are simply parked up because they cannot get fuel.
A very basic expectation would have been dual protocol handling - we know the HW supports ipv4 as all wad fine on ios5.
So its going to be hit and miss with networks - more hit than miss in techy areas like silicon valley, but more miss in places like where I am - a small town in rural Switzerland.
Only apple can fix this with a patch to enable ipv4 protocol handling.
There you go. you just need to buy a new router, I'm sure Apple has one for sale, cause it's not there fault for sure.
Wonder why people start to migrate to other devices ?

  • Problem transferring old iPhone 3GS to new phone 5S using computer.  The iMac which I've been using to back up 3GS for years does not seem to recognize the 5S.  No setup assist is coming on screen so I can't begin the transfer.  Any ideas for this?

How do I download the music from iTunes onto an old iPhone 3gs without affecting my iPhone 5? I have reset the iPhone to factory settings and when I plug it in it wants to use the device name for my current iPhone 5 and I don't want to change anything on my current iPhone. iTunes won't let me change the device name for the 3gs. I just want to use the old iPhone like an touch.

    Hi littlemansa,
If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you are returning to an old iPhone that has been erased and you would like to set it up as a new device without restoring from a backup which would affect the name of your iPhone, as well as the contents therein. I have an article for you that can help you set up your iPhone as a new device, and that information can be found below:
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT4137
Basically, it seems like you may be stuck on a screen that is asking if you would like to restore your device from the backup that is filed under the name of your new iPhone, or if you would like to set up the device as a new device. I would suggest that you set it up as a new device to achieve your desired results.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

I have a new laptop because the old one broke and so do not have non camera roll photos or music stored anywhere apart from the iphone 3gs and cannot update io5 on the iphone 3gs without erasibng everything. i need help!!!

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

No - your iPhone is a GSM phone and Verizon uses a CDMA network. Completely incompatible device and technology.

  • I want to change the sync on my laptop from my old iPhone 3GS to my new iPhone 4s,how do I do this?

I want to change the sync on iTunes on my laptop from my old iPhone 3GS to my new iPhone 4s,how do I do this?

    maybe be more specific...
you can sync multiple devices to the same itunes account on the same laptop.  Simply plug in the new iphone 4s and check off all the settings you want to sync (apps, music, playlists, books, videos, etc).
If you want your iphone 4s to look exactly like your 3gs...
    1. do an icloud backup of your 3gs
    2. restore your iphone 4s to factory settings
    3. when setting up the phone, choose "restore from icloud backup"
    4. choose the most recent icloud backup (should display the date and time of the 3gs backup you just performed
    5. phone will load everything just as it is on the 3gs... onto the iphone 4s

Contacts should be in your supported computer contacts application.
Did you sync with your computer befor? Check your computer's Address book/Contacts/Outlook or some other contacts application.
    * Your contacts are part of the backup to preserve recent calls and favorites lists. Back up your contacts to a supported personal information manager (PIM), iCloud, or another cloud-based service to avoid any potential contact data loss.

i bought a used iphone 4 today. how to transfer all my old and important data including apps and email settings from old iphone 3gs to the used iphone 4? that means, making the iphone 4 just like the iphone 3gs?

Well, you sink everything on your 3GS onto your laptop/computer. Then you reset your iPhone 4. When you are restarting it, add all those apps music (ect)  On to it. It seems difucult but for more info call Apple. I did that and he lead me step by step on how to do it. Well hope this helped~~
